Nov 2019 - $45.00
Situated about 9 miles north of downtown Wilmington, this campground is a pleasure to visit. It's located in a suburban with ample shopping, restaurants, and services; yet it is set back far enough from busy Highway 17 to be quiet & pretty. Like some other KOAs, they have campsites for whatever you want - tents, RV back-in, pull-thru, premium pull-thru, standard & deluxe Kamping Kabins. We had a standard pull-thru site and it was easily long enough for a motorhome & toad. All the sites are gravel, but level. The premium pull-thru sites have a large concrete patio, real patio furniture, and even a Weber gas grill. Our standard site had a picnic table and fire ring. The staff were very friendly & helpful. Bath houses were older but clean. Free coffee in the office each morning. The Wifi and internet access were good by Campground standards. Large off the leash dog park. We paid $45/night - a bargain for both location and facilities. We wouldn't hesitate to return. - FurChild Dad
Oct 2019 - $55.00
We have friends in the area so we have visited this KOA several times. Friendly, helpful staff, clean grounds and spacious sites. There is now a snack bar adjacent to the park, which was added recently. Mostly sand roadways and sites, and sites a quite wide, long and level. - DrLewie
Jul 2019 - $105.00
We have stayed here in different types of sites. This time we used the "Patio" site. Yes, it was expensive, but you have a concrete pad and patio, park bench, table with four chairs, gas grill, fire pit, and your own lamppost to provide illumination. Plus nice landscaping at each site. We enjoyed the pool and the dog park, or I should say the dog enjoyed the dog park. This KOA is very well kept. The gas grill was clean, as was the fire pit and the patio was spotless. There are a variety of site types, all at various price points. It is a very enjoyable place to stay. - Captn.Ken

May 2017 - $54.00
This was kind of rustic but more than adequate for an overnight stay. Pricey, at $60/night, but I guess this is a resort area. there were nicer sites with a view of the water, but we were not offered those. Many permanent RVs and trailers and park models scattered around the campground. - MerBee
Apr 2017 - $45.00
This park is more for the long term stays. 90% is permanent campers and very trashy. We got to our spot 185 and there was dog poop everywhere. There is a fire ring that we couldn't use because it was too close to the camper next to us. The play ground is right up front in between two roads with nothing to keep the kids from running in front of a car. Two kids ran out in the road after a rabbit, if someone was coming they would have gotten hit. Lots of kids driving around in golf cart with out any adults around. They do have a pool and pool tables but we didn't want to go. All we wanted to do was leave. So we spent the days running around town and coming back to camp and go to bed. Check out on Sunday and they didn't even ask how our stay was, I'm pretty sure they know. Stay away from this place, it's gross. The thing that got me the most is the dog crap. Lot of dogs there. - Davemotes
Aug 2014 - $45.00
I am so sorry I booked this place over the campground down the road. It's 90% permanent and of those it's about as hick as it gets. The sites aren't even sites really, grassy areas with hookups. And it's LOUD. Shame being right on the water. If you like mullets, old trailers decorated with various patchwork tarps in a CG with sites that are lumpy slots in the grass, and enjoy things like the Saturday night cruising the circuit in golf carts making enough noise so it's hard to sleep, then this is the place for you. If you have ever dreamed of living in a run down trailer park, with all the horrible clichés come to life that come with it, then this is your place. Otherwise book elsewhere. We actually left here and went to the other campground. Easily the worst placed we have ever camped. - Way2Roll

The man at check in was nice. In general the place is in disrepair and needs a good cleaning. Site# 1 was empty while we were there. The laundry was next to site #1. My wife said the washers were disgusting so we went to a laundry mat. The trailer on #3 next to us was old and owned by the park. Two Veterans were renting it and living there. The trailer was in bad repair and covered with tarps. They were nice guys just down on their luck. The bathrooms / showers were disgusting. Probably hadn't been cleaned in many weeks. The soap dispenser was refilled while we were there. My wife said the women's showers had buckets in them with dirty water. An old facility is one thing and we are ok with old. There is no reason for filthy. The pool was empty and full of leaves. Don't know when the last time it was filled. Again the people we had contact with were nice and we didn't feel unsafe. The roads were full of holes so speed bumps were not needed. It was quiet while we were there. I doubt I would ever stay there again. We have a 22 ft. travel trailer. - Dale D
Aug 2016 - $31.00
These are nice people and the campground is convenient to Carolina Beach. It was available and inexpensive. Now for the real review. I was lucky. I have family on the island so I spent most of my time there, not in the campground. The sign says established in 1963 and there haven't been any improvements since. The driveway was potholes with some dirt mixed in. We found our spot which was supposed to be a pull thru. It probably could have been had it not been for the tree on one side and the power pole on the other. I got backed in though from the other side. A bit tight but I made it. Got everything hooked up and of course one of my boys has to use the bathroom almost immediately. He went to wash his hands and the smell of rotten eggs permeated the camper. The water smelled horrible. I talked to another camper there and he was running two charcoal water filters inline with each other to make it bearable. The pool was similar in color to the Olympic Diving pool in Rio, a nice greenish hue. The WiFi was available almost everywhere. I connected to four different access points and got mind blowing speeds just short of 1Mbps. That's more than double what dial-up can provide. The campground is more suited to the permanent residents as there are many on site. If you have somewhere else to shower and brush your teeth, then thus is a good place to hook up and lay your head at night. If you need the campground facilities, go somewhere else. - archerspoon
Apr 2016 - $34.00
It is easy to confuse this campground with the Carolina Beach State Park. There is indeed Wi-Fi over this entire campground. We received a map when checking in which clearly shows 16 hotspots. This is also indicated on their website. The sites are actually quite large and none of them are un-level or sandy. People should really pay closer attention to at least the correct name of the business! Overall it's not a bad place. Very shady, quiet, and close to the water. - Splizz

Second time staying here at one of the full hookup sites. Had to reserve about a year in advance to get FH. Really enjoy this park. Only issue was low water pressure. Like another reviewer, I found it necessary to fill my water tank (which took forever) and run my water pump to get usable pressure. - jrackley

Only stayed for one night. The site we had was nice. The bathhouses were clean. The park was also nice. Staff was very friendly. - Speed Demon
May 2019 - $20.00
We made reservations last fall and we were able to nab a full hook up site. Our site was #10, it is a long and private site. We really enjoyed Wilmington and Fort Fisher Historic site. As of May 2019 the water pressure was so low at our site that we had to fill our tank and use the water pump. Also the sewer hook up was sluggish, if you don't pay attention while dumping you will get a "poop geyser". The quiet hours don't start until 11:00 pm and one site diagonally across from us ran a generator. Open frame construction style generators are allowed here, so the noise can be deafening if you are camping next to them. Verizon cell signal was strong at our site. If you get a chance go see the sunset at the marina. We will come back again. We are also writing a letter to the N.C. State Park system to ask them to adopt the generator rules that the National Park has (limited hours and a 60Db sound limit). Only inverter generators should be allowed... Loud construction generators should be banned in any campground. - wahooo

Sep 2019 - $60.00
First Impression: CG is in town, on the main road. Looks like an ex, used car, corner lot with RVs parked in two rows, one facing a side street, the other facing an alley. Not quite bumper-to-bumper but close. No interior roads. Their (professionally designed) web site paints a pretty picture but reality is different. Looks like mostly seasonals but neat and clean. Safety: No concerns. Access: south on US-421 into "town". Watch for Tru Value hardware, turn to the right on Goldsboro Avenue in about 200 yards. Big sign on the corner. Municipal roads in acceptable condition. Not in Garmin database but entering the address worked. Office: There is no office, just a room in the manager's house at rear of CG. Manager has off-site job so hard to connect. Credit cards accepted. Online reservations not available. No price discounts. Facilities: No facilities. Period. No propane sales, playground, or off-leash dog run. Campground: Not in a flood plain. No storm shelter available. One tree by site #20. Challenging for long trailers. Long coaches will have maneuvering problems. No tent area, yurts, or cabins. Sites are all close, level, grass/dirt/soft-sand, back-in or pull-in, scrub-grass between. Pedestals at middle of site with electric 20/30/50; no meters. Low water pressure with good taste. Sewer pipe is 3" threaded, about 0-4" above ground level. No patios; no picnic tables. Fires not permitted (no room between RVs). Good satellite views. Cable TV needs decoder (250+ channels), get in office. OTA TV found 20 channels. Free Wi-Fi with excellent coverage and usable bandwidth. Verizon phone at 4 bars; 4G at 3 bars. Single-stream, recycle bin. Noise: No railroad, aircraft, local traffic, or interstate noise. Bug Report (late September): No insects noted. Runners: You can run around the block if so inclined. Yoga: use the grass if so inclined. My Opinion: Score 4-Weak. Seriously overpriced. You're paying for the location. - StephenK
Oct 2013 - $40.00
Grass parking lot in typical, mid-level beach resort area. Full hookups, including cable, work well, but there's a fee for Wi-Fi. No restrooms or showers. Spaces are close together, but I've been in tighter parks. Sites are mostly sand and somewhat level. About 3/4 of the spaces are occupied by permanent or seasonal guests. Those we met are friendly. Good location for beach activities, restaurants and grocery shopping. Park is clean, but basic. Not much else in the Wilmington area with hook ups except the KOA which was full. - DrLewie
May 2011 - $35.00
This campground is not much more than a parking lot. It is very conveniently located. The beach and all shopping is easily walkable. However, the campground itself is a grass sites. Bumper to bumper. No trees. You can get Wi-Fi but you pay either by the day or by the week and you pay for each computer that you need access for. If you don't want to spend much time sitting outside your camper, it's fine. It's VERY convenient to the beach and boardwalk. - kvfreeman

We stayed here for ten days in a 32 foot motorhome. The campground is not much more than a parking lot - very tight spaces and ingress/egress travel lanes. All hard-packed sand and some grassy areas. Full hook-ups at Site #9 and only 220 steps to the ocean. The owners were pleasant enough. Fellow campers were mostly polite and even conversational at times. No campfires allowed (Good!). A poorly-attended informal church service offered on Sunday AM - only 9 of us attended, and a musical offering on Saturday evening. The beach was fabulous! Nothing to do here but walk over the dune to the beach - no amenities on-site except friendly folks and 10# bags of ice. - D-S
Jun 2017 - $50.00
Location, Location, Location. That's the big deal for us at this RV Park. It is right on the Atlantic Ocean. A short walk and you are on the beach. The place is old and spaces are tight. Lots of long-term summer residents. Many are fisher people who haul their tackle and gear out to the beach and spend the morning and evening hours. Friendly folk. The lady who checks you in and runs the place is a dear. Showers and toilets are tight and old, but everything works and the water is good and plentiful. Sewer hookup is the rear of your site and was a long run from our RV port. The nice rustic park. - Livermorered
May 2017 - $55.00
This is my second review of this campground as it was our second time staying with them. We love the place so this probably will not be my last review of it either! Surf City Family Campground still isn't a place to visit if you're worried about exclusivity or have issues with folks spending the night in their car/truck in order to get an extra day of fishing in. They do an excellent job of managing the facilities despite the seemingly last-minute nature of a lot of their guests, and anyone I've ever had a conversation with while staying there was more than pleasant. Again, it's not a resort - don't expect it to be. You will be relatively close to your neighbors. You probably won't be having a campfire. But remember, you're not tucked into the woods, you're at the beach, so put on your flip-flops, pack a cooler full of beverages (no glass, please!) and enjoy Topsail Island, its beaches and small-town atmosphere. - PirateMonkey

Monthly rate $750/month, stayed October & November 2019 in 40 ft Tiffin Phaeton in a pull through space. The rate included first $100 of electric use. Nice park, lots of semi-permanent park homes, fifth wheels and travel trailers (all well maintained). Exceptional park Wi-Fi (maybe the best we experienced in a 6,000+ mile cross country trip this year!!). Pool closed for season. No workout facility but a large lounge and TV room if you desire. Lending library of books, tapes and DVDs. Would definitely stay here again if our travels bring us back to this area of the NC Coast. - Rolling Ranch
May 2017 - $50.00
2 night min. 2% extra charge for using a credit card on sales over $100. Site was supposedly 50ft-but our 45ft MH with tow bar spilled over onto the site behind us and our mirrors crept out into the road. Not very inviting site, just a lot, no trees/shade, no patio or table. We were ok with that since we spent our time at our daughters home. Over priced for what it is but less than the other parks nearby. Good Verizon signal. Wifi worked well. About 99% are seasonal/long term sites-everyone was friendly. We'd go back because our daughter lives nearby. - Ramblin-Roll

May 2018 - $15.00
My camp spot was an open field with an electrical outlet next to a stage. the water was a faucet out of the main building (I needed a long hose to fill my camper) and the dump station is a 4 inch high white capped pipe in middle of a field. The bath house with 4 bath shower combo's were filthy (toilets, shower stalls and sinks were dirty) so I went to another RV area with another 4 stall bath house- same condition. I was told there was a bath house in rec hall- they where locked and closed. I went o office to ask when they might have someone clean the bath rooms. she said someone just did. I said I'm the only one camping there and for 3 days Ive been waiting for them to be cleaned. So this guy comes over and said he just restocked them and took trash out. Then he told me I am welcome to a job if I want to clean them. Then the lady behind the counter began to speak to me very rudely like she was blaming me for them being very short staffed. I said I just wanted to take a clean shower- that's all. If you are fully contained and don't need to use their bath house- and don't want to eat at the beach house restaurant or swim in the pool ;because they are ALL closed as well- than you are good to go. I cant believe they think that people would not want clean bathrooms and then get mad at campers for asking why they are never cleaned. I will never stay here again. - mimidavis
