Overall Rating:

We spent the first night in the north campground. It is lovely with private, clean, and level sites, but it is dry camping. If you don't need the hook-ups, the 33 sites are very nice with fire pits, grills, and a picnic table on concrete with a ramada. In the morning we decided to move to the RV campground with hookups. We had a problem with the generator, so we ended up needing the electric. There are 20 full hook up sites in the RV camp which is across the street and just south of the north campground. These sites are also very nice. They are less private and many are not level, so if a rig has auto-levels, it is fine. If not, you'd need to drive around and find a site that is relatively level. We found site 13 to be perfect. It is at the end of the campground overlooking the valley. The star gazing at night is just amazing. Also, a plus is the free firewood at the campground entrance. The weather in October is cold at night in the 30's and perfect during the day in the 70's. The main problem with the sites in the RV campground is that most of the hookups are on the wrong side. Most people want the coach door and awning facing the camp site and ramada. To do this, we needed to pull the RV in backwards and run the hookups under the rig. We had a long enough electrical cord and water hose to do this, but our black water hose was not long enough, so lesson learned on that! Get a longer hose! The ranger stopped by mid-morning, picked up our payment, and chatted with us awhile. He was very friendly, told us about upcoming events, and explained a bit about the area. We learned that the campground was completely redone about three years ago. It is well maintained, and we highly recommend this park. The lower rating was strictly for the non-level sites and the awkward placement of the hookups. We camped at Echo Canyon State Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: November, 2008 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

Did this park after Big Bend of the Colorado SP. Kind of let down but in a good way. This is your basic campground, no frills, surrounded by nature. Park is about 12 miles east of Pioche on Hwy 323. Peaceful is the word I would use to describe my visit. This is an older park and it's facilities show it. They are maintained well but show their age. There were no hook-ups so I had to run my generator. Quiet hours are 10pm to 7am so if you can't live without watching TV after 10pm this is not the park for you. If you want to get away and enjoy the silence and solitude of nature this is the place to go. We camped at Echo Canyon State Park in a Truck Camper.
