Be aware that if you are out of state you have to pay a $31 passport fee to use any Michigan state parks. And state parks don't have water at your campsite so you have to fill your fresh water tank at the dump station when you enter. This is a beautiful park with great hiking/biking trails and is situated between 2 lakes, so it is a boating/fishing nirvana. Nice sandy beach, large grassy area for games. We had a pull-through with 50 Amp hook-up but no water. Not much space between sites but not a problem for us since no one was on either side of us. Our site was grass and dirt with some gravel. Lanes are very narrow. Very clean park and quiet considering how crowded it was. Bathrooms and showers very clean. We camped at William Mitchell State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Cadillac is a pretty town with many shops and an historic downtown. Outdoor sports are very popular. If you don't feel like cooking while camping, there are fast food places and restaurants nearby as well as a laundromat.

Have found this campground has activities for all types of campers. There was cardboard boat races on the canal with craft shows and a pancake breakfast for a small fee. Restaurants within walking distance makes the park user friendly. Paths can take you around the lake and the city of Cadillac can be enjoyed. Within a short distance all of the big box shopping and chain restaurants are available. Park was clean, quiet, and wood was available within the park. This was our second year and we were on sites 103, 102, 106 with a good view of the lake. We camped at William Mitchell State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Sites are smaller than some of the other state parks we have stayed at, but the variety of activities available makes up for it. There is swimming, fishing, boating, hiking, biking, horseshoes, a playground and scheduled activities through the park. There are lake view sites and benches along the waterfront to sit and watch the lake if you are not on the water. We had site 38 and still were very close to the lake and had a nice view. Our site was shady but many sites in the front of the park were sunny. There are several golf courses nearby and we liked it that we could bike or walk to several fast food restaurants just outside the gate. If you have a boat there is plenty of room to tie up on the lake or get a canal spot and tie up in the canal. There is a small beach on the south end of the campground or you can walk across the road to a larger beach on Lake Mitchell. The only negative experience was our neighbors were loud until 1 am one evening and the park rangers did not seem to patrol the park and enforce quiet time. We will definitely return. We camped at William Mitchell State Park in a Tent Trailer.

Park is set between two lakes with a boating channel between them. Looked like good fishing. Level, bigger rigs and a mix of shady and sunny. Close access to lakes with many water front sites with docks. We camped at William Mitchell State Park in a Motorhome.

This was our first trip to Mitchell and it won't be our last. The sites were clean, well kept, and deep enough so the trailer was off the road with room for truck along the road. In park roads were wide enough so there were no problems navigating the park. Locations of eating establishments outside the park made the stay even better. Fishing is available in the park, along the canal, or across the road at the day use area. Dump facilities were well done with room for four rigs at the same time. Fresh water was available through out the park via faucets. Activities were planned for the weekend but we left before that. The city of Cadillac, hiking trails, and disc golf activities kept us busy for the entire week. We will return in the future. We camped at William Mitchell State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a very family friendly park, and well maintained. The park actually sits between two lakes. Lake Mitchell and Lake Cadillac are connected by a small canal. There are sites along the canal, but they are currently being updated and were not available at the time we camped. There is a small swimming beach on the campground side, Lake Cadillac, but a larger one on the lake Mithell side which is the day use area. Nice and sandy with some beach weeds, but they are raked daily. Looked real nice but we did not swim because it was a little cold. There is also a fishing pier in the campground. We caught a lot of fish, mostly bluegills and small perch, but if you like to fish and have a small boat, the lake fishing is excellent. Also, the park is next to the highway, so some sites are close to that. We were near the fishing pier. Anyway, a Burger King is right next to the park, so if you really need a break from camp cooking it's an option. Very cool. They have sites to accommodate just about every type of RV, and if you call the park they will be happy to answer questions. This was our first time camping at this park, and we will definitely be returning. I have two kids and they both loved it. The City of Cadillac is about 7 miles from the campground. It has everything downtown so check it out on those rainy days. We camped at William Mitchell State Park in a Tent Trailer.
