We have a big rig and access was easy. The water and 30 amp worked well. Very nice site with good views. The vault toilets closest to us were closed and the next closest were WAY far away. There is no bathhouse and the bathhouse at the next campground (where the dump station is) was closed. We would have been stuck if we did not have on board facilities. We camped at Elephant Butte Lake State Park, Lions Beach Campground in a Motorhome.

This review is for the Lions Beach campground, which has lake view sites. Good, gravel interior roads; spacious, level, back-in sites with paved patio and covered picnic table. The water level was low, so the lake view wasn't real pretty, but we saw bunnies, cute little quail and a road runner. Some sites require reservations, so its best to call and reserve, even in the off-season. We would stay here again. We camped at Elephant Butte Lake State Park, Lions Beach Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Spaces are close together in Loop B of Lions Beach Campground (the first come - first serve portion of the campground). There is water and 30amp electric with no sewer at each site. There is a dump station on the way out of the state park. Even during off-season there were a lot of campers out. Loved the quail and road runner in the campground! Sites were level (better than at the other nearby campgrounds). We camped at Elephant Butte Lake State Park, Lions Beach Campground in a Motorhome.

Very nice COE with large sites, covered patio and extra paved parking space. Water and 30 amp power worked well and are positioned in the proper area. Dump station was close by and easy to use. The park was busy but vary quiet at night. We camped here in a 40' motorhome. We camped at Elephant Butte Lake State Park, Lions Beach Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Beautiful Park and well laid out. This was our first time here and if back in the area would definitely stay again. This time of year it is a little cool out and can get windy but from what I have learned that is the southwest in March. They have several areas to park in. First, they have the enhanced sites which include pull-throughs, sewer, water, electric. There is some over the air TV but not much. WIFI, cell service was iffy. They also have boondocking sites closer to the water which I wish I had known about before. Fairly easy access to these sites even for big rigs. Was fun watching the wildlife. Quail, roadrunners, rabbits, and hares. One rabbit visited our site every evening between 4 and 5 pm, comical. Not a lot to do in the area early season but a great place to relax and take some walks. As others have noted good value compared to other government parks in the southwest. Only compaint was a noise issue. One camper in Quail Run played his music really loud. I am not an old crank and actually he played the same music i listen to but from 5 sites away it was still way too loud. Called the "ranger on duty" but all you were able to do was leave a voice message. Never showed up. Finally someone went down and asked him to turn it down. Of course it was repeated every night we were there. Play your music but not everyone wants to hear it on a quiet desert night while looking at the lake and stars. We camped at Elephant Butte Lake State Park, Lions Beach Campground in a Motorhome.

We stayed in Desert Cove loop. First time in this park. Absolutely loved in! This is what a state park should look like. So many places to hike. Beautiful setting, sites nicely spaced. We felt very private. We will be back. We camped at Elephant Butte Lake State Park, Lions Beach Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed 2 days in Lions Beach Loop A. We had a nice view but the sites toward the end had even better views of the lake. Our site was on the path to a boat launch and in front of a speed bump so we had quite a bit of traffic and noise. They had a covered patio with picnic table and fire pit. We were amazed at the campers in their 5th wheel and motorhomes camped right on the beach. They had a special vehicle who could tow you out and back but don't think I would risk my home like that! The lake was very active with boater, jet skiers and day campers. We would definitely stay here again! We camped at Elephant Butte Lake State Park, Lions Beach Campground in a Motorhome.

I loved this state park. There are multiple campgrounds. This review is for the South Monticello campground. I stayed here based on other reviews mentioning the site privacy and quietness of the campground. I was very glad I made that choice. The sites are huge. The campground is immaculate. The hosts/rangers take very good care of the grounds. I saw the host raking sites after people left. There was no trash. The bathrooms were very clean and had nice large showers. It's a quick 15 minute drive to Truth or Consequences for all of your shopping needs. If you want to kick back, enjoy your lake view site and just relax, this is the place. New Mexico state parks in general are really nice and a great value. Another review mentioned bad AT&T signal. They must have recently added a tower because I had a strong 3-4 bars of non boosted AT&T. Verizon was also strong and had good download speeds. Site accessibility (Easy in/out, good signage) - 4 Campground location (Close to TorC) - 4 Nearby amenities (Close to everything) - 5 Site Privacy (No trees but huge sites) - 4 Campground amenities (Super clean, spacious bathrooms. Good showers. Plenty of dumpsters) - 4 Dog friendly (Lots of room for doggies) - 5 Activities (Long hiking/biking trail, nice lake) - 4 Cost ($14/night for 30 amp W/E) - 5 Staff friendliness (Very friendly but not nosy) - 5 Connectivity (Great signal w/out a booster for both AT&T and Verizon. Only 1 major OTA station) - 3 Total rating = 4.3. We camped at Elephant Butte Lake State Park, Lions Beach Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If you have issues with your GPS: Exit 89 off I-25 is what you want. Follow Rock Canyon road all the way to Monticello Rd. I have Garmin RV GPS and it did not have an issue but some other people have mentioned GPS issues. Google maps also shows the right way.

Spent a quiet week in the Lion's Beach A loop in Feb. Nice view of the lake and mountains from that loop and wildlife frolicking in the sand dunes above. The weather was reasonably warm for winter and the park was uncrowded. It is really a beautiful park, well maintained bathrooms & showers and lots of places to explore in the park. This review is for Lions Beach, Loop A. Long, mostly level, roomy sites; plenty of room for our 38-ft. 5th wheel with 4 slides. Would have been nice lake view, if the lake had more water. Park was clean, quiet (in Winter), with plenty of room to walk my dogs. Good paved interior roads and sites. We stay here when visiting family in T or C, and will stay again. I was somewhat less enamored with this place than a lot of the previous posters. You have to pay the attendant on the way in without getting to see the place. I chose an E & W site and was told to take "any open site" in the Desert Cove or Quail Run areas. In October, these sites are first come first served as opposed to Lion's Beach which were apparently all reserved. After we paid and drove to the sites, we found only two sites available at 2:30 p.m. on a Friday in October. There was a reason these two were available too...they were terrible sites. It took us five tries to position our truck camper on the site we chose so that the driver's side slide could open without hitting either the bushes or the utility hookups and the camper door on the other side could swing open without hitting the roof of the picnic table shelter. Also, the site was very unlevel. The sites here vary widely. Some are huge and others, like ours, are so narrow as to be almost unusable if you have anything more than a van or small camper without slides. Also, almost all of the sites look very unlevel. If I had known this coming in, I would've saved $4 a day and gotten one of the wonderful no hookup sites overlooking the lake. Still, for $14/day, the place is a bargain especially if you can get there when there is a good choice of sites. The camping area itself is attractive with lots of quail running around. The wi-fi was down and wouldn't be fixed for three weeks per the reader board at the entrance. Verizon signal was strong, though. Didn't use the restrooms/shower, but they looked clean and bright and nice enough. If I came back here, I would look first at the other camping area at Monticello Point. Sounds a lot better from the reviews. We camped at Elephant Butte Lake State Park, Lions Beach Campground in a Truck Camper.

We stay at Lions Beach, loop C. It was a wonderful site, paved, water & 30amp electric. The site was large, clean, with a great view of the water and beach area. The picnic table was covered, Also there was a firepit. We enjoyed sitting outside and watching the birds and rabbits. We took a walk down to the water, the lake appeared clean and many were utilizing the water, it made us wishing for a boat. Our dogs loved snooping the area, taking in the sites. We will return.
