We stayed here on our encounter to Maine and on the return trip as well. It's a nice park and relatively easy to get to from Interstate 90 at least with a Class C. The campsites are relatively secluded from each other. The two issues we had were some of the water faucets were not working and there were no trash disposal bins that we could find. There are no sewer hookups but they have a dump station with a trash bin but it is a distance from the camping area. TV reception was very good as you are just a few miles from Albany. Some sites were pull through. There is a boat ramp at the park which puts you on the Hudson River. We found the park receptionist very helpful. We camped at Schodack Island State Park in a Motorhome.

This state park offers very large, very private, beautifully treed sites. The entire park is very clean and attractively maintained. The hiking/biking trails are maintained . There are tent pavilions away from the campsites that are used as outside venues for events and there is a boat launch ramp. We will definitely return whenever passing through that area. We camped at Schodack Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Nice park on a peninsula next to the Hudson River. Two campground loops, both have plenty of trees. Sites range from mostly sunny to mostly shaded, and they are level. New bathrooms are clean and bright. Push button showers. There are some walking paths, including one along the river adjacent to the boat launch. Pavilions and a playground are in this area. The park is relatively small given the size of the “island”. Most of the land is used to deposit material from dredging the river. We camped at Schodack Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Small, but newer campground with 43 electric sites (30 and 50 amp) and 24 tent sites without hookups. Sites are a mix of pull through and back in spaces comprised of gravel over a dirt base. No sewer or water connections available, although there are several water spigots in the campground. We stayed in site 27, a very long and spacious pull through site which was quite level. Site was easy to get into, but very tight to get out of due to trees. We chose to back out of the site instead rather than risk damage to our rig. Our site also had a water spigot on each end, which was very convenient. Interior roads in the campground loops were paved asphalt and narrow, but navigable. All other roads in the campground including the road leading into the park were also asphalt in poor/fair condition with many large potholes. Bathrooms were new and clean, but there are no laundry facilities on site. Park has a boat launch, boat wash, hiking trails, horseshoes, large playground, basketball court, volleyball and nice day use area. No camp store on site but they do sell firewood, ice and fishing worms which they will deliver to your site. Single dump station that was easy in/out. The park is a bit remote with no grocery stores nearby so you may want to stock up ahead of time. There is a convenience store a few miles away however. Verizon signal was fair and we were able to pick up a decent amount of OTA channels. Price was a bit high for an electric only site. Although we enjoyed our stay, we're not sure if we would return. We camped at Schodack Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a great NY state park.. best i have stayed at. Very well designed. Large spots. Good access to services. The staff is not over bearing. There are free activities going on during the summer. Two negatives I noticed, no towel hooks in showers, water hydrants on the wrong side for my tank fill. All RV sites have electric, we were forced to stay one night in a tent site had to run the generator it was surely disturbing the piece. 20amp at the tent sites would eliminate this. Everything else, stellar. We camped at Schodack Island State Park in a Motorhome.

This was a very nice state park campground next to the Hudson River. The sites are mostly all shaded under trees. We had a pull-through site which was huge! Paved roads were great to ride bikes on. If you have a boat, the boat ramp looked really nice for getting in and out of the river. There is a really nice playground that my kids enjoyed. The bathrooms appeared to be fairly new and were spotless! There is creek access from the campground for kayaking as well. We would stay here again! We camped at Schodack Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Close to Albany, NY and easy access to the Mass turnpike. My parents stayed with us in a 38 foot motorhome and they had no trouble with the roads to the campground.

Park is close to Albany and on the Hudson River. Heavily wooded but received some channels on dish. Only on-site utility is 50 amp electric. Lots of trails. Price was for nonresidents including a $9 reservation premium. Lots of trails. Rangers warned of ticks in the woods. We camped at Schodack Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We were looking for a campground in the general area that would be open in late October to break up a long drive. We're self contained and don't use the facilities except for occasional showers. We stayed here on a weeknight in late October.

This is a very nice campground. The nightly rate with electric is $23 plus $5 non-resident parking. The perimeter sites are relatively large, level, shaded and private while the center sites are pull throughs. Options are for primitive sites or electric only, there's water and a dump station nearby. The push button showers were clean with hot water. There's no wifi. Verizon and ATT coverage was usable. The staff was friendly and helpful. We camped at Schodack Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Rate was $27 plus $5 per day non-resident fee plus a $9 reservation fee. Site was a large, level, pull-through site with 50amp. There was no water or sewer at site, but are available in the park. We had cell and MiFi reception (2-bars). No satellite reception because of the trees, but several OTA channels available. This is a new campground with new paved interior roads and new bath houses. The sites are separated by lots of vegetation. The negative about the site was the sand surface. Our GPS route to the park was via eight miles of narrow and winding roads with many low hanging branches. If we return, I would follow highway 9J south from Rensselaer. We camped at Schodack Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Nice State Park -- Big Rig Friendly.

An attractive state park that recently added a campground that is nicely laid out and maintained. This was the best campground that we located in the greater Albany and Berkshire area that was big rig friendly. Regardless, we were pleasantly surprised by the natural beauty that was retained when developing the campground, but at the same time the mature trees and other plantings were very well trimmed (i.e., big rig friendly). The interior roads are paved and the sites are primarily sand. We camped at Schodack Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Note: RVs that are taller and/or over 10 tons should not take some of the more direct routes to the park from I-90 (e.g., Maple Hill Road, Scott Avenue and other similar roads)-these routes have many low tree branches and 10 ton weight limits. The best route for larger RVs, that we located to date, is traveling solely on US-20/U.S. 9/Columbia Turnpike and NY-9J, between I-90 and Schodack Island State Park. A similarly route to/from the NY State Thruway/87 is on I-787, US-20/U.S. 9/Columbia Turnpike and NY-9J, between the Thruway and Schodack Island State Park.

This is a new park, open this camping season. I was a little apprehensive when approaching the park because of the appearance of area I drove through, however once inside the park I was comfortable with the security and the isolation from the "outside world". This is a new campground; spaces between the sites were cut down for construction and have not yet grown back (large trees were left in place and provide good shade). The sites themselves are dirt/sand, but are reasonably level. We were here when the weather was dry; although most sites have an elevation, they may be muddy when it has been raining - I'm not sure (but concerned) about this. A good layer of gravel would certainly help. The dump station has a water nozzle for cleanup, but does not have a water connection for a black tank flush. The restroom facilities are brand new, clean, well maintained and well laid out. Good hiking trails and playground, a boat launch into the Hudson River and a canoe/kayak launch into Schodack Creek. The campground sells, and will deliver firewood and ice to your site. This is a great campground for anyone visiting Albany. Good cell phone coverage, good terrestrial TV reception (lots of stations) from Albany. I would have rated this campground higher if there were better privacy between sites and if the site preparation were better. We camped at Schodack Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
