Oct 2018 - $40.00
We stayed here for eight days in October. The campground has paved roads and sites that are easily accessible. We stayed on a full hook-up pull through site that was long enough to accommodate our fifth wheel (40'), my truck, and my wife's car with room to spare. The campground hosts were friendly and offered helpful advice about the campground and the area. We enjoyed our stay and would come to this park again. The park has a nice sandy beachfront on Lake Erie. A few other items worth noting: The campground is a long way from the entry to the park (2.2 miles). The campground is very close to Detroit Edison's Monroe Coal Plant, there is always white noise in the campground coming from (I believe) the emissions equipment on the smoke stacks. From the beach you have a view of both Detroit Edison's Fermi nuclear plant and First Energy's Davis-Besse nuclear plant ... no issue or concern for me, but worth noting if you have concerns staying in close proximity to nuclear power plants. - Greg and Kim
Sep 2018 - $28.00
Nice park just a stone's throw from the Detroit Metro area. Located on Lake Erie with all sorts of inlets and islands nearby. Lots of fishing opportunities and a generously sized boat launch. Usually there's a breeze off the lake to disperse a lot of the campfire smoke. Sites on outside loop are quite large, but have electric only. The full hookup sites are a bit tighter. A few years ago, Sterling lost most of their trees to Asian ash borers so there's not much shade yet. Sterling has one of the biggest dump stations I've seen in a state park so you shouldn't have to wait a long time on Sunday to hit the road. Really nice paved walking/biking trails throughout. These trails also connect to the Monroe Historic Trails so you can walk your feet off if you want to. - 4forsmores
Aug 2018 - $50.00
This is a pretty nice place for a state park. It's located right on Lake Erie with a nice sandy beach and great dedicated swimming area. The boat docks are in a protected cove. The sites are extremely long, with some shrubs between sites for privacy, and nice big grassy areas. The bathrooms and showers were very nice, though we didn't use them. Some of the sites are full hookups, but all of the ones right on the beach are electric only...too bad. No trees in the center of the RV park so Dish satellite worked fine. Quiet with only a train in the far distance. We would have given it a higher rating, but with no other amenities (cable, Wifi, pool, playground, etc.), the price is way too high. Our price includes a $9 per day park use fee which should have been included for campers. - Hands For Him

Jul 2017 - $21.00
(Price reflects the monthly rate of $595 + electric.) This is an older, family-owned and operated park with many seasonal rentals. Navigating the park with our big rig (43-foot 5th wheel towed by a Volvo semi truck) was not a problem. Staff was friendly and quick to help. Bathrooms are dated but clean. Most sites back onto canals, so there are lots of geese and ducks to watch. Sites along the canals have nice trees (cottonwoods, mostly) for shade. There are also some pull-through sites available with no waterfront and no trees. There are 6 washers/dryers for $1.75/load. The "playground" is dinky and the "swimming beach" is not something I'd dip my toe in, mostly for the aforementioned waterfowl but also because it looks weedy and cloudy. Good place to stay for exploring the area or visiting with family (as we did). The park had a big BBQ and fireworks display to celebrate the Fourth of July. - a_elkins
Apr 2017 - $48.00
Just arrived and found a nice clean campground. Large sites big enough for camper tow vehicle and two other cars. Friendly staff ready to help with anything. - MelanieSorenson
Jun 2016 - $48.00
OK park. Nothing to really complain about, but noting of real note for me either. We were here to visit the Henry Ford and Greenfield Village, so not here to relax in the park so it fit our needs well. Site was level. The full timers have made their home here, and not in a bad way. Nicely kept up. I think I would camp at another park, just because of the closeness to the beach, not because our time here was unpleasant. - steammaker

We love, love, love Harbortown. We've stayed here many times and plan to do so again this year. It's always clean with lots of activities. We especially love coming here at Halloween because almost everyone participates, the kids collect lots of candy, and it's hard to visit all the sites within the one hour allowed for Trick or Treat. I'm writing this review because Site #103 is the worst site that we've stayed in so far. It is an end space right across from the bathroom and showers, so that's a plus, but it borders the main road and faces ALL the car and pedestrian traffic. This is especially annoying in the evening if you have a campfire, because you will be blinded by car headlights. If you sit outside during the day, there is zero sense of privacy. The lawn area also seemed much smaller than the other end sites along the road. We will specifically ask NOT to be put in this site ever again. - Morning Star
Jul 2018 - $48.00
One of the best options when visiting Detroit. It takes between 45 minutes to one hour to get to Motor City from the campground. The campground is nice, clean, has great customer service. Great full hookups, concrete pads, picnic tables, fire rings. Nice swimming pool, basketball, sand volleyball court as well. The negatives for me were the sites we're close together which made us feel we we're in a sea of RV's. The campground just feels a little generic and lacks character. No mature trees or anything that gives it a campground feel. More of an RV park. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again, but it is not a memorable spot. - Undivided Nation
May 2018 - $49.00
This is a HUGE park, paved roads, paved pretty level sites and overall well kept. Many things for the kids to do, but some are not open yet as it is early in the season. We are on the south side of the park and right next to the train tracks, so everywhere in this park you will hear a train at some point. So far it has not been a problem, during the weekend, don't know how it is during the work week. - weighit

Sites are tight, 50 amp, water, No Sewer, Cable TV and WiFi. Way too expensive for the services provided. I am handicapped and the walk to the showers was too much and just for over night we did not un-hook the toad. Site T-1 has no shade. - Sundancer268
Sep 2016 - $23.00
We stayed at Wilderness Campground using the Passport America rate. The owners were very nice people, I wish I could give the campground a better review. On our first day there we walked around the grounds, and found mostly seasonal sites that were not all well kept. The pull through area we were in was in a wide open field with no trees that bordered a road. It rained most of the time we were there, which added to the tired feeling of this campground. Also, season was winding down for them. As I walked around the lake I noticed trash (beer cans/cigarettes) piled in the fire rings of the cabins that were vacant - it was just depressing. We paid $23 a night with the PA rate, all except for the last night, which was full price - it was not worth the full price rate (only water/electric - no sewer), but it was easier for us to stay one more night. There are no laundry facilities and the bathrooms did not look very clean. I would not stay here again. - WHR NXT
Jul 2015 - $35.00
Wow, just wow.......and I don't mean this in a good way. We opted to stay here for an overnight stay.. They gave us a "pull through" which is just a spot in a field and we had to drive through a wet area in the field to get into our spot, almost getting stuck in the mud. Michigan is tough for finding a quick overnight spot when traveling through, so you take what you can. In hindsight, a parking lot looks like a palace! Lot's full time residents and some interesting RV/Trailer set ups, kind of trashy. - scubajoe

Was fun for Halloween, looks like it would be lots of fun in the summer. Sites were grass/dirt and mostly level, power and water were good. My only complaint was the pet fee $5 a night per dog (we have 3) was too much! The dogs only left our site once for a walk, and we pick up with our own bags, no nice grass at site to damage, so why that cost? It cost us $75 just for the dogs during our stay. :( Liked the park, but not sure we'd return because of the high pet fee. - Duran
Sep 2018 - $48.00
This was our second time at this CG. The location, near Ann Arbor, works well for us. We were here about 10 years ago and some things have changed since then--not all for the good. To their credit they have a very nice looking sandy beach and waterslide area that looks like it would be a big hit with the kids. There's plenty of room to take dogs for a nice walk and they have a fenced in dog park. The sites are dirt and grass and mostly level-ish. There are lots of trees which we like. They don't appear to obstruct any of the sites. The park is right off the highway and easy to access. The traffic noise is not a problem. More like "white noise" during the night. It didn't disturb our sleep. However, the sites are very close together and I wouldn't want to be here in July or August when it's very crowded. Also, even with only a few other campers, the water pressure was low. There was no cap on our sewer connection and according to my husband, the washrooms/showers at the laundry area--including the laundry area--were dirty. - erosenbe
Aug 2018 - $77.00
Average access but campsites were tight and departure was difficult. Old campground dressed up with a swimming lake and a water slide. Expensive. They have three pull thru sites and only two 50 amp site. Service at check in was unprofessional. It was rushed and often interrupted at the same time. We stayed one night. The only night in30 years of camping that I had to call security. A lengthy and memorable issue. Will not stay there or recommend it for big rigs.( we are 40') - 12858

Sep 2016 - $38.00
The campground is approximately 5 miles from I-75 traveling on acceptable country roads; a bit narrow but fine if done slowly. Roads and sites in the campground are gravel and relatively level. We drive a 45ft MH with a tow and were able to navigate the campground without removing the car. Utilities and sewer placed well and worked fine. The owner checked us in and was very friendly and helpful even getting up early to let us through the gate the next morning, although we could have done that ourselves. The campground is mostly shaded making satellite and OTA reception poor. Verizon hotspot worked adequately for email and basic internet surfing. There are a few sites with less tree cover which would alleviate this issue. We did not use the restrooms or laundry so cannot comment on that. Campground is gated so security felt good. We would use this campground again if we were in the area and needed a spot to stay. - LvR

This place is great! The sites are well maintained, bathrooms checked regularly during each day, very clean, fantastic activities for kids during the days, the DJ they use is wonderful, the staff friendly and helpful. The seasonal campers are really nice and willing to help out not only each other, but weekenders too. Their swimming area is the best in the area, always sparkling clean and fresh. They have security on site to keep it family friendly. Can't beat it. - Lynn1980

The best campground I've ever been to. The family does so much for their campers. There's a fishing pond and a swimming pond. Lots of things going on put on by the owners. It's our fourth year here. - Donna T

I have stayed at probably 100 or more campgrounds in my life and have NEVER been treated with such disrespect in my life! RUDE does not even begin to explain how we were treated. From the minute we arrived the lady who works at the front gate treated us like absolute dirt! We were all 100% paid for yet she treated us as if we were sneaking in? We were told that we could only have one car at the camp site. I asked if I could pay for a second car so I could drive back there. NO. But every campsite around us had two cars on their sites? Just wanted to enjoy the weekend! Every single time we went by the gate she would question us. She literally treated us like dirt for 5 days as if we were criminals? Spent four days trying to avoid the gate as much as possible so we could just relax and enjoy our stay. Fast forward to leaving. My husband and I took the truck over to haul our camper home. We stopped and tried to be friendly. Explained to the gate lady that we were simply picking up the camper to take it home. She said that was fine..... and you are coming straight out correct? I said absolutely! We drove back hooked up the camper and headed out. My daughter wanted one family picture at the Pirolli Large chair to document their weekend! We literally pulled over jumped out took a few pictures and the gate lady screams at my husband! " I THOUGHT YOU WERE LEAVING?????" Then my son-in-law gets a phone call after we left asking us to never return because we "lied"one too many times? Then I attempted to call the owner back to explain my situation and try to find out exactly WHAT we lied about? I asked to speak to the owner she said "this is the owner" told me never to return and then hung up on me! Refusing any type of conversation! Obviously they support that behavior with their employees! - Beyond Irritated Camper

This park is decaying, dirty and nothing like the web site describes. We got stuck in a space so small we couldn't fit. Potable water came out nasty brown color for 5 minutes before it cleared. Place is old. Super tight. Run down. Full of long term rigs. If you have a big rig, this really isn't the right option. With a month reservation they then told us we'd have to move every few days. We made arrangements to leave. Ok for an overnight passing through if you must. - Ken Camp
May 2017 - $1.00
I was working night shift, sleeping during days. Trying to sleep, they have bulldozers, backhoes, weedeaters all around me everyday it isn't raining. They put pallets and boards to walk on to keep you out of the water. Too noisy here, the lots are difficult to back in and out because of the railroad ties sticking out of the ground at both sides of all the driveways. No room between campers to open your awning, too close. I'm surprised there have been no liability lawsuits from the pallets and boards. I had planned on staying here till November; not now, looking for another campground. - J Lewis
Aug 2015 - $38.00
Definitely an older park that shows its age in several ways. Most notably, the restrooms, showers and laundry could all use some cleaning and repainting. While they were not dirty when we were there, they were just dingy and old, and were definitely not of the quality we'd expect at the price we were paying. Two dryers were out of order in the laundry. Picnic tables were run down, and the electrical boxes also showed their age, but ours did work fine. The "free wifi" was completely inaccessible at our site that was relatively close to the office; I did not see any repeater antennas in the campground. I could access WiFi if I walked closer to the office. Again, not at all what I would expect for $38 per night. Plus, the charge included $3 extra for a/c, which I probably should not have paid because it ended up being cool that night, and $2 extra for sewer. I would feel more positively about the place if those both were included in the $33 base rate. But at least there is a Good Sam discount. Overall, this place would be fine if the rate were no more than $20 per night. As is, I would definitely try to find more quality for my buck somewhere else. On the positive side, the check-in staff was very friendly. - Edistobob

PROS: Good value. Electric and water pull-through 60 ft grass site for $30/night. Trees. Decent view. Good spacing. Poor wifi at our spot, but good wifi from office.
CONS: Staff not friendly to transient (non-seasonal) campers. Rejected delivery my Amazon package. This demonstrated lack of respect for campers. My package was labeled per the manager's instructions, but was rejected upon delivery. After paying for six nights, one would thing they would try to take good care of their guests needs.
HUGE rig-wrecking potholes in gravel entrance Sherman road, almost damaged the undercarriage of my rig. Ugly algae in pond. Mostly seasonal campers. Utilities on wrong side. - tdrager
Aug 2015 - $30.00
Interior gravel roads in dire need of repair. Potholes and dust everywhere. We experienced some rain, and many of the sites were flooded. 30 amp service and old equipment. There was some arcing in our power pole and it caused our power cord to melt into the receptacle. Thankfully I had good power monitoring equipment in my rig that prevented damage. No sewer either. For the fees charged, this campground is not a good value. The staff is below average in friendliness. Not bad, but certainly not the outgoing friendliness we see at so many other places. The county roads leading up to the park are atrocious. Both asphalt and gravel, and both in terrible, terrible condition. We traveled at a crawl and were weaving across both lanes just to avoid potholes and crazy-rough patches. I realize that is not the fault of the owner, but it certainly has a bearing on my overall satisfaction. - User3367
Sep 2012 - $28.00
Campground roads are gravel and not well maintained. The camp sites are grass and almost level. We camped at site 20. Good satellite reception, 30amps, water, no sewage and partially shaded. I reserved the site over the phone. No one was in the office when we arrived at 4pm. We would camp here again, but only for a overnight stay. About 20% of sites were occupied. - tethomas

This has long been a favorite campground for us but we have not been there for over 5 years. Everything we like about this State Park is still there with even some improvements. The campground now offers some 50 amp sites. They still do not have water or sewer at the sites, however. Each site is large and private. Along with your RV, a tent is also allowed on your site. The sites are separated from each other by bushes and trees so you hardly know that you have neighbors. Our site was absolutely level and was big enough for two RV's. Some sites are even larger. We were separated by our neighbors by a line of bushes and trees. The only RV's we could see were across from us. There are many walking and biking paths in the State Park. Everything is no longer than 1 1/2 mile away. There is at least a half mile of beach right on Lake Erie as well as an inland water spot for the smallest of children that is fed by lake water. The park also boasts an 18 hole golf course, nature trail, cottages for rent. marina, and lodge with meals, rooms, and gift shop. - rvrose
Sep 2018 - $28.00
What a pleasant state park! Asphalt roads, plenty of trees and greenery between sites and a large grassy area at each site. Very private campsites. Electric only but come prepared for that and it's a wonderful place to stay. We were pleased to find out at check-in that they are in the process of adding 50 amp and that some sites already have it. It isn't listed on the website but they are sites 1-29 and 96-100. I don't know how soon they will add more. We did not use the restrooms. Nice bike paths in the park. Our site 14 faced north and had trees providing shade in the afternoon. Some sites have more shade than others but you can see that on the website. Plenty of grass at the sites and around the park for dogs. No wifi but Verizon hotspot worked fine. Lots of OTA channels. We did not even try satellite for our 2 night stay. I gave it a 9 instead of 10 only because they don't have full hook-ups but what they do have is awesome. We would return. - thekites
Aug 2018 - $14.00
This was a return visit. And again the park did not disappoint. If I have a negative about this park, it's the lack of shade. We managed to find a rather large tree that blocked the afternoon sun. - Dennis D
