Beautiful campground. Helpful staff and hosts. Very busy on weekends with a lot of families, but few campers during the week. Nice family campground. - travelingjim1

This is one of the best campgrounds close to town! The area is well kept and is very relaxing. - Savvy Blazin Camper

When we stayed it was very busy and it was not quiet, very noisy. Lots of people in groups, lots of children running all over the campground yelling and screaming. If not for it being noisy & busy, the campsites and grounds were very nice. - meriflower

What a beautiful park! There are over 8 miles of paved bike trails and numerous hiking, horse riding and other trails. The people were very friendly. On some weekends they have scheduled family events! I can't say enough positive things about this park. You would have to stay there to truly appreciate this park!! - kristine

This is our favorite campground that is close to the cities. We feel that we are far away but close enough to go and visit relatives that live there or they come out and visit us. The park is large and well kept with plenty to do for everyone from young to us old timers. The space we had was large, shaded with trees, close to water and the restrooms, showers and a small cleaning area were close by and all very clean. Yes we recommend this campground to everyone but don't want to see it over booked. - kaths
May 2019 - $26.00
This is our favorite local campground. Our son said, I feel like we're 100 miles from home instead of in the city. There has been an unusual amount of rain this Spring, but the park needs to either lay base grade rock or chips. Rain is not the fault of the campground, but the poor conditions of the sites is their responsibility. This is our last Memorial weekend due wet conditions and the extensive mud issue. We go through 4 pair of shoes plus boots due to puddles and mud. Camper is a mess. The campground needs to fix deep ruts, campsites that slop down with mud, pooling water and move fire pits that are too close to slide outs or bunk ends. Keep up with times to meet the way people camp now, not 30 years ago. It's a great park with much to do swimming, biking, boating, running etc. When it's dry it's great, when it rains you're flooded and bathroom are sandy and really wet. We drove home to shower. Most tents, popups and Hybrids left Sunday night. We'll still camp here 3-4 times per summer. I emailed the main office who said they are looking into improvements and more electric sites. Rated 9 because overall, it's excellent. - brendajoro

First things first. This campground is located in Jordan, MN. Calling it Minneapolis Southwest KOA is misleading. It is not an easy off from the North on 35 West. Driving through the construction in Minneapolis to get to this campground was nerve wracking! It is located in an industrial area and our site, 20B, backed up to a Concrete Plant with trucks coming in and out all day long. Very noisy during the day. It also contained a power pole and numerous junction boxes for the sites - not very desirable. Plus a small playground right outside our door -yikes! Site 20B is a horrible site. Good Points: Nice camp store and staff, unique indoor pool with outdoor patio, and a clean laundry area. 30 amp power and internet worked just fine. Appeared to have seasonal campers in other area of park. They put overnighters near the road and concrete plant. Would look elsewhere next time for a more convenient, quieter overnight stay. - Breezy2
Sep 2019 - $40.00
You know, I think for a city as large as Minneapolis, they would have a better/bigger KOA. This is a Journey KOA, mostly just for overnights. There are some nice sites, but very close together generally or in the mud for more room between. There was something a bit neutral about this place - people seem subdued but nice. We're liking the improvements n KOA lately but I honestly just didn't like this place very much. Sorry to say - twestover
Aug 2019 - $43.00
Very well managed KOA. Great staff, helpful, efficient and friendly. Park is a "Holiday" designation so has lots of amenities, especially for families. Large heated INDOOR pool, mini-golf, bikes, playground and ball courts. Nice bath facilities and large laundry. Location isn't the most interesting. Tucked behind several warehouses in an industrial area, several miles from any towns and 30 miles from Mall of America. Park is older and very tight. Small sites struggled to fit todays larger rigs and accommodate tow vehicles without blocking road lanes. Still they manage. No cable and very heavily treed so no sat reception. Sites are dirt with some grass between, pretty close together. Picnic table and fire rings. Our site had a small concrete patio. Wifi was pretty good. - Todd Hancock

May 2019 - $26.00
This is a large regional park I would give an 8 rating to. I would give a 6 rating to the RV sites, but we only paid $26 per night. The park is in a lovely setting in a deciduous forest. There is a lot of grass under the trees, a lake, and miles of paved walking trails. All the staff were friendly. The outer loop around the campground loops is paved. The campground loops and sites are dirt. They do get muddy when it rains. Sites are comfortably spaced. Four loops do not have hookups. Three loops have 30 amp electric. Two loops have 50/3o electric. The electric sites are electric only. There are no water hookups at any of the sites. There is an RV water fill station shortly after you enter the campground. There are water spigots throughout the campground where you can fill jugs. There is a dump station. There is occasional train noise, but it's not bad. There is road noise from the county road outside the park. You'll notice it, but it didn't bother us. We were too early for lake activities. In season they rent several types of boats and paddle boards. Site D12 was up a hill. The following are level 30 amp electric sites that are better: D1, D8, B29, B31. - Neil and JoAnn
Sep 2018 - $29.00
Stayed here Thursday - Monday in early September in a 40' motorhome. Beautiful spacious park. Our site was level, but not all of them are, so double-check. Would have given the park 5 stars if they had water at the site. We kayaked on Lake Independence and Lake Spurzem. Hiked and biked the extensive trail system. Golfed at nearby county-owned Baker National Park which was in excellent condition. Park was nearly full Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. Practically had it to ourselves Thursday and Sunday afternoon through Monday afternoon. Would definitely return and recommend to others. Fall colors here would be awesome. - HansonMN
Aug 2017 - $26.00
The Bathrooms and shower rooms were kept very clean and showers were great...the area to do dishes was a nice addition... the area to park your car in, without being on grass was very small..and gravel pad for trailer uneven. Too bad other campers can be such pigs and leave such a mess..saw where the caretakers had a lot of clean up. - kaths

Sep 2012 - $34.00
From the pictures and description on the website, we had high hopes for this campground. Upon arrival, we were put in a campsite where the hookups for the water and electric were broken. So we had to move to a different site, after we had already unhooked and setup. The part of the campsite closest to the river resembles a gypsy camp. There are various makeshift tents constructed of tarps and chicken wire. There are loose dogs running around. Broken down cars covered with tarps. The bathrooms and showers are infested with spiders. The stall doors have so much rust on them that the bottoms are falling off. The toilet paper was always empty in a least one of the stalls. In the stalls that did have paper, the toilets were plugged. The pool looked as if it had not been cleaned for a very long time. There were cars racing in and out of the campground at all hours of the day and night. I would not recommend this campground to anyone, let alone campers with small children, as they would not be safe. It's really unfortunate that this campground is not properly maintained, as it could be quite beautiful and it is in a superb location. Needless to say, my family and I will not be staying at Shakopee RV park again. - MNCampingFamily
Aug 2011 - $12.00
Everything was subpar. Starting with being quoted three different rates for camping by an employee, to being told conflicting information as to sites available. Our second day we had to move to a new site due to our campsite being used as a bike ramp and social drinking area. We were told we would have electric, but there was no access from the tent areas. Loose dogs were in and out of our campsite: leaving waste in our site the owner did not attend to. The park seemed to think the only issue was noise of dogs but we had issues with the shower house water temperatures being too hot or lukewarm, the pool was not being heated, the bathroom and shower house doors did not always shut or lock due to rust. We were so dissatisfied we chose another campground to go to. The owner was unpleasant and tried to change our nightly rate to say "we owed him" when his sign on the wall said "two persons/1 tent= $300/month." We stayed a month, were okay with paying for the month but wanted the $300 back for the month we weren't staying. He tried to tell us that you couldn't take apart the payment to get a refund at all for canceling. Then at the mention of a lawyer and the Better Business Bureau, he handed me two hundred and said, "There, a good compromise, look forward to having you back next year." Seriously? There are many other campgrounds in the area. I have found many nicer and more professionally run choices. I will not be staying here again. - gypsysojourner
Jul 2011 - $40.00
When we arrived, the entry area was so full of vehicles, you couldn't pull an RV in there. So we parked the RV at the nearby restaurant. After running the gauntlet of smokers outside the office door, we were told our site wasn't available, but they would give us a different site (with sewer) at no extra charge. A "really nice" site. Not very welcoming or friendly. The road to the site was horribly pot-holed. The roads are very narrow, and one parked RV had his awning out into the road. The site was extremely unlevel and muddy. When we got to the site, we saw why our original one wasn't available; 75% of the sites are flooded! It's on the Minnesota river, and it was apparent that most of the sites had been flooded at one point. There was very little gravel to park on and very little "grass" to walk on. Parking the towed vehicle was a challenge. While we were here it rained even more, and the water got to within 10 or 15 feet of our rig. This reservation was made in April, and no attempt was made to contact us to let us know the situation at the campground, nor was anything said at the time of checkin. Overall, what sites were available were very narrow, very run down looking, very damp due to the heavy tree cover. We would not stay here again. There are other options within the Minneapolis/St Paul area. - cobragt23

This is an absolutely gorgeous RV park right next to the Mystic Lake Casino. It was only $39.73/night and the first RV Park we've been to that had an RV/Car Wash plus fuel pumps on site. They even have a free shuttle that will take you to the casino and come and pick you up. We took advantage of the casino buffet of course LOL. - Merritt Island Mike
Sep 2019 - $45.00
We arrived about 5:15pm and the office was already closed, however a packet with easy directions was taped to the front door. The park is quite large, easy to navigate, fully paved with decent spacing between sites. Shuttle service to the casino was prompt. Easily the nicest campground we've encountered in the Twin Cities area. - John K
Sep 2019 - $45.00
Campground certainly above average. Have been staying here for many years and management has consistently gone downhill. Virtually impossible to get reservations for more than a couple of weekdays at a time anymore. Weekends are all booked for years ahead by local residents. Many sites then sit empty from Sunday thru Thurs so often can get in during those days. They may even make reservations for you for longer but then either have you move sites or leave over the weekend. Campground is operated by Mystic Lake Casino which obviously funds it so not required to make a profit. Casino does not allow any comps for club members like some Casino operated campgrounds do. Overall a nice campground if you can get in. Don't come unless you have confirmed reservations. Might get in without Sunday night thru Thurs night. There are sites occupied by the same people for the entire season year after year and don't know how they get those. - Brady-Minna

3rd time I've stayed here. Mosquitoes are ferocious in June, but that's typical for Minnesota. Previous review is spot on. It's a convenient, clean, quiet, nice place to stay overnight. Watch the speed bumps! - Corno1

This is a Municipal Park located on Buffalo Creek on the south side of town. No Reservations. Motorhomes/Trailers pull into a sand and grass parking area. Sites are not marked, campers pull in and set up. Services are Basic. Dry camping with electricity. Sites are Electric only. One 50 amp service, four 30 amp receptacles. No fresh water fill. Dump station costs $4. Park has a challenging 18 hole Disc Golf Course, swimming pool with water slides, softball diamonds, baseball park, horseshoe pits, basketball courts, wild animal zoo, and bicycle paths. The only amenity that has a fee is the swimming pool. The bicycle path leads out of the park and continues for 6 miles to the town of Plato. This park has many other activities (music in the park, civic festivals, etc.). Park is quiet at night and is frequently patrolled by the local police. Some highway and train noise, but not enough to be objectionable. Lots of room for kids to run. I have stayed at this park the last 5 or 6 years, and have always had a pleasant experience. - J. Park staff was very accommodating. Very clean and well kept place. Sites are close together, but it’s kind of expected being so close to the city with shopping and the baseball stadium just minutes away. Very quiet. Over all my week long stay was very enjoyable. - Culinaray56

Note: This park is no longer affiliated with Good Sam's and no longer comes up in a Good Sam's campground search. No retroactive discounts.)" - je42

Very well kept and nicely landscaped but somewhat cramped suburban campground just just south of Minneapolis. Nice small pool and excellent laundry room. A lot of seasonal campers with many back-ins and several FHU pull thrus for transients. Lots of shopping nearby and Minneapolis is just a few miles away. Roads are paved and sites are gravel with strips of grass in between. - Appleknocker
