Appropriately named, Nelson's Nantahala Hideaway is tucked away on the side of a hill in Topton and is virtually hidden from the highway. None of the traffic was visible or audible to us during our stay there. It was also sparsely populated for the week we spent there. The campground manager, Gray, is refreshingly laid back, well-spoken, and concerned about the campground and the satisfaction of his clients. The bathrooms and showers are clean and modernly furnished. Trash cans were provided at our site and daily trash pickup is provided. We were very satisfied with our stay and plan to return in the near future. - GoneQuackers

This campground is a very unique one, geared toward bikers in an area known for extreme motorcycle fanaticism. The park is mostly made up of small cottages, but there are a few tent sites and only a couple RV sites. It is also on the side of a mountain so you drive up the hill to get to the registration, Although we were in a large class A, I wouldn't consider this park to be friendly towards big rigs. They simply do not have space for them, just one site. Smaller rigs may be accommodated, but call and ask first. The owners are warm, friendly and accommodating, and do their best to make your stay a pleasant one. Great folks. We've stayed there twice. - H42 Sailing
Nov 2016 - $58.00
Odd little campground. It is about five years old and the owner does most of the work himself, making for a very rustic, hand built feeling which is nice in a campground. It is clean and well kept, and his clientele are mostly motorcyclists looking to ride the Cherohala Skyway or the Tail of the Dragon, both nearby. This is not a family friendly campground.
The campground is on the side of a hill, with a mostly paved, concrete drive up, and gravel sites that are level and tiered. Sites were large with good functioning utilities, wifi was excellent at my site across from the office.
Clean bath house, very friendly people, free coffee in the morning, and in a great location to explore the NC side of the Smokies, but a bit pricey for an overnight stay. - Cyclonic

The owners were welcoming and friendly. They also came through frequently checking on everything. The bath house was locked and we were given a key for added security. Beautiful sites either on the river or creek. We will go back. - Sperry78
Jun 2018 - $39.00
No frills private park. Very clean showers and rest rooms that are locked (you get a key at check in). Fire rings at most every site and firewood available for purchase on the honor system, which is nice for an impromptu moment. About 5 pull thru sites available. Other sites are back in. Plenty of tree clearance. I have a 38' 5th wheel that is about 13'4" tall and was fine. Sites are not all very level, some closer then others. Ours was not, but have 6 point leveling so I didn't mind. Wonderfully nice host/owners that were so friendly! Trash bins located by office, didn't see trash pick up, but not a big place so easy to tote there. They are biker friendly, which was nice for us since we were in the area to ride the scenic mountains! No matter what you want to do in area, ask the hosts! They are pretty knowledgeable about the area and neighboring towns! Would totally stay again! - SCDreamer

We were parked close to Valley River, which is on the west side of the park. There's a small branch that goes through the middle of the park. Well shaped, very quiet, it has large area for dog walk. It has a asphalt drive that goes from the entrance to the exit. Paved Streets, we love this park. This is the best park in Murphy NC, bar none. The park is well maintained. We stayed here for six weeks. - Oh Dave

The nicest group of people we have found. The manager and his staff do a wonderful job. Great place to camp right next to a beautiful river. Shown is the monthly rate We will be back. - Zobuzzy
Sep 2017 - $42.00
Probably the nicest KOA we have ever stayed at. This is our second time here but definitely not our last. From the moment you pull in you can tell that the owner takes great pride in this property as the entire park is immaculate. Throughout the day you see the owner working to keep this place beautiful. Yesterday he was up on the roof of the office painting. Today he was cutting grass. It is not very often you see an owner doing that kind of work. The staff is very friendly and professional. I can keep going on and on but you get the point. If you are ever in this area I highly recommend staying here. - Upsdrew
Sep 2016 - $37.00
We spent a week there in our 36 ft. motor-home backed up against a nice stream. We would clearly go back there should we want to stay overnight when traveling through that area or if we were we to again spend time in that general location. No complaints. - Sigurd Hoyer
Oct 2018 - $40.00
Water was rusty the whole time we were there. Two of the employees got kinda “snippy” with a friend. Construction still going on. The management group has some strange and strict rules. Seems that they are not campers themselves, just seat warmers who sit behind a desk all the time. - Cops231

I added a detailed review with pictures on my blog. You can find it here: theadventurousboomer.wordpress.com/valley-river-rv-resort-marble-nc/ Bottom line is this - ignore the old negative reviews. I recommend this RV park. - Greg Hansen

This is our third stay here. We enjoy it every time! The park is very clean and easy to get in and out. Sites are level and concrete with patio and picnic table. Roads are paved. We used a pressure regulator for water but it dropped the pressure so low, we removed it. The pool is completed and is beautiful and inviting. They even have an assist lift for physically challenged people, to assist getting in the pool. Back part of park is still under construction. No issues with sewer or electric and we didn't use the cable. Check in was quick and easy, everyone that works there is nice and pleasant. Laundry room is clean and the machines take credit/debit cards, so you don't have to carry a million quarters! We will be back! - Vicki K

$10 with Senior Pass, but a $9 fee to book online. Unusual for a National Forest, this campground has electrical. Only six RV sites, all back-in, and another 15 tent sites. RV sites were long enough for larger rigs. Access is on paved roads which pass through a private HOA. Last 100 yards or so are unpaved, and roads within campground are also unpaved. Showers were warm, but on a timer which requires you to push a button every 10-30 seconds. Heat lamp in showers, which was very welcome in the cold weather. - OlderGoat

We found WHR as members of Harvest Hosts but scheduled 4 nights (1 free) then extended to a week because it was so nice. A working cattle ranch surrounded by green pastures, flowering trees (springtime), birds and a few other animals-horses, donkeys, goats and a cute barn cat, as well as a really friendly, interesting and helpful owner, we loved this place. Laundry is available for $5 (washer AND dryer together). There is virtually no phone reception but texting is possible and with a booster we got 1-2 bars of AT&T (but no Verizon) Lots of hiking nearby and waterfalls in both GA and TN within 2 hours drive (of incredible scenery) Ingles supermarket minutes away but go to GA to get gas which is way cheaper. We were alone on 1 of the 3 sites on the knoll but even with another 2 RVs, and even without trees for privacy we felt it would have felt as spacious. - edc1951
Jun 2017 - $30.00
Beautiful working cattle ranch. Prime beef for sale in store. 8 total sites, w/e. One dump station...personable owner...would return. Owner seeking workcampers. - spitfirepete

Beautiful quiet working cattle ranch with a farm store that carries grass fed natural beef and local farm products. Electric and power hookups and an onsite dump station. - LostSoulCa
