This is a great place! Bathrooms and showers are very clean. Large campsites. Plenty for the kids to do. My only complaint is the employees cutting grass were running over litter. We picked up what we saw. We camped at Sterling State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We stayed here for eight days in October. The campground has paved roads and sites that are easily accessible. We stayed on a full hook-up pull through site that was long enough to accommodate our fifth wheel (40'), my truck, and my wife's car with room to spare. The campground hosts were friendly and offered helpful advice about the campground and the area. We enjoyed our stay and would come to this park again. The park has a nice sandy beachfront on Lake Erie. A few other items worth noting: The campground is a long way from the entry to the park (2.2 miles). The campground is very close to Detroit Edison's Monroe Coal Plant, there is always white noise in the campground coming from (I believe) the emissions equipment on the smoke stacks. From the beach you have a view of both Detroit Edison's Fermi nuclear plant and First Energy's Davis-Besse nuclear plant ... no issue or concern for me, but worth noting if you have concerns staying in close proximity to nuclear power plants. We camped at Sterling State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Nice park just a stone's throw from the Detroit Metro area. Located on Lake Erie with all sorts of inlets and islands nearby. Lots of fishing opportunities and a generously sized boat launch. Usually there's a breeze off the lake to disperse a lot of the campfire smoke. Sites on outside loop are quite large, but have electric only. The full hookup sites are a bit tighter. A few years ago, Sterling lost most of their trees to Asian ash borers so there's not much shade yet. Sterling has one of the biggest dump stations I've seen in a state park so you shouldn't have to wait a long time on Sunday to hit the road. Really nice paved walking/biking trails throughout. These trails also connect to the Monroe Historic Trails so you can walk your feet off if you want to. We camped at Sterling State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a pretty nice place for a state park. It's located right on Lake Erie with a nice sandy beach and great dedicated swimming area. The boat docks are in a protected cove. The sites are extremely long, with some shrubs between sites for privacy, and nice big grassy areas. The bathrooms and showers were very nice, though we didn't use them. Some of the sites are full hookups, but all of the ones right on the beach are electric only...too bad. No trees in the center of the RV park so Dish satellite worked fine. Quiet with only a train in the far distance. We would have given it a higher rating, but with no other amenities (cable, Wifi, pool, playground, etc.), the price is way too high. Our price includes a $9 per day park use fee which should have been included for campers. We camped at Sterling State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed 3 nights. Our sight was asphalt long and a pull thru but had a dip in the middle where we had to park so we had to put our wheels up on three corners. Didnt use Wifi if they have it? The camp host has lots of water toys for u to borrow and information even thought we didnt use any thing. Access was easy and moving around the road was no problem. I would come and stay again. We camped at Sterling State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The walk around the lakes are lovely on asphalt walk/cycle ways. Lots of different birds to see. The lake was very warm water and I had to go out a little bit to get into a cooler section of water.

It was a great place to stay, to visit Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village, plus enjoy Monroe area attractions. However, the park is big, the sites are close together, there is no shade. I thought it was expensive for not having full hookups, and for such a plain looking RV camp. It appears a lot of families spend their weekends here fishing. Very busy on the weekend. We camped at Sterling State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Enjoy stays here in early Spring & Fall when it is not so crowded. Great walking & bike trails. With all that water frontage would love to see a section for a "dog beach". Sites are large with lots of surrounding grass areas. Park is well cared for. We camped at Sterling State Park in a Motorhome.

Used the park for a one nite stay to be convenient to Dearborne and the Ford & Greenfield Village. Worked out well. We were pleasantly surprised at the care and site maintenance in the RV section and the beautiful views of lake Erie. Our pull thru gravel site was level and utilities were fine. Bring your own data! As out of staters we might have been charge the additional $8 entrance fee but we were told this was being waived for single night stays. We would stay here again short term. Spent 4 nights in a 42 foot 5th wheel and the rate reflects per day rate but does not include the annual Michigan State Parks Pass you must have ($34.00/year). The park is right on Lake Erie and has great site lines, however it is book-ended by two large power plants. The bike paths are nice but pretty bumpy as are the interior roads. The sites are macadamed with grass and you are allowed wood fires. There is no WiFi and no cable TV. There are campers of all sorts and walks of life but everyone was very nice. Our pull thru was plenty long enough with some buffer between us and the next site. the electric and sewer connections were good although wish the sewer connection was threaded. All sites are sunny but we had cloud cover for most days so it was cool. We camped at Sterling State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

You are 35 miles from Ann Arbor and 35 miles from Dearborn and a couple miles from downtown Monroe, MI (home of General George Armstrong Custer). Ann Arbor is neat for University of Michigan museums and Dearborn was excellent for the Henry Ford Museum and the building of the F-150 truck.

A word of caution, if you live out of state, you will need to buy a DNR pass for the park. If you have a motor home and are towing, you will need to buy two DNR passes. You can buy them by the day or for the year. When made our reservations, we were told we would only need one pass for the Jeep, but when we got to the park, we had to buy 2 of them. That should be taken into consideration, if you decide to stay here. We had a back-in and didn't have any problems getting situated on the site and no problems locating the connections or getting connected. We had some electrical problems, low voltage on one leg of the 50A, and when I called the RV office, they had the ranger there in about 30 minutes. Turned out to be a bad circuit breaker, which the ranger promptly changed. AT&T cell phone and hotspot and satellite TV worked well. Our OTA antenna shot craps, so we don't know how well OTA TV worked. This is a nice park on the shores of Lake Erie. There is a swimming beach and boat ramps in the park, not far from the campground. Bike and walking paths through out the park. This is a nice park, and we would stay here again. We camped at Sterling State Park in a Motorhome.

We have stayed at this park several times. It is always clean and well maintained. We stayed in site 122 which is a full hookup pull through site. We like it because its on the end of a row and therefore has a large "front yard" however the asphalt is in bad condition and we had quite a bit of trouble leveling our trailer this time. The walking/bike trails are also asphalt and are in bad shape. This park is overdue for some much needed maintenance to roads, trails, and campsite blacktop. Price shown does not include the required vehicle pass. We camped at Sterling State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

We rode our bikes into the little town of Monroe and visited a museum there. Also ate at the Public House in Monroe and enjoyed it. Day trips to Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield village are highly recommended. Also the tour of the Ford River Rouge Plant was excellent. Lots to do and see in the greater Detroit area.

We camped on the South end of the RV park in a spacious area convenient to the bath house and a short walk from the beach on Lake Erie. The park was full for the holiday weekend but didn't seem crowded. Most of the sites had few trees for shade except for those on the outside loop on the extreme South end. Except for the beach itself there were few amenities and although we had good cell reception there was no wifi. There was a consession stand some distance from our site but no camp store or souvenir shop although you can purchase firewood. We camped at Sterling State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

We ran into some road construction and detoured slightly north of the Park. This worked out well as we noticed a sign directing us to Calder's Dairy near Carlton, Michigan, a working dairy farm that is famous for their Chocolate Milk and Ice Cream. They provide tours year round with lots of farm animals (and smells) to enjoy. When you visit Sterling State Park bring your kayak/canoe or other floating equipment. First Impression: Very attractive, large state park, beautiful views. Asphalt biking/hiking trails. Safety: no concerns. Access: Exit 15 off I-75, north on N. Dixie Highway about 1 mile. GPS took us right in. Excellent signage. State Park access road in very serious need of resurfacing. Office: Buy (if you don't have one) a Michigan DNR "Passport" (entrance fee) at park access gate. CG office for registration only. No store. Credit cards accepted. Online reservations available. No price discounts. Facilities: No pool, spa, or fitness room but you do get a rather large Lake Erie to play in. No rec center. No laundry room. Very nice restrooms with private room showers, clean and modern (score "A"). No propane sales. No playground in CG area. No off-leash dog run. Campground: Not in a flood plain. Roads are "2 lane" wide, asphalt with gentle turns and no overhead obstacles. Big rig friendly. Coaches won't have problems. Tents can go in any site. No yurts or cabins. Sites are all spacious, asphalt, back-in and some pull-through, grass landscaping, sufficiently level. Not all sites have all utilities. Electric and water at rear of site with FHU-20/30/50; no meters. Medium water pressure with "ok" taste. Sewer pipe is 4" unthreaded, in a cement pad just above ground level. Some sites have patios. Aging picnic tables. Each site has a fire ring. Good satellite views. No cable TV. OTA TV found 42 channels with good reception. No Wi-Fi. Verizon phone and 4G at 4 bars. Recycle bins for just about everything, next to the pavilion. Noise: Occasional, distant railroad, no aircraft, no local traffic or interstate noise. Unfortunately, some weekend campers don't understand "quiet". Bug Report (late June): black ants not an issue. Runners: CG roads okay for running but watch for tree roots on trails making surface irregular. Yoga: sites are good for your mat. Conclusion: FHU price ($35) a bit high if you're looking for amenities. Otherwise, this SP is a keeper. We camped at Sterling State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Monroe, MI is Michigan's 3rd oldest city. Red Lobster less than 1 mile away, towards I-75. Drive north for restaurants and fast food. Wal-Mart at N. Telegraph and Mall roads. Groceries at Meijers (best diesel $2.279) and Kroger. Banks and credit unions. Ace hardware store. No VA health facility within 15 miles. Silver Sneakers at Go M.A.D. This is a nice state park - with a lot of TLC this would be a great state park. No shade in the area where we were assigned - lots of open space for kids to play. We had a pull-thru site with gravel and grass. Utilities were good with 30 & 50 amps services. Our picnic table was not usable because some previous user set there charcoal briquette BBQ on it and almost set it on fire - large black charred circle in the middle of the table. The lake was close by and it was nice to walk on the beach - swim at your own risk. We had no neighbors - there were at least 5 or 6 sites between us and the next RV's. For a one night layover this is not bad. There is a a daily fee and then another park fee per day which ratchets up a decent per day cost to more than you would expect. No laundry facilities that we could find. Little bit of a drive to stores and restaurants . We camped at Sterling State Park in a Travel Trailer.
