This place has an excellent setting, and would get a rating of '10' based on that alone, but the logistics of the RV park are not well thought out. Hook-ups at three of the sites are on the wrong side and hook-ups at the other two sites are located so that rigs need to be parked out in a car parking area. When we arrived, an RV in space 20 hooked up to space 19's utilities causing us in space 18 to have no hook-ups. We notified the staff, some of which were friendly and some not. The maintenance person told us that we were to share. We were even still charged for a full hook-up even though we were sharing. If the hook-ups were relocated this place would get a 9. We gave it a 5 for the redeeming quality of the mountain setting. - je23dr13
Sep 2009 - $20.00
The folks at Sipapu Lodge who handle the RV site reservations are very friendly and accommodating. But they seem to be clueless as to the problems with the sites. The web site emphasizes snow activities, disc golf and fishing, but shows no pictures of the RV sites. For this reason one has no heads-up of what to expect when considering the campground. Yes, the woods and stream are very nice, but it's difficult to enjoy them for several reasons. There are five sites, crammed into a space that is suitable for only three. Space 20 puts your door right at the back of a rental building, and has no water hookup. All the sites have the hookups on the wrong side; if you're not in a motorhome that can pull in forward, you have to run your electric cable and hoses under the RV and past the front door. We endured a weekend elbow-to-elbow with partying neighbors and five loose dogs who roamed around threatening our dog and digging in the trash. Two of the sites share a fire pit and picnic table; the fire pits are deep steel rings with no ventilation holes, so the fire burns low and smoky. I asked about the advertised Wi-Fi connection, but was told it wasn't working. We made the best of the situation, but won't go back unless the RV sites are completely rebuilt. - nmroadrunner

This is one of several BLM campgrounds in this area. If you need to shower you go down the road to another one. This is an absolutely beautiful area. We were there in September and I imagine it is quite crowded during summer months. They do not take reservations. It is within easy driving distance of Taos. - ryderruns
Jun 2015 - $15.00
This campground is in close proximity to Taos. Though close to the access road, it was quiet and well-kept with level, easily accessible sites. The hosts suggested that we hike the trail that went off from the campground which turned out to be the highlight of our stay for our boys! We suggest not taking 567 north out of the gorge unless you have a truck with 4-wheel drive that can handle a serious climb in gravel (though if you do, the view is spectacular!). - KyKampers
Sep 2013 - $7.00
Truly spectacular Bureau of Land Management (BLM) campground just a short drive south of Taos, New Mexico. Rio Grand River across the street. Spotty cell service and poor Mi-Fi. The nicest BLM campground I have ever seen. We stayed for a week, and I could have easily stayed a month. Long pull-through sites. Rate is based on Access pass. - bingberg

We did not enjoy our stay at this dusty, trashy BLM site. $15 a night gets you an electric/water site with no sewer. Nearest dump is 30 miles away. You pay extra to shower. We had partial shade. Two unhappy campers. Stayed 2 nights; had planned to stay 7 nights. - SemperParatus
Mar 2016 - $15.00
This is a BLM site near the river in the Rio Grande Gorge. In march we were only neighbors with the campground host most of the time. If it rains the park can get a little muddy. - New Mexico Stan
Jul 2015 - $7.00
We were at Rio Bravo campsite, the host was super friendly. We stayed for one week.on the next to the last day I went for a ride on my motorcycle and about 1/4 mile outside my camp a Bighorn sheep jumped across the road in front of me.(AWSOME)if you get a chance go to Rio Bravo. - tootalltootall52688

Sep 2017 - $8.00
Small campground, 8 or 9 sites overall. Possibly 3 to fit rigs over 35' or so. these 3 sites were all pull thrus. Quiet park. Absolutely no cell service. Near road but little traffic. Didn't use showers but are pay, $1 for 4 minutes. About 1/2 mile away is the Pilar campground which has sites more suited to bigger rigs but no shade. - abqnm
Jul 2015 - $8.00
Narrow two lane paved road from highway
Beautiful location
Big rig friendly
Tight corners but OK for 40 footer & toad
Pet Friendly
Right across the street from the Rio Grande
One bar Verizon analog, one bar LTE with antenna. - jor
Oct 2014 - $3.00
The rate, actually $2.50, reflects a 50% Senior Federal Pass discount. This is one of the seven campgrounds within the Rio Grande Lower Gorge (Orilla Verde) BLM recreation area, about 18 miles south of Taos. It is a newly designed Rio Grande del Norte National Monument. Two of the campgrounds, Pilar and Rio Bravo, have water and electrical hook-ups. The others do not. All are gravel, off of a good paved road. A couple of the sites at Arroyo Hondo would accommodate a fairly large RV. There are no hook-ups or water at Arroyo Hondo and there are no dump stations anywhere in the complex. The nearest dump station is in Taos at a commercial campground. You can fill your tanks at one of the other campgrounds but other campers reported that the water was not very good, so you might want to fill your tanks before arriving. The sites at this campground are simple parking spaces, but they do have picnic tables, grills, and tent pads. There is a vault toilet and there is a trash dumpster. A few of the sites have amazing views of the canyon and the river. Satellite is not a problem since there are no trees. We did not have a usable Verizon phone or data signal even with our booster. It is a good place for visiting Taos or Ojo Caliente Hot Springs. We loved our site and would definitely stay here again. - TheJim

Jun 2017 - $26.00
We stayed a month in our 30' travel trailer. The owner is a good dude, but the manager (there day and night) lives in a tent year round on the grounds and is irascible and unruly. We couldn't wait to do our 30 days and leave. The wifi works if you're close to the office. Spots are adequate, 30 amp only, many hookups don't work, and the park is essentially unoccupied. There are 1 - 2 permanent residents and a few construction workers drift in and out. The picture on this listing is NOT of this RV park. This one is a dirt lot. We moved down the road 9 miles to a beautiful BLM public campground with 30A and 50A and water, for half the cost. It's right on the Rio Grande del Norte with big old cottonwoods and showers and who can beat that? - Gman-RV
Oct 2016 - $35.00
This is the third time that we have stayed at this park in the past two years and have not had a bad experience. The first two times that we were here, the park was basically empty. This year there were a number of construction workers working on local projects. All were friendly. They did leave for work early in the morning. There is a mobile home community behind the park which accesses through a road to the side of the office and owner's residence away from the RV sites. There is a chain link fence and visual barrier around the RV Park. We did not feel at all uncomfortable during any of our stays. We never encountered anyone in the park that was not staying there other than RVers coming in to use the dump station after staying on nearby BLM lands. The greatest sources of noise were trucks at the adjacent Shell station and road traffic. The sites are not overly wide, but were wide enough for our slide and awning. There is no dog park. There are two small fenced areas. One is an old playground that the equipment has been abandoned/disabled and the grass not cut. The other is surrounding the horse shoe pits, which were being used during our stay. If pressed about dogs, the owner will allow them in the old playground. We paid $35/night which is the rate listed on the park's website. We found the owner and staff to be friendly and helpful. - trailertraveler
Oct 2016 - $31.00
The sites are 30 amp only, it is really just a gravel lot with some electric risers and sewer connections.. Dog park is over grown with weeds, no lighting, lots of long term construction workers. Night man is a drunk, gets nasty really quickly. Sites so small that a motor home trying to park next to me hit my rear bumper. Only good thing is that showers are clean and plenty of hot water. I will never go back to this place. - Dogfather

Aug 2018 - $45.00
Convenient park just South of Downtown Taos. Site was level with great cell and Satellite coverage. We stayed in a pull through site near the entrance. Pretty close to the neighbors, but the Mountain View's were very cool. Site had propane for sale and we were also able to ride our bikes ~2.5 miles to the town center for a nice dinner. - Davishouse2
Aug 2018 - $18.00
We stayed in a travel trailer (parking length 29') and tow vehicle, which fit easily into the spacious sites. There is nice vegetation separating parking slots, a few trees, and good facilities. This is one of the best rv parks we've stayed in. We're essentially full-timers. It's clean, the staff is attentive and helpful, and it's always clean and neat. What more could you ask for? We did stay on weekly and monthly terms. The park has eliminated monthly rentals on it's non-metered slots, and they don't necessarily tell you about the lower monthly rates that are available. Ask lots of questions to get the lower rates. We notice most campers are staying 1 - 3 nites this year, whereas previously the park was full and many were staying a month or more. This is a great park. It's well gravelled with heavy 2" stone. - Gman-RV
Jul 2018 - $35.00
The park itself is nice but the showers and the WiFi are not. I never expect great WiFi in an RV park, but I do expect better from the showers. The floor was dirty and they had a little stool to put your stuff on that was SHARED between 2 showers! That thing was so small you could barely fit anything on it! We bought propane and it was $2.64 a gallon plus tax so 5 gallons was almost $15. The dog run here is in the desert and there were cactus low to the ground that dogs could easily step on so NO ONE walked their dogs there - and there's a lot of dogs here! - krawz

Sep 2018 - $38.00
A run-down RV park that needs upgrading, but there were not many options this close to Taos. Looks like a junk yard when you drive in but gets a little better once you cross the bridge and enter the park. The office staff was very friendly and helpful. Sites 1 & 2 are just off to the left as you enter and are on a little creek and the most private. We were in site #1 which was plenty big for our 40 ft 5th wheel and truck. No AT&T cell service and the wifi was very weak and spotty. Very low water pressure; had to fill fresh water tank periodically and use the coach's water pump. Too bad it hasn't had any upkeep in years. This could be a beautiful RV park given the surroundings and setting. - Wayne60
Jul 2017 - $38.00
This RV park gets 5/5 stars for the setting. It's nestled in Taos Canyon about 5 miles east of Taos. The canyon is narrow, containing a lovely little "river", lovely rock formations and Hwy 64. The park sits between the river and the rock formations, with the highway on the other side of the river. The traffic noise is minimal, just barely noticeable. Many of the campsites back up to the river so you hear the water running all night long. It is really peaceful. The other sites back up to the rock formations, soaring 50' or more above the campsites. There are many mature trees, giving the sites a lot of nice shade. The park was very quiet, and nice and dark at night. The facilities get 3 stars. The infrastructure is outdated, but mostly worked. Wifi really bogged down in the evening, but was certainly sufficient the rest of the day. Cell service, not the fault of the park, is non-existent. Bathrooms are outdated, but clean. The sites are small, offering a challenge for one's backing-up skills. This park was obviously laid out when most campers were much smaller than today's modern RVs. You would be wise to go check out a site before you accept it as there are some that would be impossible, depending on your rig. Sites had quaint privacy fences between them, giving a feeling of seclusion. - Piperjim
Jul 2017 - $40.00
As mentioned there is no cellular service. The wifi is practically non existent. It is difficult to get into sites with a big rig. One of our fellow travelers who was using 30 amp service could not use an air conditioner without the voltage going too low. The roads are dusty. - SomedayCame

Great views and sunsets. Make a reservation as it is small and intimate. Owners are really friendly and on site always. This is their baby and they treat it and you as such. They have candy in the shop, but this is not really for you as the young Indians come in and they give it to them. - DustyBob
Oct 2018 - $43.00
Monte Bello is intimate (about 2 dozen sites) but the sites are roomy and the views are grand in a great location on the outskirts of Taos. The utility setup in our site was a bit awkward, requiring some long extensions that, perhaps, not everyone carries with them. The men's and women's bathrooms are both one-holers so you could end up waiting a bit. There is a very nice common area for grilling and there is a locked security gate the guests can access with a key code. Wi-Fi was fair. Of course, this is a high desert so there are no trees and both the roads and the sites are hard packed gravel. This is definitely a nice place in a great location with friendly, attentive hands-on owners. - TravelingTrailer
Sep 2018 - $32.00
Only 19 sites and 3 are just E/w. Just outside of Taos with fantastic views. I would have rated a 10 except only one bathroom each for men & women, but it was very nice. Depending on your vehicle you may need longer hose and elec. cord for hookups. - russ1102

Jul 2014 - $25.00
The setting is wonderful and the camp hosts are first rate. The rest is disappointing. The entry is rough. The wifi is inconvenient at best. The restrooms/showers are cramped and dated. Apparently the owners/hosts cannot receive email for the park. Overall this park is in serious decline. Major maintenance is wanting. If you are self contained OK, the utilities are good. It is convenient to Taos and the area. One big plus is you are not packed in, without shade, like other parks in the area. There is some noise from Hwy 64 and more from the road on the west side of the park (in the day). - gumper
Jun 2013 - $30.00
We saw this RV park on our way to Angel Fire, NM. This is a very quaint park with gorgeous views. We enjoyed bird watching & seeing the elk graze in the pasture next to the park. Wonderful friendly camp hosts. We had a very peaceful and relaxing time. Wi-Fi worked great. Great place to stay. We were only able to camp here one night but we will most definitely return. - Happy RVers with 4 legged kids
Jun 2011 - $30.00
Don't go by the website. And good luck making reservations. Called the park 7 times, left 2 messages, and sent an email: got no reply. Park is very old and very rundown. Needs a LOT of care. Benches as well as fire rings were pretty much unusable. Sites not level. Sites were so close together we could not put out our awning without hitting the trailer slide out next to us. Power was pretty weak; breaker kept tripping even though we were not close to 30 amp. Water is good, and good pressure. No cell phone, Wi-Fi was very iffy. Air card did not work either. Setting was pretty and it could be a nice park, with a LOT of work. Even though it says big rig friendly, I would not agree. We will not stay here again. - Native Texan

This was a return visit for us- a two night stay as we travelled north. The spa is even more enjoyable than I recalled. The restaurant is excellent and reasonably priced at breakfast and lunch, a bit pricey at dinner. Check out the spa website and book a massage or other treatment. Entry to the spa is $20 a day but well worth it. We had sites 15, 16 and 17. Shady pull thru's. Try to avoid sites 1 thru 7- very sunny and they face onto a bleak hillside, rather than towards the stream. The park is fixing some new sites up with vintage trailers in them. All sites are water and electric only. There is a dump station. No laundry. - Grants Girl
May 2018 - $40.00
This RV park provides an excellent venue for access to Ojo Caliente Resort & Hot Springs. The sites are primarily wooded and on dirt, nothing elegant. The admission to the Mineral Springs is not included in the RV rate. The Mineral Springs are delightful and well worth a visit. Do not overlook the trail system adjacent to the site if you enjoy hiking. - Tonita
Apr 2018 - $40.00
The major positive factor for this RV park is access to the Ojo Caliente hot springs, although access to the pools is not included in the RV space rental. The RV park itself looks like it was laid out by someone who had no idea of RV requirements. Most of the water/electric hookups are located on the wrong side, so extra long water hoses and electric cords are required. The RV spaces are often difficult to identify. Many spaces are in heavily wooded areas with tight corners for larger rigs. Spaces are basically bare dirt and not level; some had considerable mud holes. Our water hookup had an odd attachment that leaked continually; even after I double-gasketed the connection. The overall park location is great, next to a stream and in the woods for the most part. Off the highway, isolated, quiet. Despite the shortcomings it is a place we will return with our 33-foot Airstream. - Aircats
