Overall Rating:

Price reflects $10 entrance fee, and $20 RV E&W site. This is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to and we've traveled widely for several years. In August, it was easy to get a spot because it was hellaciously hot, but they do not take reservations and I hear you have to be there when it opens to get a site most of the time in the more temperate times of the year. Not surprised. You will have to look long and hard to find a more scenic place to camp. Didn't use the restrooms, but checked them out and they were clean, bright, and modern. Sites are very generously sized and spaced far enough apart for some privacy. Just passing through this time, but hope to be back again when the weather is mild enough to spend some time outside exploring. We camped at Valley of Fire State Park in a Truck Camper.

After repeated visits over the past 15 years this still is one of our US favorite campgrounds: it is clean & quiet, featuring beautiful red rock scenery close to Las Vegas (an advantage for jet-lagged tourists). Sites are ample, concrete and virtually level, pull through or back-in. A fire pit, great views all day long, lots of trails, petroglyphs around the corner and an easy going atmosphere among fellow campers, supported by knowledgeable rangers. This time we arrived in a C-Class motorhome and stayed for 3 nights. We camped at Valley of Fire State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a beautiful spot. Fascinating petroglyphs and gorgeous red rocks. Get there early if you want hookups. 22 sites have hookups; 22 are dry. Nice area for bicycling along roads. We camped at Valley of Fire State Park in a Motorhome.

$10 per night+10 park fee.. absolutely gorgeous location. Arch Rock has water spigots throughout campground. Wifey absolutely loves it here. Atlatl has electricity but costs a little extra. Sites are concrete and mostly level at Arch c.g and a bit better in Atlatl. Pet friendly and garbage cans around both sites. Park Rangers are friendly and frequent. First come/first serve basis. There are other camping options in poverty flats, Overton, and lake mead if full. Don’t bother coming in summer unless you have a death wish. There is a dump site close by. We camped at Valley of Fire State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

You’re inside the park which doesn’t open until 10:00am so you can hit some of the trails before it opens and the tourists fill up the park. White Domes trail was an easygoing trail and our dogs had a blast. Firewood sold at the welcome center($8).

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We arrived around 1:00PM and were able to get an electric/water site in January. This whole park, including the campground, is gorgeous with lots of hikes and things to see. Some of the campsites are Pull-in types for motor homes so if you back a trailer in, the hook-ups will be on the wrong side. Most of the sites are very good sized and they all have great views of the rocks. The bathrooms were clean enough and they had showers. Thankfully we were out and about during the day because two families that looked like they were living full-time in their RVs camped across from us and were awful. The ranger had to come and collect money from them because they didn't pay. The husband was very LOUD and every other word out of his mouth was the "F" word and he talked (yelled) all day. The kids kept running in and out of my campsite and I had to finally get my teacher voice out of retirement and get on them. I really enjoy kids, but not when they are throwing rocks at each other and fighting constantly with no parental supervision. I know this is not the park's fault, but it put a damper on our enjoyment of the place. We hope to go back and have better luck with the neighbors. We camped at Valley of Fire State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

It's been about 10 years since we stayed here last. It's easily top 5 on our state park campground list. As others have noted, the scenery is amazing. There are tons of the things to do, lots of hikes, and other things to see and do. The sites vary greatly in size an features. So, do some research if you can. Some sites have nothing, some sites have just water, some sites have water and power. There is a really nice dump station which is nice. That's hard to find around Nevada (nothing on Mt. Charleston, nothing at Red Rock, etc). Again, as others have said, get here early. We pulled in around 5pm on a Thursday and we got that LAST spot with hookups that could fit a 40 foot RV. Well into the evening we saw camper after camper attempting to find a site and driving away. In the mornings, as fast as people were leaving, another camper would pull right in behind them. 9-10am seems to be when the most in/out activity is. Sites are not level by any stretch of the imagination. We're in a site that LOOKS pretty level but we can't get truly level. It's good enough, but we are noticeably low in the back. Power is great, water is great, sites are spacious and they've done a really good job of making each site feel private. If you are a larger RV like we are, I would use Google earth to look at and measure sites before you get here. Then use that list to narrow down your options. If you are smaller, everything is good. There is NO shade so this is a GREAT place to run on solar if you have it. Come here, have fun, take lots of pictures. We camped at Valley of Fire State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Hiking is great here. The visitors center is starting to get a little dated (when 2000 is the future on some of the literature) but really nice. Great information, friendly people, nice gift shop. Driving distance to a ton of great stuff, even Las Vegas is just about an hour away.

Nice State Park. We stayed at the no hook up section since we have solar power for the rig. It's a busy park since it's so close to Vegas some get there early in the day to secure a spot. It's first come first served. The park is interesting and this is a great base camp to explore it from. We camped at Valley of Fire State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Very spacious sites with lots of space between sites too. In a beautiful setting surrounded by massive red rock formations. We stayed in the non-hookup campground which was $10 a night plus a $10 daily entrance fee. I'm not sure why they don't just say $20 a night. Lots of scenic areas with short and longer hikes. We camped at Valley of Fire State Park in a Motorhome.

Ok, a little clarification on Atlatl CG. There are discounts available with a yearly/ senior and disabled resident of NV card. There are about 6-8 sites that are fairly level, including the paved, handicap sites.... if you are fortunate enough to get one. We have a 40' DP, and tried 3-4 sites before we got one where we could level, with our nose about 3' off the ground. You can find very weak Vz cell if you walk around enough, and we able to get wifi with our Vz jetpack on a booster. No AT&T service anywhere we could find. Good water pressure and flawless 50 amp. Unrestricted rooftop DTV. Sites are huge. Easy big rig access in CG and dump station. Noise travels alot here, so it is not a quiet, peaceful CG. We will return, not not in the same site. We camped at Valley of Fire State Park in a Motorhome.

Wow! We loved this place. One of our favorite campgrounds. Enjoyed the rock formations that tower over the sites. In the morning a big horned sheep walked past our camp site. This is a State Park and not a campground but it does offer a loop that has water and electric. The bathrooms were not in great shape as one of the two stalls in the men's room was not working as was one of the two urinals. The campground did offer showers that while rustic, did work. The RV loop doesn't accept reservations and has a self check-in and pay station. The sites are well spaced apart with large beautiful rock formations between many sites. There are fire rings and picnic tables with coverings for shade. We camped at Valley of Fire State Park in a Travel Trailer.

VOF stands up to the rave reviews, location is stunning, sites are great, bathrooms/showers are clean and did i say the location is stunning? We didn't find too much trouble with sites not being level, the park is easy to get around in and there are quite a few pull thru's. The only problem, we found was folks with small rigs that could easily fit in any number of sites, taking a large pull-thru. Also several of the sites are meant for 2 rigs and folks taking the whole space. As this park grows in popularity, as it is, it would be nice if all of us rver's would keep others in mind. We camped at Valley of Fire State Park in a Motorhome.

A "hidden gem"! One of the most beautiful places we have stayed. Loved all the big rocks around us. The covered picnic tables were really nice and provided needed shade, but it really cooled off in the evening. The person at the entrance gate was super friendly, but it was 'first come, first served', and the lady on the phone was very unfriendly. The first site we tried was so un-level we couldn't stay there. Thankfully there was another one available that did work great. If you want wood for a campfire, be sure to pick it up at the visitor's center before you find your spot. We camped at Valley of Fire State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

The Basics: Roads and Sites are Gravel and can get dusty. Showers are excellent, private unisex bathrooms and showers. Sun shelter and picnic tables with grill and fire ring. The scenery around the campground is excellent. Lots of tent and dry camping sites. 20/30/50 amp with water at sites and dump station available. Verizon phone and MiFi work pretty well. The RV sites with power and water are huge and can accommodate the largest rigs and toads and there are a few pull throughs. All and all a most excellent campground. Good clean power with all the power sites full at 90 degrees with rigs running their AC and no power fluctuations. Except... The only sites that are close to flat are the handicap sites (several are available). If you come here plan on using all the play in your rig's leveling system plus some additional blocks. There was a 10.5" difference measured at the center line of my RR tire and the center line of my LF tire. I used 4.5" of lift on my LF tire, 1.5" on my LR tire, 3" on my Rf tire, and none on my RR tire before my air bags would level the coach. Sites are designed so all the hook ups are on the wrong side if you back in. Once you do manage to get your rig level or close enough you will find this an excellent CG with great facilities in a magnificent area. If you are a Nevada resident there are some discounts available. The pricing for the CG is $20 + and additional $10 if you have a site with power; this includes your daily entrance fee. Dump station just out side the CG. If you leave the site to explore the park you MUST leave something in your site to indicate that it's occupied. There was no host available on site. If we're in the area we sill camp here again. This is all first come first served so plan accordingly. We camped at Valley of Fire State Park in a Motorhome.
