No wasted space here. Units are almost on top of each other. When you're one of the only parks around you can charge what you wish. On the other you'll be met when you arrive and get very polite help in parking. Also the WiFi is very good. If you want a park with all the perks, this isn't it. If you're looking for a place to hang your hat while you explore/enjoy the area this place will serve you well. (Seems a tree was removed from the site we had. Site surface was mostly sand and the coach sank a bit and wouldn't level. I think it's the only site with this problem.) - Motorhome Traveler
Jul 2016 - $40.00
Yes, they honor PA, but only on a limited basis. No weekends or holidays. First night full price, second night half price. They also have a 10% military discount. No Good Sam. Park is very tight and minimally maintained. Office has limited hours. You may have to call when you arrive. You will be met and parked. Located on St Rt 133 by the airport just north of the Coastal Waterway bridge. Little or no noise from the airport.
One significant feature is they have Blazing Fast free WIFI. - CharlieB
Jun 2015 - $22.00
Small park with rigs close together. $22 a night with Passport America. Not a great park if you want to sit outside and kick back, but a great location to visit Wilmington and various beaches. If you are in the very front of the park, there will be some road noise. Friendly and helpful staff. - Nibot

Second time staying here at one of the full hookup sites. Had to reserve about a year in advance to get FH. Really enjoy this park. Only issue was low water pressure. Like another reviewer, I found it necessary to fill my water tank (which took forever) and run my water pump to get usable pressure. - jrackley

Only stayed for one night. The site we had was nice. The bathhouses were clean. The park was also nice. Staff was very friendly. - Speed Demon
May 2019 - $20.00
We made reservations last fall and we were able to nab a full hook up site. Our site was #10, it is a long and private site. We really enjoyed Wilmington and Fort Fisher Historic site. As of May 2019 the water pressure was so low at our site that we had to fill our tank and use the water pump. Also the sewer hook up was sluggish, if you don't pay attention while dumping you will get a "poop geyser". The quiet hours don't start until 11:00 pm and one site diagonally across from us ran a generator. Open frame construction style generators are allowed here, so the noise can be deafening if you are camping next to them. Verizon cell signal was strong at our site. If you get a chance go see the sunset at the marina. We will come back again. We are also writing a letter to the N.C. State Park system to ask them to adopt the generator rules that the National Park has (limited hours and a 60Db sound limit). Only inverter generators should be allowed... Loud construction generators should be banned in any campground. - wahooo

This is a closed Air Force Base converted into a recreation area. NCNG still uses the facility and the Navy and Air Force have some communications towers on the property. Military only park. Convenient to the beach. Cape Fear River on one side and Atlantic Beach on the other. - RickyM
May 2018 - $15.00
My camp spot was an open field with an electrical outlet next to a stage. the water was a faucet out of the main building (I needed a long hose to fill my camper) and the dump station is a 4 inch high white capped pipe in middle of a field. The bath house with 4 bath shower combo's were filthy (toilets, shower stalls and sinks were dirty) so I went to another RV area with another 4 stall bath house- same condition. I was told there was a bath house in rec hall- they where locked and closed. I went o office to ask when they might have someone clean the bath rooms. she said someone just did. I said I'm the only one camping there and for 3 days Ive been waiting for them to be cleaned. So this guy comes over and said he just restocked them and took trash out. Then he told me I am welcome to a job if I want to clean them. Then the lady behind the counter began to speak to me very rudely like she was blaming me for them being very short staffed. I said I just wanted to take a clean shower- that's all. If you are fully contained and don't need to use their bath house- and don't want to eat at the beach house restaurant or swim in the pool ;because they are ALL closed as well- than you are good to go. I cant believe they think that people would not want clean bathrooms and then get mad at campers for asking why they are never cleaned. I will never stay here again. - mimidavis

The man at check in was nice. In general the place is in disrepair and needs a good cleaning. Site# 1 was empty while we were there. The laundry was next to site #1. My wife said the washers were disgusting so we went to a laundry mat. The trailer on #3 next to us was old and owned by the park. Two Veterans were renting it and living there. The trailer was in bad repair and covered with tarps. They were nice guys just down on their luck. The bathrooms / showers were disgusting. Probably hadn't been cleaned in many weeks. The soap dispenser was refilled while we were there. My wife said the women's showers had buckets in them with dirty water. An old facility is one thing and we are ok with old. There is no reason for filthy. The pool was empty and full of leaves. Don't know when the last time it was filled. Again the people we had contact with were nice and we didn't feel unsafe. The roads were full of holes so speed bumps were not needed. It was quiet while we were there. I doubt I would ever stay there again. We have a 22 ft. travel trailer. - Dale D
Aug 2016 - $31.00
These are nice people and the campground is convenient to Carolina Beach. It was available and inexpensive. Now for the real review. I was lucky. I have family on the island so I spent most of my time there, not in the campground. The sign says established in 1963 and there haven't been any improvements since. The driveway was potholes with some dirt mixed in. We found our spot which was supposed to be a pull thru. It probably could have been had it not been for the tree on one side and the power pole on the other. I got backed in though from the other side. A bit tight but I made it. Got everything hooked up and of course one of my boys has to use the bathroom almost immediately. He went to wash his hands and the smell of rotten eggs permeated the camper. The water smelled horrible. I talked to another camper there and he was running two charcoal water filters inline with each other to make it bearable. The pool was similar in color to the Olympic Diving pool in Rio, a nice greenish hue. The WiFi was available almost everywhere. I connected to four different access points and got mind blowing speeds just short of 1Mbps. That's more than double what dial-up can provide. The campground is more suited to the permanent residents as there are many on site. If you have somewhere else to shower and brush your teeth, then thus is a good place to hook up and lay your head at night. If you need the campground facilities, go somewhere else. - archerspoon

It is easy to confuse this campground with the Carolina Beach State Park. There is indeed Wi-Fi over this entire campground. We received a map when checking in which clearly shows 16 hotspots. This is also indicated on their website. The sites are actually quite large and none of them are un-level or sandy. People should really pay closer attention to at least the correct name of the business! Overall it's not a bad place. Very shady, quiet, and close to the water. - Splizz

First Impression: CG is in town, on the main road. Looks like an ex, used car, corner lot with RVs parked in two rows, one facing a side street, the other facing an alley. Not quite bumper-to-bumper but close. No interior roads. Their (professionally designed) web site paints a pretty picture but reality is different. Looks like mostly seasonals but neat and clean. Safety: No concerns. Access: south on US-421 into "town". Watch for Tru Value hardware, turn to the right on Goldsboro Avenue in about 200 yards. Big sign on the corner. Municipal roads in acceptable condition. Not in Garmin database but entering the address worked. Office: There is no office, just a room in the manager's house at rear of CG. Manager has off-site job so hard to connect. Credit cards accepted. Online reservations not available. No price discounts. Facilities: No facilities. Period. No propane sales, playground, or off-leash dog run. Campground: Not in a flood plain. No storm shelter available. One tree by site #20. Challenging for long trailers. Long coaches will have maneuvering problems. No tent area, yurts, or cabins. Sites are all close, level, grass/dirt/soft-sand, back-in or pull-in, scrub-grass between. Pedestals at middle of site with electric 20/30/50; no meters. Low water pressure with good taste. Sewer pipe is 3" threaded, about 0-4" above ground level. No patios; no picnic tables. Fires not permitted (no room between RVs). Good satellite views. Cable TV needs decoder (250+ channels), get in office. OTA TV found 20 channels. Free Wi-Fi with excellent coverage and usable bandwidth. Verizon phone at 4 bars; 4G at 3 bars. Single-stream, recycle bin. Noise: No railroad, aircraft, local traffic, or interstate noise. Bug Report (late September): No insects noted. Runners: You can run around the block if so inclined. Yoga: use the grass if so inclined. My Opinion: Score 4-Weak. Seriously overpriced. You're paying for the location. - StephenK
Oct 2013 - $40.00
Grass parking lot in typical, mid-level beach resort area. Full hookups, including cable, work well, but there's a fee for Wi-Fi. No restrooms or showers. Spaces are close together, but I've been in tighter parks. Sites are mostly sand and somewhat level. About 3/4 of the spaces are occupied by permanent or seasonal guests. Those we met are friendly. Good location for beach activities, restaurants and grocery shopping. Park is clean, but basic. Not much else in the Wilmington area with hook ups except the KOA which was full. - DrLewie
May 2011 - $35.00
This campground is not much more than a parking lot. It is very conveniently located. The beach and all shopping is easily walkable. However, the campground itself is a grass sites. Bumper to bumper. No trees. You can get Wi-Fi but you pay either by the day or by the week and you pay for each computer that you need access for. If you don't want to spend much time sitting outside your camper, it's fine. It's VERY convenient to the beach and boardwalk. - kvfreeman

This park is a work in progress. The owners are super nice and more than accomodating and there are some things about the park that are great...the bath house is fully tiled and roomy. The office/bath house looks to be virtually new. There is a pool under construction that will be available in the spring of 2015. It is only about 2 miles to the beach and there are grocery and other type of stores and restuarants nearby. The campsites are quite roomy and his power is 15/30/50. There are quite a number of what appear to be permanents although they are not globbed up with add-on rooms and all that. The sites are sand (it is the beach) with grass. Most sites have a picnic table. It was raining when we arrived and we sort-of plowed in getting into the site...may have been soft because of the rain..and my coach is very heavy. There is no shrubbery to provide separation between the sites...but the sites are large. The roads in the campground are sand with a smattering of gravel. All in all, the park has good possibilities. Hopefully, the park will continue its improvements because the town really needs a good campground. - Tcamperman

Oct 2017 - $45.00
This campground is only 2 miles from the beach which was nice. We had a premium site and I think it was the only one we could fit on with a 38 ft fifth wheel. However there were tree issues. One tree in particular leaned over lot and we could not put the awning out. I could touch the tree when entering or leaving the camper. There were low limbs going in and out of lot. It was a difficult lot to get into and was not helped by their assistance, would have been easier without their help. No cable but fast internet. The campground is rundown and there seemed to be either power washers or backhoes running during the day. Did not use their facilities and will not be returning. - sammy32

We enjoyed our stay and we would come back. We found it to be a good value. Our spot was shaded from the sun, we found the park to be quiet. The personnel were friendly and accommodating. It's 2 miles from the beach!!!
We would recommend to others. - Proctors
Jul 2016 - $40.00
Park is right on the beach, just the sand dunes separate you from a really good ocean view. The site also has a fishing pier for a small fee. We will diffently go back for the solitude and fishing. The owner does not allow you to reserve site they will give you several site numbers pick what you want first come only. Restaurant on site but limited hours more like a grill great for snacks before going to pier they also sell bait and some tackle. - Bongo204

Very small campground. Needs a lot of updates. If you want to be right on the beach and fish this is it. People are very nice and friendly. Within walking distance there is one store, and one souvenir store. Very small island. Quiet and beautiful. - S-Wright

If you are looking for a beach access this is it, right on the beach. Has a fishing pier all less than a 100 yards from you site. Staff very friendly and owner a very nice gentleman. From talking with people on the beach this is the best place for sea shells. There were people picking up sea shells 24 hours a day. Will be back in the spring with family. - Lewis Myatt

Sep 2016 - $40.00
This campground is tough to rate. The owners are kind and hospitable, and the grounds are clean. Many of the sites are occupied by full time residents. Basically, it's 50 sites for full hook-ups with nothing else. There are no bathrooms, showers, or laundry. Since all we needed was a place to park the RV while at the beach, it worked well. However, I can't see it being a great place for families with young kids needing things to do while at the campground. If heading to Holden or Ocean Isle Beach again, we would consider staying here again. - Roadschool

Oct 2009 - $30.00
This campground is grass sites with nothing fancy. It is close to town and to several beaches. We did not see management the three days we spent here. Everything was done by phone, and they were very pleasant. Campground offers very attractive monthly rates. The grass needed mowing and the interior road had some pot holes but overall a good place to stay. We would stay here again. - Al & Joan

Stay away for this park. The worst campground I have ever visited. This place is a dump. The staff is RUDE!!!!! I see why my family was the only daily renter; most are long term. Will not be back. - Wenrobb
May 2017 - $60.00
We have been camping here for years and always found it charming but what happened! No watercraft allowed? Dogs running loose or tied outside to camper on cables, cars racing up and down street, and I must admit, most violations I witnessed were by permanent residents in rear of campground. Doubt we will ever return. We do NOT recommend this campground as it is! - giezerglide
Jun 2016 - $50.00
Nice park if you have pets. Would have rated the park better if it had cable. Antenna reception is limited at best. Still nice park. - giezerglide
