Lovely setting along the brook. Wooded. Fairly tight roads, but we had no problems. We stayed at site 22, but next time will request either 44 or 61 as these are right on the brook. - DaveAndJoyce
Aug 2016 - $40.00
Very nice, forested location, creek and pond, extremely clean, well tended restrooms. Highway noise not an issue. It's obvious that the owners of this park have done everything possible to provide a pleasant camping experience. Few permanent sites seemed well maintained, but I wish one resident had not spent a half hour blowing pine needles from his site on the morning we spent there. Would gladly stay there again. - Dondi-496

Very friendly and helpful staff. We were impressed by the cleanliness of the showers and bathrooms. We wish they had Wi-Fi and other than pine firewood, but we will definitely camp here again. - d49r48

I have to agree with a previous reviewer on their appraisal of the park and the way it's set-up. We also heartily agree that the circle area on the other side of the pond was very quiet at night, one of the main requirements for us to give a good review. We also concur that the staff we dealt with were very friendly and accommodating, and the WiFi, although at a slight per day cost, was very strong. However, two items I wanted to mention were the utilities and the roads. This was the oddest utility layout I have ever seen. The water was at the front of the site, then the electric box, then the sewer connection was all the way at the back. We like the RV to be further back off the road, so we needed 2 sections of fresh water hose, but we had to maneuver the rig first so that the electric cord would reach. Then once we connected the water, we needed one section of sewer hose fully extended to reach the drain. It worked because we carry more hose than normal, just a little odd. And then there were the roads, or maybe goat paths would be a better term to use. Someone sold Crow's Nest a bill of goods with all the speed bumps they installed, because they definitely are not needed. There are so many potholes and bumps and rocks that I would have been crazy going 5 MPH, let alone anything faster than that. Fix the roads and you have home that I would return to. - Love To Travel 2
Jul 2017 - $38.00
This was a hard one to put a number to so I settled on a 7. This is a basic campground that is set up in 2, maybe 3 sections. The front section is a flat field with 4 rows of campers. A somewhat tight area with the outer 2 rows being seasonal for the most part and the middle 2 rows being back in sites that seemed real short, those with a long trailer did not seem to be able to park on the site. The back section was where we were, it is a circle with the inner part being full hook up and the outer section being water and electric. In addition, there was another road that had 8-10 tent sites with no hook ups. This area had trees, was more spacious and had a little privacy. There is a small section between the front and back with a few pull through's out in the open and a road that had water and electric sites on the river which seemed nice. We enjoyed our time here and found this to be a campground that families liked as there were a number of larger families with a lot of kids running around and riding bikes. The campground offered some fun and unique activities for the kids. The owners here were very nice and friendly. The store had wood and ice etc but did not really look at anything else. We took advantage of the pool which is very nice. The bathhouses were older but very clean. All in all it was a pleasant weekend and we enjoyed what we did. We would stay again if we were in the area or could put together and family gathering at a somewhat central area but not sure we would travel out of our way just to stay here if that make sense. - Happy Camper X2
Aug 2016 - $42.00
This CG hasn't been reviewed for awhile and it may be that there isn't a lot to do in the area. The entrance is a little shabby looking and there are a lot of permanent rigs not well maintained. There are two levels and both have sites which are grassed and level but very close to each other. We were in the lower level and depending on the site, you may be looking right into the many seasonal units. We asked to move over one site so we were looking out over an open field which made it much more pleasant. On the lower level, two sites share a service pole so your table and your neighbor's table are within 10' of each other. Big rigs can maneuver easily. Would stay again if we needed to be in the area, but it wouldn't be a destination. Pool and putt putt. W, E, S fine. Wifi is 1.00/day per device. Didn't use it. AT&T cell service is weak. Owners are very cordial. - Team Asphalt

Jul 2013 - $30.00
This is a small, "minimum frills" campground. Most of the sites are seasonals so there are a lot of friendships amongst the campers and everyone we encountered seemed to be really friendly. There is a flat grass area with a small stage where the campground musicians play for the crowds. The lake is beautiful and has a very shallow decline which makes it nice for kids. They can go out pretty far and still touch the bottom. There is one playground for the kids with a couple of climbing structures and swings but nothing too extensive. We went during the 4th of July weekend and it was amazing. They started Saturday with a patriotic tractor parade for the kids, ice cream social in the afternoon and finished out the night by putting on an amazing fireworks show over the lake. The surrounding residence to the lake join in with fireworks of their own and it makes the show just as good if not better than those you would go to a major beach to see. If you are looking for an all inclusive "resort"-like campground, this is NOT the place for you but if you are comfortable making new friends and having group dinners and just relaxing then this place is a good one to check out. - tiggiler

The park is a primitive park but it is beautiful all gravel roads with 41 sites, pit toilets and some water spigots. It is heavily wooded surrounded by ponds. One can kayak from one pond to another. There is a lot of wildlife here and the morning we arrived there had been some moose and loon sightings. The park is on the link of the Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway with a 51 mile hiking trail that connects the two mountains from the south to the north. The park was a logging community and the remains of dams, houses, foundations can be found when hiking. The first site 1 that we had you could look up in the mountains close by and see 12 wind turbines spinning around since this is one of the most windy spots in NH. They did not take away from the view they were actually quite interesting and beautiful to watch.
First we had site 1 and it was alone down a trail about 200 yards but then opened up to a big beautiful wooded site on Vickery Pond with its own dock. We have a 25 ft Sprinter RV so it is narrow and I would not have wanted to drive down that trail with anything bigger. Nice but no water to drink near us and there was a toilet in the woods (just the toilet with toilet paper in a bag). We decided to move because we were really alone out there and there is hardly anyone camping this time of year during the midweek. Campground closes in two weeks. We moved to site 6 on May Pond which was closer to the main road right on the water with beautiful views but not near a pit toilet or water to drink. The only reason I am explaining these sites is if you have a large RV you are not going to be happy here or if you can't take primitive camping even with a RV, this is not for you. We loved it! - gsnakehill
Jul 2010 - $21.00
Small campground in wooded area. Sites on road were small and a bit close. We seen a moose and woke to the call of the loons every morning. They don't recommend swimming in water due to a leach problem. Pet friendly but I was reminded about leash rule upon entry and spoke to about dog being off leash when he broke the clasp. After explaining the situation I was reminded about the leash law again! Maybe a bit too much. Toilets should be cleaned more frequently to eliminate smell. Friendly neighbors. - stemer2003

In addition to nightly rate, you're charged an extra $2/nite if you use your AC. They don't accept credit cards and prefer cash over a check. Lots of seasonal campers occupying preferred spots. Our site was pretty close to the road. Not much grass - so, despite outdoor mats, a lot of dirt got tracked into our camper. Faulty electric hookup required us to move after we were all set up, and caused blown fuses. Staff not very friendly. - Goldilox
Oct 2016 - $30.00
A complete difference from the other campground up the road. Lush greenery, nice roads, a pretty place. No restroom at our end, except for a porta pottie. No wifi except at the office, and that really doesn't count. Campgrounds need to grasp the concept of having high speed reliable internet service to all sites. If we really wanted to get away from it all, we'd be in a tent.
Nice family owners. - Kvw613

A short distance off the highway and easy to navigate our 36 foot fifth wheel to the entrance. Easy check-in and a guide to get us to the generous pull through site. Cash or check only and WI-FI only available near the office. The staff was very helpfull. - SuiteHauler350

Sep 2011 - $20.00
This campground and most of the sites are right on the Connecticut River. We stayed one night on a rainy day on our way to northern Vermont right after the floods from Hurricane Irene that shut down much of the state. Nice campground but narrow road to get to the sites. We have a 25ft Fleetwood Pulse and we could fit in most sites but I would not want to drive down the narrow road with something bigger. No hookups but the sites are all shaded with a connecting trail on the cliff above the river. They do offer canoe trips from here where they will drop you off north of the campground and you paddle down and pull in at the campground. The staff was very nice and at the ranger station campers are welcome to enjoy their outside fireplace with a roaring fire and a cozy little room inside the building to meet others. Showers are extra but the restroom was old but very clean. It was not hard to get a site during the week during the fall on a rainy day but they do recommend getting reservations. - gsnakehill

As we drove down the narrow, rather rough entry road, we had doubts about this campground; but we were pleasantly surprised! The young man at the office was friendly and helpful. The roads and sites are gravel/dirt, sites are mostly level and roomy, among tall shade trees. This campground is more like a State Park, only with full hookups, cable TV & WiFi. They also have a large, fenced dog playground with grass and shade trees; and nearby walking trails. We would definitely stay here again. - FranM
Aug 2018 - $36.00
This is a quiet family owned campground and a great value. It's a beautiful place to stay to explore the area. It has a rustic feel with sites among the trees - you can hardly see your neighbors. The sites are large and level with full hookups as well as tent sites. It is family and dog friendly with a playground and dog park. The owners are hospitable and take pride in their business. Great central place to stay to explore VT and NH. Sites are mulched. We will make this our go to campground to explore VT. It must be breathtaking in the fall. - DDP

Park location is close to many points of interest. Very quiet and peaceful. The showers are hot with good pressure and stream. Walking trails on site as well as across the road. - Helga K

Oct 2016 - $33.00
To be fair, they were closed for the regular season, and they did allow us to stay, without water or restrooms. The site was level, with power. So, what is there to complain about? Besides being right by the interstate, the place was just unattractive. It is a large field with some trees at one end, and narrow, hilly, access roads. I would not want to be there in the busy season. It just didn't fit the image of Vermont. - Kvw613
Jul 2016 - $37.00
Very nice and clean campground. Recently upgraded. Staff make you feel like family. Great place for the kids too. Each site has a fire ring, and with the sales of wood at the office, one can have a nice evening fire. - FishingMan1
Aug 2013 - $32.00
Nice location. There is a very steep driveway to get up but other then that it is okay to get through. Road is a bit bumpy but not bad. Had a big pull thru. Lots of seasonal people, but all very friendly. Well worth the stay. Nice area well worth the stay. - Travelin Jenkins

The park is beautiful . The campsites are spacious and private for tents and trailers/rv"s of maybe 25 ft or less . The auto road up to the top of Mnt Ascuyney offers outstanding views . The big drawback for me is the highway noise from Interstate 91. It is more than noticeable and constant day and night and for this reason I would not camp here again unless it were just an overnight stop . But for a day use trip up the auto road its worth going here . - GDM
Aug 2017 - $20.00
Mt. Ascutney State Park was the last stop on our week-long ME-NH-VT camping trip. We stayed for two nights, checking in on the last Friday in August. The campground was VERY empty. I counted about half a dozen occupied sites. It was so quiet, maybe a little TOO quiet. The ranger (young man) at the entrance was very helpful when checking in, and had no problem getting a couple bundles of wood out of storage for us. We took the auto road up, hiked to the top, and climbed the observation tower. Our campsite was quiet and spacious, no road noise and well secluded from the other sites. Very primitive and peaceful. No hookups, but the water spigot was directly across from our site so it was easy to fill our 5-gallon jug to refill our pop-up's water tank. Our gray water tote and cassette toilet were easily emptied at the dump station on the way out. Claremont, NH was just a short drive from the campground, and it was fun to explore town a little. - NTL1991
Aug 2016 - $18.00
No electric , water , or sewer at campsites. This is camping in the true old school fashion. But a beautiful park with plenty of hiking trails and a steep climbing auto road that will take you up to some nice views but not to the top of Mnt. Ascutney. You have to hike the rest of the way for that. There are some sites that would work for I would say up to a 28 or 29 foot trailer/RV. Lots of good tent and pop up sites though. It is a quiet, natural place if that's what you like. Like all the Vermont State Parks we've been to, the staff were helpful and friendly. Seemed to be a favorite place for Porcupines at night for what ever reason. Worth a few days visit for sure. - GDM

Campground has new owner in May of 2005. My family stayed there for Memorial Day weekend. What a blast. Karoake, BBQ, Ice Cream Social, water slide for the kids. The owners are a married couple with kids, great family. Friendly and involved. Safe campground, they keep track of the campers. Seasonals are friendly and fun to hang out with. Previous reviewer stayed when it was owned by different people. New owners are flexible with number of units in sites. Give them a call! I'd recommend to anyone. They've changed their name to Idle Times Campground. - gallora
