We did wind up getting a free night after staying for 6, as we wound up staying here a week because of motorhome issues. Would never have chosen this as a week's destination; initially thought we were only staying 2 nights to visit the area and it was quite convenient to shopping considering we had to be here for so long. Did not tour the whole campground but I think there were several/many long term folks as I saw monthly bills on the desk in the office. It's only saving grace was that we had 50 amp service and full hookups while getting our motorhome issues managed. The lady in the office (when she was there) was quite friendly and helpful as we needed some major cleaning done inside our rig. She claims new owners have taken over and improvements will be made this Fall. Private shower stalls looked quite nice although we did not use them. Laundry facilities were filthy and ancient. Went to a laundromat up the road instead. Sites are very close together - we couldn't open awnings or use a picnic table which was falling apart anyway. Landscaping was non-existent. I would never come back here. - RVtravelers2

We drove through this RV park to see an option to another local park. We would not stay here. It is really a trailer park with residents stacking whatever items they want around their site. Evidently, they don't own a lawnmower. Park is considerable disrepair. Better to stay in the Walmart parking lot! - 2SimsNanRV

Not many choices in Helena. Was OK for a one-nighter. Make sure you stay up front by the office. The back part is for long term folks. Most expensive rundown park we have ever stayed in. I don't believe they have spent a hundred dollars on improvements in the last five years. If necessary we would stay here again. Never did meet the office person. - whit gentry

Prior review still applies, but to reiterate a few points: Make sure you fill up your water in the parking lot where you register. If you have a large vehicle, you may want to shop around for the best site before committing to one. We had an end one with a good drop to into; it was pretty level once in. Fire pits, picnic tables and trash barrel at each site. When we pulled in, we were disappointed with the depressing landscape of mostly dirt and some weeds, but there was hardly anyone else around, the view was amazing, and it was very quiet except for the occasional train. Within minutes though, we were loving it. Locals walk their dogs (almost all off-leash) here resulting in more much more activity than just the campers. Excellent location for seeing the Helena sights. Loved being able to do a loop around the fairgrounds with our dogs. If you've got kids, there is a pond where children-only can fish and a great huge playground. If full, then I can imagine it feeling much more cramped. - MichelleKry
Jul 2015 - $20.00
The review of this campground is slightly distorted since we were the only campers in the park.
The campground is way in the back of the fairgrounds and a little difficult to find. Basically follow the racetrack but you will need to register at the front office first. They will turn on the electricity.
Some of the interior roads within the fairground have pot holes but the interior road within the campground is OK. All of the sites are back-ins on packed gravel. The length of the sites varies as does the electrical service. Some are 20/30 while a few are 20/30/50 amp service. The utility box was situated on the appropriate side. Half of the sites are angled on the blind side. The front office has a map indicating the length of each site and their amperage. Some sites are more leveled then others.
There is water available within the fairgrounds but not at the campground. There is no dump station within the fairgrounds. A dump station is available at the Exxon station (I-15, Exit 194).
There are two pit toilets within the campground. Each site has a fire pit and a picnic table. There are no showers and no Wi-Fi. Verizon air card and cell phone worked well within the campground. There was some rail road noise at night.
The freeway was about 2 miles away and about 3 miles from town. We would come back to this campground if we were in the area. We were in a 32 foot rig. - adsaxs

Wonderfully peaceful - on a Monday. This campground was very quiet on the Monday we were there, silent at night. Lovely overlook of the river from several sites. Sites are very widely spaced, gravel, with picnic tables and fire pits. Unfortunately they have lost a lot of trees in the past couple years, so there is not much shade. The pit toilets were pristine, but there were no campers in that part of the park. There is potable water and a hose to fill water tanks! A walking path goes over to the day use area. I understand that on Wednesday thru Saturday, this is not such a peaceful place as it fills up with families, boaters, fisher people, jet skiers, etc... Some of the sites are reservable. - ALbums
Jun 2012 - $5.00
We would still be here, but our fridge decided not to run well on propane and we needed to plug into electric. This is a very nicely maintained BLM campground. Wide sites that will allow 2 units (side by side) in some and ample room for other vehicles. The camp Hosts are lovely people who make sure that campers turn off their generators at 10 PM and are visible every day keeping things neat. Boat ramps, fish cleaning stations, bike and walking trails are all here. Close to Helena for trips to Walmart, Costco, etc. This is a great place to stop on your way from Glacier to Yellowstone. We will surely return. Come on a Monday or Tuesday to get a spot. This campground begins to fill on Wednesday, and by the weekend it is full. - dqcarol
Aug 2011 - $10.00
This is a wonderful spacious BLM campground located on Lake Hauser (a reservoir) on the Missouri River about 15 miles NE of Helena. Almost all the RV sites have incredible views of the lake and are gravel, very large, level, and each features a fire ring and a large picnic table. The BLM allows up to two RV's and two additional vehicles per site (yes... they're that big) for only $10 per night (as of August 2011). All sites are dry camping only with no hookups. Potable water spigots and clean pit toilets are located throughout the campground. There is no dump station in the campground, but one is located a few miles south of the campground on York Road at the Lakeside General Store. The campground has a boat dock, boat slips, a small swimming beach, paved and dirt bike trails. When we stayed here the seasonal campground hosts were extremely friendly and helpful. - Gyropilot

Good park. Dead quiet. And, if you like astronomy, darn dark. Roads and pads are gravel. Each site has a grass divider with a concrete pad for a picnic table. Easy pull thrus with solid hookups. WiFi was so so but T Mobile was full bars. We stayed several nights to explore Helena and local fishing. Awesome downtown area. Plenty of lake and river fishing options. We will be back. - whizbang
Sep 2018 - $45.00
Very nice commercial park handy to Interstate 15 but far enough away so there is no road noise. Very friendly greeting with helpful information about places to eat and things to see. Level, long, pull through site with handy utilities. Sewer connection is at the back of the site so a long hose may be necessary. Site was just a little narrow. Looked like several permanents but all were kept clean and neat. No cable, but 22 over the air stations and clear view for satellite. Verizon signal was strong. Little grocery with a deli just down the road and several places to eat nearby. We would gladly stay again and for a longer time. - starwind
Aug 2018 - $45.00
Stayed here a week while exploring area. Located about 10-15 minutes north of downtown, easy access from I-15. Nice friendly staff that took time to point out area attractions on map they provided. Gravel roads and sites, easy maneuverability, and level sites. Nice grass and concrete patio area, with adequate spacing between units, and while there are small trees between most sites, there is essentially no shade. There are handful of seasonals, all along one row. Nice bathroom/shower and laundry facility, everything well maintained, however, there is no provision for privacy in the shower area, as both men's and women's side have an open, common changing area. WiFi was awful, and staff knew it and joked about it, recommending the little coffee/pizza place nearby... although we did not think it that funny. Verizon signal very good though. - We Roamed and Rambled

Although the sites were terribly close together, and they installed 50 amp in the small sites and 30 amp in the larger sites, and there is an island built up with curbs in between each site that houses the sewer hookup (making the sewer hookup higher than the RV's connection) I have to say the park is comfortable. The park host is immaculate in his upkeep. As soon as an RV pulls out, he checks the site for any grass or weeds that might have come up through the gravel then he rakes the island and the gravel the where the RV parks. There is no trash, no junk, nothing unsightly at all. There is no wifi. The utilities are fine (power went out once and they had to change out the big 200 amp breaker, but they took care of it within a few hours). A word about the utilities: The park was originally set up to park social side to social side making the utilities on wrong sides, etc. However, when you go there to park, the host has you park in a normal fashion so you have to run electric under your rig (or other utilities). Even though there are quite a few negatives, the park host does an outstanding job keeping it neat, clean and comfortable. We would go back. - jomark

Lady we called for reservations was excellent. Site was level gravel, utilities all worked fine. Key from office needed to unlock electric. Be sure to get exact directions for entering base. - hug448844
Jul 2014 - $21.00
We reserved only one night due to the negative reviews, but after being here, we regret that we didn't stay longer. All the sites have been completely redone. I could tell by the new concrete and the new trees. The sewer and the electric are on the same side. The sites are gravel and they are still not level, but it still was not that bad. The weather was cool and no mosquitoes. No WiFi, but our Verizon hotspot was super fast! Very peaceful with an occasional sound of the trains going by, but not that bad. The fitness is within walking distance. We heard about an issue with a volunteer saying that folks cannot leave pets in their RVs unattended. The front desk told us that's not true and if the volunteer has any problems, tell him to take it up with them. - BigRigFulltimer

We were the only campers on the lower level of the campground for two nights. It's a nice spot, but we moved the trailer across the road for the second night because the wind is intense there in the spring. The sites on the side of the road away from the reservoir, and up against the hillside, are less windy. That made sleeping easier. The basic pit toilets were clean and well-maintained. - User2873
Sep 2014 - $8.00
Price is half of the full price per night with an Intra-Agency NP pass. Other discounts available. Rated a 10 based on accuracy of services. Very clean, very wide sites. Fire pits at every site and lake front views almost everywhere. Beach is clean and available in season for swimming. Fishing seems to be the big draw! Boat ramp right at the campground. No utilities, WiFi, cell coverage or TV reception. Bring your generator but only use between 7am-10pm. - Craig H
Jun 2014 - $8.00
Rate reflects senior NP pass. Wonderful BLM site with paved roads, level sites and good location. However, last 2 miles of the road to get here is dirt, but it's the Best dirt road I've ever seen! New residential property along the way and I bet it's all paved soon. Stayed here 3 nights. Very easy drive to Helena with good grocery and fuel. No phone service or TV at campsite. Sites are easy back-in with good space. - SailorGolf

This is one of the nicest, no hookup places that I have ever stayed at. It is located next to a dam on the Missouri river. Our site was next to the river. I would recommend it to anyone.
The road to the campground was a little difficult and required crossing on top of the dam. - mpruet
Sep 2015 - $15.00
This is the nicest campground with no services we have ever stayed at. It was immaculately clean, on the water, and there is a huge dam within sight. There is water throughout the campground , stone picnic tables and really nice fire rings all for $15 a night. Crazy!! We loved it and would highly recommend it to anyone passing through the area, but I will warn you the drive to get to it is a little steep and curvy. There is water in the campground in a few places, and the only major drawback is no dump. They really should put one in. I don't know what the noise is like when the dam is running, but since I like waterfall noise I think that would have been a plus for me. - Lee and Trace

Our site was right on the water and we enjoyed great views of the river. The sites are very close together and it is a very busy park. Although it's a bit remote, it felt like we were in a city park. Site was not level on one side so I had to park even closer to the adjacent camper. It's a bit disappointing to be in such a beautiful setting yet happy that we didn't stay more than 1 night. Would not return. Host at entrance was very friendly. - Globeville
May 2017 - $35.00
I'm sorry to say that this park was a huge disappointment. We arrived anticipating trees and semi private spaces, like most national parks. The sites are side by side with no separation, and not many trees. Sites were gravel with a fire ring and picnic table. There was no feeling like being in a national park at all. Proximity to the lake would, I suppose make it good for people with kids, or those fishing. - Two Travellers
May 2015 - $20.00
This is a great spot for fishermen. The campsites here are right on Hauser Lake. Campers can even rent boat slips so they don't need to take the boat out of the water when they aren't in it. The only problem here is that there are 2 campsites per space, so you are really close to your neighbors if the campground is busy. We were here during a slow period, so had plenty of space. This campground is very busy in the summer, so reservations are a good idea. Park rangers are excellent and even got us an adapter so we could hook up our hose to put water on. - Bobbi1948

This is a Bureau of Reclamation campground along Canyon Ferry Lake. There are no hook-ups but the sites are paved and level. Reservations are accepted. The day use area is part of the actual campground and it is very busy. Prepare for a lot of boat noise as it is right on the lake. There was a host but he didn't seem to enforce the leash rules as several dogs were left off leash. The campground was average and about what we expected. Look out for low branches. Our RV was too tall for some of the trees. I asked the camp host to let the park management know so they can be trimmed before someone's roof gets damaged. - RosieandThumper

The Spot they put our Tiffin in was right in front of the office, in I believe #5, which was on grass, not level, No 50 Amp. and sporadic 30 Amp (in the heat of the day, it would not run One of our A/C's and our Microwave at the same time), and they were not interested in the least in trying to fix the problem. - OlePhart

The GOOD, the BAD, the UGLY. The GOOD...this is a relatively nice campground on a nice lake. We stayed in the overflow area with no hookups. Camping experience was fine. The BAD...the owners could use some work on their "people skills". Not real friendly and sort of short and abrupt. You get the feeling from them like "give me your money and move on". The UGLY...we rented a pontoon from them, and upon its return, were accused of doing a $1000.00 damage to it. While returning to our RV, I got to thinking about all the digital photos we took that day, and as luck would have it, we had two very good photos of that side of the pontoon while we were boarding in the morning that clearly showed the damage before the pontoon left the marina (they were dated and time stamped). The owner reluctantly looked at the photos and said he believed us. Draw your own conclusions. There are a lot of nice campgrounds and marinas around this lake, and we will not be staying at this one again. - grldst
Jun 2009 - $27.00
The park looks nice but has many problems. No cell, internet, or TV service. Surge protector shut down the power to our RV at least twice because of low amperage. Could not finish dumping gray tank because the septic overflowed. Lot we were in was down an embankment making it difficult to unhook and hitch up. Lake is beautiful but we would not stay here again. - Skittlez
