This is a small City owned park that is run by a wonderful couple. Very easy and welcoming check-in with direction to our site and help parking. Some people may consider the sights close, but we thought they were fine. They are gravel sights with a paved patio. We were at back of the campground so we didn't get much road noise. We came here to ride the paved bike trails, which there a miles and miles of, and they are awesome! The trail comes right up to the campground but you don't get strangers coming through. The towns of Montague and Whitehall are darling with plenty of unique places to eat if you enjoy eating out. White Lake and the Marina is right across the road. There is a grocery story right across from the campground so no traveling to get groceries. Cable TV, you have to get the box from the office but it was no hassle at all at check-in. Also good free WiFi. We would highly recommend. - ShirlC
Aug 2016 - $35.00
We stayed at - and reviewed - this campground last year, so this is an update. It is still a very nice city owned campground. The sites are not real large but very neatly kept and each has a concrete patio. You can walk to the adjoining grocery store and ice cream stand. The bike trail system that is accessible from the campground is great. You still need to borrow a proprietary cable box to get the cable, which is somewhat a pain. The bathrooms are older but not overly used since almost all sites are full hook-up. Wi-Fi worked well except for the one day that it didn't work. There is usually a constant background noise that seems to come from a small factory that is somewhat close, but it isn't overly annoying. Overall a good campground and we will return when in the area. - RXA-ADM
Aug 2016 - $35.00
Our site was at the far end of the campground which meant that we were furthest away from any road noise. Being a campground in the middle of town, I was a little concerned about noise - but found it to be extremely quiet. Sites were gravel with a concrete patio, some shaded and others open. - kluza2786
Jun 2014 - $34.00
Clean, nice, caring. THese folks know how to run a park. THe management is super helpful and keep the park and bathrooms immaculate. - mkohl
Jul 2010 - $35.00
Wonderfully located and very quiet, River Farm is an ideal location for relaxing, fishing, boating or just strolling through the nearby towns of Pentwater, Hart, Silver Lake and state parks. It is near I-31 but far enough away to not be bothered by traffic noise or trains. Roads and sites are gravel and ample for big rigs with slideouts and awnings. Electric and water are excellent. Only a few sites are good for satellite TV reception but local TV has only 2 stations which breakup frequently. Owner lives on premises and is very friendly and helpful. We would stay here again. - loneranger
Aug 2016 - $31.00
Park was clean and the staff could not have been nicer! Lots are spacious with sunny/open exposures. Site surface is gravel, dirt and sand. Features a fire ring and picnic table.
Complaint is that there is no TV signal (5 channels), no Wi Fi even at the store where there was supposed to be some, and no cell phone signal.
In this day and age I feel that a campground that is charging a pretty good price should have at least TV and wi fi. - User3353
Jul 2013 - $39.00
Many different sites available. Electric and water are popular. Good level full hookups. Wi-Fi very weak and sites are controlled to limit traffic. Had to use smart phone for email and trip planning. Hiking trails are good, and canoe/kayak/tube livery is close and excellent. Very friendly and helpful staff. A well established park (I used it in 1978) and they continue with improvements and new sites. - Hornman
Jun 2013 - $41.00
We really enjoyed this park. We had a site right on the creek and kids played in it all day long. They also have a decent sized pool, playground, basketball court, fishing lake nearby, small arcade, and small camp store. It is a large campground that is spread out into smaller sections which makes it seem smaller than what it actually is. Our site by the creek was quiet. There is quite a bit of shade and nice sized lots. It is 15 minutes away from Lake Michigan. Montague and Whitehall are both very nice, quaint towns. It is on White River so if you like to canoe it would be perfect. - focchick
Aug 2018 - $89.00
Great park. Very spacious with level paved sites and roads. Nice clean fire pits. They clean fire pits and wash tables between occupants. Close to amusement and water park so good place for families. Helpful staff. Water pressure needed to be better. - 69 scotty
Jul 2018 - $64.00
This was a very nice park. Lots of families staying for extended periods. If you are a smaller fifth wheel or a camper the spaces are well suited for you. Your RV will fit on the concrete pad & your tow car on the concrete space adjacent to it. If you are a larger motor home like us it is a tight squeeze to fit the tow car in. There is a dog park but it was off in a corner under the trees & looked like it would be loaded with mosquitos. There are plenty of places to walk your dog other than that. The laundromat was very nice. The office staff was very nice. The park is gated for security. You get a key card that you can drop in the box outside the office if you leave before the office is open. If you bring pets proof of vaccination is required at check in. We had no problem pulling in satellite signal. There is cable, too. The amusement park across the highway did not cause a problem while we were there, either with noise or traffic. - Connie's Co-Owner
Jun 2018 - $45.00
Everything at this park is well done. The grass is green and cut; the pads are level, utilities are good, streets are wide, laundry is clean, pool is nice. It is the best place to stay in the area. - Freedom Bus
Aug 2017 - $27.00
This is a very quiet, well-maintained park West of Montague, MI. We were on site 3 which is level, paved and shaded. We had full hook-up but brought our own water. The beach is about a half mile west but you can walk down a two-lane dead-end road to get there. The play area for kids is small and about a quarter mile away but there is a large sandbox on the grounds, complete with buckets, shovels, etc. About half the sites are seasonal but the trailers are in good condition and everybody picks up and puts their stuff away when they leave. There are a number of sites that are grassy but most seem to be level concrete pads. I rated it an 8 just because it's so remote ( which made watching the meteor shower fun). I would have no problem going back. We camped there in a motor home. - AITG
Jul 2017 - $30.00
Loved this place! Small, quiet campground with very nice grassy sites. No cable; WIFI was nonexistent, and cell phone (Verizon) service was very poor. Short walk to beautiful Lake Michigan. Only complaint was that we had to pay $5/day for a car pass even though we were already paying to camp there. Didn't make sense to me, but still a great value! - Bonnie66
Jul 2015 - $24.00
There were no signs at our (northbound) exit for this County Park. We had to rely on our GPS which isn't always correct. When we did arrive near the end of Meinert Road, there was a sign for us to turn right into the campground. We noticed most campsites were occupied by fifth wheels and trailers, probably by seasonals for use during weekends. We stayed here mid-week and we were about the only people in the campground. This campground offers 67 campsites with water, electric and sewer hookups. It has a modern bathroom with showers and a sanitary dump station. Ice and firewood are offered for sale.
All sites were well maintained and not trashy. We selected a grassy site with 30 amp service as most 50amp sites were taken. There are lots of trees but we were very lucky to get satellite service, although we frequently lost the signal. We had no service for our MYFI or our cell phone but the campground does have WIFI.
We were disappointed that the camping area was about ¼ mile from Lake Michigan. The day use was at the end of the road at the beach. This campground was okay but a little out of our way for short stays, therefore we probably would not stay here again. - gatordan
Jun 2016 - $30.00
This very large campground is a hidden gem. There are limited sites with power so make sure to have a reservation if you need one. I was a little hesitant when I heard that the campground only had port-a-potties. I will say that these were amazingly clean and odor free. They have these placed every 500 feet around the campground. The roads are dirt and it can get a little dusty at times but it never bothered us at our site. Big rigs will have no problems navigating the campground. Many of the sites are right on the water and the kids were able to swim right from our site. There is a beautiful sandbar with swim platforms in the middle of the lake. We did not fish but our site neighbor did and was able to catch a large bass every second or third cast. The owner and his wife were very friendly and made rounds regularly. It is clear that they take pride in the park and keep it well maintained. We did not receive a WiFi signal (nor did we ask about it) but we had strong AT&T 4g so it wasn't an issue. - TeamErnzer
Sep 2015 - $18.00
We stayed one night mid-week in September. There are only a few sites with water & electric. Many sites have electric and most are dry camping only. All sites have a view of the lake.
It's located right off of Hwy 31 but there is a lengthy dirt road to the main gate. It's still big-rig friendly but maybe not for the high-end motor coaches.
Owner is friendly, helpful and made his rounds in the evening. Great rate for PA members. - Craig H
Jul 2012 - $35.00
Lake is larger than it appears on Website. Horseback riding and Golf is right across the street at Double JJ resort which is in Rothbury. A store is right down the road and the town of Montague is very close for shopping or canoeing. The lake has a lot of lakefront sites, but many of them don't have a lot of shade so you have to think about how the shade moves with the suns movements to get a shady spot. Also has more shady private sites off the lake and a large group area with several nice sites with electric grouped together. Clean fire rings, clean everything. Very clean porta-potties everywhere. Very clean campground. Only two shower stalls but clean and adequate as this new campground is not very busy yet. Really nice roped off sandbar swimming area in the middle of lake is connected to a peninsula so you have a nice safe place for swimming with little ones. Also a floating swim dock with a ramp that you can jump off into the deep side, a fishing dock, and two floating volley ball courts. Nice sandy bottom lake with small beach areas in front of most all of the lake front sites. A road goes around the campground in a circle which is great for bike rides. Also has a bike trail towards the front of the campground and another trail towards the back. Only ice, wood, and inner tubes for rent available on site. There is a store is right down the street. Close to Michigan's Adventure. Lots of wildlife and catch and release no license fishing. Only small no gas motor boats allowed. The only thing we did not like was a bit of highway noise at night after all the birds and crickets calm down. Beautiful night sky. No frills, but it has that back woods nature feel with lots of blueberry plants everywhere and lots of privacy because there are a Lot of sites. Saw a crane living right in front of our camper on the water. - csunbean
Jul 2018 - $50.00
Don't be fooled by the older reviews, this campground is under new ownership and is a great place to take the family. Lots were well kept, facilities very clean, great club house and lots of water fun. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Camp hosts were helpful as well. Plenty of options from full hookup to primitive to cabins. We will definitely stay here again!! - L Baker
Jul 2018 - $42.00
The campground is under new ownership and they have done wonders here! Beautiful lake for fishing and kayaking! Clean facilities! Wonderful and friendly owners. We have a spot on the water. You do hear road noise but not very bothersome. Plenty for the kids to do. We will be back here. - Deb E
Aug 2015 - $37.00
Was told noise wouldn't be surprised problem, it sounded like 31 highway was running through my side yard. Lake had algae growing and is not fishable. Staff not friendly. PASS THIS ONE BY. Roads are rough, park on grass, trees extending into narrow gravel roads. - Butcherboy13
Aug 2016 - $39.00
We were greeted by a member of the staff standing a few yards before the campground entrance. She directed us to a location to park the camper so we could register. Upon leaving the registration office, we were greeted by the owner, who handed us a bumper sticker for the campground after he had seen the 100 plus stickers on the back of our camper. We were directed to our site which was large and spacious. As we set up, the owner came over and we had a pleasant conversation, very nice man. Overall the bathrooms were clean, though the staff had their hands full trying to keep up with the kids coming and going with wet sandy feet from the lake the campground sits on. The grounds are well maintained and the site was level, but be warned they are sandy. We camped here for 3 nights and will happily stay here again. - alkurta
Jul 2016 - $45.00
After reading some of the other reviews we were a bit skeptical before arriving. Wow were we pleasantly surprised. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and helpful. We had a large group (1 deluxe cabin, and 4 pull thru sites which were huge) everyone we were camping with loved the place. The kids loved the park especially the zip line and jumping pillow. The water was very clear and the beach area was nice. The water slides were an added bonus. They maintained the sites very well, we saw many people leave and the staff was there cleaning each site even raking the fire pits.
There were rules, but I understand why, in order to keep safety and the ability to have fun activities like the water slide there has to be rules.
We rented kayaks and a flat bottom boat which was fun as well. Overall we were very happy with our whole experience at the KOA and will be going back in the future. - Kari Amore
Jul 2014 - $45.00
My family's stay was pleasant. The owners and staff were very friendly. The beach and water toys were great fun for the kids as was the good fishing and the trails. Our site was rather small as well as quite sandy, which meant a lot of dust flying around. - AlCamMum
Jul 2012 - $65.00
This campground is either very good or very bad. The good: There is much to do. There is a modestly priced and very nice indoor water park, outside horse back riding, a weekly rodeo and pig roast, several restaurants, and a beautiful golf course. The bad: The restaurants and golf are quite expensive. And, the campground is heavily wooded, making it very difficult for a 43 foot RV like mine to maneuver. There is no WIFI and no cable. It is impossible to get satellite reception. Also, the cell phone coverage is poor. And, most of all, the trees need to be trimmed. It is very frustrating and maddening to scratch up your RV just getting in and out of a campground. This place is so close to being great. There is even a a flat open spot just outside the campground, that could be set up for higher end RV's. If Double JJ wants to bring in higher end campers for their expensive golf and food, they need some higher end camping spots. Until then, it is unlikely we will return. - sse
Aug 2008 - $79.00
Dusty? Yes. Overpriced? Yes. But the Double JJ is a fun place to stay, and the CG is quite attractive, with lots of shade for most sites (helpful in the summer) Those trees do pose a hazard for larger rigs, though, especially threading through the narrow roads in the campground. Very family-friendly place, the western theme is fun, and there is lots to do. The pool area next to the campground is beautiful, with several fun pools, none too deep, and an awesome waterslide. Horseback riding is plentiful (albeit extra charge), and the rodeo (also extra) is fun. Would consider going again, perhaps for a special occasion. - PokyRVer
