Nestled between Mt. Desert Island and Schoodic Penninsula both parts of Acadia National Park. Lamoine was a great spot to see both. It is right next to the Ocean, and has it's own park you have access to for free with camping there. There is a dock, boat launch, picnic tables, and grassy area right there on the ocean. We had a huge site, with much grass, and trees behind us. But didn't have much shade after 12 noon. Luckily it was in the high 70's most of the week we were there, and low 60's overnight. We found the park to be a perfect spot to visit Acadia. No hook ups, but easy access to clean water, bathrooms, and a dump station. The staff was very helpful! The site we were reserved for had gotten muddy with much rain before we got there so they very nicely picked out another for us. How caring! We would definitely return there. Felt safe enough to leave our windows open 24 hours a day. We camped at Lamoine State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We bought live and cooked lobsters from one of the staff's husband. Great price and really nice people. Look for D & J Lobster along Douglas Hwy on your way into the park. Please be sure to check out Schoodic Penn, very beautiful!!

Lamoine State Park, Lamoine Island, Maine- 62 sites unserviced. You can make reservations here until Labor Day but not available or needed in the fall. Sites of different sizes and some with views of Frenchmen Bay looking out to Acadia. Many are not level. Located 8 miles south of Ellsworth with boating, swimming, hiking in a beautiful setting. Cost $32.70 for someone from another state. We have camped here many times and it was just a one night stay for us. Bathrooms are clean with hot showers. This is just a beautiful place to stay. Fishing boats leave the harbor every morning and you can watch them come back in with their catch. Sometimes you can buy a lobster or two right from the boats. Sunsets are beautiful and looking out you can even see Cadillac Mountain. 56 M is a beautiful site overlooking the bay! We camped at Lamoine State Park in a Motorhome.

Loved our stay here. Some sites for big rigs closer to the entrance which are not shaded - two rows closest to water are quieter and shaded but for mostly smaller trailers. No hookups however they have added a dump station and potable water fill since the older reviews. Easy location for visiting Acadia and the rest of Mt Desert without the hustle and bustle. Would definitely stay again. We camped at Lamoine State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed for 4 days to visit Acadia National Park. No hookups, so be prepared for some boondocking. There weren't very many people, the campground was maybe only half full. It's right on the coast next to some docks. There were a lot of fishing boats moored out in the bay, and it was fun to watch them come and go sometimes. I'd much rather stay here than in an overcrowded National Park campground. We camped at Lamoine State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Nice base to visit Acadia National Park, halfway between the two mainland areas. Very pretty in it's own right.

We stayed at Lamoine two nights as we were visiting Acadia NP for 1 day and couldn't get advance Summer bookings for Acadia's campgrounds. This campground was lovely: big, grassy, clean sites. Excellent clean toilets and showers (a bit busy, but there was a pleasant area to wait our turn). Some sites are literally on the ocean: but we easily walked from our site to numerous picnic tables on the water's edge. Very quiet and dark at night, perfect for stargazing: but don't forget your flashlight! About 25 minutes to Bar Harbor and Acadia NP visitor center (w/roadworks). No dump station, and none available on Mount Desert Island (at least so we were told), so dump before coming or for $$ fee in Ellsworth area. We camped at Lamoine State Park in a Motorhome.

Most important: site 50 is no longer an XL site. Evidently they changed numbers but it is not reflected on the Maine State Park reservation system. We stayed in site #33 which was nice and open with plenty of room between any other sites. Overall it is a nice park but there isn't much to do here unless you have a kayak or fish off the dock. There is no "town" (Ellsworth is about 10 minutes away) but you could make trips into Acadia from here, and it's probably 40 minute drive to Bar Harbor. If you are looking for freshwater to fill your tanks: you will need at least a 30-foot hose as the bathrooms (where the fresh water spigot is located) are about that far away from the road. Everything was really clean, although they always seemed to be mowing during the day. Otherwise, it is a very quiet park with lots of open lawn, picnic areas and a playground. We camped at Lamoine State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Stayed overnight on site #46, which seemed to be the only one with a sandbox area for the tent. This was a medium sized site about a car width from the road. The tree coverage is moderate, so you can't see the other sites around you. It is a short walk to the bathhouse, which was pretty nice for facilities. Bundles of wood were 5$ and was a generous bundle. They provide a small wagon to carry it to your site. I reserved beforehand, and check in was 2 min. Most sites are level, but not all, but last row of sites facing the water seemed to be the best of the bunch. I would give this park a return visit. We camped at Lamoine State Park in a Tent.

We stayed here in a 40' motorhome for $13 a night for two nights in site #60 with a very nice view of the water directly across from Mount Desert Island where Bar Harbor and Acadia NP are located. Be aware the sites are not level and most are surrounded by dense trees Sites 1, 2 & 3 are nice open sites big enough for large rigs. Note: there is no electric here and no dump station. There are water spigots some of which are accessible from your site to fill your water tank. This is the only alternative for larger rigs to stay in the Bar Harbor unless you want to spend an "arm and a leg" to stay in an "RV park" for from about $40 to more than $100 a night. We camped at Lamoine State Park in a Motorhome.

A great Maine State Park ( no electricity ). It is on Frenchman’s Bay and some of the sites have water views but there are hiking trails all along the edge of the Bay. Where else can you have lobsters delivered by a local fisherman delivered to your site for $6. We camped at Lamoine State Park in a Motorhome.

This is one of my favorite Maine State Parks. The campsites (62) are wooded and some in an open area. There are hot showers but no utilities. It is on Frenchman's Bay across from Mt. Desert Island. The views are beautiful and some sites look out to the Bay and all are in walking distance. Some of the sites slope down hill, so one needs to check out the sites but most are fine. Most sites are backins. There are hiking trails around the park, a boating and dock section, picnic area and a swimming beach just down the road. The sunsets are beautiful here. If you go down to the docks in the early evening you might be able to buy clams and lobsters right from the fishermen just coming in from their day's catch. This park is in a busy area in the summer between Ellsworth (ten minutes away) and Bar Harbor (20 minutes away) and Acadia National Park (20 minutes). Yet, if you stay here it is peaceful, beautiful and very relaxing. It is also close to the other Acadia (Schoodic P). It is only open between the end of May and about October 15. You can make reservations for 2 or more nights on weekends and 1 or more nights from Sunday through Thursday. There is a playground in the picnic area. Nice campground! We camped at Lamoine State Park in a Motorhome.
