Okay, first of all the location is old. Very very very old. It is really really really in a beautiful location. Just amazing. Problem is if you need power ...literally at all, this is not the park for you. This is the worst power you will EVER find at any camp site. WARNING: Were barely getting 25 amps out of a 50 amp circuit. The power spikes are severe. Killed the washer and dryer. Freaked out all electronics. This is in a very beautiful area. You may have to run your generator the entire time here. Power is nearly none functional. Scenic and amazing place to camp, but the power will damage your systems. Sad! - ErikJ

One of the better options when visiting NYC, but I don't plan on returning. The electricity to the campground was intermittent, which posted a big problem on hot days. Most sites are on the small size for a big rig. The campsite is in need of renovation and investment. The county Park as a whole is huge and attracts hundreds and hundreds of people on the weekends. The train station is nearby, but probably too far to walk for most folks. The dumpster area is pretty rough. If the fix the electrical problems, I might give them a look again, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. - Undivided Nation

Been here several times, each time is worse. I don't plan on returning. County workers everywhere riding around on golf carts, but not doing much. Let's start with the bathrooms: heavy mold on the shower curtains, dead bugs everywhere (because the door doesn't close tight and the lights are on all night). Hair, mud, cigarette butts, empty shampoo bottles litter the restrooms. Windows are covered in cobwebs and dead bugs. I've been here a week so far and have only seen the restrooms cleaned once (they need to be cleaned 2x a day). Hoards of city kids bussed in for summer camp walk up from the tent sites and use the same 3 showers / 3 toilets on weekends. 2nd issue: Dumpster stinks and is overflowing most of the time, stray cats everywhere around dumpster. Big sign says "Don't Feed Cats". 3rd issue: Lot's of permanent trailers have been here for years, lots of work trucks, big propane tanks, messy sites. 4th issue: There is a field and hall adjacent to the campground used for family outings/company picnics. Last weekend a large group was there with loud music all day long, and they were playing softball in the field and several balls ended up under my RV and car; I was worried about my rig getting hit. No respect to the campers and kids were running through occupied sites to get water for squirt guns. I didn't drink the tap water because I think it's well water and the campground is adjacent to a huge closed landfill.??? 5th issue: Lots of low branches, the place needs a lot of tree work. All the campers around me have branches scraping their roofs. The Good: Proximity to NYC via train, full hookups, but only 30 amp. Grocery store within a mile. Nice area. - eventanman

Sep 2014 - $35.00
If you are wondering why you cannot find any reviews on this "worst campground" in the USA, read on. This was our first time in the New Jersey area. Since we live out of state, we searched for hours online to find an rv park within reasonable proximity to the New York City area. We did a Google search and found Sun Air Campground. We phoned the owner to ask if he could accommodate a large motorhome, if it was easy to get to New York City by mass transit and what amenities they had. I was led to believe that everything was fine; no sewer, but good electric and water hookups, a dump station and fishing just steps away with a nice view of the lake. We believed we would be staying in a nice country setting with good access and modern amenities. So here is what we saw upon arriving in town. Without a GPS we never would have found this place. No directions were given on the website. When we turned onto Cozy Lake Rd, it was a very narrow road in a residential neighborhood with low overhanging trees. There were no signs along the road to provide direction until we finally came upon a small weathered sign nailed to a tree by a driveway. This was our first clue. The driveway entrance was rutted and rocky with pot holes, heavily wooded and very narrow. We pulled into a turn around area and straight ahead was a rundown modular residence with a little sign "Office" above the door. I knocked on the door (9:15 am) - no answer. My wife and I walked down the road into the campground only to be met by a vicious barking boxer, luckily on a chain in front of what looked to be a permanent trailer residence. The available sites were uneven, difficult to get into and covered in leaves and tree limbs. All occupied spots looked like permanent residents. We immediately decided this campground would not even rate a negative one star rating. There is a reason why there are no photos of the campground on the website. Cut-out areas in a heavily wooded area does not make a decent rv campground. We knew we were taking a chance on this place with so little information online, but we thought we'd check it out. Couldn't see any satellite images on Google maps because the area is so overgrown and the buildings are trashy and in horrible shape. In our 20+ years of motorhome travels, this is truly the worst place we have ever seen. Needless to say we drove on down the road. - cal corvette
Sep 2014 - $35.00
Family owned, people are nice. Gravel roads that are not maintained, gravel sites, ours was not level even with the use of leveling blocks. We parked by the lake, which was full of algae. There had been a boat dock at one time, now the area is roped off with "do not enter" signs. There is only one bath house for showers that is in very poor condition. You have to pay to use the shower. There is another bathroom that is in even worse condition. Neither were clean. There is a dump station, but no sewer hook up. The majority of the sites are seasonal renters in run down trailers. This place only takes cash. - esta34950

Nov 2019 - $68.00
Most we have ever paid to stay at a campground. Bathrooms were open but none of the other amenities where open. I know this is off season, but they should at least have a rec hall you can use. We stayed on site 13. Very close to other sites. Water, Electric and Sewer connection were fine. It was very cold during our week there, so we disconnected our water at night. Their water lines are heated (that was a plus). Cable picture was on the fuzzy side and only 15 or so channels. Wifi was very good. Campground states they are about 60 miles from NYC but it takes about 2 hours to drive or take public transportation. Cost for public transpiration between parking, commuter rail and path trains was a little over $30 a person. Others might find rate reasonable during warmer months but for what they offer for the rate we would not stay again. The rate for 7 nights was $480. We would expect to pay about $100 less for what they offer. - Bergerde
Sep 2019 - $72.00
Big rig friendly with level sites. Campsite is 3 miles from highway. No problem with our satellite and WiFi was great. No dog park but grass to walk dog. Good overnight stop. - Fulltimersrv
Aug 2019 - $90.00
Overnight stop heading south toward Maryland. Many upgrades have been made to this campground since our stay in 2014. We were on the lower tier this time. FHU site was very level and all utilities worked well. Provided cable TV had limited channels and no PBS station. Provided WiFi worked exceptionally well. Bath house is a 3 set of WC, sink and shower. At 3 pm, the were very clean on inspection. Verizon data and voice was 1 bar. We would stay here again if we pass this way. - moderate camper

Quiet (except for the occasional plane), shady, peaceful. No sewer but bathrooms were clean. Some of the sites are short, but there were also plenty of big rigs also some are not very level. Verizon work well. Lots of mosquitoes in the twilight hours. Water hookup is very strange. Sites 1-8 the water is in the middle supplied by hoses. Sites 9-18 water is in the very front and shared. Odd number sites are OK, but even number sites require a very very long hose, not sure if it is provided. Office closed Mon and Tues. Manager is very nice. Would stay again. - newbies2016
Aug 2018 - $25.00
This is a great little stopover or getaway. Quiet (except the cicadas), shady, peaceful. No sewer but bathrooms were awesome. Some of the sites are short, but there were also plenty of big rigs. No satellite or OTA signals except one Spanish channel. AT&T and Verizon work well. Bring bug spray! - Keeping up with the Joneses
Jul 2018 - $20.00
Reservation help was excellent. We got in after dark, site #7 took 25 tries to back in, then got help from a retired trucker. Took her 15 tries and we aren't in straight. 34 ft Fifth wheel and F350. The park is beautiful wooded New Jersey hills. Very scenic. Electricity is fine with 50 amp service. Water hoses are provided on this site as the connection is about 100 feet away, and is in the middle of the woods, very odd setup. Others have water on their site near the street, but requires extra hoses. There is no sewer, but there is a dump station. This is a small park with only 19 sites, none are perfectly level, but most are easy to adjust for. Overall a very nice place, but the water and site 7 issue made it difficult for us. Water connections are difficult to find. Will need extra hose. - BWolfAR

MWR facility located next to West Point. Sites have water and electricity. Water is disconnected usually when it first opens, and at the end of the season. Water available by the maintenance building. Sites are selected for you depending on the size of your RV. Sites by the Bathhouse are close together (usually motorhomes), the ones on the hill are more spacious and private(not as level). Some long-term RV's appear to be in the same sites, don't know if they are designated as such. One road (one-way) loops around the campground pond. The bathhouse has showers with plenty of hot water. Laundry room next door. The road leading into the campground is very steep and winding road, but not long. Just take your time. Larger rigs need to watch-out for overhanging branches, especially going pass the bathhouse up the hill. Good Verizon service. No WiFi at campgound. - JC0311
May 2018 - $35.00
Very disappointed with this military CG! Not only did they raise the price by $8 a night because of "graduation week", the bathrooms needed updating and cleaning, the grass was overgrown, the "sites" were not well defined. No wifi. No sewer. No cable although over air got a few channels. Laundry room had both dryers "out of order" for 2 days as the man with the "keys" was off! All back-in sites! - CSM Carolyn
May 2018 - $27.00
This place earns a 5 star for location; however, the sites were designed for 20' travel trailers. That being said, the sites are not well organized or standardized and definitely not very level. You never know which side the power pedestal and water hookup will be located. When it rains, puddles are everywhere because of the lack of even gravel. The laundry room and showers were dirty and didn't appear to be truly cleaned for months. And since there is no sewer hookup at the sites, you are forced to use the facilities. No WiFi and cell coverage is spotty, which is common for the area. If I were the Commander of USAG West Pont and the USMA, I would almost be embarrassed that this place is associated with the school that produces some of the finest engineers in the world. - Techn0

We stayed at this park at a site by the pond (site 57.) It is the first season for the new owners; the prior owners (was “Toye Recreation” previously) had really let the park go, and it still is in the beginning of the renewal process.
The plusses:
- The nicest, most helpful park owners and staff we’ve ever experienced in a decade of camping! Really made the stay enjoyable.
- The pond is stocked, and we caught a nice bigmouth bass the first day we were here :) Also clean enough to swim in. The park also provides kayaks and a boat to use.
- a BEAUTIFUL area in NJ! About 20 min’s to High Point State Park, 10 min’s to the A.T., plenty to see and do
The minuses:
- Many areas in the campsite as of the time we stayed there are a work in progress & therefore incomplete - the pond beach area, the pond dock, what used to be a game room & restaurant, etc are not in usable shape.
- No pool, no WiFi (although cell service was fine), no cable.
- Bathrooms/ showers are only at the main building and are rough but clean. Porta-pots in other areas of the property.
- Nothing to do in the park but play on/in the pond, fish, or just hang out. (may be a plus to some folks!)
All in all, we really enjoyed our time at this park, and we will be back next year to see the progress the new owners have made! - Will Dennis

I go camping every week and the staff were terrible and disrespectful. I would never book a spot on this campground again. If I was the owner I would feel ashamed for how they handled business. Very unprofessional. - Timothy Clark

Nov 2019 - $50.00
There are RV parks and places to park the RV. This RV park is the latter. There are 10 sites, all gravel. Most are close to level. We had 50/30/20 amp, sewer but the water on site was turned off due to freezing temps. First, the access is limited as RV's are prohibited on the parkways. The turn by McDonalds is sharp and tight. Manageable if there is no other traffic. Station Hill road is a steep hill, with a sharp turn that was widened and manageable for a 40 foot class A. At the bottom of the hill is the "park". A sign instructs you to pull to the rail road tracks and back in. (A small RV could manage a turnaround though.). The railroad is about 40-50 feet away from the sites and the train comes rumbling through! Lost count but at least one an hour daytime and two or three at night. Unfortunately there is a gated crossing that literally leads to the river and the train horn is required. The commuter trains run across the river and can be heard as well. If you don't like train noise in the middle of the night, earplugs or look elsewhere. The Owners were nice and gave us some local information. Payment in cash only. Utilities worked well and the owners had water available for tank fills. - DJR CMR

Once you get to the park it is well located to see NYC. The drive in is an adventure but the saying "go slow-go wide" makes it doable. The park itself is just a parking lot with the max number of space jammed in. We could not get reservations for electric and water so we were in the "overflow" area and if we return would stay there again, way more room and from our space we could see the NYC sky line and the Statue of Liberty. When we where leaving our slide would not come in after much work we got it in and left 40 minutes after check out time and they charged us $40 for a "late fee", seemed extreme but those were the rules. Given the few options we would stay there again. - sjones
Sep 2019 - $120.00
One of the most expensive campgrounds we've ever been to other than Fort Wilderness in Disney. It is nothing more than a parking lot with water and electric. The office doesn't have ice or any other store items, but they have a very informative packet of information. This campground does give you direct access to New York City. Via the ferry or the path train you have easy access. Because you are so close and your neighbor's slides are over the line into your area, you get to know people quickly. - DebGA
Sep 2019 - $110.00
The very good about this park is location, location, location. Ferries, PATH trains, etc. all close by. Love the restaurant/bar next door (Surf City) good food and great views of NYC. The bad: It is the worst dump of an RV park I have ever stayed in and paid so much for. Sites are jammed together. No sewer and the RV dump is in the corner and you have to back into it. The electricity is unusable a great percentage of the time. Many times the voltage is under 100. Occasionally it gets to 107. If you ask about the electricity shutting off AGAIN, they say the "park is old". Such low voltage could damage your AC, etc. I have been here 3 times over the years and the electricity is the same every time. I do think the "C" row is the worst. All that said, it is the only place to stay if you want to see New York. - Jhiggins
