We were here to visit friends in the area, this campground was the closest, and rather out of the way, to call our site a pull through is a bit of a stretch, you had to drive through an open lot and come through a vacant site to get into ours, had the back sites been occupied, we wouldn't have been able to "pull through" with our motor home with dolly & toad. Showers looked dated but were clean and worked well, there was a small store, and arcade, and a playground and pool. Most of this place seems to be occupied by permanents and seasonals . Entrance road and interior roads need serious repair. We had water and electric hookup, no sewer, but there is a dump station ,our site was pretty level. - bukhrn
Jun 2018 - $36.00
We would give this campground a 10 if the WiFi was better. There was no sewer but a dump station and offered weekly dumping with a small fee. The new owner and his family were so friendly and accommodating. Getting there is no easy feat - roads are rough (certainly not their fault). In in Big Rig Meadow, it was quiet, sunny, and relaxing - loved that. We stayed Sunday thru Tuesday; when the weekender pulled out, there were a very few campers left. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. - Beachma
Jul 2017 - $35.00
Great place that is close to Cooperstown and Baseball Hall of Fame. Sites for short stays are basic but level and clean. Lots of permanently parked 5th wheels that are used for weekend getaways from the city, but are neat and tidy. - WayBro

We stayed at Gilbert Lake State Park as a base for exploring the area. Our campsite was in what is considered the Hilltop area of the park. Asked about drinking water when we checked in and was told water spigots were located thought out the campgrounds but to only connect to fill our tank. As a FYI, sites 01 through 08 had spigots located at each site with the remaining campground just scattered throughout. We had site 05 and filled and disconnected as told but later noticed everyone else in sites 01 through 08 stayed connected. Beautiful campground with many historic New York State Civilian Conservation Corps cabins and out buildings. Very nice trail system which allowed opportunity to exercise the dogs. Make sure you have your written proof of rabies inoculation for your dogs which is required before you are allowed to register at ALL NY State Parks. The Hilltop Campground restroom area included a coin washer and dryer. We stayed Friday through Tuesday, and the campground and park were busy Friday night and Saturday but by Sunday afternoon it quieted right down. Would stay at Gilbert Lake SP again and found that part of New York state very charming. The cost was $30.00 per night but we made reservations on line which had a handling charge of $9.00. - M Warner
Jul 2019 - $23.00
I'm going to call this review just an update, since there haven't been any noticeable changes since our visit last year. Once again, we stayed for 10 days over the 4th of July holiday, and once again the park was very quiet with everyone respecting the no fireworks or sparklers rule. We were in one of the few sites again with water on site, and the dual spigots were shared with the neighboring site. The park was very full with several multi-family gatherings on adjoining sites. This is a very popular park with the area locals. Read my previous reviews for more details about this hidden gem. We were told at check-in that next year the rental cabins and half of the Hilltop campsite loop we were on will not be available due to sanitation system upgrades. The desk had no further information about the upgrades, but we're crossing our fingers that it might include some full hookup sites. Or at least a dump station that's closer than the 1-1/2 miles to the existing one... ;) - NYDutch
Jul 2018 - $23.00
Like our previous visits to this park, our back-in site was easily large enough for our 34' coach and toad. We were there for 10 nights including the July 4th holiday, and the park was always quiet at night, with just occasional shouts from kids playing in the central meadow during the day. We were in one of the few with individual water service and 50 am service. This row sits a little higher than the rest of the Hilltop Loop, and the diagonal sites offer a good view down into the main part of the loop. As always here, the restrooms were quite clean, especially the individual family/handicapped restrooms we used. Dish eastern arc satellite reception from our site was tight but doable with our portable dish. The western arc and DirecTV sats were unreachable through the heavy tree cover in that direction. We didn't try over the air TV this time, but I expect the same Utica NBC repeater is still viewable with other networks on sub-channels. AT&T and Verizon cell signals were strong enough and fast enough for streaming using our cell booster/repeater. As others have mentioned, the roads in the park are a bit rough and in need of repaving, but easily negotiable given the low speed limits. The climb up to the Hilltop Loop is steep, but all sizes of RV's seem to manage it ok. Gilbert Lake is one of our favorite NY state parks, and we love taking our granddaughter, her husband, and our great granddaughter for an afternoon picnic and swimming at the lakeside beach. This park would be a 10 with on site sewers. We will definitely be back again! - NYDutch

Booked site 72 & 74, was grateful to get a site last minute as they were almost at full capacity but this site was horrible. Luckily we had 2 (other site for tents) because there was no way to back our 36ft TT in. With help from our friendly neighbors we ended up pulling in sideways and using both sites. Besides the tight and really unlevel site the rest of our stay was wonderful. Waterfront sites looked level. Sites are small and cramped but again, luckily we had 2. Everyone had a blast and I would return and get a waterfront site. - Chriselex
Aug 2016 - $49.00
Older park with few upgrades. Sites are uneven grass and dirt. Our water and electric hookups were 30 feet from the sewer. The cable hookup was another 25 feet back and did not work. Not much room between sites. Lots of things for kids, but we have no kids. Nice pool. 30 minute drive to Cooperstown. - Corninggirl
Aug 2016 - $52.00
We were here a week (in our 42 foot coach) because our grandson was in a tournament in Cooperstown which is about a half hour away. Our hosts were great and very willing to accommodate our needs! This is a rustic campground with grass sites. They had had a lot of rain before we got there and as a result our site over looking the lake had some mud. One of our jacks got stuck between the mud and the jack pad during setup. The manager went above and beyond to get it released! After that everything went smoothly! They have a beautiful pool, boating and fishing on the lake, and tons of activities for kids and families! Verizon cell does not work in the campground, there is no internet and the cable TV was pretty sketchy. But for a family to get away from it all, it's a great place to escape! - Tugboat & Annie

We came here sight unseen like so many of the places we go and everything was AWESOME! The owners and staff were helpful, friendly and accommodating! The sites were awesome from full hookups to tent sites and they have cabins too. Lots of treed sites some very wooded to open sites. Clean bathrooms and laundry and the pride these people feel for this place is VERY evident. 2 baseball fields, fishing ponds, dog area and kids playground. The only negative is the internet service is lacking at the sites, but they do have an "internet cafe" at the office. This was our kind of camping! We are definitely planning a return trip. - Jennie and Kelly M
Aug 2018 - $40.00
Rate is based on weekly charge. Spent a rainy week here with family assembled to watch 12-year-old nephew play in a baseball tournament in Cooperstown. Check in was friendly and courteous, although an escort to our site would have been helpful. Interior roads are gravel with adequate room. Our site was a beautiful wooded, wide pull through with rustic charm (but water and electric only). Verizon service was spotty as was the campground supplied WiFi. No cable tv with some OTA stations available depending on your campsite. Fishing pond, paddle boats, and playground were a hit with nieces and nephews; the pool needed some TLC. Several cabins and two baseball fields for rent seemed well-utilized. Bathrooms were nice and very clean including two shower stalls ($.25 for 6 minutes). Picnic table and fire ring at each site. We had a great time here and would return if we were in the area. - Janau NC
Jul 2015 - $46.00
This is a family campground which runs baseball training camps for kids. There are two baseball fields in the park, one of professional dimensions. We were there to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, about 12 miles from the campground. The access road off Highway 28 starts with a very steep hill and then winds uphill for several miles. Near the top of the hill you turn left at the T and the road gets even smaller with trees impinging on the roadway. It is a short distance but we had to pull over to allow opposing traffic to pass without driving through trees. Once in the park, there is plenty of room to maneuver. Office personnel were very friendly. Our site was located next to some cabins which housed a youth baseball team that was competing in a tournament in town. Parental supervision was lacking, children left trash left on our site and in our fire ring. Noise wasn't a problem, all activity ceased by quiet time. The sewer connections was an 8" tall pipe, gravity flow was not possible. I used our macerator to pump the tanks rather than fight with the 3" hose full of sewage. Wifi was working for us which was good because we were pretty much off the grid for cell phone service. - LivinTheDream

Oct 2019 - $89.00
Park is very rustic, not much space between sites if full, pretty lake with geese - but they honk ALL night long. Sites 1-6 are right near the main road and there's a lot of street noise. Husband & wife run the campground and they were very kind. We came in the off season with the hope of seeing baseball town with less crowds. But, the area is SO rural, there are no uber's or Lyfts to get from the campground to the village of Cooperstown. The recommended taxi company doesnt run on Sundays (and that's our planned day to go sightseeing). So, your own transportation is a must if before Memorial day or after Labor day. Cell service (Verizon) is TERRIBLE. Office staff said there is a Verizon extender in the office, but it did nothing for us. The campground wifi signal was extremely weak. Extra charge for cable - not a great signal, but we had no choice but to make the best of it.
All in all, park was easy to locate, clean and accommodating- just not worth the price in our opinion. Lack of transportation options in the off season with Cooperstown being the draw of the area was extremely disappointing. - Desiree C
May 2019 - $57.00
This is a quiet park off the beaten path. The restrooms are rustic, very rustic yet are flushable. There are two large fishing ponds, but you have to really work at catching fish, they don't bite anything in the water. Most of the sites are back-in. Sites 1-6 were pull-through with full hook ups. You pull into the site and then pull out across the lawn to leave. For it being Memorial Day Weekend the only activities they had was a hayride at dusk. The pool is located across the street, I was told the hours were 11am-7pm but when I went to check it out it the gate was locked with a padlock. Roads were dirt and sites had some gravel pads. They charge extra for cable, I recommend paying for it because we couldn't pick up a radio station or antenna channels. Cell service was very spotty with both AT&T and Verizon, one bar here or there if you were lucky. Wifi was available but it wasn't even good enough to check my email. We had a strong signal, not far from the office, so I don't know what the deal was. - AJay
Jul 2018 - $43.00
Great family campground with lots of activities for the kids. Lots of open grassy areas for kids to run. The bathrooms closest to us were rustic, smaller and no hot water. Site was grass and our site had some shade. Nothing to separate sites so you would know your fellow campers if staying more than a day. Proximity to National Baseball Hall Of Fame was quite good. Park was quiet at night. Real comfortable feel to the park. Staff were great with helpful tips about seeing the Hall Of Fame. - DRKM

We enjoyed our stay at Hartwick Highlands Campground. We stayed in the wooded F sites area of the campground. Considering our site was full hook ups, it was large, level and very wooded with better than average privacy. Noticed most other sites in our area were similar. Roads & sites that we noticed were crushed stone and in good condition. Week signal on our Verizon cell, WiFi was poor which included just outside the office/store. Advertised heated pool was COLD. Campfire wood was green. Bathrooms/showers kept clean. Noticed sites were available for the larger RV's over 40' especially in the non-wooded areas of the campground. Friendly and helpful staff. We enjoyed this campground and would certainly return or recommend this place to anyone. - mdcamping

Rural setting with open and wooded campsites. We stayed in the open section which was on a gentle slope, grassy, and spacious. - User2914
Sep 2017 - $41.00
Stayed 2 nights in a 43' motorhome to visit Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. Easy drive on US-28 from I-88. Better to use Seminary rd. to enter CG instead of Burke Hill Rd. Arrived after 5pm and owner was waiting for us and escorted to site-FHU PT, level, gravel, easy to navigate. Took care of payment next day. Family run CG, very friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful CG with open spaces and wooded areas. Utilities worked well. Lots of room to walk. Great dog park with doogie bags. Small office with essentials. Clean facilities-used washing machines. Pool closed, end of season, CG is seasonal and closes in Oct. When in this area will stay here again. - RTM

First of all, if it rains you will need a 4-wheel drive motorhome or other vehicle to go up the long, steep, curving and winding dirt road to the campground. On a dry, clear day our motorhome and black jeep were covered in dirt and dust so much so that the jeep looked "white." We were shown to a pull-through site that was SO uneven that we could not level, even using all the boards we carried. To make matters worse, people from the row behind us were using our campsite as a path to and from the swimming pool. And our campsite was not wide. After 45 minutes of all this, we determined we could not stay here, even for one night. The owners did give us a refund. Good luck if you have to go up that road to the campground if it's wet. - RV Fun
Jul 2011 - $45.00
After reading the reviews we found this park to be a disappointment. Only one review mentioned that the road in was a little rough. It was much more than that. It is a VERY steep, gravel road, very dusty and it is too difficult for a Big Rig. We didn’t have a choice as there is no place to turn around until you get to the top. The water had a metallic taste and smell and the pressure was low. While the spots are very large and wide they are not anywhere near level. There is no cable TV and only a few spots are open enough to attempt to get satellite TV. They advertise wi-Fi but it is not free. It requires payment to an outside vendor for a daily, weekly or monthly rate only good for one computer and the signal is pretty weak. They seem to be more geared to weekenders and renting out the cabins they have. After 9 years of full timing all over the US we do not feel this is a Big Rig friendly park and it is overpriced for the amenities they provide. We will not be returning. - thelackemanns
Jul 2011 - $35.00
This is the second time we have stayed at this campground. We stayed here because it is close to the AllStar Village that our son played in. We loved being here! The view is beautiful, the owners are top notch, and the location is peaceful. The owners are constantly making improvements. They have added a mini playground area and laundry facilities were being added right when we left. We will camp here again with out any hesitation. Thanks for a great week! - mattnick2

First impressions off putting. Lots of "stuff" laying around and old been-around-the block RVs greet you. This mostly a long term park. The owners were very responsive when making the reservation. They were also friendly and check-in was a breeze. WII FI wasn't mentioned, and it wasn't on the information sheet but it was available and worked sporadically. It had been heavily raining so there was lots of standing water in the interior dirt and gravel roads. Our pull thru 50 amp FHU site had drained fairly well. The site is grass so we were concerned but it wasn't a problem. The site was fairly level with a tilt on the passenger side. There only appears to be 2 50 amp sites. Most of the sites are heavily treed although ours just had one big tree on the passenger side. The park is located on Otego Creek which had tons of water from the rain. They are also directly across Rte 7 from a railroad track. We heard several trains but thankfully no whistles! There is road noise from somewhere although it was pretty quiet at night. There are no over the air channels, and they don't have cable. We didn't try Directv. Verizon was 4g 2 bars. - Free
Sep 2018 - $30.00
Very easy to get around. The owners were wonderful, helpful and very informative. This was our first experience and they helped to make it great. I see other people complained about bathrooms but they were clean except for some dried mud on the floor which could not be helped with the rainfall we have had. - dianeandcharlie
Jul 2018 - $40.00
There are only two 50 amp sites and very few pull through. We were just passing thru and we did get a pull thru but only 30 amp. Fortunately there was a breeze and the temperature wasn't unbearable with just one ac. The seasonal sites are well kept. Not like some parks I've been in. They have a pool, small playground, pavilion, volleyball, basketball, horseshoes. They do sell propane which isn't shown on their site map and we needed to fill up. Friendly staff. The place could use some paint and repair in places but overall it was fine. Small park. WiFi worked but it was slow so I used my Verizon. - Patricia57

Lovely, small NYS campground on Otsego Lake about 8 miles from Cooperstown. The campground was quiet despite being full for the weekend. Many families but everyone quieted down around 9 pm. The sites were spacious and partially shaded. The grass was clipped short and campground crews cleaned each site quickly each morning as units departed. Definitely bring your bikes and kayaks. Nice trails in the park and good kayaking available on the lake. There is a car top boat launch right at the campground. We rode over to visit Hyde Hall up on the hill from the beach and for a separate fee had a nice tour of the home built in 1820s. There is a covered bridge easily accessible by car, foot or bike to see as well. The beach was spacious but the water was muddy and full of weeds blown in from the lake. More squeamish bathers might not want to go for a swim and I did feel the need for a shower afterward. The Lifeguard said it was especially bad due to the 25 mile/hour winds blowing up the lake and pushing in the seaweed. Our Verizon worked well. Our site was rated up to 40 feet and it certainly would handle a 40 footer. Just be careful when booking sites since the campground road is a loop and backing in would be tricky for some sites if you have a large rig. Look up NYS campsite photos and you will find photos from different angles and the roadway to see if the site will work for your rig. Don't try to drive a larger Motor home into Hyde Hall entrance due to 1 lane road and small turn around at the end. Park and either drive your car or take your bike. We plan to visit again since we had a family medical emergency and had to leave early before seeing Cooperstown and enjoying more of the park. - PENNY
May 2019 - $30.00
We reserved site 5 on Reserveamerica, evidently there is a 'glitch' in the system and they were going to put us on site 7 which was too short. The management moved us to site 17 which was great. Opening weekend so park was packed with lots of kids and dogs. Was quiet at night though, rain might have had something to do with that. We might stay here again if in the area. - jtl2

Glimmerglass State Park is on the edge of Otsego Lake, the Glimmerglass Lake of James Fenimore Cooper's "Leatherstocking Tales." The park, and the lake it sits next to are beautiful, in that tree lined, Upstate New York way. The campground is small (39 sites). Sites are spacious, relatively flat, and have electric, gravel pads, picnic tables, fire pits, and barbecues. There's a dump station and water near the entrance. Dumpsters and restrooms are near the center of the campground, but the restrooms are not something I would use by choice. Checkin was typical New York State Park checkin. The woman behind the desk was friendly, and not only showed us where our site was on a map, but told us about activities and hiking trails. Verizon service was fine. AT&T didn't work at all. My main issue with the park was on the weekend. During the week it was quiet and half deserted, but on the weekend, the weekend crowd from the city was there. Lots of screaming kids until late at night. - AnnP

We stayed here for an extended time during an emergency. I cannot say how accommodating these people were. The location worked out well since it is close to Cooperstown. We only used the laundry which was adequate. It's quiet and in a lovely area. This is not a resort. - AZtravler
Aug 2016 - $40.00
We were guided to our site, all sites on grass. We were told after we set up and asked about 50 amp, there were only 2 with 50 amp. We stayed where we were. We had our mail sent here, that as okay, and we received it. We then had our ac thermostat fixed and sent here. We need it to run our ac, but they lost it. We checked with the Post Office and they have GPS
showing it was delivered to the Park. The office is not secure. The roads are awful. - gosee
Aug 2016 - $23.00
The developed part of the park is totally taken up by "full-timers". The overnight guests are relegated to the fields, where there are no roads, we just drove out on the grass. The owner told me they only had one 50 amp site. The bathrooms were clean from what I could tell, but I wouldn't shower in them, they were rudimentary at best. Driving up to the "office" you notice all the clutter and junk that they have lying around the front building. That clutter pretty much extends throughout the park. The WiFi only works in the main office, and since we were parked WAY in the back field, we had to drive to the office for use of the internet. I had no phone service thus couldn't use my AT&T internet, either. I have to say though, that the owners would do ANYTHING they could for you....though the woman was a heavy smoker. It was OK to stay for a couple of nights at the Passport America price, but I would have rated it "poor" for the advertised (no discount) fee. - overogal
