May 2015 - $42.00
This campground is mainly used by permanent weekend campers although there are a few "nightly sites" available. We stayed there because of it's proximity to attractions in the area. It's a little off the beaten path. The campers here are basically in a parking lot with only 10 feet between sites. Most campers in this park are permanently plumbed into the sewer. This place is like a ghost town during the week, with most campers showing up for the weekend.
The park staff was unusually friendly and helpful.
We probably wont stay here again since we toured the attractions we wanted to see in New Bern. - Bama Camper
Aug 2009 - $47.00
Very friendly and helpful owners - we felt very welcomed here. Interior roads are sand/very fine gravel and in excellent condition. Plenty of maneuvering room for our 40' coach. Some of the campground will have an inch of standing water after a heavy rain, so have waterproof shoes/boots available. The campground, with only about 50 sites, has enough real estate to install another 200 sites! Sites are all back-ins with a nice concrete patio at each. The primary clientele of the campground are seasonals and the primary attraction is fishing and crabbing. As such, there were only about four or five sites available for transients, with the rest occupied by seasonals. None of the sites are right on the river, but it isn't far away and you will enjoy the river-view ambiance. There is a long pier available to sit and ponder, or fish/crab as well as a boat ramp for your use. Campground is very satellite-friendly. We will use this campground again. Campground entrance is N 35.16276, W 76.69325. - John - Tx Hill Country

Wanted to stay along the water, and this was the only park along 17 N (and 15 miles off of that) that we could find heading toward VA. Didn't know what to expect at the end of a gravel drive and no office, but were pleasantly surprised with our reception by the owners' son. Very small area, and we seemed to be the only overnighters, the few other units being permanent. The owners live on-site. Cash only. Sites have green grass. TV reception good, no WIFI, Verizon good. 2 small, shower/restroom combos: 1 for men, 1 for women in back of closed office. Clean and adequate. Nice walk down to the pier and great view of bay and water. This is a very small, quiet and very rustic spot, good for a 1 night stop-over, or more if one were a fisher person and wanted to explore the area. The owners are delightful. There's nothing to do here but sit and relax. We have a 28 ft. motorhome and weren't towing. - Livermorered
May 2017 - $35.00
Nice little campground to overnight before ferry to Ocracoke. Fishing and boat ramp are main attractions. Super friendly people. - soleracamper
Oct 2008 - $30.00
This is a small, but very friendly campground. The owners, Hubert and Christine Pollitt, were extremely helpful, and enjoy being the hosts of this nice little campground. The sites are spaced apart, and while we were there, most were empty (off season), but they are level and have gravel for the vehicles to park on. Paved drives and sites might injure the deer or other animals that visit this remote area. A short walk, and there is a nice dock to fish on, as well as a boat ramp. This is a great area to canoe or kayak. There are tent sites right on the water, with the RV sites about 150-200' away. Some of the original sites don't have sewer hook-up, though several others do. There is a dump station, so it's easy enough to dump as you leave. Shower/toilet is an old Mobile-home, that has been converted. It is about 150' from the nearest site. We used our on-board toilet & shower, so I didn't check them out. This campground is a work in progress, and the owners will go out of their way to help you, as they work to build their property. This may not be for everyone, but we did have a very nice time. We stayed two nights, and would camp here again, if in the area. - PapPappy

The power connections are dangerously close to the ground which would present a hazard during the regular flooding the area gets. The sewer pipe is for the most part unburied and probably not running with the correct slope. The park has many permanent residents here some with extremely run down rigs, attracted no doubt to the great pricing. While nothing bad happened and while the permanent residents are probably very nice it is worth mentioning that this is not a luxury resort experience. But they could request/enforce rig and site cleanliness rules. This year however we got a situation unpleasant enough that we won't come back. The insane sugar ant invasion. Even now days after we left we have found thousands and thousands of ants everywhere. We are fastidious and very clean but unless your food is hermetically sealed these ants will find it. We even found one or two inside the refrigerator! This place has an enormous ant problem and has for over a year based on another review I found. We mentioned it but they didn't seem to care and said they can't control nature. Sure. I get that but you can pave or gravel the sites, you can plant and irrigate grass and you can have regular pest control schedule (once every 3 months, in summer, in NC with rain every day, is NOT often enough to control a bug infestation). They may not be able to control nature but they certainly aren't making any attempt to even try. We won't be back which is a shame because the place IS less than the half the price of local competitors but IMHO no longer worth it. The owner will not call back, or talk to you in person. I was offered $30 for the next time to use. I will not be coming back, and will not spend a dollar of my money here again. I will be leaving this review for people who are seeking a bug-free campground. Avoid this place. Spend your money at another campground with gravel or paved sites. If you hate bugs, don't come here. - Angilica
Feb 2019 - $45.00
This a great little park. The staff and owners were very nice. We found this campground in 2003 when there was hardly anything built they had a couple cabins then. They have come a long way. If there is a problem they get right on it. We stayed for 9 days and really enjoyed it. Other campgrounds in the area are so expensive compared to this campground. We were visiting family but there is a lot to do around the area. We will be back in August 2019 and can't wait. They have a nice indoor pool and hot tub. game room, laundry room, nice showers and some of the nicest rental cabins I have seen. - brenda dale
Aug 2018 - $41.00
Quiet park with friendly staff, but has electrical issues. When our 'neighbor' was home we barely could pull 15 amps for our 50 amp trailer - we went 2 nights without air conditioning and it was hot...thought the 1st night it was a blown GFI plug on our trailer, but fixed it & everything worked fine until 'neighbor' came home. Probably won't stay here again, sorry. If you must stay here try one of their 'cottages'. - Mommajeet

Dec 2017 - $11.00
Basics: power is only available at the sites 20/30/50. Each site has a fire ring picnic table, and lantern pole. Sites are pretty level and all the sites have power except those along the river. The roads are paved and easy to get around on the sites are gravel. There is no wifi but Verizon Mifi and phone works well. The bathrooms look like they get cleaned once a week or so if they need it or not. The showers are pretty lame they only have 2 working showers and the hot water runs out pretty fast with poor pressure. One thing they do here that I could get no good answer for is lock the gate at 5 pm. I heard several people having a rather loud discussion with the host about this. We talked to a lady host who said they don't really lock the gate just shut it. However there was a lock on it that was locked when I looked. This seems to be something they do all over North Carolina but I've never seen them do it this early. A note on the price, it is going to go up in 2018 to $20/day without the senior discount plus the power charge. The host at this CG were giving a 50% discount on power which everywhere else I found they charge the full $7 and gave no discount on that. I can't address the fresh water issue at the dump as we did not use it. This CG is close to New Bern but the closest shopping is in Havelock. The CG has hiking trails, a beach, and is close to many paddling opportunities. It is also only a few miles from Cherry Point Marine Air Station and those folks train most every day so you get to hear the "Sound of Freedom" on a regular basis. On the plus side I did not hear them training in the middle of the night or too early in the morning. We'd stay here again if we're in the area but I'd get the lock in question cleared up before we do. - pumper9x9

Easy access. Back-in sites only for RVs. Tent camping available. Easy access to River and Beach. Electric sites only, water and dump station on premises. Could never find camp hosts available. - The Kettles
Apr 2017 - $13.00
First of all-this campground is known as Flanners Beach. We loved this campground except for one thing...the water situation. For the week we were there there was no fresh water at the dump station (Sites do not have water) and only 1 shower out of 3 available. We saw no evidence that anyone was addressing this issue and by the morning we left, when I went to use the shower the shower head was off the wall and the "shower" was a stream of water that flowed out of the wall. They are push bottom so this involved moving as the pressure changed. However, the shower was clean at all times. There was a hose hooked up outside the bathhouse and numerous spirits located in the campground loop for filling your tank. Bathroom taps have only cold water. The shower water got hot but there is no temp control. The sites were, for the most part, large and private though the ones with river views seemed to be smaller with no privacy. There is a 1 mile paved bike trail that winds around and 3 miles of dirt hiking/biking trails as well. There is a nice beach and day use parking area. A put in for canoes and kayaks is at the north end of the parking lot. - edc1951

Oct 2019 - $55.00
Outstanding campground! We stayed here for our annual Waterway Radio Club picnic this year. The staff and management couldn't have been more cheerful, helpful and accomodating. We had a group of perhaps seven or eight campers in RV's along with fifty or so drive ins. The campground extended the use of their indoor pavillion to us for our meeting and luncheon for which we are very thankful even though the weather couldn't have been more perfect. Our gravel site was "dead nuts" level, and included a patio complete with furnature and a gas BBQ grill. Electric was strong and steady. Water pressure was great. Sewer port clean and accessable with no discernable odor. The Tengonet WiFi was inculuded as was cable TV. Verizon signal in the area was good and strong. We were right on the banks of the Neuse River and the sunsets were beautiful. All in all we had a lovely stay and will definitely return. The facility was a huge hit with our membership in attendance. - Airstreamers
Sep 2019 - $50.00
First Impression: Fresh, new, nice roadside presentation, compliments of Hurricane Florence back in '18. Some sites still being reconstructed. Safety: no concerns. Access: US-17, north out of New Bern, about 4 miles once over the Neuse River, on left. Big KOA sign along with small, brown "camping" sign with an arrow. US-17 in good condition, Garmin GPS is accurate. Office: Friendly staff, nice store with snacks, trinkets, and a RV equipment items. Credit cards accepted. Online reservations available. My price reflects the KOA discount. Facilities: Pool, fishing ponds, no fitness room or rec center. Small, clean laundry room. Nice restrooms/showers, clean, no mold. Propane sales. Playground. Off-leash dog run and dog wash. Campground: In a flood plain (Neuse River and Atlantic Ocean storms). Use rest rooms as storm shelter if not ordered to evacuate. Lightly wooded. Interior roads are narrow gravel in good condition with narrow turns; no overhead obstacles. Big rig friendly and long coaches should not have maneuvering problems. Tent area and cabins available. Pull-through sites are all nearby, level, gravel, pull-through and back-in, nice landscaping. Back-in sites very spacious. Pedestals at middle of site with electric 20/30/50; metered for seasonals. Adequate water pressure with good taste. Sewer pipe is 4" threaded, about 3" above ground level. No patios (except for deluxe sites) but with "ok" picnic tables. Fire rings. Marginal satellite views (trees and nearby RVs). Free cable TV. OTA TV found 14 channels. Free Wi-Fi with good coverage and bandwidth. Verizon phone at 5 bars. Recycle dumpster. Noise: Nearby railroad, no aircraft, notable local traffic, no interstate noise. Bug Report (early October): no insect issues. Runners: CG roads marginal for running (gravel). Yoga: use grass between sites if so inclined. Conclusion: Score 7-Good. - StephenK

Oct 2009 - $20.00
Tough call rating this place, I am giving it a positive rating as we enjoyed our week here. But this place is not for everybody. OK for singles and or couples, would not recommend it for families. As mentioned in other review, self contained units only. It is sort of a fish camp type place, but not bad. A couple of units had guys that showed up on the weekend only to fish. It is located 11 miles south of New Bern off of US-70. $20 a night or $100 for a week, solid 50 amp, water and sewer. Sites were grass, but solid ground and level. We had no problems in this very quiet area and considered it a very good value. The only problem was our Verizon cell phones and broadband were at the edge of reception. They worked, but not great. We would come back if in the area. - Bob and Inga
Oct 2006 - $15.00
This is a campground in progress...its biggest draw is that it is on a tributary to the Neuse River with good fishing. It is at the end of a 3/4 mile dirt road. The airplane noise from the Cherry Point Marine Air Installation could make the motorhome shake, but provides a healthy dose of patriotism. Found no rest rooms...suggest self-contained units only. Felt level site with full-hook-up for the price was a value. - Here4Now

The campground is very neat, clean and well laid out. We walked along the water and spotted dolphins swimming by. Pelicans flew by, too. All hookups worked fine. Our site was a pull through and had a concrete pad with picnic table. There is no WiFi. The laundry had 2 washers and 3 dryers that all worked fine @ $1.50 each. - Melodycthomas

A great place to stay while visiting the Havelock area. The park is several years old, but everything is still like new. The Wi-Fi worked excellent despite the park being filled to capacity. - BounderPounder

Of the nine famcamps we have stayed in (so far) this was the best. Very well maintained, clean, quiet and well laid out. Paved roads (blacktop) and large concrete sites (pull thru and back in). Would definitely stay there again. - Ron N Janice
