This park needs some serious work. Spaces designated for RVs are fairly haphazard. We plugged into an electric box that already had at least one RV plugged in with other cords coming out besides. Spaces very close to each other with very little room for parking a vehicle. Woke up every morning at 5:30 a.m. to the neighbor talking loudly/yelling to her (five--yes, FIVE!!) pitbulls while allowing them to relieve themselves behind our motor home and never once cleaning up after them. Bathrooms were scary--not private at all. Shower curtains hide the stalls with no doors on the bathrooms themselves. My husband went in the first morning to find the stalls in the men's bathroom covered in vomit. Park itself is in the great neighborhood of St. Anthony but inside the park is a different story. Very run down. Manager nice and does what he can but owners should hire more help! A few rules regarding age of units and pet restrictions would clean up this park in a hurry. Ridiculously overpriced considering we couldn't use the facilities at all. We only used the park for sleeping--didn't use bathrooms, laundry, etc. - desertrat74
Jul 2015 - $32.00
Approximately 60% of the spaces are fulltime, low income residents. Though the majority are nice people, there are a few unsavory characters. The manager is a "Jack of all trades". He is a wonderful, caring person...but stretched between this and 2 other sites. Access to the site was acceptable. the original site they put us in did not allow us to extend our awning as we were literally 4 feet from campers on either side. We moved to another site, that allowed use of the awning and was approximately 20' from the unit next store.
We chose this facility because of its proximity to downtown Minneapolis and the fact that the public transportation stopped right outside the park. (We do not tow, so access to public transportation in an urban environment is a real plus. That and reliable, accessible power and water were the only positives! - Ncw
Oct 2014 - $38.00
Many permanents, which creates noise in the AM when they leave for work. Some units have a bit of junk around them. The park office closes mid-afternoon and after that the manager must be called. He apparently has another full-time job but is very helpful and cooperative. Utilities were good. This is not a destination resort but should serve very well for a day or week or more. This is a very urban setting for a park but it is close to the center of town. We felt quite safe here and would definitely stay here again because of it's central location. - gene a

In addition to the nightly rate, there is an $8 reservation fee, and you will need a vehicle permit ($5 daily or $25 annually). The nice thing about the annual permit is it's good at all Anoka county, Washington county and Carver county parks. When you choose your site on the online reservation system you are able to view an image of the site. We had a great site, large and grassy, but there are a lot of sites that are narrow or mostly dirt. The sites are mostly private with lots of trees and bushes in between them. There are a few sites grouped together that would be good for a group of up to four units plus an additional tent on each site, however, it appeared to be a long walk to the restroom from those sites. There are a lot of trails and a nice playground. - Juniper94
Sep 2016 - $22.00
This is a real gem of a park less than 30 minutes north of the Twin Cities. The sites are among the most generously spaced we've encountered, with lots of trees and foliage between. There are also some sites that are grouped together with less foliage between, suitable for a group with 2, 3 or 4 RVs. Most sites have water and electricity, and a large picnic table and fire pit were in all the sites. We felt that the price/night was very reasonable compared to campgrounds with similar amenities (power/water), and we saw many sites that would be big rig friendly (we were in a 32' TT).
Surrounding the park is a nice system of trails (both paved and mowed grass) for hiking and biking. The city of Coon Rapids is very close by (5 minute drive) if you need a store or other such amenities. Bunker Hills Regional Park (which houses the campground) also features houses riding stables, a disc golf course, a regular golf course, an archery range, and Bunker Beach water park. The park was quiet and well maintained and we enjoyed it so much that we have already booked to return here in a few weeks.
Of note, you do have to purchase either a day or annual park pass for Anoka County ($5/day or $25/year) in addition to your camp site fee, but we have found this to be common with state and county parks. - Canadian in Minnesota

Nice Municipal Park. Quiet, among the trees. We camp in a Little Rig "Tear Drop" style RV only 15' long w/o toilet or shower, plus we like to eat outdoors using the picnic table and set up our dining canopy for sun and weather protection and thus rely on condition of campgrounds facilities and being nearby our site. So our critique is focused in that area. Best part of this campground was the large roomy tree shaded sites and the vegetation green space between each one giving you plenty of privacy. Each had picnic table on cement pad and a fire ring with gravel pad for your RV, plus ample room for tents on the grass. Our site 11 was close to restroom/shower/laundry building although laundry was closed due to vandalism. Relatively new cement block building with typical public municipality layout. Shower stalls were roomy with cement bench on each end, but only had 1 wall hook above the bench to hang clothes or towels, had to lay other items on the bench. Same for communal sink area, only an air dryer provided but no wall hooks, shelving, or paper towel to clean up after use. As result sinks were constantly messy and dirty even though maintenance cleaned them in early morning. No air movement or ventilation inside of building and after a shower it became extremely stuffy (see my photos). A small playground is adjacent to the restroom/shower building. All roadways and site pads are compacted gravel - and in walking distance to the lake for water activities. Bring mosquito /bug spray - lots of those pesky critters in the park. - dido

We really liked our campsite across from the donkeys, llamas, goats and peacock! We had plenty of room on this end site and no problem to get satellite reception. Other campsites appeared a bit haphazard in arrangement and some were crammed together. There were also some nice sites surrounding Ham Lake. The entrance in is long, wooded and very narrow with a couple turnouts if two RV's meet. (Seems a tree or two could be removed) We were both a little concerned about where we were headed and were pleasantly surprised at the campground. While some of the signs and picnic tables could use some sprucing up, everything was clean and well kept up. The staff was friendly and helpful. They have mowed walking areas through the woods and fields and a small playground for the kids. We did not use the dump station, it appeared to be difficult to get to and would block vehicles when using it. It is NOT a resort but a very comfortable, older style, friendly mom and pop type operation. They were recently bought out by a resort operation so things may be modernized a bit. - NanciRV
Jun 2017 - $12.00
This park is old and new. Full hook up, 50 amp sites in the office area are filthy, overgrown and in the trees. Lots of shade but very hard to back in to some. Three to four rigs need to hook up to same water outlet. Wifi non-existent at our site. Great at office. Rest room and shower are old, calcified fixtures, and in need of total remodel. - Rsunde

Competent and friendly office staff.
Poor roads-don't have a clue of how to maintain.
Many sites not level- there is no excuse in this day of slideouts. Some power posts and sewer connections poorly located.
Could use some updates which I understand they will be doing. - Nick2

The sites are sandy with grass & very shady. We were in a 40' motor home & although the site was barely long enough for our rig, there was adequate space alongside it to park our towed vehicle. I would give a higher rating if pads were stabilized gravel or paved. Our site was spacious. We were able to shoot our roof top satellite through the trees for TV reception. The bathrooms are immaculate and the staff are very friendly & helpful. Our Verizon had 2 bars. - Biker2

Jul 2018 - $35.00
So here is the thing...it was a few days before the 4th of July weekend and we needed a place to park the rig and set up a tent that was near St. Paul and East Bethel. After searching EVERYWHERE for the telephone number for this place, we gave up and decided to drive up. There was a number on a sign at the entrance (I will try to get this from my buddy and post later) which we used to call the owner. The owner was an older lady who came right out from down the road in a Kabota type vehicle and was very nice. The park was by a huge lake with what seemed to be 100 plus trailers and motorhomes...most definitely looked permanent to semi permanent and some looked to be there for the weekend. The only spots they had available were in a grassy area with no facilities whatsoever other than water faucets were could walk to and a pit toilet within reasonable walking distance. The cost of 35 per night seemed very unreasonable with no hookups and we felt we were taken somewhat advantage of since no other campers stayed in our area for the entire weekend. We also had to move tree limbs manually each day to enter and exit our area. The owner lady was very hard working and we were grateful to have the spot after all was said and done. - CaliDiscGolf

Beautiful park. Very spacious sites with plenty of room for rv and tow vehicle. Well maintained and restooms were very clean. There was a 7 dollar daily charge for your vehicle also. Lots of trails for hiking/biking. Lots of green grass and very well maintained. We camped in a travel trailer. We were in the area for a family event and the park was only 5 miles from family making it very convinent. We will definitely stay here again. - Sharlou

We were gone from the site most of the time. The park is drop dead gorgeous. Ample spacing between sites. If you can handle moving your fireplace wood in a wheel barrow that would be good (they don't appear to deliver to your site). You can fill your water tank with potable water at the pump out area. - Cory S
Aug 2018 - $41.00
This is one of the few RV parks on the east side of Minneapolis/St. Paul and it is convenient to the Minnesota State Capitol Museum and other museums. Sites are wide, long, unlevel and expensive ($7 more a day for the toad without an Iowa State Parks pass). While we were there our site (14) and two other sites had reoccurring low voltage on one phase of the electric service. (It was hot, in the 90's but the CG was less than 30% occupied when we were there.) The park is large and lovely; Verizon service was good and there were some OTA television channels but we will not stay there again. - Mom_of_Two

This is a large regional park I would give an 8 rating to. I would give a 6 rating to the RV sites, but we only paid $26 per night. The park is in a lovely setting in a deciduous forest. There is a lot of grass under the trees, a lake, and miles of paved walking trails. All the staff were friendly. The outer loop around the campground loops is paved. The campground loops and sites are dirt. They do get muddy when it rains. Sites are comfortably spaced. Four loops do not have hookups. Three loops have 30 amp electric. Two loops have 50/3o electric. The electric sites are electric only. There are no water hookups at any of the sites. There is an RV water fill station shortly after you enter the campground. There are water spigots throughout the campground where you can fill jugs. There is a dump station. There is occasional train noise, but it's not bad. There is road noise from the county road outside the park. You'll notice it, but it didn't bother us. We were too early for lake activities. In season they rent several types of boats and paddle boards. Site D12 was up a hill. The following are level 30 amp electric sites that are better: D1, D8, B29, B31. - Neil and JoAnn

Stayed here Thursday - Monday in early September in a 40' motorhome. Beautiful spacious park. Our site was level, but not all of them are, so double-check. Would have given the park 5 stars if they had water at the site. We kayaked on Lake Independence and Lake Spurzem. Hiked and biked the extensive trail system. Golfed at nearby county-owned Baker National Park which was in excellent condition. Park was nearly full Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. Practically had it to ourselves Thursday and Sunday afternoon through Monday afternoon. Would definitely return and recommend to others. Fall colors here would be awesome. - HansonMN

The Bathrooms and shower rooms were kept very clean and showers were great...the area to do dishes was a nice addition... the area to park your car in, without being on grass was very small..and gravel pad for trailer uneven. Too bad other campers can be such pigs and leave such a mess..saw where the caretakers had a lot of clean up. - kaths

This is our favorite campground that is close to the cities. We feel that we are far away but close enough to go and visit relatives that live there or they come out and visit us. The park is large and well kept with plenty to do for everyone from young to us old timers. The space we had was large, shaded with trees, close to water and the restrooms, showers and a small cleaning area were close by and all very clean. Yes we recommend this campground to everyone but don't want to see it over booked. - kaths
May 2019 - $26.00
This is our favorite local campground. Our son said, I feel like we're 100 miles from home instead of in the city. There has been an unusual amount of rain this Spring, but the park needs to either lay base grade rock or chips. Rain is not the fault of the campground, but the poor conditions of the sites is their responsibility. This is our last Memorial weekend due wet conditions and the extensive mud issue. We go through 4 pair of shoes plus boots due to puddles and mud. Camper is a mess. The campground needs to fix deep ruts, campsites that slop down with mud, pooling water and move fire pits that are too close to slide outs or bunk ends. Keep up with times to meet the way people camp now, not 30 years ago. It's a great park with much to do swimming, biking, boating, running etc. When it's dry it's great, when it rains you're flooded and bathroom are sandy and really wet. We drove home to shower. Most tents, popups and Hybrids left Sunday night. We'll still camp here 3-4 times per summer. I emailed the main office who said they are looking into improvements and more electric sites. Rated 9 because overall, it's excellent. - brendajoro

What a beautiful park! There are over 8 miles of paved bike trails and numerous hiking, horse riding and other trails. The people were very friendly. On some weekends they have scheduled family events! I can't say enough positive things about this park. You would have to stay there to truly appreciate this park!! - kristine
