First - see the review dated July 2010 - it summarizes most of what I'd share about the layout of each campground. Bottom line - the Lower Campground is a traditional state park campground. The Upper Campground is newer - and while the sites are mostly spaced far apart (see addt'l notes on that below, there is essentially no tree coverage whatsoever. You're staying in prairie. There are trade offs for that: the shower building is much newer and features individual lockable shower stalls that each have their own access from the outside of the building - awesome. There are some FULL hookup (sewer/water/electric) sites available, as well as several pull-through sites. However, the loops are paved. Why is this bad? Because most people drive on it like it's a roadway rather than a place children are playing. Here are my site tips for the UPPER campground only: Do not camp in 18 if you can help it - it's next to the restroom building and EVERYONE seems to drive to the building at all hours rather than walk. Super disruptive to your relaxation time around the fire. 33 and 40 are excellent sites - at the top of the bluff overlooking the lake...great spots if you can get them. 30/31 and 35/36 are suuuuper close together but the state park site discloses that. Only do one of those if you're going with someone else or have no other options. They are RIGHT next to each other. Be sure to check out the state record cottonwood tree and Hiking Club trail (accessible via Lower Campground) while you're there! - MNAnna

We stayed here over Memorial Weekend. It is a very wide open campground with very few trees. The views are very pretty of Lac Qi Parle. We stayed in the upper part of the campground. It was too windy to use our awning. We loved our site, but when we walked around found a few that we liked better. Very quiet and peaceful park. Staff was great. No shade. We will be staying here again for sure. They have about 7 sites that have electric/water and sewer. Very clean park. - jejmjj5
Sep 2013 - $30.00
$30 per night was for a full hookup site in the upper campground. In addition, there is daily parking permit of $5 or you can purchase an annual MN state parking pass for $25, which is good for 12 consecutive months from the date of purchase. Many recreational opportunities are available in the surrounding areas including biking/hiking/cross country skiing trails. Campground is within manageable driving distances for shopping and other activities. Spacing between sites is generous and most sites are level or need only modest leveling. Sites are all in full sun in the open prairie in the upper campground. We received three bars of 4G on our AT&T phone. - DD Rolling Ranch

This is a nice, well kept campground ran by the city of Dawson, located in the beautiful city park, and is adjacent to the very nice city swimming pool. Park has numerous places to picnic, ride bikes on bike paths, play ball and bar b que. We stayed here several days and enjoyed the quiet, peaceful atmosphere. They have nice showers/restrooms available that were mostly clean, though mosquitoes were always present while showering. They utilize a self pay system, with pay envelopes in a box mounted on the side of the building on the way to the showers. Very easy to use as long as you have cash. Overall, a nice clean, quiet park that was a pleasure to stay at. We look forward to staying again when in the area. - Southwest Travelers
Aug 2008 - $15.00
It is a nice small town campground. It has new bathrooms and showers. They are very clean. It has a new town pool next to the campground. - Shadoe
Aug 2018 - $25.00
My 8/12&16 reviews give better descriptions of the park. 26 of the RV sites are pull-through and FHU. There is a row of 16 electric only back-ins and 13 rustic sites. The bathrooms and laundry facilities are in the middle of the park. There is a playground and the hotel pool can be used by park customers. - Jerry S
Jul 2017 - $27.00
There is a tiered system to rates, S-Th is $27 for full hookups and it goes up on Friday/Saturday. All the staff is extremely nice and helpful, pads are huge and made of concrete, well maintained and power was excellent! Spaces have large grass area and a fire pit. Each site has a picnic table too. Walking distance to the casino or they will shuttle you over. Cute town nearby with lots of history....we loved it here! - Cherzie33
Aug 2016 - $27.00
We last stayed here in July of 2012. See that review for a better description of the park facilities and amenities. One error I made in that review, was saying that I did not think the hotel had a pool. There is an indoor pool in the hotel and it is available to the RV park guests.
We had one of the FHU, pull through sites with a large, fairly level cement pad and a good 20' of grass between sites. The trees are getting bigger and may soon pose a problem for rooftop satellite dishes. There is no cable TV and I did not check antenna reception. Since there are about 30 non-sewer sites, the bathroom facilities would be completely inadequate if even half those sites were occupied. Also, the laundry (2 of each machine) is really cheap. I have never seen the newer front loading washers for only $1. The dryers are $1 for 45 minutes.
There are numerous garbage and recycling throughout the park. I saw cans marked plastic, glass, and aluminum. Like many smaller casino RV today, the RV office is not always staffed from morning to night. We had to look for the guy find at 2 P.M. and the office was closed at 6 P.M. - Jerry S
May 2012 - $29.00
Nice state park with lots of hiking trails and horse trails. Not much privacy between sites. The only separation between sites was prairie grasses. - PackerFanRick
Aug 2010 - $34.00
Nice park along the Minnesota river. Level sites with some shaded sites. Good separation between sites. Two 18-foot diameter canvas tepees are located in Yellow Medicine River Campground. I really enjoyed the hiking trails through the glacial hills and prairies. There is no RV dump site in the entire park! They recommend a dump station located in Granite Falls at the water treatment plant, near Hardees. - teekay
Jun 2014 - $15.00
No, it's not near a rifle range...it's near Shooter's Bar & Grill. Well, it's not really near anything, so it's quiet and peaceful except for the occasional train horn. Just outside town. No pull-throughs, but the sites must be 100' long, spacious and treeless, so even my grandmother could back in with no trouble :) Level, grassy sites and the nicest owner. Mosquitoes can be bad. Price reflects weekly rate. - TheRollingJones
