Lake Pemaquid Campground $30./ no discounts We were quite surprised when we pulled into here. The road into the very woodsy Park is narrow, and signage is poor. We disconnected at what used to be the office and I drove car into the park to the store/check-in office to find directions to our site - a lake front site where we hoped my husband could fish. We found a site that was barely long enough for our 32' RV, and a lake that had so many lilies that fishing was next to impossible, especially with such a shallow depth. The sewer connection was a PVC pipe coming out of the ground at an angle, and above ground level. The electric and water connections were conveniently located at the back of the site. It appears that this campground has a lot going on during the summer season, parties, activities, etc. There seemed to be quite a few seasonal camps set up, with wooden patios, planting's, etc. Our site was in a culdesac and had some shrubbery between us and adjacent sites. As I started thinking about this place, the movie "Dirty Dancing" came to mind. The deeply wooded terrain, rustic wooden buildings and camp-like activities portrayed in the movie. This place was convenient for touring this area of Maine, but it was not an up-to-date, modern environment I was expecting. Lobster can be purchased from a dock at Owl Point Lobster, just before you get to the Owl Point Lighthouse, and my husband said the oysters from Scully's on River Road in Edgecomb were some of the best he's tasted. $1.50 each, but he said it was worth it. - TN Gator

Lake Pemaquid CG is a huge place with many features: beaches, boathouses, a store, playgrounds, etc. It is very family-friendly and there were lots of kids riding around on bikes and playing various games, swimming, eating ice cream, and generally having a good time. The upkeep of the entire facility is so-so. The main paved road is hard to tell from the many dirt roads because the paving is in poor condition. There are lots of trees and some grass but it isn't particularly manicured. The water is lovely and because it isn't the ocean, it is not too cold to swim in.
There are many seasonal campers and they are scattered around in the CG. There are a variety of sites and there's probably one to suit anyone's taste.
There was one area (near us) where a noisy group of seasonal campers seemed to gather every night to have a fire and drink and make way too much noise. This is a beautiful location and probably ideal for families who like outdoor recreation. - virginianola

We did not actually stay at this park because it was full but we did drive through and talk to the office staff. A small park with 2 way sites. They do have a honey wagon and charge $10 to have it stop by your site. Honey wagon goes around the park on Monday and Friday. Roads were OK but small. I would take a motorhome here, but not a big rig due to low trees and a couple of tight turns. Office staff was very helpful and willing to answer questions. - RayN

We stayed seven nights at Shore Hills in a 40' motorhome. The park is incredibly spacious and well laid out. Lots of areas for hikes within the park including their island to the tidal river. We stayed in the 50 amp section with full utilities including cable with over 60 channels. There are individual trash cans at each site. Lots of distance between sites on the side and in back. We really enjoyed walking through the park with our dogs looking the various sections of the park. The folks in the office are great to work with and the park is spotless. Wifi was not useable most of the time which is disappointing because they had a number of different access points. We were able to hotspot off both ATT and Verizon phones. The only complaint was we were present at the same time of a Liberty Coach rally during which a detail service was busy for the first 4 days power washing the participating coaches. It was loud and constant. The rally participants were all extremely nice and seemed to be having a blast. Would definitely return to this park with the caveat of finding out if they are hosting another rally at the time, as they have several each season. - tomcotten

Loved it! This is one of the nicest campgrounds we have stayed in. The place is not huge, which is a plus, the facilities don't include much for kids which is a plus for us, less kids. The site were private and spacious. The grounds were clean and pretty. The staff was very pleasant. We stayed 4 nights and tried to stay an extra but called out for a funeral back home. The reasons I did not give it a 10: 1. Wifi only worked around the campstore. 2. The bathhouse could have been nicer. They weren't bad, but they weren't great and they charged for showers. Would definitely go back for a stay! - wesmac68
Aug 2018 - $47.00
Our site was in the wooded section. The fully wooded spaces are wider there and afforded more privacy than the big rig area. Paved roads. Very nice. Good dog walking CG even has a trail onto a very small island. Showers cost a quarter per five minutes. Trash cans conveniently located at every site. We would return. - Sunnie-Wheelhouse

W/E30/I Wonderful wooded sites with great separation between sites. Main reason we chose this campground was easy access to see the Pemaquid Lighthouse 1 mile away but it turned out to be a gem even though it is a little out of the way. Internet access was only in the office area but it was very strong and had a nice place to sit and download my newspaper. Would definitely stay here again!!! - Teddi2
Aug 2018 - $40.00
Laid back with a mix of seasonal and transient sites. A pleasant place to stay. Rest rooms are very clean. The shower is clean, but funky as you must reach through the water to turn on or off. (Not enough hooks or shelves). Sites are marked with lobster buoys-- very clever. Firewood (pine) is available. WiFi near the restrooms. - Bag a donuts
Aug 2018 - $45.00
We were here for two nights and would stay here again. Park is small but the sites have plenty of room. The park was quiet with no highway or train noise. The wifi worked OK but we were parked close to the office where the wifi connection is located. Water and electric were fine. There are not a lot of sites with sewer, but the dump station is convenient to the exit, plus they do have a honey wagon. The office staff was very nice. My main issue with this park, as with many parks lately, is charging for visitors even if they are only coming to our RV for a drink or snack before going out to dinner. I can understand visitors that will be in the park all day using the facilities. - RayN

Oct 2017 - $34.00
Stayed October 2017 The fall season in the north is always a spectacular time of year, and this was a pretty spectacular place to stay and enjoy it. The park is located lakeside and over a large farm property, it is an ideal setting away from traffic and other noise. We had the park to ourselves at this time of year, but the site we stayed in seemed roomy enough that having neighbours wouldn't be a problem. Services all worked without a problem and were located handy to the spot we pulled into. Since the park was empty the owners gave us the option of pulling lateral to our site so we would not have to unhook a tow vehicle. We opted to back in after unhooking so we could enjoy the sunset sitting outside. The spot we stayed was away from the lake, but no less enjoyable as it was an easy walk to get lakeside. The park has a fantastic barn social facility that must be perfect for weddings and events. There are two sizable fire pits that must be used in the prime season for parkwide gatherings. There is also a stage where live entertainment can be hosted, complete with a grass hill facing it making for the perfect venue. There are a number of permanent rv's in spots by the lake, all appeared to be well kept and cared for. The owners definitely care for the facility, and they were extremely hospitable too. - Riptorn
Sep 2011 - $28.00
On the plus side the one staff member we met was friendly. We asked for a pull-through and were placed in an area where they put overnighters. There was nobody else in the area and we were allowed to park sideways so we didn't have to unhook our toad. On the down side this area was muddy gravel that had not had the trash picked up in quite a while. None of the fire pits had been cleaned and all had cans and bottles or other trash in them. We saw a couple of dogs running free off leash. Our area had been frequented by them and their wastes had not been picked up. We had no desire to spend a second night. - arpijay
Jul 2011 - $31.00
Rate reflects PA discount during the week and full price on the weekend. Had choice of 3 sites and chose one on the hill. Very quiet up there. Lots of semi-permanent RVs. They are local and keep the RV there for the weekend etc.. FHU with 30amp power was OK until the heat wave hit and then the AC's pulled it down too low for me to run mine. Eventually all power was lost in the whole area. Not just the park. Very helpful and friendly staff. I didn't swim in the lake but the wife did and enjoyed it. They had activities on the weekends. There are signs on Hwy.1 on both ends of Winslow Hill Rd. Easy to find. We visited lots of towns, Acadia and Bar Harbor from there. Made a good base camp. - Fulltime 5er

Sep 2018 - $54.00
Traveling in a 38 foot coach we stayed 5 nights in a site for big rigs. The site we had lacked gravel. The park is going for the green look and maybe that is why the sites were all grassy. If it had rained our grass pad would have been a mud pit and we would not have been able to get out. Is it that hard to put a little gravel down on the dirt? On the positive side because of all the grass there is no dust, which means not having to wash the coach after our stay. It is a very clean rv park (one of the cleanest we have been to). We had to pay an extra fee for checking in early. When you stay for as many nights as we did, I do not believe they should charge an extra fee for checking in only 90 minutes early ($45). Our satellite worked great here as our site was in the middle of the big open field. If you have a dog there is ample area to walk, however beware of their dog policy. Under no circumstance can you leave your dog alone in your coach or trailer, not even for 30 minutes. If you do....and you're caught, you will be kicked out. If you are looking for a quiet and clean park where you can sit outside and relax... go here. We enjoyed our stay, but because of their dog policy I do not think we would ever go back. - JDC10
Aug 2018 - $65.00
This is a peasant campground with nice grounds, but I can see no reason for it to cost so much! We chose it for the location and decided to just pay up, but were hit with even more charges. When I called they said it would be $60 plus tax and I didn't notice when I registered that my base charge was $65. We arrived at 11:00am and had to pay another $25 for early arrival, which no one had mentioned when I made the reservation. The site looks level, but we still had to work a bit. The bathrooms are clean but rustic and dated, and the showers cost 25 cents for 8 minutes. That's kind of a slap in the face after the huge cost to stay here! The power is just 30amp and a little weak. They have WiFi, but it only works at the office. For this price, they could install another router! They have things for recreation and the sites are nice, but I would certainly not stay here again!! It would be nice at $35-40! - mom2wildlife
Jul 2018 - $85.00
Our first time here and the experience was great. This is one of the cleanest, most attractive RV parks we've ever been in. Instead of being crowded into a line of campsites a mere few feet apart, our campsite was roomy and our closest neighbor 40 or so yards away. The sites are tastefully sited so that one can have a view of the tidal basin, shade, open sun or whatever one wants. We had full hookups. The staff is friendly as well as our fellow campers. Some were in RVs, some in tents, some in motor homes. Pricy but worth it. - gcd28

Jun 2014 - $36.00
This is a rural campground on Southport Island just south of Boothbay Harbor. It does stretch the limits of "big rig friendly" and they don't have sites for anything larger than our 40' MH. The roads and sites are gravel and some people may find them challenging. The views from some of the sites are exquisite but those are rented on a seasonal basis. The overnight sites have no views but the beach is just a short walk. There are picnic tables and chairs at the beach as well as rental kayaks. Verizon 4G service is excellent. The owner is friendly as are the office staff. - docj

This is a great campground if you are looking to purely camp. There aren't any activities, no pool. But the views from down at the beach can't be priced. And being able to get lobster right at the campground was the best. My husband and I would certainly return the next time we get to Maine. - Hummings102

To be honest, I have mixed feelings about writing this review, because Sandy Shores is a hidden gem that very few people know about and because I don't want to tell anyone it's here so I can keep it to myself. Let me begin by saying that this is a private Co-op park but some of the individual site owners have opened it to seasonal and monthly renters. The rate shown is the seasonal rate divided by 180 days. The park operates from the beginning of May through the end of October. It's located on South Pond which is an approximate 600 acre fresh water lake. There is a boat ramp and dock. The roads in the park are crushed stone and the sites are large and grassy with plenty of shade trees. There are two bath houses with restrooms that are lightly used and very clean. There are also two clean laundry rooms with very reasonably priced machines. The swimming pool opens as soon as the cool Maine spring permits. You can also play horseshoes, shuffleboard or tennis. There is a clubhouse that contains a full kitchen, a game room and library exchange. Yes, the park abuts a railroad spur. The train comes by about once each week during the day to drop off and pickup 2-3 bulk cars at the concrete plant. It is very quiet here. This is Mid-Coast Maine where there is plenty to see and do. There are a minimum of 6 lighthouses to visit within 1 hour of the park. Any number of state parks close by, 4 miles to groceries and gas, 1.5 miles to a farm stand and fresh fish is everywhere. There is a reason they call this vacation land. Shh, try not to tell anyone... please. - freckles1219

Our all time favorite campground. Perfect if you like quiet and the most beautiful sunrises and night sky ever. Counted 9 satellites in one hour last night. Not really a place for kids although there is a pool and there is no store. WiFi is ok but no tv. Weekly stays minimum but lots to do in the area and plenty of resources nearby in Rockland. - Alan S
Aug 2016 - $55.00
My wife and I have been camping for 20 years, starting with tent to pop-up to hybrid and finally graduating to large travel trailer, and most of the joys we have experienced have been in the friendly people we have encountered. However, the Saltwater Farms Campground was, without a doubt, the most unwelcoming and unfriendly campground that we have ever visited. The staff went far beyond being unfriendly -- they were downright rude. In addition, the seasonal campers there acted as though we were intruders. We spent more money to stay at this campground than we have ever spent anywhere, yet we had the most unpleasant experience we've ever had at any campground anywhere.
This all goes beyond the fact that the "amenities" (and I do use this term loosely) were minimal to non-existent. For example, the campground advertises that they have WIFI, however, you'll need some luck on your side to get it to work since it didn't work about 90% of the time. Try not to use your microwave and AC at the same time. Also, we were told that we would probably be able to get 2 over-the-air TV stations, however, again, no such luck. So, notwithstanding having no internet and no television (yet spending $378 to stay here for a week), this still would have been acceptable in a campground that made us feel even a little bit welcome. However, this campground did not.
This is the first campground review we have given, however, we felt compelled to give it this time as this campground was such a major disappointment to say the least. We would not recommend it to anyone who enjoys a friendly atmosphere in a campground. - Washington Hogwallop
Jul 2015 - $52.00
We stayed here to attend the nearby Rockland Lobster Festival. Our spot was closest to the river, so our views were great - unobstructed, wide-open views of the river in the distance. WiFi was pretty much unusable. Our AT&T cell service also was marginal (1 or 2 bars of 3G), but that's nothing that the RV park can do anything about. There is a long gravel & dirt access road in and out of the park, which means that our car was always coated in a layer of dust, and the park won't let you wash your rig or car, so you've been warned. No cable TV to my recollection, but we could pull in a couple of stations over-the-air. It was a peaceful setting, just nothing special. - coffeetime

We were in the loop down past the office by the bay. Beautiful view. We had full hook ups. There is a very small beach area, kayaks, and a gazebo. No other amenities. We were the only ones in that area. Early in the season. It was perfect for our purposes. We were there two nights. The road in is a bit narrow. Fortunately we met no one going in or out. Staff was friendly. The grass was high, needed mowing. There is no cable. Verizon phone service is very poor. Their internet worked most of the time. - Patricia57

Pull IN site, so the view is in. All good utilities (except water stained our porcelain). Even internet access is good! Satellite friendly. Nothing to block our view our the bay. Lobster, ready to eat, delivered to our coach at the most amazing prices, you won't believe if you aren't a local! Clamming at low tide, right out your front door. So much to see and this is a great base. You need at LEAST a week! - Journey On

Looks run down driving in. Bathrooms were never cleaned while we were there and dirty. You had to drive to the bathrooms and shower, unless you wanted to use a potty, which was dirty. The showers and baths were back on the main road coming in and only one of the two showers had hot water. There were three or four nice ocean sites you could face and not have to look at the rest of the park. Nice ocean views, when the tide came in and out. - Reggie Butts
