Staff is great= friendly and helpful; tried to help in any way needed. We thought we reserved a 50 amp site but when we got here it was 30 amp (there are only two 50 amps in the park). Since the weather was cool we did not need our a/c so we had no problem. The site was set off by itself with woods on 3 sides. The utilities had to be run under the trailer but we had enough long hoses to make it work. Utilities worked fine. The site is level. Their office has gifts available for purchase. A short walk on their property takes you to a nice breakfast/lunch/bakery. It was lovely to be near Lake Superior. There is a 12 mile drive to do laundry in Lutsen. - GailMOH

Excellent location on the shore of Lake superior. There are a limited number of FHU sites. Bike and hike trails are very close by. Customer service was excellent. Very clean bathrooms. - durham4926

Note - 2019 Bathrooms are a tear down, no flush toilets or showers. We're self contained, so not an issue and we finally scored a site on the lake in 2019. As usual, Temperance exceeded our expectations for hiking and camping (see previous posts). We have never experienced such bad mosquitoes as we did this past summer in July. This campground is so popular that we weren't able to complete our stay in our favorite site. Our next site, 21 was closer to the lake, which was wonderful. - brendajoro

Loved this park. We spent 6 nights in site 24E (electric site) in the C loop, which is the quiet loop. Site was wooded and mostly private - we couldn't see other campsites - other than the one directly across the road from us. Across the road and down a few steps we found a beautiful trail to the lake, where we could hike along the shore and rarely see a person. - Rather-B-Camping

This is one of our top 5 favorite State Parks. The park is very well maintained and the bathrooms are very clean. Due to the heavy rain, the river was unusually high and fierce. Hiking is always great here, but can get a little congested. Bike riding or walking on the Superior trail is highly recommended. Make reservations early because this campground is full from June through mid-October. We stayed in site 37 electric, which is the size of 2 campsites. The fire pit and picnic table are on the opposite side, but we didn't mind due to the amount of space in this site. The campground map does not list that site 19 is a pull-thru site and is large enough to accommodate a big rig. The sites on the lake look wonderful, although, we've never been lucky enough to get one.
(Update to the previous review: this is not the only electric State Park on the North Shore. Tettegouche (our favorite) and Cascade River also have electric sites.)
There is no dump station here, so you will need to go to the town of Silver Bay, about 20-25 minutes South or to North to Cascade River to dump. - brendajoro

I have been staying at Crooked Lake Resort for years! I bring both my family and church youth group there regularly, and we always have a great time. The grouse hunting is great in the fall. They have very nice cabins (no running water) and excellent shower facilities. The sauna is wood-fired and as hot as any I've enjoyed. I highly recommend Crooked Lake Resort for those who don't mind a little "roughing it." The campground and cabins have "out house" facilities, but there are modern bathrooms available in the restaurant. The lake is excellent for fishing, and the shoreline is shallow and good for swimming, especially for children. You won't be disappointed! - Pastor Marc Monte
