Lake Hudson State Park is beautiful & I would come back. The campsites are large and private. There are massive hedges of shrubs, small trees and branches separating each site so you can't see your neighbor. The sites are also off-set so you can't see someone directly across the road. Lake Hudson is also a "Dark Sky Preserve" and has no external lighting - no street lights. No building lights. It's also low on amenities as it is classified as a semi-primitive campground. There are two outhouses (one for each loop); they are new but still outhouses. There is one water pump. You know, a hand pump. The only modern amenity at the campground is electricity. And when it was put in the park, it was done thoughtfully-the electric stations are tucked away into paths cut in the brambles so many of them are not seen from the road; you may need an extra electrical cord. There is also spotty internet connection. I couldn't receive 3g or 4g service, but I was able to text. Hubby sitting next to me would have service, then it would go away & he'd have service again in a couple of hours. So if you need internet, this might not be the place. Heck, I didn't even manage a yelp check in! Blast! It's very quiet. Very little street noise-only when the breeze is at the right angle. There are very few planes. Even with weekend campers, the park was quiet well before quiet hour. Aside from the night when the largest storm of the summer came through with rain, thunder, lightening lasting close to four hours; the weather has been good. But that storm! It might have been the second worst storm I have camped in - and I have camped in some bad ones. The thunder & lightening was so fast & furious that it just all rolled together. You didn't know if the thunder was starting or finishing. We camped at Lake Hudson Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

This is a semi-modern Michigan State Park. 30 amp electric is available but the power pedestals are shared between two sites which means you could have 75' or more to hook up. No water or sewer available at sites. There is no dump station or bath house but there are pit toilets. This is about as close to boon docking as you can get but still have developed sites. Some front sites are large enough for most rigs but the further you go back into the camping area the tighter it gets. I was able to get around towing my 31' 5th wheel but I wouldn't want to try it with anything much bigger. The sites are grass with fire pit and picnic table, large enough to stretch out with brush and trees between sites so you don't see the site next door. This spring has been wet and cold so the majority of sites had very damp ground. Lots of campers were getting stuck or digging deep ruts as the pulled in and out of the sites. Not sure if the weather played any part but the mosquitoes and ticks were terrible but from talking with other ticks seem to be a problem here. Our two dogs got about 6 ticks, we got 4 ticks and we never walked in the woods or or any of the paths. There is a swimming beach and a boat launch about 1-1/2 miles away. The beach looked nice but the water was still too cold to go it. I doubt I will go back here again. We camped at Lake Hudson Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.
