The wifi needs work, only works at office. Xfinity was there working. - A_lan
Oct 2016 - $37.00
This campground is in a wooded area with lots of trees immediately off the roads on both sides of the winding roads to get to your campsite. Although the park advertises it has big rig access, this is a lie. The trees are so close to the winding road that big rigs cannot make it through without hitting some trees. I damage a window awning. It also only has 30 amp electrical hookups and not 50. I will not be back with my 40 foot motorhome. - F_Jecks

Calef Lake was the first camp ground my family (2 adults, 4 kids) went to after purchasing our Travel Trailer. It was close to home and for that reason we figured it was a good place to try out camping. The people there are very friendly, both the staff and long term campers. The camp ground was very clean, with the site being raked down prior to our arrival. The second time we went, they put wild flowers in a plastic vase out on the fire pit. The beach is raked down daily and it is a nice sloping grade for young kids, with a dock the older kids like to play on. There were a lot of other kids on the camp grounds, giving a mix ages. The camp ground got really quiet at or just after 10pm. For services, the water pressure was good, we didn't have any problems with the electrical or sewer. There is a second pond for fishing, however be prepared to loose a lot of hooks as there are a lot of trees in the water. The overall camp ground is small but quaint. The kids enjoyed bike riding everyday. The camp ground is small enough that they passed the camp site every few minutes making it easier to keep track of them. The dumpers, while are on the way to the beach tend to fill up quick and have a foal odor in the immediate area. The roads can be tight to maneuver larger trailers through the park. All in all, my family really enjoyed the camp ground, and we plan on making regular trips back in the years to come. - NHChris

We stayed mid week in Sept 2018 so we had our pick of campsites. This is a dry camping park. Water is available at various locations in the campground. Very wooded so trees could be an issue depending on your size. We tow a 28 ft camper so only a few sites were suitable. We stayed in #30 which very accommodating,. Others would be #24, 29, 44 & 9. I would not recommend this park for a class A or large class C rigs. We paid $25/night; the showers are coin operated, so have a supply of quarters. - Penfield Pathfinder
May 2014 - $25.00
We opened the park (literally, we watched the ranger open he chain gate). For that reason there were things that were not quite ready. Cleanup was still happening, not all sites were open. Not a big deal. The nice part was having the whole park to ourselves. One other camper came in just as it got dark. The bathrooms were clean. The showers were not very good. The shower heads were 90% clogged up and sprayed everywhere other than where you needed them to spray. The trails & views were great, and it was very quiet. I plan on coming back during the middle of the Summer to see how it is during the busy part of the season. There is only one bathhouse open for the 2014 season, so it might get a little dicey for those who visit during the busy times. We plan on staying here again next year on opening weekend. - BigNuge
Sep 2012 - $23.00
The park is not really set-up for RV's, even small ones; the road inside the camping area is very narrow in spots because of trees. The road to the campground has a small bridge with a weight limit of only 2 tons. Apparently the 2 ton limit was recently imposed. Our rig is 5 tons, we had to back up when we encountered the bridge. Couldn't locate a park employee anywhere but did run across a state policeman who said he didn't know about the limit but that log trucks went across the bridge all the time. The park map seemed to indicate that there was a back way into the campground; unfortunately the road was blocked right before entering the campground -- more backing up. After talking with the policeman again, we went over the bridge into the campground where the manager said he didn't really know about the weight limit (the signs had gone up only a couple of weeks earlier) but that big trucks from the lumber companies, the trash trucks, and heavy vehicles used the road all the time. The bathrooms were OK but the showers were not clean - one stall had a pile of cigarette butts and an old beer can on the floor. There was a $15 charge for using the dump station. We were not impressed with this campground - liz&denis

Jul 2010 - $30.00
Based on the questionable previous reviews we went. Apparently only one site is used for non-seasonal campers. There is no sign save for 18x24" hand written corrugated plastic cards sticking in the ground near the road. The office was the second clue about the deteriorated nature of the campground. The site was littered but OK. The electricity was four 15amp plugs (no 30 amp). Only two worked giving only 104 to 105 volts with the A/C on. This caused an automatic safety cutoff. Checking the next site I found no power at all. Power was being brought in by ordinary orange extension cords from the next site. Same across the way. Voltages measured around 108/109 no-load and 105 to 102v with load. Looking around it was clear that the manager had long-term problems with camp electricity. He could not offer a site with 120 volts and refunded our $30. - BbTrombone
Jul 2009 - $30.00
We loved this park. Most sites are fairly level and all are shaded. Our site was directly on the Suncook River. The owners and maintenance staff as well as the seasonal campers were genuinely friendly without being intrusive. The park is quiet, peaceful, relaxing and the surroundings are lovely. If you have fond memories of how camping used to be, then this park may bring those memories back to life. The facilities are well maintained for a park of this vintage. Some of the picnic tables were well-used, but the campsites were clean, the fire pits were raked and the small beach was clean. The location is a good base for exploring the surrounding area. We will definitely visit again. - leorah
Apr 2009 - $30.00
We really enjoyed this campground. From the moment we arrived the owners and staff were wonderful. Everyone was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. They do a great job keeping the park and facilities clean and in good working order. The campground is a wonderful get back to nature campground, nice shady campsites, and peaceful surroundings. Each site has its own hookup, picnic table and fire pit, which was clean upon arrival. Plenty of room at all sites and campers respect each other’s sites. There are seasonal sites here and the campers at those sites were very friendly and made you feel welcome. Just a relaxing place to stay. They do have a swimming pool, which was kept very clean. The waterfront has a little beach with clean sand, no cigarette butts or trash laying around. There are canoes and paddle boats for rental or you can bring your own canoe. Great fishing too! There is also a play area for children, away from campsites, but viewable from many sites, which was nice to let the children play and still see them in the area, plus the bathhouse and restroom are there too. The campground does offer seasonal activities such as movie night, pig roast and picnics. There isn't a schedule of daily events for children but the one thing that I loved about this campground is that it lets children be children and allows them to get back to nature. It was refreshing to see children using their imaginations and playing flashlight tag, bug hunting, rock collecting and just exploring nature! Children rode their bikes around, they left their sites and made friends with other children and just played like kids should do. This is what camping is all about! This campground is close to everything that New Hampshire has to offer within just a short drive. Great for a short stay or an extended stay. Also, for those who need their morning coffee, Dunkin Donuts is a mile down the road next to a laundrymat, food market and gas station. Convenience within a short drive or walk. We loved it so much that we extended our stay here and we are looking forward to returning this year. - Ameribrit

We stayed at AHC for 2 weeks in order to visit family in the area. Our feelings on this campground are quite mixed. We found the owners to be courteous and responsive when we had an issue. When we arrived check in was quick and polite. We were put in site #7. Here's where our issues with the AHC began. The site was very unlevel, we tried multiple positions and couldn't level the rig including using all our leveling blocks. I spoke to the owners who claimed that they had never had a problem with any big rigs at that site. Keep in mind the site was so unlevel that we borrowed 8 - 2x10 boards from the owners to add to our own 10 leveling blocks to finally get the rig level. The rear duals on one side were almost a foot off the ground!! For the owners to say they never had a problem borders on incredulous. On top of this we had requested a 50a site and received a 30a site. This CG is definitely not big rig friendly. Our site was sand/dirt as it appeared most sites were. We will not be staying here again. However, if I was camping in a smaller 5th wheel or TT and staying for just a few days I would consider it. It has a cozy feeling, the pool was nice, and they have lots of fun activities for families. - Dave and Deb

We stayed in a back in site. It was very tight getting in with our 44' MH. The site was nice. The fire pit was great. Restrooms and showers were very close by. Easy access to main roads. Would stay there again. - Chief55M
Sep 2017 - $44.00
I gave this campground a 7 because a) it is one of very few options in the area and one of the best, and b) the staff was really nice. Otherwise might have been lower There is a huge variety of sites - some more private than others, some easier to get in, some full hookup, some W/E, some more sloping. We chose site 81 which is in a bit of a separate alcove with 3 other sites, W/E. It is next to the lake, and right next to the walking path along the lake. So it is much more private and quiet. The site was great when we stayed as campground was not full. Verizon stong - 3 to 4 LTE There are quite a few seasonal campers here who apparently leave their units over winter, or for periods of the summer, etc. I'm guessing summer and weekends would be quite busy The bathhouse we used was horrid - lots of bugs, not very clean. It cost a quarter for the showers! But WORSE was there was a dribble of water - hard to get hair washed. My husband paid his quarter and didn't bother showering. Shower head and handle flopping around - geez needs a lot of fixing. The office staff were great both on the phone and in person. We stayed here just for a night as we had flown into Manchester, rented RV, and then went to Maine for 2 weeks. Needed place near Manchester on nite before returning RV We are from Colorado - have a fifth wheel and truck camper - camp 10-12 weeks per year. Camping in Maine (and NH) is certainly different from the western US. - chinookgeo

OMG! DO NOT STAY HERE! I'm not impressed with the poor customer service. We were given a site for a 28' trailer that we could barely fit on with weeds up to our knees! Not even trimmed before we arrived and no fire pit! I wasn't going to do a review until we were hassled to go to the office to pay $6 for a day guest!! We understand rules, but it's the way it was enforced! Go elsewhere this place is a waste of money!! - Kbella
Jul 2018 - $30.00
If you're not a long term resident, or here to play golf (9 hole par 3), this is not a great park. Even then I wouldn't rate it very high. The roads and sites are very tight with tree limbs that should have been trimmed long ago. They made a big deal in the 'rules' about not trimming limbs since they will do that, but obviously they don't. Our site had a speed limit sign that was poorly placed right next to it. Even though the overall site was a decent size & level, all of the trees made it feel very closed in. The fire pit was an old washing machine tub and not really usable. We did manage to find a hole between the trees to receive Dish satellite but I wouldn't count on it elsewhere. There was NO CELL OR WIFI reception. The original part of the park is not designed for big rigs, but there is a new expanded area which is much larger and better laid out....unfortunately they didn't put us in there. The train in the distance was not too noticeable. Since there aren't really any amenities, we thought the place was not a good value. - Hands For Him

I really liked this park. Super friendly and helpful staff. The golf course will challenge any golfer Tight course which rewards straight shots. Greens are fast and true. Be sure to make a reservation if arriving in a motorhome . - Dave Kain

This was a return trip for us but our first trip tenting here. This was our rough it weekend as we left the trailer at home and were tenting with the kids. We had 2 sites and plenty of room for 4 tents. It was raining when we checked in but the sites drained very good so all was good. We selected this campground because of the beautiful pool complex and without AC we wanted to be sure we could swim. We know that this campground is about 70% seasonal and has many golf carts but guessing due to the rain, a lot of seasonals were not there for the weekend. We found the campground to be somewhat quieter than in the past and we enjoyed our time there. We will return but probably with our trailer. - Happy Camper X2
May 2017 - $81.00
This is a very large campground with lots of activity. Most of the sites were seasonal and the residents and guests get throughout the park in golf carts. We were here Memorial Weekend and it was so crowded you could hardly get to your site for all the kids on bicycles and the golf carts. This is a huge community of weekenders that leave their rigs here throughout the season. They had lots of staff that were very helpful. Interior roads are very tight. Had to unhook the tow to make the tight turns up the hill. - GMS Lucy
Aug 2016 - $69.00
Great pool complex. Our site was plenty big enough, larger than many campgrounds we visit. Enjoyed a couple I've creams from the restaurant. Many seasonals with nice sites but they are some that are cluttered with too many tarps and canopies. The entertainment was enjoyable, loved the pool side music. - Happy Camper X2

Aug 2016 - $42.00
The park caters to seasonal campers, but has an open field for transient RVs, the "200's." The sites are somewhat cramped in the 200's and getting a 32ft TT backed into some of the spots can be challenging. They have a handful of pull throughs.
A neighbor RV did have problems with the park 50 Amp service, he had to use a dongle to utilize just half of his 50.
The best part of the campground is the pools. The kids had a great time in the pools. Sunday morning we ate in the campground restaurant, which was decent. - johnbaker
Jul 2016 - $46.00
Nice environment, clean restroom/showers, well stocked camp store. Lots of seasonals. Transient site was in tightly packed area. Our site had lots of exposed roots. Cable consisted of 12 channels and was often fuzzy. Wi-Fi for a fee; did not use. Pools were nice. Game room was lacking. Adult rec building becomes breakfast restaurant on weekend and food is good (and reasonable). Single bar on AT&T and Verizon cell service. Overall good weekend experience. We would return. - Bigdave2165
May 2014 - $42.00
This was the first time staying at Friendly Beaver. The facilities are great, tons for kids to do, dinners, big tractor drawn wagon rides, antique firetruck rides, horses & goats....the list goes on. The bathrooms were all clean & relatively easy to get to. The not so great was the "200 section" we stayed in. It is a large oval camping area just packed with sites. The back-in sites (along the outside) are tight. I have a 23' RV with one slide-out. I was lucky to not have any adjoining neighbors during the weekend, otherwise I would have been staring at their rig (or they at mine). I mean, with my slide-out extended, my awning touched the next site when it was out. I practically didn't fit. We asked about a more private/wooded site and was told those are mostly reserved for "monthly/Seasonal" folks. There are a huge amount of "full timers". They say they are strict with speed limits, but not with the brigades of golf carts. Those people flew around like they owned the place. A bit of a pun because I had a feeling a large amount of family/family friends actually do stay there. All in all it was a nice place. Lots for kids to do, 4 pools, one of which is an indoor heated pool. If we could camp in a nice wooded site we would go back. - BigNuge

We are 8 that camp together. I liked this place very much and would go back. The only thing is, people drive fast through out the campground. They don't bother you about putting your fire out at a certain time. You can have fun and enjoy yourself without being bothered by all the strict rules. One couple in our party did not like that M80's went off at 9:30pm about 3 times during the weekend because it upset their dog. But I enjoy it. We are all 50+ They have paved roads sites are a good size and level. - meister
May 2017 - $70.00
In our numerous years of camping,This is by far the worst campground we have ever been to. This is not a family campground this is nothing but a party zone. There is absolutely no regulations or security in this campground. People speeding around in cars or golf carts(some drunk, also children) radios blasting, there is no regard to pedestrians and their safty. People yelling and partying until 3:30 in the morning with no regards to children on the next site over trying to sleep. Calling security was a joke, only get a message mail box is full, could not leave a message. The people next to my sister, playing with lighter fluid in the fire, also smoking so much pot that my sister and her young children along with my pregnant niece and her 10 month daughter could smell it in their tent trailer. Again calling security was a joke, got the same message. There were also broke bottles from people drunk and tossing their bottles off the golf carts. These broken bottles were there from Friday until we left on Monday Memorial Day. This is definitely NOT a family campground. There is no "quiet time" as specified. No wifi and no cable. We would never return to this campground! The only good thing is they do have clean restrooms and showers and the site was big and level. - Fletcher_11

This park is located in the southern region of NH about 30 min from UNH, 45 minutes away from Manchester and the same from Hampton Beach. It is a beautiful park with the 195 campsites in three sections - a tent section, Big Island area and then Horse Island. There is also primitive camping on other lakes in this huge park. Horse Island and part of Big Island are reservable - 180 total. There are some great sites on Horse Island overlooking the lake and many have direct access for their kayaks from their site. Our site 7 was beautiful but tough to turn around in with a 25ft sprinter, so I would not pick it again. One needs to really read the write up about the sites. We loved site 43! There are bathhouses with flush toilets and coin operated showers throughout the park. All sites are wooded with open fireplaces, picnic tables and there is water available around the loops. There is a beach with playground, store and picnic tables all in walking distance from most sites but parking there is also available. Pets are not allowed in the park and there is no dump station. There are boat ramps for boating on Pawtuckaway Lake that surrounds the campsites. Many sites have lake views. We definitely will be back. I just wish they allowed pets and had a dump station. - gsnakehill
Jun 2013 - $40.00
Was a stop over for us on the way north. Nice park for families with the lake, beach, boat rentals and nice store. Sites are spacious offering privacy. We were able to back into our site with our 32 ft motorhome, but most sites are not level. Park is really not big rig friendly, most campers were in tents. Again, nice park, but we won't be returning because the price for a state park with no hookups is way too high. - Buckie
Jul 2012 - $30.00
Our family loved this campground. The sites are big and have a lot of space between them. The water in the lake was clean and warm. It had big boulders left behind by the glaciers that we canoed to and the kids could jump off of them. The camp store was expensive compared to what we are used to. The bathrooms were a little out dated, except for one that look like it was redone a couple of years ago. The bugs were pretty bad in the showering area. The showers are free even though there is a coin operator. The day use area gets real busy on the weekends. We definitely will go back next year. The also don't have a dump station. - B. P. Donelan

No problem with reservations although original assigned site was not available due to a late checkout of the previous camper. Was told the assigned site was better than the original. Not much to look at, as it backed up to a backwater area off of a small pond, view was mostly dead limbs and black muck, but at least there weren't any bugs. There are other sites that were occupied when we arrived that would have been better. Neighbor voluntarily re-staked his chained dog to the opposite side of his site after we arrived. Owner was helpful and pleasant. Gate card required a $10 deposit. Wi-Fi didn't work in our location and I didn't try the TV. We were here for 4 nights as we were visiting family in the area. We only spent the nights here.
It seemed to be a party spot over the holiday weekend for locals and the many permanent residents. Children seem to have a great time riding bikes and fishing in the small pond. There were some dead limbs in the trees over our site and was glad we didn't have a significant wind storm while we were here.
There are not many better choices in the area. We were here 20 years ago and it is not how I remembered it then. - Trailbuddy
Jul 2015 - $25.00
We stayed at Circle 9 for 12 days while waiting for Camping World to process some warranty work on our RV. We chose Circle 9 based on the five minute drive to Camping World and past reviews. The good: Site 127 is a pull through and we had no issues getting setup. We were guided to our spot by the owner, and he made sure we had everything we needed. Water and electric were fine, wifi was upgraded during our stay and worked well, except when the park was full during NASCAR race weekend, then it was intermittent.
The bad: The pull through sites are not the widest and alternate directions so our door faced our neighbors. This also meant sharing a picnic table and fire ring. This would be ok if camping with friends, but could pose a challenge with strangers. Our first weekend there a majority of the seasonal campers were out in force and the beer was flowing. A group of them setup at the horseshoe pits, which are near the temporary sites, and were getting rowdy, although the owner did send them back to their sites when he felt they were getting carried away. Quite a few seasonals don't leash their dogs and others who did had such long leads that dogs could still get near the roads which made walking our dogs challenging. The temporary sites are in an open field with no shade from the sun at any time of day. If the temperatures are moderate then its ok, otherwise expect your A/C to work overtime.
The pool was open but we did not use it.
We did hear the new owner has been in place for a year now and he does keep order when needed and seems to be keeping many in line. We need to be back in the area for more RV work so we most likely will return to Circle 9 after comparing it to other campgrounds in the area. - pfogleboch
Jul 2014 - $85.00
This has to be the worst campground I ever stayed in. I came to this location because it was close to NASCAR. It was 90 degrees and the pool wasn’t open. Looks like it has been inoperable for some time…wish they would have told us. The limited sites that they have are very small with one utility pool per 2 sites. Every other RV parks in opposite direction…meaning my door was facing my neighbors door. I think my awning and my neighbors were only a few feet apart. The seasonal campers weren’t just seasoning it appears they live there with make shift enclosures over very old travel trailer. Not a very desirable clientele. You had to pay for WIFI, bathrooms were dated and at this cost I would have expected a much nicer campground. This is a quick overnight stay location that shouldn’t cost more that $25-$30 dollars. - E597283
