We picked up our new Vilano 5th wheel in St. Louis a few days prior and headed out on our three month adventure. Dub Patton was our first stop and although we had made reservations several months prior, we called ahead because we read online that there was road work going on. The Park Ranger was surprised we had reservations because they were currently no longer taking/monitoring reservations. We had no problems with the road in or finding the park.
Originally, we reserved spot 8 but that spot was on a slope and not long enough for the 39' fifth wheel plus our truck, although the website says it can accommodate up to 39'. Since the park was essentially empty, we decided to take spot 14 which was longer and had a great lake view. Many of the spots in this loop have a lake view. We were in the first park loop that was open and the second was closed. When we walked our dogs, we noticed that second loop had electric and water as well but the sites are small probably not taking much more than a 30 foot trailer. As mentioned above, the three night stop was essentially a shake down for the new 5th wheel. We experienced a cracked water heater and our St. Louis dealer got with Town & Country Mobile RV who came to our campsite and replaced the heater. The camp host, rangers, and the mobile RV service were all very friendly and helpful. About 15 minutes away there's a small strip mall with an Outfitters convenience store. Though we did not try it, we were told by a local that they make great pizza. The mall had a sign for a laundromat but it was not open anymore. The town of Hernando about 30 miles away did have a laundromat, Walmart, and the usual midsize city amenities. Also, in the town square there were several dining options and boutiques for the ladies. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Dub Patton Recreation Area COE in a Fifth Wheel.

After a week in noisy New Orleans, this place was the perfect antidote. This waterfront campground was quiet and scenic during the day and very quiet and dark at night. It has spacious paved sites that have 50 amp and water. Had good OTA tv from Memphis and decent cell service. Sewer dump is on the way out and a little tight for big units. They have many non-reservable sites that are first come-first served. I would recommend arriving before night fall as it is well off the beaten path and very dark. We camped at Dub Patton Recreation Area COE in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

This is a quiet place to relax and not real close to any big stores or attractions. Memphis is the closest large city.

This is an Army Corp of Engineers park and quite nice. We found maneuvering with our 30 foot travel trailer pulled by a pickup a bit tight and most of the campsites would have been too short to allow us to park without unhooking but we found one just long enough. We didn't see any official people at all and everything is done on the honour system at a kiosk. It was really quiet and nice. There is a wonderful children's park at the picnic site nearby and some really nice walking trails easily accessible from the campground. There is a also a nice wide ramp to get your boat into the water. We saw many birds and an armadillo and heard coyotes. We also saw a rattlesnake on a trail (it took off as we approached) so be careful with dogs. This place is a bit over mowed and suburban looking for my taste. Also it is obviously visited during the day by city folks from Memphis proper. We felt a need to watch our stuff a bit more closely than we otherwise would during the day due to traffic of day visiting strangers nearby. We camped at Dub Patton Recreation Area COE in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Easy drive into Memphis. It took us about 25 minutes to get to downtown but the interstates in can be very busy during rush hours.

Campground is part of COE Lake Arkabutla in northern Mississippi. It is about twenty-five miles south of Memphis. We stayed 3 nights and used it as a base to visit Memphis. Easy access to I-69 and I-55 and Tunica casinos. 8 miles south of I-69. No internet and very poor cell reception. Lake is beautiful and campground is right next to the lake. Probably would not stay there again unless lake use was the reason. Federal senior pass rate. We camped at Dub Patton Recreation Area COE in a Motorhome.

The park was overall fairly nice. It was only us and two other campers at the time and both others appeared to be longer term. Facilities were pretty clean and everything worked as advertised. The lake water level was really low by the campground, but I think it will fill up later in the season.I walked to the playground and it was really nice. Lake levels by the boat ramp were up and there was a couple of boaters out. Overall it was a good state park. There are very wooded sites however not a lot of level ground around the site, as the RV pads seemed built up. We were mainly here to shake out the new RV. We camped at Dub Patton Recreation Area COE in a Travel Trailer.

We usual stay at Hernando Point when in the area, but it was being renovated so went across the lake to this park and what a great surprise it was. The Corps is even building another campground across the dam. Will come back here again. We camped at Dub Patton Recreation Area COE in a Fifth Wheel.
