Nice RV park away from the interstate traffic noise. Nice wide sites. Easy in and out. About 45 min drive to Carlsbad Caverns National Park. We camped at Carlsbad KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This is a very nice campground. However, it has one fatal flaw: the water quality is awful, in taste and hardness, testing over 1000 ppm. They really should invest in on-site water treatment equipment; it overwhelmed my softener. You felt like you never really got wet while showering. The good points: very easy access from road, great maneuverability for the biggest rigs, very nice wide sites, mostly level with a few depressions. All roads and sites are gravel, and while there are some trees, there is no meaningful shade here in the high Chihuahuan Desert. Very nice and clean bathroom and shower facilities in both office complex and separate building. Nice camp store. Very good cable TV and Verizon coverage. One thing they can't help is the pervasive smell of natural gas from all the oil rigs in area. Some significant road noise at night too. Due to water problems, I would not want to stay here more than 1-2 nights. We camped at Carlsbad KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Grocery shopping at very nice, newly renovated Albertson's in Carlsbad. Guadalupe Mountain Brewing Company in town also good beer and food. Long drive (15-20 minutes) from town of Carlsbad, and even further to the two National Parks.

Overall Rating:

This KOA seems a little above average for a typical KOA. It's fine for an overnight stay. All utilities worked well and the cable feed was good. Fairly good WiFi coverage in the campground, but the internet service was very poor. Interior roads and site parking is gravel. The roads are wide and easy to navigate. The sites are flat and level. Some sites have a brick patio (for a higher price). Site spacing is generous compared to most private CGs, with a little grass (15'?) between sites. The basic site is equipped with a picnic table and firepit. The 24 hour laundry room is modern and the equipment seemed to be in good working order. There are an adequate number of washers and dryers. There is road noise noticeable when sitting outside, but not loud enough to be objectionable. Security seems good and the CG appears to be in a safe area. We camped at Carlsbad KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The campground has a "part-time" restaurant and can deliver items from a limited menu to your campsite in the evening. Although convenient, the food is not very good.

This is a fairly new large campground with ample room between sites. Most are pull thru w/full hookups. Water and electric were good and it was easy to make all hookups. We were guided to our site and when I mentioned going to the caverns the guide went and got us some information. The only disappointment was the wifi. It was spotty at best at our site and we were right next to an antenna. We did have better luck in the meeting room. But when the park filled we gave up trying until we were in town. I believe a large new park like this needs to provide an adequate system. We camped at Carlsbad KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Dusty gravel sites and roads. Wi-fi wasn't working. There a lot of other RV parks that have sprung up in the area to accommodate the oil field service workers and they are to be avoided. They are crowded and cater to long terms stays. This park, in my opinion, is the best in the area, but, it is 45 minutes from the caverns. They lead us to our site. We camped at Carlsbad KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If you plan to take a guided tour of the caverns (you can visit the main big room on your own). make an advance reservation. The restaurant in the visitor center features local SW cuisine with fresh ingredients. Avoid at all costs route 285 between I-10. I-20 and Carlsbad. This is the worst road I've ever been on. Its been beaten to a pulp by heavy traffic from trucks servicing the oil fields and is under construction to boot (in late June 2019).

The roads and sites are gravel, but level. The staff was friendly and helpful. The sites were not congested like most parks. The pool was nice. The water, sewer, electric and cable were great. The wi-fi was good. The laundry was very nice. Over-all nice park and would definitely stay there again. We camped at Carlsbad KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Visited Carlsbad caverns. It is about 40 miles from the KOA. In my opinion there was nothing better and any closer to the National Park. The Living Desert State Park was nice, it was more like a zoo, but nice.

A real, real nice park for the area. There was very little shade, but we did have a patio with a swing. The sight was level and plenty of room. Our site had two sewer connection which could be nice for someone that has to run two separate hoses. There is food to be ordered from the main store. It was nice to be able to not worry about cooking or going some where after we got set up. But be warned this wasn’t the best food. It cost us about 75.00 for three adults and two kids. But it was handy them delivering it to site. We camped at Carlsbad KOA in a Travel Trailer.

This was a convenient location with equally good utilities. The park is easy to get into, is big rig friendly, and the sites are mostly level. The laundry was small but the cost was beyond fair. Even though a main road was close, by nightfall there was very little traffic... and the night sky was unhindered by city lights. We would definitely stay here again. The cost shown is based upon a weekly rate. We camped at Carlsbad KOA in a Motorhome.

Make time to visit the Chihuahuan Desert Research Center up toward Fort Davis - especially the cactus greenhouse. Fort Davis is also very well done.

Very roomy site (Deluxe Patio Site) with ample amenities and convenient utility connections. All gravel sites and roadways made it a challenge to ride my bike through the park. We spent three days here and the windstorms kicked up much dust! Overall a great (pre-Roswell) holdover spot! We camped at Carlsbad KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Must see #1- Sitting Bull Falls National Park ($5 entry per person) is about an hour away from the RV Park and it is awesome. Easily accessed via a paved walkway with railing. Must see #2- ($5) Living Desert Zoo & Gardens (situated above Carlsbad on the hill). Must eat #1 - breakfast at Blue House in town..awesome food, very courteous and accommodating employees. Must eat #2 - Try the free-delivery BBQ at Carlsbad KOA. You wont be sorry.

Carlsbad, NM - March 2019 - Carlsbad KOA - $49.00/night for full hookups. There are a ton of RV parks around here, but this is the best I have seen. This KOA is located between Carlsbad and Artesia, very near the Brantley Lake State Park. You won't be far from everything you need and everywhere you will want to go. Our site was plenty long for our RV and our Jeep. It came with a fire pit and a picnic table. The park is large, with wide roads, wide sites, and plenty of amenities. There are multiple bath houses, a nice playground, dog park area, and more. The office has a nicely stocked store and you can order dinner and have it delivered to your site - BBQ and pizza are good options. You can always took a short road trip to Roswell if you want to eat at the UFO themed McDonald's. We camped at Carlsbad KOA in a Motorhome.

Not so standard KOA in that the sites are much larger than most. They also have BBQ and Pizza available for delivery each night. Nice long sites on crushed rock. Wifi was usable for us and we had a great Verizon signal. No issues setting up the satellite. Utilities all worked but with low water pressure. Two dog runs. Very quick and easy check in process. Personal friendly and helpful. Hookups quickly completed. No Wi-Fi unless you went to the office area. Satellite friendly. Verizon worked well. About 12 miles from Carlsbad town and about 45 miles to the Caverns. About a hour away from Roswell. This is one of the cleanest parks we've ever stayed in. After each unit departed someone came and made sure it was clean. After our next door neighbor left they came and even picked up his cigarette butts. We camped at Carlsbad KOA in a Motorhome.
