Fee for 1 night was based on $5 vehicle plus $5/person. This is dry camping. I did not see a dump station but there was a hydrant near the bottom of the steps at the end of the loop where you could fill a jug. Most sites were setup for tents or small campers and were close to each other. There were about 6 very large sites set aside for larger RVs. They say they are back in sites, but except for a large grassy area with a fire ring and picnic table about every 100' and posts with numbers, there were no defined parking spots. Everyone seems to pull off the road and park on the grass in any way that suits them near their assigned table and fire ring. Reservations are probably necessary on weekends as the river is very popular with canoes, kayaks and tubes. The dirt road leading into the park was well graded with a bit of washboard in spots. There is a steep descent to the office and recent rains had carved a deep gully on the edge of the road. We camped at Smith Falls State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The park is home to Nebraska's tallest waterfall. It gushes out of a rock formation near the top of a bluff over the river and cascades about 60' to an accessible pool at the base. While not visible from the campground, it is a short walk. The river is a favorite for canoes and float trips. There is a map showing the designated put in and take out points and float times along each segment. We saw an outfitters landing near the campground where a vendor was renting rafts.

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

A very scenic campground along the Niobrara River at the base of a bluff. The sites for RVs are located up a berm from the road but the sites are huge and there are no trees to make things difficult. Its just a grassy field. The falls is a short, 1 mile walk from the campground and well worth the effort. Good tubing and canoeing in the summer. The entrance is from Hwy 12 over about 3 miles of good gravel road. The office sells snacks and a few camping/fishing items but no groceries. We camped at Smith Falls State Park in a Motorhome.
