This is an older but still nice state park. Sites might be a little tight for larger rigs, but we had no problem. Sites are fairly close together, but there are lots of trees in the campground. It's a lovely spot and we had a nice view of the lake. Restrooms could be cleaner, but not the worst we've seen. We camped at Navajo Lake State Park, Pine Main Campground in a Truck Camper.

Restrooms had not been cleaned for quite a while, we stayed 5 nights and the same trash was on the floor the whole time. There is a need to do a general clean-up. Cigarette butts were not hard to find. A group came in one night, we woke up with 5 tents on our site. The park is nice with great views of the lake. The terrain is beautiful around the park. The San Juan river flows out of the lake with spectacular trout fishing. We camped at Navajo Lake State Park, Pine Main Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Nicest RV park close to the San Juan River and fly fishing. Full service marine with boat rentals and a swimming beach when the water is up. Very limited number of full hook up sites (6). Used all my blocks to level the trailer and I have a bunch. We camped at Navajo Lake State Park, Pine Main Campground in a Travel Trailer.

The grocery store in Dulce is well stocked and reasonably priced. Also, try the Chinese restaurant in Dulce.

Park has visitor center and entry portals, but they don't appear to be manned on weekends. Also the campground has a Camp Host but wasn't available during our stay and hadn't been seen by others in the park. As a matter of fact, since we were across from the host, we has several people come over to inquire about assistance. The park is relatively clean, with the exception of the Camp Host's spot. Most slots are on the smaller side and either won't accommodate larger motor Homes, or don't have full hookups. We probably won't camp here again. We camped at Navajo Lake State Park, Pine Main Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Campground is quiet and peaceful this early in the year. Decent view to the lake. It looks like the lower loop would be better. Nice playground adjacent if you have kids. A15 is one of the few 40' long full hookup sites here. It was just barely long enough for a 40' motor home. The website points out accurately that the site is in high traffic area, though at this time of year it's pretty minimal. The site is literally right in the fork of the loop road so all traffic going in and out passes close We camped at Navajo Lake State Park, Pine Main Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

It's about half an hour into Aztec for a grocery store. If you take Rt 173 there it's a roller coaster ride - if you stress about no visibility hill crests, there are at least half a dozen of them. Taking the long route is less stressful. El Pescadaro is only 10 minutes away and serves a fantastic stacked enchilada (chile is real NM chile i.e. hot) and pie.

This campground is indeed perched on a bluff over the lake. It is a beautiful drive getting here, and I really enjoyed driving over the dam itself! Not for the faint of heart, however if you dislike heights with dropoffs and without railings! In addition, the lake is gorgeous, although not accessible from the campground. However, there are some negatives. The campground is indeed tight with a lot of scrubby trees that mostly block any view of the lake. They also make it very hard to get into some camping spots. Plus the loop with sites 1-28 is on a fairly steep slope, which meant that I could not get out of my 32' Class C motorhome to check the spot (#12) before backing in uphill. Luckily some neighbors helped me maneuver between the trees on either side and the campsite wooden marker! It was a very tricky backup, especially because sites are small and cars are parked partly on the roadway. One lady had to move her car so I had turning room. Also, the asphalt on the pads is worn and the pads are too narrow with the dirt around them eroded away, with the result that when I stepped off my step, it was a long drop. I used boards to level, but still could not get very level. Same problem with the front cab doors. Ground is also covered with stickers of some sort, which got into my sandals. Overall, this is a pretty location, but the campground needs to be redone and some of the trees close to the entrances of sites removed. Wider and longer pads would help as well. We camped at Navajo Lake State Park, Pine Main Campground in a Motorhome.

The Aztec Ruins National Monument 30 miles away was worth a day trip. There are no grocery stores or services within 30-35 miles so bring what you need and combine shopping with any day trips.

We were looking forward to staying at this State Park campground for a few days. After one overnight, we were glad we only paid for one night. We should of followed our instincts the moment we drove-in, and left. There is so much open space along the lake, but the campground sites are packed into a small and congested area. The campground is situated well above the lake with excellent views. Access to the lake from the campground is difficult. Some sites are level and sufficient for moderate size RV units. Most are not level and nearly all are without spaciousness and privacy from the neighbors. The paved loop roads are narrow and could be a challenge for a big rig. What drove us away was the unexpected crowd and residential living. It was mid-week during October and only a few sites were available. By evening the place was full. Supposedly, there a 14 day limit. Many of the campers looked like they have been on site for many weeks. Many had school age kids and we wondered why they were not in school. The noise level here at night was rather bad. Needless say, we will not return to this place. We camped at Navajo Lake State Park, Pine Main Campground in a Motorhome.

Stayed here five nights and I believe this is the best campgrounds New Mexico has to offer. Very remote, but it's worth the drive. Roads are good, but winding and steep in some places. Spaces are okay for small to moderate RVs, but over 30' may be difficult. My site had a beautiful view of the lake and the Colorado Rockies in the distance. The site was a pull through, but there was a tree in the way so I backed in. This is one of the only New Mexico State Parks that has a dump station and it has two. I will be back. Camped on bluff above the lake. About half the sites can be reserved until November 1st when it is all first come, first served. Many sites can accommodate larger 5th wheels but some are pretty tight to get into. First weekend in October 100% full with fishermen snagging salmon and fishing trout. Several open spots during the week. Visitor center was closed a lot of the time which made it harder to determine which sites were available. There is another state campground a few miles away (Cottonwood) and it was full also during the weekend. We camped at Navajo Lake State Park, Pine Main Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Salmon Ruins near Bloomfield is a county run pueblo. Interesting and not nearly as formal as National Park Service sites.

A beautiful location for a state park. Navajo Dam is frequently used for boaters and anglers and close to the famed San Juan River. The park is relatively clean and the hosts were helpful. The RV sites are not level and are situated on everything from asphalt, dirt, large gravel and golf-ball sizes river rocks. Some sites have shade and others are very exposed. We stayed in a walk-up site that has a great view and electric/water hook ups. The walking "trails" around the park are unmaintained and very rocky. We were disappointed that the sites we not well groomed, yet the price for electric and water is hard to beat. A good place to stop for a short stay. Many scenic sites. None with direct lake access but instead situated on bluff above lake. We camped off season and it was still busy but not too noisy. People are careless with trash especially near marina and boat launch. No receptacles at least while we were there. I would be ashamed to have a state park with that much trash flying around. Of course we picked up what we could. We camped at Navajo Lake State Park, Pine Main Campground in a Truck Camper.

What a great view on the lake! but this is a typical old state park with sites that are not level and very difficult to get into with anything over 25'. Because it was the off season we had our choice of sites and were able to get our 40' MH into a site. The turns were very tight and lots of tree branches. I suggested to the park employee that they trim some of the trees on the sharp turns but it went in one ear and out the other. Good Verizon service and large accommodating dump station. This is a wonderful and beautiful state park. The host was really nice. It is a state park, not a resort; that said it is great for the price. Many of the sites have views of the lake. Lake was accessible from several easy to find trails. The manager of the park was a big help to me, way beyond the call of duty. I enjoyed my stay and can't wait to go back. Overall Rating:

This State park is very popular with residents in the Four Corners area and gets crowded on weekends. It is really geared to boaters and for good reason: the lake is large, beautiful and perfect for watercraft. Folks rave about the fishing too, especially down river from the dam.If one is not a boater or fisher the options for entertainment are limited and the campsites themselves are not really very good. Most are small, unlevel and short and often have awkward access. Little privacy among the sites and dusty. The restrooms/showers were in good shape and maintained satisfactorily. If you like to boat or fish you will love this campground. Otherwise, it is still a good spot to overnight but a bit boring for a longer stay. Remember to make reservations for weekends and busier times and be prepared for a narrow winding and sometimes rough access road from the Pagosa Springs side. We camped at Navajo Lake State Park, Pine Main Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed in the Pines campground of the New Mexico state parks near the Navajo Lake and Dam. As the previous comments mentioned this park is on a hill. The spots are short and narrow. Trees are very close together making parking the rig very difficult. I wouldn't go into this park with any type rig over 28 feet long. The spot was also very hard to find. There are much better parks around the area for the same price with 50 amp and WIFI. We wont go here again. We camped at Navajo Lake State Park, Pine Main Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
