The campground elevation is 7752 feet above sea level. If you have issues with elevation maybe camp down in the nearby town of Baker, NV. There are NO reservations for ANY of the campgrounds in Great Basin N.P.. We went over the Labor Day Holiday weekend and it was PACKED. We were EXTREMELY lucky to find a FANTASTIC site (site #18). Site 18 specific info: plenty of shade from trees and three ICY cold streams around the site. There is easy access to the streams and after hiking all over the place, resting your feet in the water is AMAZING. The site has access to water and is just the right distance to the pit toilet. The orientation of the site is such that you will not see any other campsites unless you go out to the road. There is a tent pad or room to park a small pop-up camper/small trailer. General information: Upper Lehman is set up in two sections. The lower section has scrub oak type trees and seem more exposed. It has sites for larger campers. The upper section has pines and more cover but is set up for tents or small campers only. It's wonderful. Go anytime other than a major holiday and you should be able to find a great site. We camped at Upper Lehman Creek Campground (NPS Campground) in a Tent Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Great Basin NP is amazing. It is a NO FEE national park. The elevation is significant, over 7,000 feet. Check out Lehman Caves, night photography and hiking. There are VERY limited services in the town of Baker near the park.

Nice quiet primitive campgrounds a few miles from the caves. Be sure to reserve ahead or find a site early in the morning when others leave as the campground fills quickly in the summer. There is a trail along a creek near the campground for hiking. Buy supplies before reaching the area as the little town nearby only has a cafe, RV park, and a couple automated gas pumps. There a few decent sized pull through spaces, but most sites are smaller back ins. We camped at Upper Lehman Creek Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Stayed two nights, going to Lehman Caves and up to overlook (road to top of Wheeler was not open yet due to snow). Beautiful setting, creek running behind site, plenty of space. We camped at Upper Lehman Creek Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

We picked our spot when we arrived and self-registered. If going to Lehman Caves, you need to make reservation for the tour

Overall Rating:

This is a somewhat primitive campground located at 7,752 feet elevation and is accessible from a nice two lane road in the Great Basin National Park. Unfortunately, much of the interior asphalt road is in poor and rutted condition... likely due to the harsh winters here and lack of funding for repairs. The interior road is somewhat narrow in places with tight turns so I would absolutely NOT recommend you enter this campground with a long travel trailer or any large RV due to the twisty interior road and the fact that the sites are quite small. Truck campers, travel trailers of 18 feet or less, smaller pop-up type trailers, and tenters should do just fine here. A campground host is usually located on site, water spigots are located throughout the campground with good pressure, and pit toilets are provided. Most campsites have a picnic table and fire ring. There are no RV hookups of any kind here, and no cell service is available within the Park or in the surrounding areas. A pay phone is located at the visitor center. A holding tank dump station is located toward the park's visitor center and has potable water available. Another dump station with potable water is located on the south end of the nearby town of Baker, NV and costs $5.00. We camped at Upper Lehman Creek Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.
