8 RV Parks near Canton, Missouri
Sep 2018 - $20.00
We loved staying at this campground. Fascinating to watch the barges coming through the locks and even enjoyed the trains that some reviewers disliked. We would definitely stay here again if in this area. - Bob-n-Gail
May 2018 - $20.00
There are no bathrooms but the site is right on the Mississippi river next to the Lock and Dam. We are to see several large barges go through the lock. The only odd thing was the many people drove by the campsites. Maybe they were checking on river level. It was very nearly flooding the campground road. There is a railroad track next to the road but only 2 trains went through I really liked the location and sites. The city has workers there both days cleaning up. It was spotless. - Bear1211
Oct 2017 - $20.00
No, no, not again. Just a dirt strip sandwiched between the Miss. river and the train tracks. That's the only good thing, the river. Watching the river boats and visiting the lock and dam are interesting. The train tracks are 50 yards from your site and they will rumble you out of your bed, sounds like they're coming thru your home. Dirt sites, not clean, no trees and the local hicks have nothing to do but constantly cruise the loop and stare in your windows. - yosemitesam
Jul 2015 - $25.00
This is a small lot of 8 spaces located about a city block from the casino. They are full hook ups. The spaces are concrete, most are broken up a bit, but they are quite level. It is on the bypass highway, across from some railroad tracks. However, there is a nice view of the Mississippi river, you can watch barges moving up and down. Water pressure was good, electric steady. This park is great for a night or two to play at the casino, not a destination in itself however. If you join their players club and play before you park, you can get comp'd, however we decided to just pay the $25. The electric and water boxes at the sites are kept locked, you must leave a $20 deposit for the key which is returned when you turn in the key. The customer service at this casino was excellent! Staff was friendly on all levels. The restaurant had good food, served well and is priced easy on the wallet. Play was generous enough and they have a lot of newer machines to chose from. We would stay here again when visiting the casino. - Fixn2gocamp
Feb 2019 - $21.00
This is our second time staying at this park off season. We had the entire campground to ourselves. There are two campgrounds. We stayed one night in #53 in the campground to the left. The campground roads are fairly easy to navigate. Most of the sites are back-in. Ours was a pull-through right next to the lake and showers. This is our go-to spot when traveling from MN to St. Louis! - Gma Linda
Sep 2018 - $28.00
This park offers a lot. We stayed in the Wakonda campground with full hook ups. The site offered a level pad, a fire pit and a grill to cook on. While there wasn't much shade at our site, the stars at night were amazing. The park offers different lakes to kayak, fish, and a beach to swim in. There are also trails to hike and bike on as well. There is Kayak rental through the park office. Make sure you have your groceries stocked. The nearest town is Canton, which is 15 miles away from Wakonda state park. - Tinymite1
Feb 2018 - $21.00
We stayed here in February. No water, but all we needed was electricity. We stay one night. We pulled in after dark so it was hard to see where the pull-throughs were at. The on-line map wasn't clear as to which campsites were pull-through versus back-in. The smaller campground of 8 sites has no pull-throughs. We ended up in site #53 (I think) in the Boulder Campground. It was a long pull-thru near the shower building. The roads in Boulder Campground were a bit tight to navigate with our motorhome..watch tow!!! We would stay again when coming thru this way. There is no state park fee which was nice! - Gma Linda
Sep 2017 - $27.00
very quiet and clean. host lives on site. he was very helpful. the pool was not open but looked nice. nice playground. spacious, concrete, level sites. No cable but can get a good bit with an antenna. wifi was better outside the camper. - MamaBird
Sep 2017 - $30.00
Very clean, concrete pads and patios at site, very level. Owner very friendly and helpful. Lots of big open spaces for kids to run or walking dogs. Quiet... heard a train far away a couple of times but didn't bother me. Huge park across the street. Seasonal (or full-time) campers sites were clean and organized, not an eyesore like a lot of places. Definitely staying here again. Wifi extremely slow but owner acknowledged this at registration. - DogFriendlyGuy
Jun 2017 - $30.00
This out of the way campground is well used and busy. The sites are easy to get in and out of but they are close to each other. All back-ins. Some permanent residents. No noise. Lots of lights. Trash and office not convenient to campers - you have to hike up a good steep hill. Staff friendly and helpful as were our neighbors. Was told that the wifi was weak and at our site would be non existent. He was right. Not a convenient overnighter for travelers but is a good campground for activities in the area. It's an old campground and the site we had was broken concrete strips that we were supposed to stay on. - rkay20
Oct 2011 - $15.00
A bit out of the ordinary place. It's a city park and you have to go up to city hall to pay. They had 1 porta johnny ( that we didn't use) and no showers. The dump station is up the hill behind the water department. The hook ups are 50 amp or 20 amp be sure and check the voltage before you plug into the 50 amp. The sign down there says it's 220 but I was reading just over 120v on my meter. This a a pretty quiet park but you can hear the trains going by on the other side of the river. Folks in town that I talked to and visited with were very friendly and had lots of time to talk. Over in The down side of that one is that it's right next to the rail yard. We planned on staying 1 or 2 night but have been here for 5 nights so far due to mechanical issues with the toad. All in all a pleasant park that has Verizon MiFi that works. We had the upper sites pretty much to ourselves in late October. - pumper9x9
Jun 2011 - $15.00
Great view of the Mississippi River. Sites from 12-20 are located a bit farther south and are on higher ground (important because the lower numbered sites are especially likely to flood). Water is shared by 2-3 sites. Concrete pads are short, but the large well packed gravel area by the upper sites can accommodate big rigs. Portable restrooms only (we didn't use them). Electric is ONLY 50 amp or 20 amp (no 30 amp, so rigs needing 30 would require a 50 to 30 adapter). Pay at City Hall in town (as advised on sign at park). Dump located behind 218 Main St. is easily accessible. This is a small, friendly town. No reservations, but you may want to call the phone number, which is for the town hall, to ask about flooding. The "book now" link on the city's webpage should not be used (http://www.rubbertree.com.au/warsaw/lodging.htm). Advised that reservations for camping are no longer made through this site. - Ken and Lee
Aug 2009 - $15.00
Wonderful park if you want quiet and be right on the river. Dump available in the small town. Boat ramp available. Great site to watch barges up and down the river, beautiful sunsets and lots of geese. We stayed here in 42' Class A. Friendly town and very historic, too. Park is growing and improving - horse shoes going on now. - lindalu
Aug 2017 - $16.00
Basic water/electric parking lot campground. Three campground locations one north of Southside Boat Club (3 sites), two east(8 or 10 sites) and a somewhat woodsy area, (3 sites). Do not follow GPS that takes you to City Hall.
If coming from south, take first street on left (2nd or 1st Ave ) immediately past the bridge which traversesthe Mississippi River. Proceed a few blocks to Banks Street, turn left, go over railroad tracks, turn right.
If coming from the north turn right just before the bridge and follow the same directions. Check out which site you want. Pay at the bar in the Southside Boat Club. There are no reservations. The number at Southside is 319-524-7122. They were helpful with directions and basic availability questions.
This park is located directly on the river. Watching barges is interesting. A lot more tending by the city for cleanliness and upkeep would certainly improve ratings. Several workers had trailers in the middle park and were loud at 2 am returning from their shift. However, with all the railroad tracks across the street, that noise was minimal. I did not feel safe to walk my dog after dark, but no one bothered us except one loud mouth "barking" near us at 2 am. The park provided the over night stay we needed.
The signs at each campground only indicate charges: $16 regular, $14 seniors. No other information given. Electrical hookup box had several spider egg sacs. We had a 30 amp, 34' motorhome. Parallel parked in the middle campground immediately to right of the Southside Boat Club. - Proud Rome Georgian
Oct 2011 - $16.00
We did not stay at this site, however we drove through and checked it out. It is right along the Mississippi just down the street from the stern wheel paddle boat. Some sites are gravel, some dirt, and some concrete. They have 20,30, and 50 amp hook ups, water that is shared between several sites and no sewer hook ups and I'm not sure where a dump station is. The site sits between the river and a RxR switching yard that can be pretty loud. There's a boat ramp here too. I only added this site because it wasn't mentioned in the reviews of the area at all and to give another option if you're in the area. Contact the City of Keokuk, Iowa for more details. - pumper9x9
Oct 2018 - $27.00
The park owner was very helpful. Guided us back in to our site, blew all the leaves out of the site, even took my garbage up to the dumpster. Camp site was fairly level and had some nice trees. The site had a picnic table and a fire pit. We had full hookups. No complaints for $27! - Greyhawk31
Jul 2018 - $1.00
The park is nice--has trees and character. The people who run it are helpful if asked. Their WiFi is awful and not park-wide. I couldn't use my cell phone at all. The roads are narrow. Dirt road to get into the park. - Bet
Jul 2018 - $26.00
Spaces are extra long, quiet park, nice tall trees, country setting... no cable and wi-if was not strong, you have to be close to the office to get good service. - 69 scotty
