This is a first come/first served park. Arrived on a Saturday afternoon, but, had called ahead & told that a site would be available. Site (68) was paved and level. Electric only. There is road noise being right off I80. Cost was $25 + daily park fee of $5 = $30. Payable in cash or check. Overall nice park but somewhat overpriced for having only electric. We had a back-in site which was just adequate for our 28 ft Airstream. Pull-thru sites are designed so camper is parallel to road. We camped at Windmill State Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Stayed two nights with electric only. Site was convenient on the side of the road called a pull through but electric hookup on the opposite side of the rig. Very sparsely populated at the time which made it super peaceful, but people driving way too fast. There was no one to check in with and no camp host anywhere. Fire ring was filled with trash and couldn't be used. Bring your own water. We camped at Windmill State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

A good place to stop over. There are ac couple of Mexican restaurants to eat in. We didn't enjoy the one we chose. No other places to eat.

Overall Rating:

We stayed here 2 nights at the end of July. The CG is nicely maintained (grass cut and clean) but this is an older CG modeled after smaller campers. I had trouble backing into our site because the "pull thru" site right across the street from me was so close to the road. I don't blame the camper in the pull-thru site, it's just the poor design of the CG. My spot was also very short. My 29' TT fit but I had no room to park my truck without being half way in the grass. The CG is a hot spot for locals and the place was packed with people visiting their friends. The loop roads are narrow and the back-in sites should dictate which way to drive but there are no one-way signs and I was constantly meeting people head on going the wrong direction. If this CG had some updating (water at each site, longer back-in sites and better designed pull thru sites), I'd stay here again. But, at this time, it's just too small and crowded for my taste. We camped at Windmill State Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

The park itself is relatively nice and clean, although it doesn't feature much except a couple old windmills and a large picnic area. What spoils the fun is the proximity to the I70; many sites are less than 300 ft away and very noisy 24/7. I wouldn't stay here again. We camped at Windmill State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice, well maintained campground with easy exit just off I80. Perfect for overnight stop. We came in mid afternoon on Saturday without a reservation. Area mowed nicely and lots of folks were fishing. Very pleasant. We would definitely stop again. We camped at Windmill State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We preferred the back in site because the pull thrus were on the side of the roads in the park. On those sites, slides extended into the street and could be clipped if people weren't careful. Great walking paths. Only negative $8 day park fee was added to camping charge. We would definitely return.

Overall Rating:

Stayed here for 2 nights starting the day of the total solar eclipse. Arrived late in the day and found fewer than expected people, and most of those left the next morning. Sites are HUGE, with well-tended grass and mature trees scattered around several large ponds. Mix of tent and RV sites, many with electric; some are FCFS and others can be reserved on Nebraska's ReserveAmerica portal. Although there are no water or sewer hook-ups, there are quite a few communal water spigots (with threaded mouths) and a dump station on premises. Only negative at that I80 is adjacent to the park and creates enough road noise to be noticeable day and night. We camped at Windmill State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

This is the Platte River Valley. Across I80 from the campground, is an Audubon center and Rowe Sanctuary Visitor's Center - a worthwhile visit if you are a bird lover/watcher. During Spring and Fall this area is alive with sandhill and whooping cranes. Stuhr Museum and Gardens is a pleasant half-day walk-around, about 25 miles further east from the campground north of I80.

50/30/15 amp sites. Water- one spigot per 10 sites. Dump station. New restroom, shower building is tornado shelter.

Typical Nebraska I-80 recreation area, but a little bigger and nicer than most. In addition to nightly rate, a State Park permit is needed. We stayed 7 nights, visiting family. Pull-throughs are parallel to lane, slide out is very close to passing vehicles. We camped at Windmill State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Stayed 5 nights in a Motorhome. Typical interstate recreation area in Nebraska. Well kept and clean. Sites are paved, water close to sites. Pull throughs are parallel to road, so slide out may be close to cars driving through sites. We camped at Windmill State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Windmill SRA is an oasis on Interstate 80. After miles and miles of prairie, this was a welcome stop. The park has vast grassy areas and many mature trees. The sites are well spaced, some along the road and others back-in. There are five lakes on the property along with trails.

Even though a park entrance fee is required in addition to the RV site charge, it is still a very good value. We camped at Windmill State Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Very attractive park with duck ponds, lots of green grass. Sites are good. The weather was awful so I had to stay inside most of the time. Would return for a longer stay. We camped at Windmill State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

What a beautiful park! There weren't many campers here when we stayed so there was lots of open space. The pull-through sites are rather odd in that they are just pull-offs from the road and if you have a slide-out it extends into the roadway. Other than that it is a well maintained state park, beautiful green grass and mature trees, lots of birds around to look at! There are two pond/lakes there too. We camped at Windmill State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

What a great campground. Huge sites and lots of grass. Had a great stay right off the freeway. Can't believe anyone would pay to stay in a private campground when this is so close with such a great price. We camped at Windmill State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.
