This is for 12 mile beach campground within Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Boondocking at its finest. No cell service, radio or tv stations, no hookup, just a campsite. Sites 1 - 15 allow generator use from 8 am to 8 pm. All other sites prohibited. Its enforced. Bring everything you need, its a long ride to town. There are restrooms that are kept stocked with what you need by parks dept. folks. Park service website limits trailer length to 40'. You must make a reservation via the national park service website. We camped at Twelve Mile Beach Campground, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in a Fifth Wheel.

It was raining when we pulled into this USFS campground located on Twelvemile Beach near the Pictured Rocks on Lake Superior. The sites were very tight with lots of trees around, perfect for tent camping but barely enough to back our 25 ft. motorhome into a site. The campground looked full, but we did a loop hoping we would be in luck. A van with a 15 ft. travel trailer was getting ready to move on as we passed by and he offered us his spot. The spot was very narrow with trees around and we managed to fit in but were unable to put our side slide out and had to use leveling blocks. Very shady with nice big birches all around. No power or water, pit toilets, so make sure you are tanked up when you arrive. This was also a no generator site, but it had a nice fire ring and picnic table with a latern post. In the morning after the rain we ventured out and discovered the beautiful beach views with stairways down over the dunes to the beach on Lake Superior. As we were packing up a camper was driving by before 9 am and asked if he could claim our spot. This is definitely a camp to come back to, but get here early because sites fill up fast. We paid $7.00 for the night with a Senior Pass. We camped at Twelve Mile Beach Campground, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in a Motorhome.

Want a long and windy, pine filled driveway that leads to your own beachfront property? Well you can have it at Twelvemile Beach Campground! These shady sites sit on a gorgeous sandy bluff overlooking Lake Superior with steps leading right down the beach for a day of fun! The White Birch Interpretive Trail is right in camp, so there's no time wasted getting back to camp for those s'mores and fireside chats. This storybook campground can handle smaller RVs (I'd say less than 26') and trailer and is a tent campers dream! Just be sure to show up early to snag a good spot; sites are first-come, first-served. Reserve a site if you can. Lakeside sites are $16 across the drive they're $14. Can be Windy, but the winds blow away the bugs. We camped at Twelve Mile Beach Campground, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in a Tent Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The list is long, first, walk down to the beach, amazing, brave the cold water and dive in! Plan on at least a day (or two) to see the highlights of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, surely a must see for anyone looking to see America's Grand parks! Walk the trails to see sandstone cliffs, beaches, sand dunes, waterfalls, lakes, forest, and shoreline Head in to Munising, take the Pictured Rocks tours (Fantastic views) Kayak, rent a boat.

This facility is in the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore of Michigan's UP. One mile off H58 sits this tiny gem. Watch for the one sign on the road for the turnoff or you could miss it. The road off H58 is only one mile long but it's a pretty bumpy, hard packed dirt road that jostled us pretty well. While there is a host on site in the campground, there is no ranger station. You self register here. You find an open spot then complete a form with payment inside that is dropped into a receptacle, cash or check accepted. One portion is pinned to your site post to show the site is taken. If you spend more than one night and leave for day trips, leave something in the campsite proving it is occupied, like a screen house, chairs, tarps, etc. The registration slip on the post is not enough by itself to hold your site and you could return to someone else on your site. We arrived on a Monday in early September at about 3:30p, thinking we'd have no trouble finding a place. Wrong. We got the last open site. We found a way to park up on top of a hill and still be level, but it was a squeeze. Their website says they are so popular, you should arrive mid morning to find a site and I now believe them. There is a beautiful though rocky and windy beach to walk and enjoy and the campground sits high above that in a sandy, woodsy forest. Our site was quite near the staircase down to the beach and it's a good idea to use the stairs. People run down the tall, sandy dunes but that is causing terrible erosion to the dunes which are falling away. We set our chairs out at the edge of the woods on the top of the dunes and waited for the sun to set. Cameras and tripods in hand, we captured a beautiful sunset to remember our night here. This is also a very active bear area. We didn't see any but there are metal food boxes scattered about for those in tents to stash their food. You do need to be bear aware here. This was a great find. We camped at Twelve Mile Beach Campground, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

This is deep woods and you need to watch for tree branches hitting a motorhome. The ideal set up here would be in a tent but there were other Class B+ and C motorhomes in sites. We saw no large Class As.
