Nice quiet National Forest campground overlooking Lake Roberts with some water and electric hookups. There is a dump station. The host was very helpful and gave us information about the Gila Cave Dwellings National Monument nearby. The surrounding area is heavily forested and there was a prescribed burn taking place which caused smoke in the campground when we were there. There is a path down to the lake from the campground. We camped at Mesa Campground USFS in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Drive up Hwy 35 and 15 to Gila Cave Dwellings National Monument and take a 1 hour loop hike to see the cave dwellings. Avoid Hwy 15 if you are driving a big rig - it is very narrow with sharp turns.

Really loved this campground. As others have said the road getting up here (Hwy 35) can be windy, narrow and bumpy but the campground itself is very spacious and big-rig friendly (we're 40-foot and had plenty of room to spare). There are actually 2 campgrounds within 1 mile of each other around Lake Roberts: the lower one is called Upper End and is on level w/ the lake, but no views of it. The upper one is Mesa and is overlooking the lake (and some sites have views of the lake). Sites are large, flat paved with lots of space and separation, picnic table, grill and fire-pit. There's a selection of electric and non-hookup. No showers, but flush toilets are on-site. DUMP station available at Mesa Campground. Lots of nearby hiking and a good base to explore Gila Forest and the Cliff Dwellings. It's almost totally empty during the week, but fills up on the week-end. Overall we loved the place and would definitely come back. (NOTE: NO Verizon coverage here, nor further up at Gila Cliff Dwellings) We camped at Mesa Campground USFS in a Motorhome.

A great campground. Several things to consider. The very windy, narrow roads can be tough to navigate to get to the campground. Remember: there are no pull-through sites with hookups, and there are no showers! Also, the summer months are very overcrowded and can be pretty noisy. The weekends are busy. The weekdays are best from September to early December, and February to early May. We camped at Mesa Campground USFS in a Travel Trailer.
