It's only a short drive to the ferry, where you can park your truck and ride the ferry over to New Orleans. The ferry will take you right to the French Quarter where all the best attractions are.

Great park in the suburbs of New Orleans. There is no sewer connections at the sites. You can hear occasional airplane flying overhead, and frequently you'll hear airboats on the bordering canal. Regardless of those negatives... it's a great park. You'll have access to free decent WiFi, good cellphone connection, free laundry, long flat sites. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Motorhome.

This park is the closest to the sites of the French Quarter, that is reasonably priced. It is about a 25 minute drive in, and even closer to Metarie. The campground itself could use some repairs, especially the bath and laundry areas, but for free laundry, you can't be too critical. The sites are large and spacious, but it is in a marshy area, so keep in mind that if it is rainy, it will hold water. No sewer hookups, so you will need a blue boy, if you plan to stay more than a few days. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We stayed here a week while seeing the sites of New Orleans and the surrounding area. The campsites are great, paved and include water and electric. There is no sewer but a dump station is available. Each site includes a concrete pad with picnic table and a fire ring. Wide open spaces between you and your neighbor made it seem quite private. Our fire ring had beer cans from previous person. Garbage cans are available either on your site or site across. Getting into the campground can be tricky depending on the time of day but is manageable. Park staff were very friendly. WiFi was pretty good from our site#35. Many sites have a wooden deck attached to the pad which really increased your living space (ask for one when making a reservation). The park closes at 9 but there is an alternate entrance for after hours. Dog walking was great and it looked like everyone picked up after their pets. There are cabins for those who do not have an RV. To see NOLA drive to Algiers Ferry (parking lot $10/day) take the ferry and either walk or use public transport in the city. Parking costs about $40/day and is hard to find if you have a large truck. We are looking forward to returning to this park. If this park had sewer sites and improved WiFi it would have been a 10. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

About 1/2 mile from park there are many local seafood shacks where you can purchase fresh seafood. We bought size 10-12 shrimp from Amy's for $5/lb. Try Joe's Cafe and Donuts for a good breakfast. There is an easy diesel stop between the park entrance and the night entrance.

Beautiful park. Lovely mostly large sites. Showers and washrooms are quite tired. Cleaning does not appear to be daily. Maintenance is wanting. Laundry facilities are free, but machines are in poor shape. Park location is handy to New Orleans. Reasonable value for the money, but would be willing to pay more to support fixing the place up. Staff were friendly and helpful. All in all, we would still stay here again. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Don't miss the fresh fish market just down the road as you exit the park to the right towards New Orleans. Open seven days a week, fresh catch, oysters, shrimp, blue crab, etc. Really good, and very reasonable prices.

Very nice park. We have stayed here before (2007) and it's just a nice as before. Friendly staff. Clean park. Very swampy - there are a lot of mosquitoes, but beautiful as well. This is a very convenient park for New Orleans unless you want to pay Top Dollar. Electric & water are great, but you will need to use the dump station to empty tanks. There is no age restriction for RV's, and I have seen a variety of the best to the worst. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We always stop here on our way east to west or vice versa. Perfect stop along interstate 10 from gulf shores. Very similar parks with plenty of grass and room. Site 16 has good sat view for dish. Local ota channels good. Verizon works well. Good value but we can't stay more than about five days with no sewer. Easy dump station and free wash/dryers. Great seafood market next door. Drive into Nola but beware traffic. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

4hours from gulf shores and a long 8 hours to east San Antonio. Long Sunday drive but doable. Beignets and coffee at cafe Dumonde. Hurricanes at pat obrians. Fish market. Red snapper and shrimp. Drive and park by the river and walk to Jackson square. Saw Nc is Nola being filmed in the grav yard. Very cool

This campground is not easy to get to (without going thru some heavy traffic areas) but is convenient once you are there. The site we were in was kind of a tight fit to get in to as the post/site marker directly across from our site was placed in the way, but we made it. Sites are well spaced, but would not call the one we were in 'spacious.' All in all, it was a good home base to see New Orleans. The staff was really friendly and very helpful. I am giving this an 8 and not a 7 simply because of its location and convenience to NOLA activities. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

As others have mentioned a good way to visit the French Quarter is via the Algiers Ferry. It is $2 per person cash. $1 per if 65 or older. Parking is not great though so be prepared to find a spot on a side street. There may be a parking lot, but we did not see it. Ask the campground staff - they are very helpful.

The campground is really showing its age. The asphalt interior roads and pads are getting in bad shape. Several site pads have big hole patches that can make leveling your camper difficult. The bath houses are dated but clean and plenty of hot water. The campground needs a good grooming. The swamp, on which it is built, is trying to reclaim the area. Some of the overgrowth is encroaching onto the interior roads. It give one the impression that maintenance is lacking. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The only positive is it's an easy drive into new Orleans. The negatives. Stayed 3 nights and bathrooms always disgusting even after just being cleaned. The free campground pool and bathrooms very dirty. The wave pool in the State park that you pay for was covered in black algae on the bottom of pool. Doesn't make sense because they close it Mon thru wed for cleaning and maintenance??? Office staff not friendly and over willing to give out info on area. Nice spacious sites. Some have wooden patios, nice touch worth calling to make sure you pick one. We stayed Sat. into Sun. and had plenty of unoccupied sites around us. Beware that the ferry everyone talks about stops fairly early on weekends, despite the fact that the parking is pricier. Plus you have to drive just about as far to catch the ferry as into the city. Needless to say we drove in, found street parking near the FQ, and only had to pay until 7pm since meters are free afterwards daily and all day Sunday. Stayed 3 days in a 43' motorhome to visit downtown and French Quarter. Bayou Segnette SP is across the Mississippi in Westwego aprox. 12 mi. from downtown. Taking I-10 to Hwy 90W BUS to Drake Rd. will get you into Park. Normal weekday driving is heavy but much better on weekend. Smooth check-in at ranger station/office. Very helpful with local area info. The CG is at the back and interior roads are paved. The sites are angled, back-in with W/E only. Dump station is at entrance to CG. All sites are level with partial shade with convenient secure garbage cans. There is a wave pool that campers can use - office gives you blue band to access pool. No need to drive into downtown New Orleans. You can take the Ferry at Algiers Point Terminal (9 mi) for $2 each way (Seniors $1) and you have safe parking at pier for $5 weekdays, $10 weekends. Ferry run every 30 min till late at night and drops you off at Canal St. Ferry ride is aprox. 10 minutes. If you prefer you can drive and park downtown. We've stayed at parks in downtown area before and wanted to try this lower price alternative. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Motorhome.

This is my third stay in less than a year. Good place to set up as a base camp for exploring the surrounding area. My suggestion is to pick a site that has a wooden deck. Otherwise, I am in agreement with other reviews that are rated at very good or higher. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The campground was OK - but I was expecting more. Upon arrival, the entrance gate was raised up, and we proceeded through. There was a piece of plastic sticking out from the raised gate, and it scratched our 5th wheel along the entire side. Needless to say we were extremely unhappy. We reported it to the park manager, who was cordial, but made no commitment to cover the repair. We took pictures and will proceed with a claim. The campground had a lot of standing water which got worse on the days it rained. Also, the posts with the campsite numbers were poorly placed, making it very hard to back into our site. The campground was pretty with lots of trees and shrubs. Weekends were definitely crowded. There was average space between sites. We were able to get satellite and plenty of OTA channels. AT&T service was dismal, even with a mobile hotspot and antenna. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a great location for camping if you want to visit New Orleans. From the campground, drive 20 minutes to Algiers Point, park for $5, and take the ferry across the river to the French Quarter. It couldn't be easier. Don't miss the WW II Museum and all the great restaurants. Enjoyed touring Lafayette Cemetery and the Garden District - such beautiful historic homes.

Used this park as a home base for visiting New Orleans for several days. Nice clean park and fairly normal for what we see and expect with a state park. Only complaints are that the water hydrant at the dump station had very little flow and the killer mosquitos at dusk. Convenient to New Orleans. As others suggest, use the Algiers ferry to get to the city and get a transit pass from RTA to ride street cars and busses. The zoo is nice and has free parking. After the zoo, we took a bus to the French Quarter area and took the streetcar back. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
