The VIEW!!!! Small park with a few monthlies that are very friendly. Sites are gravel with easy hookups. Spotless large restrooms and showers, nice laundry room and a large salt water swimming pool. Spa wiring got struck by lightning earlier this year, but pool is great. Staying for a month and may extend. Not a mega resort, just a clean and friendly campground. - horsefolk

This park is a great place to stay if you like a no rule enforcement park. And lots of dust accompanied by inconsiderate proprietors. Loud racket can be heard at anytime in the early A.M and that does not include the barking dogs that live on the premises. The clubhouse has been renovated with no thought of a fire escape door. Just a few things to consider. My wife and I stayed here for a few weeks and glad it was no longer. - Howdee

We went looking around at different RV parks in the area, and came across this one. Our first thought was "Parking Lot" The sites are very close together, with little to no room to move around, much less park a motor home. When we visited, there was a pit bull running loose without a leash or human in sight, and a lot of the sites looked to not have been picked up in a very long time. The views others describe do not make up for an unkempt and cramped RV park. We decided after seeing that, that we would not stay at Agua Vista. - nutron42

Spacious pull thru spaces. Level with good drainage. Was dry, even after recent snow melt. Bit of a drive off the highway, but well worth it. Very quiet. A real bargain for a full hook up pull thru. Could use a little more signage, but we had no trouble finding it. Will definitely stay here again. - HAPPI KAMPER

Very quiet, dark at night. Well off the highway. - Dave from Indy

Nice place, pleasant, quiet, clean - a bit out of the way. Twisty, hilly road from interstate to the park. Don't trust your GPS, check a map. This place is nowhere near anyplace else, stock up before you come. Passport America discount not available with credit card. - Dave from Indy

We will likely not return. Our goal was to stay hitched-up overnight and we specifically picked this campground because they said they had a site that could accommodate us-our goal was not accomplished. After a very long check-in process, we found the site they assigned to us was already occupied. The only other site they had in their "long pull-thru area" was too short for us. They ultimately found a site that could work, but we needed to unhitch to fit into the site. I would not call this park big rig "friendly", but big rig possible. They advertise 80' long sites, however the defined site area is about 50'-60' [my estimation, based upon pacing out one of their long pull thru sites]. The remaining 20'-30' of these sites is part road/open area-we would be very uncomfortable parking in a number of these sites, being concerned someone might drive into the side of the RV and/or vehicle that extended beyond the 50'-60' defined site area. Sites towards the center of this row are likely "ok", particularly if you have neighbors who are using 80' (i.e., someone will potentially see/hit your neighbor's vehicle/RV before reaching your site). The campground has very pretty views, although there is a large radio tower (or similar structure) in the middle of the campground. The campground was quiet, during our one night stay. - 2FullTimersinaFifth

This park is easy to find and the sites are nice and big. They say "No rig too big". The utilities are easily accessible and the supply a water hose at each site. The internal road and nice level sites are gravel but have a nice big concrete patio and picnic table. The sites are clean and tidy and are on a few different levels of the mountainside. The only complaint is that the WIFI is terrible and drops off constantly no matter what time of the day or night you use it. The office staff are wonderful. We camped in a Travel Trailer. - KiwiYankee
Jul 2017 - $46.00
Beware of bait and switch tactics used by management here to get you in the door.As for the RV park, the spots are mostly big enough for large vehicles with out disconnecting, while the smaller spots are mostly full timers.I would not recommend the area for extended stays, maybe a week at most as decent shopping is scarce and the water is bad.Be sure to have your knee pads if you need to get on the ground as the gravel is hard on knees. - Booneyrat

We stayed at Monticello South. This is without a doubt, our favorite state park in New Mexico. Nice sized sites. We stayed closer to the lake, so only had 30 amp, but, no problems there, or with water hookups. The hosts at this campground, are very friendly, and keep each site immaculate. While the lake was very low, it made for a very quiet campground with few visitors. We stayed two nights, and were able to listen to the owls and the coyotes in the morning. Will always stay here, when passing through. - mytime2b1
Jul 2010 - $25.00
This campground is the only campground with full hook up located IN the state park. Most sights seem to be taken up by permanent residents so reservations are suggested. There was one large rig site we had to back into, which wasn't the easiest. The woman who runs this campground is very friendly and helpful...even met us out on the road and directed us in since the signage to the sites is lacking. Mostly well kept and monitored with no noise issues. Most convenient to the Dam Site Marina where we rented a boat. No water access except by boat so unless you plan on boating it's not the campsite for you. I would stay here again, if planning to rent a boat otherwise not much else to do. - DLWood

Such a beautiful setting for a State Park. Our sight overlooked what used to be the reservoir. Not hardly any water now, but it was still a breathtaking view out our rear window, and there a beautiful night sky. Most of the sites are very large and well tended to. Only 30 amp, but that was plenty in October with the cooler temps. This park was easy to navigate with our 40' fifth wheel, and the dump station was convenient to use on our way out. Utilities well placed, and a nice table with a protective shelter to shield from the sun. Nice trail in the park to walk our dogs. No problems with stickers here. - fun2travel

Wonderful, inexpensive New Mexico State Park campground on a bluff overlooking Elephant Butte Lake. The campground is a great find as it had very large sites, great views at a price you cannot beat. We went in the early summer which was OK as we had some wind blowing through. Winter, I'm sure, is wonderful at this park. It is a good drive to get to town so pack up before you come. This campsite does not have sewer but does have electric and water. We wanted a site over the lake so we didn't get 50amp. If you need 50amp be careful about the site you pick as there is mixed amps thru the campground. Very peaceful and quiet campground to relax or enjoy the water. - LindaO

This review is for the Lions Beach campground, which has lake view sites. Good, gravel interior roads; spacious, level, back-in sites with paved patio and covered picnic table. The water level was low, so the lake view wasn't real pretty, but we saw bunnies, cute little quail and a road runner. Some sites require reservations, so its best to call and reserve, even in the off-season. We would stay here again. - FranM
Dec 2018 - $4.00
Spaces are close together in Loop B of Lions Beach Campground (the first come - first serve portion of the campground). There is water and 30amp electric with no sewer at each site. There is a dump station on the way out of the state park. Even during off-season there were a lot of campers out. Loved the quail and road runner in the campground! Sites were level (better than at the other nearby campgrounds). - Wandering With Us
Oct 2018 - $14.00
Very nice COE with large sites, covered patio and extra paved parking space. Water and 30 amp power worked well and are positioned in the proper area. Dump station was close by and easy to use. The park was busy but vary quiet at night. We camped here in a 40' motorhome. - illini777

Lodgers and sales taxes add about $6 extra dollars to the rate. Check your receipt for accurate billing. I was in an upper level back in space and I just looked at my receipt and the rate I was charged is for an upper level pull through space, according to the Site Rental Rate Schedule I was given. I should have checked it while I was there. There were pull through sites available directly across from my space but I was directed to a back in space. Rates vary through the year depending on when you stay. I stayed two nights due to high winds on the day I was to leave and park staff accommodated the unexpected extra day. Despite what I believe was a billing error, Park personnel are very nice and helpful. Park is very clean with paved roads on the upper section where I stayed. Spaces are level gravel and the utilities are nicely situated mid site. Some sites were paved concrete but appeared to be occupied by long term. Large beautiful enclosed pool/spa area. Large meeting room across from pool. Restrooms/laundry on both upper and lower levels. Rec room/game room on the lower level. Two dog run areas, one very small and one literally huge. No fire rings or picnic tables at sites. Free wifi (did not use as I have a hot spot) and cable TV although TV requires a cable box available from the office. OTA TV reception was good with several stations. Verizon signal was good. - Bobco

We stayed in a spacious back-in site #126. Only problem is that it was not level and we had some problems leveling up. Utility service and placement was excellent. - Altoflyfisher

This is a very handy park for access to Elephant Butte Lake and the surrounding area. It is well maintained with clean sites and modern utility hook-ups. Streets in this park are paved and the sites are pea-gravel. The site was wide enough to park your boat or truck and still have room for picnic tables. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I needed some assistance with the sewer cap, called the office, and help arrived immediately to resolve the minor issue. I will return to this RV Park. - ABQ Nomads

The hot springs are absolutely sensational! The RV "park" consists of six tightly crammed gravel sites across the street. It's sort of a parking lot. However, the river, a park and downtown are all easy walking distance away. And the hot springs are really, really nice. - whizbang

Riverbend is a semi-formal, cultivated hot spring resort on the Rio Grand River. There are about 8 pools all together, of varying temperatures. The pools are kept very clean, with large seating areas adjacent to them, facing the pools and the river. Coffee, tea, ice water and towels are always available for the guests. Because we stayed at one of their RV sites, we had full access to the facilities. The people who greeted us and gave us a short orientation were friendly and welcoming. Using the pools in the evening was especially enjoyable, with magnificent lighting effects all around the bathers. In the morning, coffee was offered as we soaked! The RV sites are across the street from the facility. - Atnt Life Grand
