Very nice park. Check-in staff friendly. We moved from our original reservation (#44) because it had a "drop-off" just outside the front door. Stayed in site #28 which had a good view of the lake, was shaded and very spacious. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I would have liked to have WIFI and/or cable. TV reception for local channels was good, though. We stayed four nights. We felt very safe with frequent drive thrus by the park rangers. Weekdays had few people but booked up on weekend. We plan to go back soon. We camped at Paul B. Johnson State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Park was nice with large, level sites. Camping in a Class B, and have accessibility issues. The accessible features were poorly maintained with shower head in need of repair and no dry changing area or place to keep clothes dry while showering. Door to shower got stuck and had to just wait until someone came by to get out! The accessible shower was a disgrace. We camped at Paul B. Johnson State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed here for an overnight on our way to the Gulf Coast. The park seemed a bit "tired", but it was definitely the off-season (there were maybe 10 or 15 rigs in the entire park) and maintenance staff would be at a minimum. Not to say that the park was not taken care of, but there were just small things like quite a few leaves on the sidewalk in front of the office, some fallen branches (small) in the roads and on sites. Another poster here had suggested taking Tower Road into the park so that is what we did. While it is narrow, It was easy enough to stay on my side of the center stripe without running off the road except for 2 curves and it was easy to see if there would be oncoming traffic. Took the towed and went to check out the spillway on Lake Road. Plenty of evidence of rigs bottoming out at the East end of the spillway. If you have a long overhang or low hitch (we do) take Tower Road entrance instead. The hookups were fine. Power was steady, water pressure was good. Someone previously had cross threaded the sewer connection, but was able to get the slinky hooked up anyway. Told the office about it and they said it would be taken care of. If you are into hiking and fishing it seems like a really nice state park. They have frisbee golf, a splash pad, swimming and boating on the lake and some nice picnic areas. The pull through sites are a combination of concrete where the motorhome sits and asphalt where the towed is parked. They vary in length but the length is listed on the reservation site. There is about 6 - 8 feet between sites so very close to your neighbor. We camped at Paul B. Johnson State Park in a Motorhome.

Beautiful state park on a large lake. We had a pull-thru site for an overnight stay. Plenty of room. Across the street from the lake. Utilities well located and worked as expected. The day we arrived the main road to the campground was flooded, but the marked detour was easily navigated with no issues. The exit was marked as well with easy access back to the nearby US Highway. Quiet. We would recommend a longer stay if time is available. Winter rates are available for longer term stays. We camped at Paul B. Johnson State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Very nice state park. Locating the office was a little tricky, but we figured out where it was. If you enter from the south entrance, you go across a spillway, which was different but no big deal. Parking our 5th wheel during check in was also tricky, there is a parking lot in front of the office. If it has a bunch of vehicles parked there, just park on the road during check in. Was offered a pull through or back in. We were just waiting out the hurricane Michael on our way to the gulf coast so we choose a pull through, which were close together but cheaper. Pull throughs were concrete and long enough I didnt have to disconnect. Full hook ups but no cable or wifi. Did have full cell phone signal. I would stay here again. We camped at Paul B. Johnson State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a beautiful location on the shore of Lake Geimer. Many of the sites are right on the shoreline. The sites are narrow, leaving little room to sit outside. Many of the sites are closely spaced, especially the pull-through sites. There is nowhere to park an RV while checking in except on the road. The road leading into the park is very narrow. Even though it is two-lane, it is not wide enough for RVs to meet without one of them pulling off the road. There is a fair amount of highway noise. You also have to cross a dam that is under water on the road way. It was a little disconcerting but ok. We camped at Paul B. Johnson State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Had a nice view of the lake. We just stayed one night on our way through to FL. Served our purpose fine. Overall impression was that the campground has been used hard, is old, and a little rough. No major complaints. Felt safe. Would do an overnight while on the road there again but would not be a camping destination for us. We camped at Paul B. Johnson State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Beautiful weekend at this park. Weather a bit uncooperative and caused power outage to park and nearby town but park rangers came by every campsite to let us know status and we got power back sooner than the 45 minute time frame they'd predicted. Park was clean but bathrooms are dated and non air-conditioned. Because of this the odor in the Bathroom is he reason I only gave 4 stars for cleanliness. Check in process very quick. Nice welcome center. We camped at Paul B. Johnson State Park in a Motorhome.

Nice park on a relatively quiet little lake just off US 49. We stayed at site 17 which is close to the beach. Recommend not getting site 16 as it is right next to a small bridge that takes you to a small island in the lake and has a fair amount of foot traffic. Our site had plenty of room around the camper as well as to the side. Patio was gravel, rest of the site was asphalt. Main office closes at five. A fair amount of hills once you get into the campground and not a lot of hiking trails but if you have a boat the lake seems really nice. Only downside were the gnats or mosquito type flies that covered our camper in the morning so make sure you "fog" the area if you like to sit out in the morning with your cup of coffee. I think that there was a fire ring off to the side but it was not well established, just a few rocks in what looked like a circle. We would camp here again. We camped at Paul B. Johnson State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed on site 44. It's a tiny site.... virtually no outside living. The site is bordered by a drainage ditch which is the popular crossing by the campground kids to a field to play on the other side. The campground is cramped. There's barely enough parking for the tow vehicle much less a second car. The website says there's a maximum vehicle length for our site of 65 ft. Our camper is 42 ft and it barely fit the space. Check in was a pain because the guard shack was unmanned and we had to drive to the main office which wasn't easy towing a fifth wheel. The sites were littered with cigarette butts and busted glass. We won't be back. We camped at Paul B. Johnson State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful grassy treed setting on Geiger Lake. Roads and sites are paved with concrete patios for concrete and wood picnic tables. The campground needs some maintenance as many picnic tables are broken, showers and toilets are decrepit and the grounds have a lot of torn up muddy areas. Even with these drawbacks we enjoyed staying here and would return. We camped at Paul B. Johnson State Park in a Motorhome.

Splash pad, which we really looked forward to is NOT free - costs $6/per person. We swam in the lake instead. Showers, while clean, didn't seem to turn off, leaving floors all wet and slippery. (this was in both men's and women's restroom near the lake in loop #1). The ants and sugar bees were pretty bad - kitchen Comet works wonders, just sprinkle around the ground. We keep a container in our camper at all times.

There's a spillway you must drive through to get to the campground. A little scary. It would be nice to have a notice for first time visitors.
prestip • April 2016 -
Enter by way of South Lake Road off of U.S. 49. It connects to Geiger Lake Road that is a straight shot into the park. Some GPS units don't show this connection and take you in by way of Tower Road ( a few miles north on US 49). That's a narrow curvy road and takes you in the back entrance to the park. Ignore the GPS and go on to South Lake Road.
