Check in was at the Park Store. We stayed here in May during the week in a 30' travel trailer. The rangers and camp hosts were very friendly and helpful and things were pretty quiet. Site C72, one of 4 electric sites in this loop. a little tight driving in - sharp turns with trees and a ditch to avoid. Best to drive all the way around the loop to fill water tanks near sites 94 & 96 and re-enter the loop. Loop B (all electric sites) seems to be better suited to large rigs. Verizon had 4g and 3 bars and decent download speeds here. There were about 9 channels of OTA TV. The camp store/registration office was open daily between 8 and 5. and appeared to be well stocked. There were lots of gnats and deer flies, so come prepared with bug spray. This is a "No Alcohol" State Park - like all the State Parks in Maryland. We do have our wine with dinner and have not had any issues. A few fishing/crabbing boats head out on the canal around 6:30 am and might wake you up. There are several trails, but most are just fire trails with little of interest. The Whitetail Trail is a 1 mile Nature Trail and provides some interesting information about the area and the vegetation. Kept our small dinghy (9') in the marina for $3 a day. Used the dink to explore the water trails and go into Crisfield. We were there during the "low" season, so there wasn't a whole lot open in Crisfield. We camped at Janes Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There is an excellent Food Lion nearby. Pokemoke City is about 30 minutes away and has more shopping available and the Delmarva Discovery Center in the historical section of the city was very interesting. Chincoteague is within an hour's drive and the National Wildlife Refuge offers hiking and and an excellent visitors center. NASA's Wallops Island is also nearby.

Overall Rating:

We stayed 3 nights at Janes Island SP and had a very pleasant experience. Our sight was right on the river separating the mainland from the island, it was clean and flat. Note that water and sewer are not at the sites, only electricity, however, water faucets and restrooms are plentiful. There is a very nice marina with kayak & canoe rentals. The 'island' is essentially an uninhabited (by humans) marsh in the Chesapeake Bay. There are marked kayak trails throughout the island. We rented a tandem kayak and managed to get lost but eventually made it back. Fishing, crabbing, kayaking and canoeing are prime activities. The terrain is flat and the roads are bicycle friendly as well. There is a camp store and activity center with great activities for youngsters. We camped at Janes Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Being astride a marsh and the Chesapeake Bay, bring insect repellent and expect to use it frequently. Only a mile from the park is the historic Chesapeake Bay town of Crisfield. From there one can catch ferries to the inhabited islands in the bay, Smith Island in MD and Tangier Island in VA. We went to Smith ($26 per person round trip). It was a pleasant experience and worth doing.

This was our first state park experience We were pleasantly surprised. Campsite was easy to get into not too crowded. Restrooms were clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. It was off season but perfect for us. Enjoyed the trails and walking along the docks. Want to return and trying kayaking the water trails. We camped at Janes Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Rate includes the booking fee. Nice park with nicely separated sites. typical pine forest seashore campground. Not friendly to really big rigs as roads are tight. we were OK with a 35' with tow but have to hit some corners just right to make it and ended up disconnecting part way in. All sites are back in. Bath house was in good shape. Water points were in the center of the loop and a bit inconvenient. Dump station is a tight fit for a big rig and we chose wait until the next park. Nature Center is great for kids and adults. Kayaking is a must here as the "land side" where the campground is just the tip of the park. Most is only accessible by boat and human powered versions are better than motors. Canal that separates the land side form the island side can be busy with boats and jet skis but not a bother. Green spotted flies were beastly. Season runs June-July and we were in the middle of it. They were well controlled in the campground but lay in wait for you when you tried to walk the roads or trails. DEET is a must. Once Green flies are done then apparently mosquitoes start up in Aug-Sep so come prepared. No bug issues out on the water. The town of Crisfield is a couple of minutes away and has all necessary services. We camped at Janes Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Very nice State Park located just outside of Crisfield town proper. Large, wooded spacious sites with electric and water. Easy access dump station. We were only there one night on the way to somewhere else, but we were intrigued by this park and plan to return for a longer stay. You can rent kayaks and explore the kayak trails through and around Janes Island. Or bring your own.
It was quite hot and humid during our stay and the biting flies were out in full force. During night a cold front came through and next morning it was cool and crisp and the flies had gone elsewhere. Bring repellent! We camped at Janes Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Second trip here. First one in spring. Lots of rain causing standing water in town of Crisfield, not too bad in campground. When sun came out we were inundated with mosquitoes and no-see-ums. Once in a kayak on the water bugs were not bad at all. Breeze kept them down. We will go back just not in late spring. Fishing was good, stripers and speckled trout. Good site facing the water in pet loop. We camped at Janes Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Town has large number of seafood restaurants. Bulkhead in Jane's Island State Park is Maryland free fishing zone, no license required. Boathouse in pet area was recently renovated and is very nice. My favorite state park in Maryland. Waterfront is beautiful. Best feature is the grassy waterfront where you can fish, play and relax next to the water. Not a swimming park unless you have a boat to actually cruise to Janes Island! Was told the bugs would eat us alive. Nope! Not bad at all. We camped at Janes Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Janes Island State Park, Crisfield, MD - April 30, 2015 with electric hookups and a Maryland Senior Pass (50% off) for Sunday to Thursday camping the cost was around $17.

This campground is on the Daugherty Creek Canal leading to the Chesapeake Bay in southern MD. Our site was right on the canal in the electric loop where we watched the birds, boats and sunsets. There are three loops some with or without electric and specific pet loops for a total of 104 campsites. It was beautiful set under tall trees and the sites are well taken care of with fire pits and brand new picnic tables. There is a marina with boat slips, and over thirty miles of six color-coded canoe/kayak trails of the Janes Island Water Trail, where one can stop at some sandy beaches. Boaters can find excellent crabbing and fishing opportunities - license needed. The park also has cabins to rent some open year round. There is also a picnic area, playground area, ball field and volleyball court. Environmental education programs are year round and take place at the nature center. We never have camped here before and we loved it. The girl at check in was very pleasant and the rangers patrolled often during the day and night. The bathrooms were very clean and the showers hot. Great place to camp! We camped at Janes Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Rate is Friday/Saturday for electric and without Maryland Senior Discount (only available Sunday through Thursday). Rate includes a $4.50 per night reservation/transaction fee. Construction is ongoing so facilities were limited (no camp store, inconvenient kayak/canoe rental). Campsites are quite nice, well defined, level and clean. The bath house is modern and clean. Our site (#71) was not a waterfront site but did have a nice view of the water and the marshlands of Jane's Island. The park was quiet and had only a few campers the weekend we visited (Mother's Day). We stayed on site 71. We camped at Janes Island State Park in a Motorhome.

The Good....This is a nice park for fishing, crabbing, and kayaking/boating. There are some geocaches in the park and surrounding area. The bicycling on local roads is great, with little traffic and considerate drivers that gave us lots of space. Crisfield has a museum worth seeing. The Bad....biting flies and mosquitos are so bad that you have to be covered in bug spray from head to toe, and some still attack. While we had a great view of the docks, I wouldn't chose a site near there again, due to the dead fish smell that wafts over from the fish cleaning station. We camped at Janes Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

At first this park don't look like much but the fishing is great. The staff is very helpful and nice. Love the town that is close by with local catches to eat. If you love to fish and crab this is a great park. We have been there twice in the last month. Restrooms are also very clean and they have a nature center and activities for the kids. One of my favorites We camped at Janes Island State Park in a Tent.

OK, if you like blue shell crabs you will love this campground as the town of Crisfield is the blue shell capital of the world! You could even catch your own in the campground. This state park has weekly programs for the kids we were there on Memorial Day Weekend and went to the Soft Shell Crab Festival in Crisfield. The campground was in great shape. The waterfront sites are to die for, they are as good as it gets. We had a site on the outside edge that even allowed us to get satellite, however if you are trying to get satellite stay on the outside and you might have a shot. We had a 36ft fifth wheel and didn’t have any problems but realize it is a state park and the larger RV’s might have a problem so check out the website and pick out you site there. The campground is the finest state park on the Eastern Shore (in my opinion), however there are some issues that are beyond the control of the capable and friendly staff, the bugs! They are bad including ticks and mosquitoes so make sure you pack your repellent. I also don’t like their dump station (I didn’t dump) and I wish they had 50 amp. This is a wonderful state park and a wonderful town with plenty to do. We camped at Janes Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
