This park used to be a state park that has been taken over by the county. The only amenities you get are electricity and peace and quiet. For us, that is the attraction of this park. You can't beat it for a relaxing weekend getaway. There are hiking trails down to the Chariton River and a huge stone shelter house with the largest fireplace I've ever seen. Fire wood is available at the entrance also. There is a nature center and some deer fenced in for kids to admire. Location is 2.8 miles east on Hwy. 2 from the intersection of Hwy. 5 in Centerville. Turn south on 248th Ave. (gravel) for 3/4 mile, then east on 250th Ave. for 1/2 mile. All sites are gravel as are the interior roads, but there are tables for each site and plenty of trash cans around. We found the sites to require some leveling of the trailer but not too bad. This park is best for units under 40 ft. At least 2 sites are pull through. There are pit toilets and no showers, but there is water and a dump station at the entrance. - bipeflier

The park was perfect for us. We stayed 7 months to be near my Father, age 94, who is living alone nearby. The private lake was well stocked with fish. We swam and fished often. We could have campfires (wood and ring provided). Our dish worked fine. We used our own wi-fi. You could also receive mail. Our Yorkies had a blast chasing squirrels. The owner was very helpful. The only drawback was during hunting season. We would stay there again. - Lilly Bean
Jun 2009 - $20.00
The park has narrow dirt/gravel roads with concrete pads on some sites. We found it a bit challenging for a big rig, but doable. There were some low branches and the roads were soft with ruts due to recent heavy rains. There are lake views and a nice lake within walking distance as well as a petting zoo. Satellite reception could be a problem with the abundance of mature trees, but we got a signal off our dome and good reception on our Verizon Internet connection but did not try the WiFi. We would stay again if in the area. - BigRigTravelerUSA

Stayed here to attend a bluegrass show nearby. Full hookups work well. Steady, strong voltage even with several ac's working full time. Showers/restrooms are adequate and reasonably clean. Grass was mown. Not lots of shade in most sites. Never saw the "host". Will stay here again next year for the show. - bipeflier
Sep 2011 - $11.00
The rate for 50 amp service is $24 and 30 amp. service is $22 for full hookup site. This is a Passport America park so my one night stay was $22. They also discount for Good Sam and Escapees Club. The park still has the slot for your fee and although the hosts camper "office" is on site we never saw anyone. The park is clean but old and the concrete pads have cracked. The entrance to the campground is the side street but coming from the north we missed it because the "Entrance" sign is set back from the road a bit. It was worth turning around for though. We use a Verizon data card and have a good connection for Wi-Fi. Some trees but mostly open and good for satellite tv reception. Overall a nice place to stop for the night. - Phantom Camper
Sep 2009 - $22.00
This park is OK for a one night stop. Gravel pads are long enough for a big rig, but narrow. The park has a steep entrance off the highway, but an easier drive is on the side street. There is no office. Upon arrival, you complete an envelope and place payment into a slotted container. We had some difficulty with some deep, loose gravel and nearly got stuck when trying to find a level spot within the space. The bathhouse is old and was not very clean. We didn't use the laundry facility. We tried to use our air card for internet access and had little luck. TV reception with an antenna was also very spotty. We would stay here again for an overnight stop. - retread
Jul 2016 - $10.00
Picnic tables were in need of repair and/or replacement.
Park appeared well maintained.
Rules were not enforced by park attendants. Basic rules of park like no parking cars on grass areas of camping site, more than allowed number of tents, etc., on a single campsite were not followed. Patrols by ranger, law enforcement & attendant did not address these issues. - Iowa Native
