On the Cherokee reservation. Great folks running the place. Beautiful primitive campsites. Tent and RV sites. No hookups of any kind. Bathrooms and hot showers available but we didn't use them. Many sites have not really been leveled. Quiet and really nice views. Limited season and it stays pretty well booked up. Not too far off the Blue Ridge Parkway. - kelbro

River Valley Campground in Cherokee NC is the epitome of a naturalistic camp setting. Beautiful entrance and a warm welcome from camp workers who return year-after-year and who are willing to help navigating your rig into a spot if needed. The campground is Cherokee owned, and on tribal lands in a smaller valley with the Raven Fork River flowing strong alongside. One half at the front is catch and release fishing with fly only, and the back half is catch and keep trout fishing; both need a tribal fishing permit which is available at the grocery up the hill. I've been here before, and I can't say how much I love this campground, and I definitely plan on returning again. The campground is located just outside the town of Cherokee, and just outside the southern entrance of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. We had Verizon and had decent cell signal except during peak morning and evening hours. Basic cable is offered with your site. There is a small video game room, but if you are looking for lots of kid and family activities at your campground this is probably not for you. If you want a beautiful, relaxing, low key experience in nature, then this is it! The only downside is the bathroom/shower house. It is an outdated open concept style with small stalls, and although it is quite clean, it is not heated or cooled. - backtobasics

We have stayed here numerous times in 2016 and 2017 and always enjoyed ourselves as well as the surrounding beauty. We had reservations to stay for over a month this coming October of 2019 and ended up cancelling. We needed to change our dates a couple of times due to unforeseen circumstances (having to go to Elkhart IN to have the RV repaired). The office person was very unaccepting of our circumstances and literally argued about not being allowed to change dates. She also didn't like the site that had been assigned to us when we originally made our reservation. Like we had anything to do with that decision. She has a reputation for being rude and uncooperative and most people try to stay away from her - especially those that stay at the park seasonally. Don't get on her bad side or she'll make your life miserable - they say. The park is great. The rules are strict and the office person is the task master. Beware! - jomark

We stayed just one night, but it was just beautiful. Nice shade, rushing of the river next to our camper. It did rain, but it was not muddy. Nice gravel drive for our camper. We would stay again, and again. Very nice picnic tables, not cheap like some. The only negative is better signage in park to get you out. - jsturd

Great park. Lots of shade with easy access to Cherokee. Beautiful stocked trout steam flows through the park with several sites that back up to the stream. Limited pull throughs for large rigs. - Gebber
Jun 2017 - $40.00
A very nice shady spot along a creek/river. Lots of cabins onsite also. Roads were difficult to navigate for a big motorhome with a tow vehicle. We ended up having to unhook our tow when leaving as we could not navigate the steep, narrow, tight turn. We would not stay here again due to the tight roads. - happy wanderer
Mar 2005 - $30.00
I traveled to several sites around Cherokee region (Yogi, KOA, etc...) and everything was extremely crowded due to trout fishing tourney. After traveling approximately 25 miles attempting to locate a campground, I figure I would take a stab at Craig's Campground. The manager was sitting on the front porch of the office and was extremely nice. He suggested a spot next to the creek with full hook-up and we set up camp. Before we left for Cherokee, asked him what time check-out was and he asked us what time we wanted to leave the next day and said not to worry nor hurry. Extremely nice people, facilities were not fancy, but they were very clean. - garyclarke324

This is our favorite RV park! We stayed in several years in a row back in early 2000's. We finally got a chance to return, and we were anxious to see if it was as good as we remembered - and it was! The park is very clean, and the employees are friendly, helpful and top notch. Our favorite sites are those that back up to the river. I don't know if I would love the park to the extent we do if we didn't have a river site. We love sleeping with our windows open and hearing the river at night. With hectic lives, just sitting by the river, fishing or sewing is a treat! Great place to unwind and disconnect from life. You sit in a valley surrounded by mountains with the national forest on one side and an Indian Reservation on the other side. You are less than an hour away from Gatlinburg and close to the Casino. Cherokee has grown a lot in the past sixteen or so years, so more restaurants and ice cream shops. Food Lion is also in Cherokee. The park is up the mountains about five miles from town. We are going back for an entire month next year! Can't wait!! - Retreatowner
Jan 2019 - $82.00
This is a nice KOA. They have updated the cabins and were doing a major update to the main building while we where there. However the roads have lot's of pot holes, most of the lights around the campground were burned out, definitely some parts need maintenance/updating. Also, the fire rings flood. We used our fire ring and one at a cabin family was in and both flooded every time it rained and had to be bailed out by hand. Lastly, the WiFi was reliable but slow. Decent Verizon service in the KOA, but not AT&T. And cell service in downtown Cherokee is almost non-existent. Weirdly, the Smokies Visitor center just up the road had excellent Verizon service. - joshjack

Supposedly expensive but we got a deal because of the season. Nice park on a rushing river loaded with trout. Our site was level with good WiFi and satellite friendly. Facilities were spotless. - Geodoc

Jul 2019 - $65.00
We've stayed at this park many times before but years ago in the cabins. This is the first time we brought my 35' TT along with us. We reserved site #27 50/30 amp FHU and it was level, shaded and plenty of room for all my stuff. We called the office on Wednesday before we got there since we were going to be arriving late and they gave us the site number and best way to pull into the site. They have plenty of sites for big rigs and smaller rigs. The off the river sites are better for the longer rigs where the river sites are suitable for pop-ups and tents. Some river sites have FHUs but most are just W/E sites. They have a couple water sites for a longer rig with FHUs but they're hard to come by. We brought our river tubes with us to ride down the river. The campground stretches the length of the river so you can put in the front section, ride the rapids down and get out at the bottom section. It's a short walk back to put your tube in again. If you don't have a tube, you can rent them for $10 a day from the office. The pool was nice but I really enjoyed the river water. We took advantage of the 7-day special and really enjoyed our time here. When coming into Cherokee, NC don't take HWY 19 like your GPS wants too since HWY 19 is a very curvy road and not suitable RVs (in my opinion). I would suggest a much better route into downtown Cherokee by taking HWY 74 and hitting HWY 441 just outside of Dillsboro, NC. HWY 74/441 is the truck route for HWY 19. - NC RV Travler
Aug 2017 - $50.00
What an excellent campground. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Activities were well planned. The location on the river is very nice. There is plenty to do. Our site was full hook up and everything functioned well. The park is well maintained. The pool was nice. You can rent tubes for the river. We had a great time floating down it. There's good fishing as well. It was very family oriented and the kids had great time. The camp office/store has pretty much everything you might need if you forgot something. Can't wait to go back next year. - skiles
Oct 2015 - $51.00
Beautiful setting, adequate space for our 36ft 5th. Long winding paved road to campsite. Friendly staff. No Cell service. Not the fault of the campsite. Good cable. Satellite not an option because of trees.
My main problem was lack of WiFi. Being full timers we depend on internet. When the park was empty, WiFi was horrible. When the park was full it was non existent. - roybrody

Sep 2019 - $50.00
We stayed here for the weekend in a 40 foot 5er. Easy in and out. We were escorted to site and helped to get into site. Everyone was very nice. We got fire wood and a pizza from the store and they brought it to the site for us. Had a great time and can't wait to go back. Only bad part was Wi-Fi is sketchy at best and no phone service with T-Mobile. Neighbor had Verizon and had no issues. - Robbie R.
Jun 2019 - $55.00
3rd time to stay here and enjoyed it each time. Friendly people and nice campground. Lots of flat walking areas. Nice stream on both sides of the campground. Large pond with cute ducks in middle. Pool and playground. Bathrooms clean! Mixed group staying...some overnight vacationers and some longer term seasonal folks....everyone nice and all sites seemed well kept. - ScoobyD

Jun 2019 - $37.00
This place is embraced by two fishing creeks. The sounds of flowing waters echoing in the woods at the foot of the Smokies make for an enchanted place. The campground has the distinct characteristics of a place of retreat. We had no ATT cell signals, yet we did not miss them. Our site was leveled. It was in a quiet part of the park; away from the fishing excitements of Fathers Day weekend. The Owner and his son were very courteous as well as the staff. You MUST follow the owner's directions to get to the campground, or the GPS will take you through some dangerous mountain roads. - Christozoid
Apr 2019 - $39.00
This campground is in a fork of two roads. One paved and one gravel which go to private residences. Creeks running by both. Sites were mostly level with gravel. Verizon worked great but ATT no svc. WiFi didn't work. Cable tv about 25 channels. They use Frontier provider. 5vers or large 34-40 ft rv would have a hard time getting into sites. They do have about 10 cabins. Campground is 9 miles from Cherokee past KOA and Yogi bear cg. So plan to stop at Food Lion in town. Gatlinburg is 40 miles about 1 hour away over mt. - Rolltideroll
Aug 2018 - $40.00
We stayed in site #6, which is a premium creekside W/E site. The site was pretty large, level, and had unparalleled views and access to Bunches Creek. The stream is normally perfect for wading and fishing (stocked by the Cherokee tribe once per week), although it did become a little high and fast-moving after a few days of non-stop torrential rain. However, according to the staff on-site, you're at a higher elevation and upstream enough where flash flooding isn't an issue (which proved to be true for us). Whether it was gently babbling or angrily rushing, the creek provided a beatiful backdrop to our site, and we really enjoyed seeing, hearing, and playing in it. In terms of shade and privacy, while there were plenty of trees throughout the CG, the creekside sites were pretty tightly packed in, with very little (if any) privacy in between. Understandable, given the prime real estate of the creek. They did have other, more private and wooded sites further away from the water, but if we returned, I'd be willing to forgo some privacy to be on the creek again. Bath house was a bit dated, but spotlessly clean. I was there a LOT during the week (mostly accompanying my toddler), and I feel like there was a staff member in there cleaning and/or restocking at least every other time we were there. Showers were nice and roomy, they had a dehumidifier going the whole time, and it always smelled fresh and clean. Nice pavilion next to the bath house with TV and Wifi. Laundry room was adequate, but smelled a bit like mildew. Camp store was very well-stocked but pricey, and the owners and all staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The only thing I felt was missing was a large dedicated dishwashing sink; that's one of those things that makes my life so much easier when we camp, and I was pretty surprised they didn't have one, since they had everything else so well-covered. If they added one of those, this place would be just about perfect! - Jenventola

I read previous negative reviews and I can only go with our stay. We were in site 8. We had direct TV due to the line of sight being open - with all the trees we felt lucky to get reception. We also had really good LTE for our phones-Verizon. Perhaps another anomaly but we were pleased. We spent 10 days here. It's rustic and very quiet. Staff were very polite. It's not the updated solid concrete driveway kind of park. We were satisfied and enjoyed the quiet. - Hopers
Jul 2019 - $55.00
If I could give a 0, I would. This is our 1st family RV road trip and we rented a spot for the 4th of July. When we arrived my husband went to check in and they gave him a different site # than what I reserved on Reserve America. I walked in to speak with Manager and the lady at the desk said she was the owner. I informed her that this was not the site we selected. Her response was, you just reserved today and the person on the site you selected has been there for a week. Do you think I would move them for your 1 night stay. I was shocked that the owner would speak to a customer like this especially since this is a valid question. I told her that I reserved a few days ago and she said her system and Reserve America system do not always communicate well. I informed her we had small children and the reason I selected that specific site was it was near bathroom and pool. She said if I didn't like it she would refund me and I could go elsewhere. I said I couldn't risk it since it was the 4th of July. The site was not clean, has tree debris all over the place. After staying at several KOA locations I would never suggest a place like this. - Catalina623
Jul 2019 - $38.00
Enjoying our stay. Did not use showers, or wifi, so I cant rate them. Hosts are friendly. Maintenance man asked if we needed anything but none was needed. Full hookups were easily accessible. Site needed minimum leveling. Quiet, clean sites. Most sites are shady. Had read some poor ratings before but most were from a couple years ago. I guess there must have been improvements made since these reviews. Cable TV is clear. Sites are not close together like most we have seen in other campsites around Cherokee. We will definitely be staying here again. Also the road coming in is narrow but i had no problem navigating a 35 ft travel trailer and a long bed pickup. - Ashley Grier
