If you like being in the woods and mountains this is it. Doesn't have some of the amenities and updates of some of the more "urban" campgrounds but the beautiful location more than makes up for it. Awesome lake literally steps away from the campsites is great for the little kids. Watch the sun set into the mountains. By far this is the favorite getaway for my family and I! - neil814
Jul 2008 - $22.00
This campground hasn't been updated in years. There are a lot of older trailers there, and the lots are unkept. If it rains there, the sites turn into a swamp. The power is 30 amp, but not sufficient to operate a single air unit without browning out. It appears that this is a campground for locals and does not cater to the traveler. When leaving here, my coach got bogged down in the mud at our site. We won't be going back there. I might mention that the roads in the western part of Maine are just awful. They are crowned and potholed, narrow and windy. - chuckfulltimer

May 2012 - $22.00
This is a nice remote campground. It is owned and operated by a very nice, older couple. Most of the camp maintenance was done by the seasonal campers. Camp facilities are good and clean, just missing some TLC, (paint, appearance qualities). There is a long hill climb on the road to this campground. A short walk to several mountain ponds. We look forward to staying here again. - JGS
Sep 2009 - $21.00
Rustic and off the beaten path describes this Park. In the fall of the year, the shaded sites seemed really dark. It is possible for big rigs to navigate the Park, but it must be done carefully. The dump is at the back of the Park and not on the way out. There is a comfy gathering room: complete with couches, TV, books, wood stove and gameroom. The laundry is adequate. A short walk takes you to a charming little pond (boats, kayaks, swimming etc.) with loons in residence. There is no internet access. Friendly owners are on site. The bathrooms and showers need a bit more cleaning. - Al and Anne-Marie
Aug 2009 - $22.00
Spent 2 nights here: very, very quiet which I liked. Campers were mostly seasonals. Maintenance levels are low and detract from the overall experience. Bathrooms were old: peeling paint, buggy, sluggy and just unpleasant. I would not use the shower. You get the impression that the owners make just enough money from the seasonals to get by and either have nothing left or no desire to improve the campground for "transient" traffic. I don't want organized activities, dances, games etc., but I do want a clean and tidy campground. Our site was level although small and we overlooked a neighbor: luckily he went to bed early and didn't "smoke" us out with his campfire. The playground had a lot of rusty tonka toys which is not what I would want my children to play with. I feel bad to write this as the people were nice. If I were a seasonal user, and all-contained (shower, bathroom), I might consider this place, but I would not return as an occasional. - blue sky

Mount Blue State Park was the first stop on our week-long ME-NH-VT camping trip. The drive was long but interesting. Once you get off I-95, it's another 1.5 hours out. Nice to look around and see the small towns then the scenery as you get closer. Our site was very nice and the loop was well occupied (this was the last week in August). No road noise at all, and you truly feel secluded and out in the wilderness. The park staff was very helpful and friendly. The campground has a sewer dump at the end of the loops, and water spigots and bathrooms were well-placed. The bathrooms were clean. We visited the beach area which is just a short hike from either of the loops. The best part of the trip was the hiking. We took the Brook trail up to beautiful Tumbledown Pond and had lunch there. We also took a drive out to nearby Smalls Falls on the second day. - NTL1991
Aug 2017 - $24.00
Clearly a Gem! Huge park with multitude of activities for families and campers of all types. Super helpful Park employees who gave us extra info on hiking and maps of the region. Very pretty lakeshore with lifeguard, places to picnic and stretch out on clean, pet-free, grass. Our space was fabulous - very clean, nice table and good fireplace with a grill. Can't wait to return in the Fall when the leaves turn. - pakngo

Mt. Blue State Park in Weld, Maine is in the western part of the state with mountains around it. The drive is interesting to get there, but follow the signs as well as a GPS. This is the third time we have camped here, but have not been back in over ten years. The camping sites are located in three loops all within a short hike to Webb Lake where one can boat, fish, swim, picnic and hike. There are 136 campsites – some are huge in loop two and three, but one should check out their site for low hanging branches, but there are sites for big rigs. The roads around the loops are small and narrow though. Since it was a Sunday night and in September we were able grab a host site right next to their new bathroom and shower complex. The pit toilets are still around the campground, but this new complex is very nice and clean. There is no electric or water hookups, but most of the sites are quite private. Plenty of hiking trails, and the lake is beautiful! It is a good stopover and a quiet place to spend a night or two when traveling. Others like to come up for a week or two during the summer for the cool nights, and many come to see the fall colors in early and late fall. They do take reservations now for the summer months, and after the middle of September reservations are no longer taken, and the price drops, too. Maine State Parks have really increased their cost for a night’s stay at their parks, but with the drop in price it cost us $18 plus $1.26 tax for a night and that is without services. - gsnakehill

This is a great campground. The owners are on site and very helpful. The restrooms are spotless and appear to be really cleaned about every 4 hours. The site was level with central hook ups. We could not get wifi at our site but no problem near the office. AT & T phones had spotty connections. - Al and Anne-Marie
Jul 2018 - $42.00
More community than campground! Friendly owners have been running it for 35 years, and with the loyal repeat business they are obviously doing something right. We arrived just in time for the July 4th parade, bingo on Fridays and lots of other activities. And yet, so quiet at night you could hear a pin drop. Lots of birds. One evening another camper brought us firewood as a "welcome" - we've never had that before! We stayed here because it is close to Bigelow hiking, but it wouldn't be a bad spot to just camp and relax either. Verizon mifi worked just OK and cell had problems. Not surprisingly, no T-Mobile service. Very well maintained, lots of tall pines with pine needle flooring. Interior roads were easy to navigate, no low branches with the tall pines. - Roaming Together

Jun 2018 - $35.00
Like other reviewers, we needed a spot to get off the road and had a pleasant night's stay here. The transient sites are in a big grassy field. The laundry was very clean. The lady who checked us in was easily confused and had difficulty giving us directions. She dated our receipt in August instead of June. Bring cash or check to pay. - ShoreXplorers
Oct 2017 - $30.00
Having some delays in Bangor, I had considered stopping earlier than planned, but we continued on to Dixfield anyway. Calling ahead, the lady said that the office would likely be closed on arrival but to just pick a site and come in the next morning. We don't usually arrive after dark, but this was easy to find and the short term sites were in a large level grassy area with lots of room. Finding a site couldn't have been easier. A seasoned couple own this place and couldn't have been nicer. They don't accept plastic, so bring cash. The WiFi and other utilities worked well. We didn't find any local OTA channels. There are a number of seasonal sites back in the woods. - Trailbuddy
Aug 2017 - $30.00
We found this campground on the fly, and couldn't have been happier. We just needed a spot for the night and it delivered. Full hookup (no cable) in a big grassy field. Clean bathrooms, private showers, pool, quiet at night, view of nearby "mountains," friendly management, etc. While the campground has even nicer sites for seasonal campers, of which there were several, ours was great for a few nights. We'll visit again if in the area. - jerry6

Aug 2017 - $45.00
The park seems to have great potential with the amenities available and area. But a lot of partying, golf carts riding all hours and fast, kids unsupervised in many areas. Owners very hard to reach and not approachable about problems. They are very short tempered when approached and rude. I have read many reviews saying the same thing so probably will find another park in the area. Too bad because it is a great area and may return under new ownership. - HappyCamper866
Aug 2017 - $47.00
Check-in smooth, very friendly staff. We were with friends and we were put in what appeared to be the shoulder of the gravel road, in the back section of the campground. They had us set up with our front being in line with their back, felt like it was an overflow area. The roads were narrow. A lot of campers were set up for the season, it appeared. Saw two with "For Rent" signs on them. Only stayed one night. - dtfoster
Jul 2015 - $38.00
They are changing over to a Yogi Bear franchise, seem to be making improvements to the sites and roads. Very shady campground, located right outside of town on a main road (stores w/I a few minutes drive). Our site was in the back row, had 2 neighbors several sites away for the first night but after that we were alone, so very private. Though the other campers seemed very aloof and unfriendly, they drove around in gas powered golf carts and no "hi", no waving. The sites are being leveled, though we almost slide off a ledge of gravel and this was our first big scare w/the camper in our 3rd yr of camping. The cable boxes are in the woods every 3 sites, so had to go out an buy 100 ft cable. The pool is huge, we didn't partake in the daily activities as we were out the 2 days there so can't comment on them. Our kids liked biking around and the huge fish in the feeding ponds, can't call it a "fishing pond". The small store was fine, kids liked the arcade.
We saw very little employees, or if they were employees they never introduced themselves or checked on us. The young girl in the office was sweet, but knew nothing about area or the campground its self, and had no means of finding us information. Asked about nearby fishing at the 20 lakes in a 30 mile radius, she knew nothing. Finally a local gave us directions to a hidden boat launch nearby w/a little beach, was perfect for kids to caught small pumpkin fish and pikes. An older lady at the desk was more helpful but only saw her the last day. The location is good, the KOA is so far out of town would not consider that. Maybe in a few years will try here again. - K S

This is a small RV park (8 sites) that is part of an Outfitter that provides Raft Trips, ATV Rentals, Cabins and Tent Sites. They also have a Pub that serves food. The sites are grass with electric, water and cable TV. They are located just off the highway so there is highway noise. The $42 rate is a little high for what they have to offer. - Michael Kibler

After 15,000 plus miles of RVing we may have found one of the rare destination campgrounds. Fifty five acres on the Kenebec river in Bingham Maine. with 2,000 foot turf runway, tent sites, platform tents, various size cabins, no limit big rig sites with great Wi-Fi and cable, well stocked bar, decent small cafe menu and a full range of outdoor activities including ATV trails, white water rafting, moose safari and more. - ctpres

Sep 2015 - $15.00
I first visited this state park in August, and, thanks to a large family group from "away" who occupied a number of campsites, it proved to be the camping trip from hell. I was not the only one who thought so---at least half the campers there complained about these people who yelled and screamed all day and half the night. The rangers tried to quiet them down, but they just mocked them, calling them "Ranger Rick" and laughing at them. Finally, on the fourth night, someone must have read them the riot act because they quieted down---until the group camping next to me (lucky me) came back to their sight at midnight and proceeded to wash their dirty dishes. I left the next morning (a day earlier than I had planned). However, I really love this area of Maine, which is amazingly beautiful, so I decided to give the park another try two weeks later. I mean, what were the changes of this group being there after Labor Day? Luckily, they weren't, and my second experience was completely different from my first. It was very quiet all week, and all I heard was the call of loons and the wind in the trees. The park itself is very nice. Large, well spaced sites, and the lake is lovely. The bathrooms and showers are clean and well maintained. There is a large block of restrooms that contain toilet, sink, and shower all in one room, which I like. My only complaint, and it is a small one, is that, because there were not too many campers in the park, the staff shut down about half of these restrooms one morning, causing a long wait. When it was brought to their attention, however, they quickly opened up more, so it was dealt with in a satisfactory manner. I am glad I gave Rangeley another chance, and I plan to return again next year. However, if I see a sign in front of a campsite saying a certain family from out of state is there, I will turn around and go home. - nativemainer
Sep 2013 - $20.00
Nice state park. Good spacing between sites. Getting in is a problem for big rigs. The entrance to the sites are often quite narrow (branches scraped both sides of my RV getting in). The access road into the park is not kept up for RVs. Several branches rubbing the top of the RV. - JimSC
Jul 2011 - $26.00
Good, separated sites. Woodsy. Quiet. A bit too noisy kid and mutt friendly for my taste. Good showers. - FtLcharliep
