Very friendly and helpful staff. We were warned about the bugs by a friend that recommended this campground. Wonderful sunrises and sunsets, we were two rows back on sunset side. We will surely stay here again. We camped at 1000 Islands / Association Island KOA in a Motorhome.

This park is unique. The KOA park occupies an entire small island in Lake Ontario, accessible by a causeway. Water views at most sites. The park is very well maintained and the staff is friendly and helpful. We were at site E03 on the sunset side of the island. Our site was large and grassy, two rows back from the water but elevated so we had a water view. No problems navitaging this park with our 40 foot motor home. This is our second visit, and we'll be back. Love this park. We camped at 1000 Islands / Association Island KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Convenient to Watertown, which has a fantastic farmers market on Wednesday. We had a great meal at the Waterside Bar and Grille in Henderson Harbor. Sackett Harbor is also very quaint and has a great historical park and nice shops and eateries.

This year we unfortunately had to vacate our lake side campsite because of flooding from high water levels and high winds from Lake Ontario. This was a major inconvenience but the office was good about refunding us the difference to an interior site location. This said, betting on the law of averages and re-booked the same lake side site for next year. This is a nicely maintained campground. Clean bathrooms & showers. Sites are tight together but most have good length to accommodate the larger Rv's. Interior roads are pavement, sites are crushed stone which most seemed to be in good shape. Campground is mostly open, flat with some trees about. Our full hookups were in good working order and our site was level. Good signal on our Verizon cell. Camp store was decently stocked. Staff was professional and helpful. Campers/Rvers were respectful. We enjoyed this campground and would certainly return or recommend this place to anyone. We camped at 1000 Islands / Association Island KOA in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed on the sunset side and it was beautiful. Pull in site gave us a great view of the lake. Hook ups convenient, staff very helpful.

Breezy and buggy at times.

The grass could be cut more often but overall a nice spot and we will be back! We camped at 1000 Islands / Association Island KOA in a Motorhome.

I can't understand why this park isn't rated "10" by everyone. The setting is totally unique--the park occupies an entire small island in Lake Ontario. There's a short causeway that connects the island to the mainland. Virtually all the sites have at least some view of the lake; many of them are lakefront. The lakefront sites are "double-sided" so motorhomes can pull in "head first". We're only here for one night on this visit, but we've already reserved a lake-front site for Labor Day weekend. Yes, the premium sites are fairly expensive, but it's hard to imagine how one could have a better view. As they say in real estate--location, location, location! We camped at 1000 Islands / Association Island KOA in a Motorhome.

Have stayed here a few times in the past but not under KOA. Checking went smoothly and quick, however there was 1 thing that concerned me when I was asked to initial my receipt in an area that cited possible fines that could be charged to your account for Park infractions, like tires on grass, garbage left out after hrs. & a 3rd I think about pets. These possible Add-ons just sounded OFF to me. We don't travel with pets and consider ourselves "Good Campers", so I did initial.... but I did not like the implication. This was our 1st time here in the spring and we were very surprised at the number of bugs in attendance. Our entire Motorhome was covered with these {non biting} insects and it was difficult to keep them out of the interior, and not fun to be outside having them in your face. Not sure how long they last.. but I'd definitely ask before returning. Bring all you need because it's a 15 mile trip back to shopping. Also know that there are some great fishing spots along the perimeter of the campground, which also has a boat launch and dock space available. One more negative....bring bug spray. We camped at 1000 Islands / Association Island KOA in a Motorhome.

Red Baron, Thank you for being a great camper! Unfortunately, we live is a society that requires us to enforce rules. Common courtesy is not as common as it once was. We thank you for your kind review. Yes, the mayflies are a challenge in the spring, but fortunately they do not bite, and they go away relatively soon each year. We suggest getting a small fan pointing out your door to keep them out of the motorhome.

We are honored to have you stay with us again in the future. Doc and Sue Shim still own the place, but we have had some change in our management. No longer the "best kept secret", we are drawing a large number of campers nationally. Make sure to reserve early for the waterfront sites. Many of our past guests have been disappointed when trying to book them last minute.

A very pleasant place to take long walks and enjoy the clean air. The facilities are spotless and the staff helpful. Our site was sat friendly. Beautiful setting if you had a lake front site. Otherwise the park is a typical KOA park. Pricey but checking other campgrounds in the area and because of the lake view it probably falls in line. Used the laundry which worked great. $2 a machine for both washer and dryer. Lake smelled along the nature walk because of the green algae. Office staff were great. Verizon worked great. Our first site in the G loop we couldn't get their WiFi but we had to move to the H loop and we got good WiFi service. We camped at 1000 Islands / Association Island KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall the park is nice, the views can't be beat. But I have to say there was just an overall feeling of the facilities being rundown. The dog park is ridiculous, barely big enough for a dog to walk in. But even though at check in I was told there was no off leash place for the dogs to swim, the pet walk is right on a very large no swimming beach and there were off leash dogs enjoying the water every day all day. If your dog is well behaved there isn't an issue and the dogs absolutely loved it. Bring what you need for your stay, closest nice grocery stores and shopping are a 30 minute drive. Skyweb was upgrading the wifi network during our stay. Water pressure and hookups were all good. We camped at 1000 Islands / Association Island KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Dear DoodleMom, thank you for taking the time to review our campgrounds. We have heard that comment many times, and are considering our dog park options. As far as the campground being run down, we are actively looking to improve our infrastructure. Understand we have the challenge of being in that awesome location, and the history of many of our structures.

If you want to see our efforts for renovations, see the before and after images in this article. https://www.newyorkupstate.com/camping/2018/06/from_general_electric_retreat_to_renovated_campround_the_rebirth_of_association.html

We hope on your return visit, you will see improvements. WE are working on the motel, a restaurant, and other options for our guests for 2019.

June 2018. We stayed in H sites that our Montana Rally reserved. The campground is surrounded by the most beautiful views that are visable any where you walk around the campground. The drive into the campground right away gives you the Wow factor. The campground is very well maintained with hard working staff. The friendly staff did over and beyond to make our stay the best experience possible we could not ask for more. They where very accommodating and eager to please. World class fishing available either with a arranged guide or bring your own boat. Thank you KOA for making our MOC fishermen a day to remember! Sites on the water are to die for but our site was 1 street over and water view was visible from our site. Pickleball courts are in the works over the summer. many buildings on site to accommodate group activities. We absolutely loved the campground, staff, and surrounding area. We will definitely return. Just loved it here! We camped at 1000 Islands / Association Island KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Thank you Montana Owners Club for giving us the honor of hosting your Northeast Rally in June. WE are so excited to know you had a wonderful stay on our Island.
The Island has been a labor of love for Doc and Sue Shim, the owners. While they have gone through some rough patches, the Island has made a great recovery from the floods of 2017, and now that the wind is to our backs, we have great plans for the future. We hope to host you all again. Thank you for your kind compliments. We will be sure to tell our staff about your praises.

This is a very picturesque campground. It is off the beaten path. You drive over a land bridge to the island. The road is narrow, but very manageable, and you are escorted to your site. We stayed here for 6 day, and hated to leave. We had site H1, which is a drive in corner lot, with the windshield facing Henderson Harbor, and the curb side facing the marina where all the boat slots are. We had all types of weather doing out stay, and did not have any issues. If I have to complain about something, it would be all the cotton wood trees, blowing all the cotton around. They were shedding so bad, that some area of the campground was covered in cotton wood cotton. It really looked like it snowed. But as long as it was not the site you are on, it was very pretty watching it float around. We loved this campground and were sadden that we did not have more time to stay longer. We camped at 1000 Islands / Association Island KOA in a Motorhome.

Our price reflects the KOA discount and a $50 credit we had earned, applied to our one-week stay. While some of the amenities look aged, everything was clean. This park has a new owner, and he seems to be working diligently to bring it back. Many of the sites had been regraded and elevated, due to flooding the previous year (we heard). The location is wonderful - the whole island is the campground, and many sites are right at the lake shore. Some sites even have two fire rings - one by the rig and one by the lake so you can take your chairs down and enjoy the sunset view. If you're into water sports - kayaking, SUP, etc. - be sure to ask for a site on the leeward side. We joined our friends at their site and enjoyed paddling out to a little island and back. The area is beautiful, and the water is SO clean. You could see fish, and they were good-sized. The season hadn't really started yet, so some of the common areas hadn't yet opened, but there seem to be lots of activities available. The may flies were ridiculous, but the office had a great informational sheet on how they are indicators of good water quality, and some tips on how to manage them. Fans work! We put a fan inside pointed at the door and it kept them out, but they will congregate on the leeward side of whatever they can find. Thank goodness they don't bite, they were just a nuisance. But that's nature! We would love to return to this area, there's so much to see and do. We camped at 1000 Islands / Association Island KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Denise and Glenn, Thank you for the wonderful review. The Ownership has not changed, but we did Hire a New General Manager, and he has really made it his mission to improve the campground. The flooding of 2017 exposed deficiencies in our processes, and we made management changes that have be received very well by new customers, but some of the prior campers are having a difficult time transitioning from the relationship with the prior Management. While we are always thankful for all who have worked for us, we are confident we have made an excellent selection with our current staff. Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback. We look forward to hosting you again the future.
