This is our second time staying at this park off season. We had the entire campground to ourselves. There are two campgrounds. We stayed one night in #53 in the campground to the left. The campground roads are fairly easy to navigate. Most of the sites are back-in. Ours was a pull-through right next to the lake and showers. This is our go-to spot when traveling from MN to St. Louis! We camped at Wakonda State Park in a Motorhome.

This park offers a lot. We stayed in the Wakonda campground with full hook ups. The site offered a level pad, a fire pit and a grill to cook on. While there wasn't much shade at our site, the stars at night were amazing. The park offers different lakes to kayak, fish, and a beach to swim in. There are also trails to hike and bike on as well. There is Kayak rental through the park office. Make sure you have your groceries stocked. The nearest town is Canton, which is 15 miles away from Wakonda state park. We camped at Wakonda State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here in February. No water, but all we needed was electricity. We stay one night. We pulled in after dark so it was hard to see where the pull-throughs were at. The on-line map wasn't clear as to which campsites were pull-through versus back-in. The smaller campground of 8 sites has no pull-throughs. We ended up in site #53 (I think) in the Boulder Campground. It was a long pull-thru near the shower building. The roads in Boulder Campground were a bit tight to navigate with our motorhome..watch tow!!! We would stay again when coming thru this way. There is no state park fee which was nice! We camped at Wakonda State Park in a Motorhome.

Pleasant park, conveniently located if you're visiting NE Missouri and Hannibal. Plenty of open spaces when we visited in May. There are two campground loops. Sites 100-108 are in an oval loop on a small peninsula. Trees around the outside and open grass in the middle. The other loop is much larger -- a relatively open area with enough trees for shade. Gravel pads and asphalt roads with gravel pads, which were slightly uneven and slightly unlevel. Bathrooms and bathrooms were old and worn, but clean. Simple cement floors and basic shower heads. We camped at Wakonda State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Stayed at the Wakonda lake CG which is a wide ovoid loop by a lake with a paved road and gravel site but with a large concrete pad. Electric, water and sewer. Small bathhouse that I didn't go in. Few large trees. Sites well separated. Nearby sand/gravel operation with minimal noise. The park formally was a large government sand and gravel quarry that was repurposed as a park and is well wooded with multiple lakes, boat put ins, kayaks, playground. The other larger Boulder Lake CG we drove through and is well treed, but the sites were small and short and mostly very unlevel; certainly not motorhome friendly. The CGs just cover a small area of the Wakonda State Park which is very wooded with marsh, sand prairies and trails. Good job Missouri. We camped at Wakonda State Park in a Motorhome.

Was ok but the host was less than friendly and borderline rude. The swimming area is nice for a lake and it has a large sand beach. I doubt we return, mainly because of the host. We camped at Wakonda State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice state park with easy access off of highway 61. There are two sections for RVs. One with water and electric only (largest campground) and one with 8 sites with full hookups. Long gravel pads and huge concrete patios. Tons of room between sites. You can reserve through the MO state park system, and there are no state park fees. We camped at Wakonda State Park in a Motorhome.

Lots of open spots for us that night. We had the entire park practically by ourselves on a Monday night. We stayed here instead of the Mark Twain Cave Camping, Injun Joe camping or other sites in Monroe City or Hannibal - it is less expensive and had available spots. Helpful staff. Downside: old shower and bathroom facilities. There was barf in one of the men's shower stalls and the other didn't latch closed. Gross. Thank goodness we have a small shower in the RV the boys used. Women's shower and restrooms were old but usable. Tree frogs on the shower wall! Awesome / kinda gross. Park was wet from a heavy rain that morning and the woods were still flooded - it is 1/4 mi from the Mississippi River. That meant tons of mosquitoes. It was decent for a quick overnight stay, but we won't use it again. We camped at Wakonda State Park in a Motorhome.

Nice state park. We stayed at Boulder Lake a 20 acre fishing lake. Tents, trailers, RVs, popups, and even a family in a horse trailer-no horses.

Stayed on a Friday night and had to pay for two days as the reservation system would not allow for a one night stay on the weekend. We called and tried to get one night but, not able even on the phone. Also had to pay a $8 reservation fee. It was like a local family park lots of kids and attentive parents. Very happy place. Fishing, bicycles, skooters and kids doing kid things on the playground with thier parents. After dark very quiet and the next morning all was quiet until way after daylight. I would go back. The rest room and shower facility shows it's age but really clean. Stayed on a handicap site, level, flat and, close to the water spigot. All other sites were gravel and not to level-bring big blocks. Most of the locals had 6x6 blocking and more. It is lakeside and everybody seemed prepared for a bit of a grade. We camped at Wakonda State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Campground host was courteous and friendly. Saw the Game Warden and Park Rangers cruising multiple times. The county sheriff was parked at the ranger station when I left. They lock the gates at night. You must call ahead if you are going to be late for check-in. This is a lakeside campsite bring lots of insect protection! Don't use the vault toilet at the playground.

Wakonda State Park is located in Northeast MO next to U.S. Hwy 61 offering easy off, easy on access. The park has two campgrounds, Boulder Lake campground and Wakonda Lake campground and all sites have a fire ring and picnic table. The campsites on Boulder Lake are heavily treed, close together, electric only, and many require some leveling front to back. The Wakonda Lake campground has been upgraded to 9 full hookup campsites offering 50 amp service. The campsites are spacious and all 9 sites back up to the lake and have easy access to the lake. Both campgrounds have a clean shower house and a playground for children. The rate we paid was for a full hookup site. Electric only sites are $23 per night and basic sites are $13 per night. We camped at Wakonda State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is one of the best in the Missouri system. Excellent bathroom/showers, both men and women. Friendly staff, nice parking spots, scenic views of lake and plenty of wildlife. Quiet and peaceful visit; will return again. We camped at Wakonda State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here over July 4th. They had storms the week before, so there were lots of downed trees, and parts of the park were closed, including the beach. Very clean shower/baths. Most of the sites were nice. Too bad they had the storm damage. Not much in nearby La Grange, but Quincy, IL, is not far away. We stayed on site #11. Overall Rating:

Asthetically pleasing campground positioned in an area with six small lakes. Good paved access to shade tree, graveled sites. Amenities include playgrounds, swim beach, boat ramp, and small laundry. Bath house was well maintained, but the toilets and showers are separated in the building. Handicap sites aren't near them. There are four full hookup sites which are in a separate loop. Everything else is electric only. Community water faucets located through-out for filling holding tanks. Most sites have some degree of front to back sloping, but it's not excessive. This campground is just far enough off the main highway to be convenient to get to, but not have road noise. With numerous pull-throughs, it's good for an overnighter as well as extended stay. Price reflects electric only. FHU is $3 more. We camped at Wakonda State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Well-kept state park. We arrived shortly after a major thunderstorm and the ranger was driving around picking up fallen branches. Camp hosts are very competent and friendly. We picked a site with lots of trees and shade and not close to neighbors (65) and were glad we weren't in the main loop--very close quarters there. Showerhouse is at one end of the CG--check the map if proximity is important to you. We were a bit of a walk away, but that's OK. Because of the rains, park was pretty buggy. Forewarned is forearmed. Fee of $19 reflects electric site, in high season, but you have to also add on the irksome $8.50 "reservation fee." We camped at Wakonda State Park in a Motorhome.
