This campground has lots of space and is well maintained. The pads are pretty beat though. We camped at Hickories Park in a Motorhome.

Well maintained county park. FHU with 50 amp in some sites. It's on the river so fishing is available if you want. Large grassy areas. A fenced in dog park too. We camped at Hickories Park in a Motorhome.

No discount rate offered for our 7 night stay. Site 7 is a gravel/grass site located on the pull-through loop that offers 30 amp, water and sewer. The rate for 30 amp electric is $25. We had good Verizon voice and data reception and good DishTV satellite reception. Trains run close to the park and the train horns can be disturbing during the night. Hickories Park is owned by the Town of Owego and is very well maintained. We would stay here again. We camped at Hickories Park in a Motorhome.

We enjoyed a flight of ice cream (six flavors of homemade ice cream) served in a muffin tin at Ice Cream Works. We finished it, but it was a lot of ice cream.

We spent 4 days in pull-thru site #52 that was FHU in full sun. The neighbors were close on the sewer/elec. side with more room on the opposite side with the firepit / picnic table. We then spent a week on FHU site #38 that was huge with some nice shade and lots of grass for the schnauzer to roll in. This is a great park, but it is "first come first served"with no reservations. We've always gotten a campsite, just not always the most desired when arriving on a weekend. We camped at Hickories Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

One of our favorite campgrounds in New York. Cycling lane into the 2 mile distant village of historic Owego makes a trip to the Post Office, restaurants, trendy shops and a great bookstore a pleasure. The annual Strawberry Festival in June is a super time with the streets closed for all the vendor booths and musical acts that take over the village for the weekend.

The daily rate is $30 for a 50 amp, FHU site. The monthly rate is $720 for 28 days ($25.71/day). All sites on the upper level are paved. The pavement is too short and narrow for most Class A motorhomes, but it works. We had good Verizon cell/internet reception and good DishTV satellite reception. Hickories Park is owned by the Town of Owego and is very well maintained. We would stay here again. We camped at Hickories Park in a Motorhome.

This is one of the most beautiful parks we have stayed in, but also the one with the MOST TRAINS, Day and night. The park is owned by the town of Owego and is huge and very well maintained. There is something for everyone here...pavilions, boat ramp, soccer fields, playground, the best dog parks I have ever seen (I don't have a dog) but it was so nice that I had to see it for myself. I called Saturday morning to see if there would be any sites for that night, and, fortunately, a man answered saying he was on his way out for the weekend, but there was one spot left at site 1. He told us what to do for a self check-in. The site had 30 amp, water and sewer and two large trees that we cautiously maneuvered between so our 13'6" high fifth wheel wouldn't damage the roof, etc. The site was paved and nice and shady. The water pressure is very good. No wifi or cable, but Verizon worked well and we got about 6 channels with the antenna. NOW, my only other complaint is there was only one dumpster in the whole HUGE park, and it is nowhere near your way out of the park. You have to go to a dead end road past the dog parks and I would not recommend doing that with your RV attached. No good place to turn it around. We rode our cart around the park looking for the dumpster and could not figure out why it was there. However, since this park has lots of day users, there are signs everywhere saying to carry your trash out. I imagine a dumpster would fill up every day if it was located where it should be. We camped at Hickories Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Go into Owego. It was established in 1787 or near there and is a very quaint place. Lots of shops and restaurants. One restaurant, the Calaboose Cafe is in a former jail across from the courthouse. We ate at something called Original Pizza or something like that on Lake Street. The street had a sign saying "road closed" but a woman in Price Chopper said you could drive down it. It's a quite narrow street, so don't try driving down it with your RV.

This park is in a lovely setting and has a variety of camping options (grass, gravel, blacktop, 30 or 50amp FHUs). We stayed in space #48 (gravel 30amp FHU) in the main camping area. We don't have a dog but enjoyed walking over to the dog park area (where the only trash dumpsters were) almost daily. It's an easy walk (1-mile) to Top's Grocery and several fast food spots, and an easy bike ride (2.5 miles) to town (post office, laundry, etc., etc.) The park has lots of walking paths. It was easy to have mailed forwarded here, and even though the office is only open M-F ~9am-3pm the staff were super helpful. We camped for 2-weeks, and will definitely come back. The downside to our section only was every 2 sites shared a hookup post, which put another rig close to you on one side. On the other hand they are all pull throughs (sites 1 thru 10 and 47 thru 57). We camped at Hickories Park in a Motorhome.

We have stayed here 3 years now, and really like it. It is close to stores, gas, and restaurants. New at the park: New pavement on most of the roads. The Dog Park is now open, and it is a grand one, with 3 separate sections. There is a large fenced area for big dogs, a small fenced area for small dogs, and another area for exercise with hurtles, jumps and all that stuff.

Although there is no WIFI, or cable, there is a McDonalds just out of the park that has free unsecured WIFI. There are many TV stations from the antenna. We like the town of Owego and the park, and stay here every chance we get. We camped at Hickories Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Within 3 miles: there are restaurants, stores and gas. If you need auto service or tires, a good place is KOST Tire and Auto Care which is within a mile of the park.

If you need propane, the local Agway store is off Rt. 96 just north of the overpass, on West Ave., about 5 miles away. They are very reasonable.

On the same road is a laundromat.

Owego has many shops and restaurants.

Very nice city park. We were able to drive around to select a site for our one night stay. We picked #6 and this one has shade at various times of day, but also shared utilities with #5 so our hose and electrical cord are running under the coach. The sewer hookup is in an entirely impractical spot way up front and to the right, so we will use the dump station on our way out. It seems there are many long term campers here. So even on a Thursday in the early afternoon, we didn't have the best selection. I wouldn't recommend showing up at 5 on a Friday expecting to find an open site. The seasonal sites are neat enough but clearly here for the long term. Not sure what the rules are about that. If everyone had their air conditioners running at the same time, I'd be concerned about possible low voltage. Would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Hickories Park in a Motorhome.

No discount rate offered for our 21 night stay. We spent two nights on site 65 and 19 nights on site 41. Site 65 is a grass site located on the lower level near the river and offers 50 amps and water hookup, but no sewer. The rate for 50 amp electric is $30. Site 41 is a paved site located on the outer loop of the upper level that offers 30 amp, water and sewer. The rate for 30 amp electric is $25. Both sites were large, but we preferred site 41. All sites on the upper level are paved, but the pavement is old and too short for many motorhomes or long trailers. We had good Verizon cell/MiFi reception and good satellite reception at site 41. Hickories Park is owned by the Town of Owego and is very well maintained. We would stay here again. We camped at Hickories Park in a Motorhome.

We stopped at this park overnight. We arrived after 3 pm, when the office was closed, but there were pay envelopes to fill out your information and pay with a check or cash. This is a beautiful city operated park. There are both pull thru and back in 30 or 50 amp sites. There is lots of grassy area between the sites and very large grassy common areas. The two bath houses we went into we're very clean. The only problem that we had was in choosing a site. The only map available was at the check in area, and sites are either 30 or 50 amp, so we had to rely on our memory of which ones were which. Also it wasn't immediately clear that the pull thrus shared utility hookups so pull thrus went both ways. It would have been easier had we arrived before 3 pm. But we would definitely stay here again!! We camped at Hickories Park in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

The Hickories Park has 4 or 5 large pavilions, and many, campsites. There are sites that have full hookups, electric, water and sewer, all the way down to primitive tent sites. On some of the sites, the hookups are kind of strange, however they are workable.

Within 3 miles, there are restaurants, stores and gas. The park is close to Rt. 86, (Southern Tier Expressway), but doesn't have excessive noise from it. Unless you are camped by the Susquehanna, in which case, the highway is very close.

It has many pluses: Easy to get to. Fairly level sites, some pull-thru sites, cost; $ 25 a night for 30 amp, $30 a night for 50 amp, close to stores and gas. They have monthly and seasonal rates. There are showers and rest rooms. Kids like to trash them, however they are cleaned every morning and as a rule pretty good.

There is no WIFI, or cable, but there is a McDonald's just out of the park with free unsecured WIFI. There are many TV stations from the antenna.

Minuses:

It is first come, first serve. Get there early if there is anything going on locally.

There is an active railroad close by, and when the trains are westbound, they like to lean on the horn before entering Owego. There is a facility not far from it that builds and tests helicopters, and sometimes they fly over it. If you like helicopters, it's quite a spectacle sometimes. During the summer, there is almost always something going on, from concerts to car shows and craft shows. Owego has a downtown made for walking, with many stores, shops and eateries. There are quite a few places to park. They have a River walk that is very nice.

Bottom line: Nice! We camped at Hickories Park in a Travel Trailer.

Campground is located in a town park that has a lot of local use i.e. picnickers, school outings, dog walkers, joggers, soccer & baseball games, summer concerts, car shows etc. Paved roads with lots of lawn and some shaded sites. Great location on the Susquehanna river near the touristy village of Owego. We were here for the annual Strawberry Festival the third weekend in June which draws upwards of 30,000 people to this small village for lots of live music, strawberry shortcake, wine tasting, fireworks, many food vendors and a general good time. A note of caution to people considering a long term stay is a monthly rate is for 28 days. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Hickories Park in a Motorhome.

Rate is for 30 amp full hookup site, includes sewer. 50 amp site is $30. Discounts available for monthly or seasonal stays (30 amp is $600 per month). Many nice sites, mostly level. A few sites will flood during heavy rain storms. At some sites the fresh water connections can be quite a distance from the pad - 50' or more. The 30 amp pull-through sites alternate pull through direction; therefore your entrance door faces your neighbor's entrance door. Campground is located in a large public park and is near the park's amphitheater. There is a weekly concert in the park during July/August. This is a pleasant campground and convenient for short or long term stays. We will stay here again. We camped at Hickories Park in a Motorhome.
