We originally planned to camp in Lake Powatan National Forest, but there were no sites available. We found Stony Creek RV Park in Campground Reviews. We called ahead & were told that there were a couple of sites available. People we have met in the camping community tend to be very friendly, welcoming people, but I would be hard pressed to find anyone nicer than the owner/operator in Stony Creek. This RV park is full hook up, the sites are gravel, fairly level and is next to Mt. Pisgah. It is a small park and is intended for long term campers who seem to live there and work in the area. The owner said that he caters mostly to long term, or seasonal campers. Our site was recently vacated and the new camper was not arriving for another week. There are no playgrounds, rest rooms, showers, or fire rings. There are picnic tables. We had a running, stony creek behind our campsite. That being said, it was perfectly suited for our needs. e just needed a place to stay while we visited the Asheville and Blur Ridge area. The campsite we stayed in was quite close to the Pisgah Hwy, but it is not heavily traveled with little traffic noise. We camped at Stony Fork Creek RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

The Biltmore Estate was about 11 miles away. Definitely visit the General Store in historic Hendersonville. If you love Bluegrass Music, there are a lot of venues with entertainment 7 days a week in the area!

As a full-time traveler, I have been to many different parks and have had good and bad experiences with management and facilities. This park has been such a great find! The owner, has gone above and beyond to help me settle in to my year-long work assignment in the area and I have never had to second guess if choosing this park was the right decision. As mentioned in the other reviews, you must be self-contained as there are no facilities here but the well water is amazingly clean and there is great water pressure. Most of the traffic running by the park is local or motorcyclists out for a scenic ride in the area, hardly noticeable. There are lots on both sides of the road so as mentioned DO slow down when close. The GPS was very accurate but it will take you to a house about 200 yards in front of the turn, so if you miss it; turning around in a larger rig will be tough. If coming from Candler and staying in lots 7-10, there is a long, brown fence immediately before the turn-in on the right. If in lots 1-6, you will see the trailers and the EXIT to the sites on your left BEFORE you see the ENTRANCE sign ahead. Suburban propane has been amazing and will come out to this location to install a tank if staying long enough to need it, with auto refill services available. The sites are gravel, level enough to just need a few adjustments. There are picnic tables at each site with 30amp,50 amp hook-ups. The grounds are maintained well with a few trees, more on the creekside, that offer some shade. There are several county parks in the Candler area with playgrounds and nature trails so not having these facilities at the site has not been an issue. I do not have dogs, but others in the park do and have never had issues, no unwanted visitors either. So far, it is very peaceful. The owner has been one of the nicest people I have met in my travels and I highly recommend this park, whether for a day or a year as he will go out of his way to make you feel welcomed!! We camped at Stony Fork Creek RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Great rates, but the owner has issues with dogs over 30 pounds and also if you have tattoos. After staying here for three weeks with no issues we were asked to find another place to stay. We even built a fire ring for him, with his permission. In addition, the wifi is useless, Verizon has 1G service, and you can only get 7 TV channels. We camped at Stony Fork Creek RV Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We stayed one week. The weekly rate is $130. With Passport America, it was $125. Other reviewers have done a good job describing this CG. If you're coming from the South on 151, sites 1-6 are on the left and sites 7-10 are on the right. Our GPS was accurate. I recommend arriving during day light. Really slow down early so you have time to see it and make the turn. A turn around spot about .250 mile further is possible but wouldn't be pretty. Not knowing what to expect, we unhooked our toad about 2 miles before arriving at the CG at a vacated fire station on the right side of street. This wasn't necessary as there is room to pull-in and unhook. However we felt the remote lot was easier so we also used it to hook up upon departure. As much as I don't want to say anything negative, there are two things I must mention. 1.) We had a homeless man suddenly appear in our headlights one night as we pulled into our site. It was startling to say the least. Although he was tattooed everywhere including his face, he was polite and asked for a ride to the store (8 miles away). Fortunately another camper at the park graciously put the man and his bags into his truck bed and took him. This helped the guy out and also got him away from the park. It's a reminder to always be aware no matter where you are. 2.) CG wifi did not work well. Normally this isn't a big deal because we have other options but not here. Verizon cell worked enough for voice but not for data so we couldn't hotspot. Our Sprint Mifi had zero signal. When the CG wifi didn't work, it was very frustrating. The owner reset it which helped but only for a half a day. Other than those two things, all hook-ups worked well. We received DirecTV signal. I think sites 7-10 would all receive sat signal. Overall the park is lovely and peaceful and the price was right. Asheville's attractions are an easy drive. Beautiful Pisgah Natl Forest and Blue Ridge Parkway are in your backyard. We enjoyed our time here and would stay again. We camped at Stony Fork Creek RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Biltmore is ridiculously over-priced. For us, we didn't feel it was worth the cost. If you go, spend the extra $10 to get the audio. Check out Asheville's outdoor options which are beautiful and mostly free. Don't miss the Sierra Nevada brewery. It's brand new and fabulous. Make a reservation ahead of time for the free guided tour (they fill up fast). Have coffee at Double D's downtown. It's a fun, red double-decker bus that's been re-purposed into a coffee spot.

Small campground with gravel roads, gravel sites and grass. No toilets or showers, no office, no clubhouse, no laundry. Nothing but a nice place to park with trees and full utilities. Most sites have clean monthly rigs, and there are only a few sites for travelers. Get your site # before arriving and pull in and park. Several traveler sites are across the street from the sign and entrance. Had to loop through and get back on main road, find a U-turn and come back in other entrance. The very nice owner will show up later and check on you. Free secure Wi-Fi and cable TV. Quiet and serene. 10 miles to Ashville. We will return. We camped at Stony Fork Creek RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This park was a great find for us. The owner is most likely the nicest person we have ever met in all of our travels and we would not hesitate to return to this park. The original RV spots are located next to the creek, however, the owner has expanded the park and has added 4 full hookup sites on the opposite side of the road away from the creek. This was not an issue for us as we were not wanting or anticipating a creekside spot but if this is important to you, I would ask, as most of those sites were occupied by long term campers. The park is gravel, we had to level just slightly but this is not uncommon and does not annoy us. As there are no bathhouses, you must be self contained. Not an issue for us either as we always use our own bathroom anyway. Great water pressure! No AT&T cell service in the valley, however, because the Wi-Fi worked great, I was able to connect my Iphone to Wi-Fi and receive phone calls that way. The closest grocery store is approximately 7 miles away, and downtown Asheville was approx. 20-30 minutes away. Overall, a great spot to relax for 10 days while still being close enough to go explore the surrounding areas. We camped at Stony Fork Creek RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

As new full-timers, we were so glad to have found this beautiful little park. The owner is so friendly and helpful, which has made our transition to RV living very pleasant. It is very quiet and peaceful here, especially because of the creek and the fact that it borders the National Forest land. Butterflies, hummingbirds, turtles, etc. The trees that were a problem on the road in have now been trimmed by NCDOT. There are no bathrooms/showers. We have had broadband cable and phone hooked up through the cable company, since we are staying for a few months, and use a Verizon "Net Extender" through the cable to give us cell coverage. Otherwise, there is no wifi or cell coverage out here. We can receive mail here. The sites are ample for our big rig, slides and temporary dog fence area. There is even some landscaping between sites to offer more privacy. Very well maintained. We camped at Stony Fork Creek RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The previous reviews are accurate - this is a nice small park next to a stream that we enjoyed listening to very much. My additional comments are that the interior gravel road was quite out of level, so take it very slow when entering the park. Backing into our site was no problem for our 40' motorhome, with room to spare for the car. But the real issue was that the tree branches on Hwy 151 near the park were now low enough to cause damage to large rigs. The owner was very helpful and sympathetic, and he advised us that he was trying to get them trimmed. However, the fact is that I would hesitate to recommend the park to owners of large rigs with nice paint jobs until this gets resolved. Other than that it was a wonderful place to stay for easy access to the Blue Ridge Parkway and Asheville, if you don't need bath house or laundry room facilities. We camped at Stony Fork Creek RV Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Stony Fork Creek. This six site RV park is nestled in the mountains of the Pisgah National Forest. It sits just off Hwy 151, Pisgah Highway, a lightly traveled scenic road that connects the town of Candler with the Blue Ridge Parkway. A stream borders the back of all sites. All sites are full hookup with 50 amp service. There's sufficient room between sites that you're not crowded. There are no additional amenities offered, but we're self-contained in our 38' motorhome, so don't need a bath house, and the drive to the nearest laundromat is a pretty one. The owner was exceptional - friendly and helpful. There are an abundance of sightseeing and hiking opportunities, some within walking distance, but most a short drive. We will make a point of staying here again, hopefully next fall when colors are again at their peak. One important note: Hwy 151 beyond this campground is not suitable for big rigs - too steep and very tight turns. Hwy 151 leading from Candler to the campground is nice, with the last mile or so narrowing but still suitable for big rigs. We camped at Stony Fork Creek RV Park in a Motorhome.

Price reflects Passport America. This is a jewel of a small RV Park. All hook-ups, clean, plenty of space between RV's. It is very peaceful with the sound of the stream, there is very little road noise. Close enough for nearby attractions. Owner is very nice. We would stay here again if in the area. This RV park is at the foot of Mt. Pisgah with a small stream at the back of the park. The site we selected left room for our 39' 5th wheel and Ford F350. This park has easy access off the main road as well as room to back into the space. There is minimal road noise with the sound of the small stream at the back. There is easy access to all the attractions of the Asheville area. To get to the park from Interstate 40, take exit 44 onto Smoky Park Hwy (Hwy 19/23) and go approx. 5 miles to Hwy 151 (Pisgah Hwy) and travel 7.4 miles to 2149 Pisgah Highway, Candler, N.C. I am surprised there has not been a review of this park.
