Staff/owners EXCELLENT. They helped us with ideas of things to do in the area. Clearly cares about the guests. Showers and toilets spotless and spacious. Sites are very nice for a destination that can be very crowded. Nice, well constructed pedestal. However, water is tie wrapped to pedestal. Convenient location cannot be beat. Quiet campground with clean grounds. We camped at OBX Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Although we didn’t get to eat at them because it was off season, there are two highly rated restaurants just down the road. Salt Box Cafe and Colington Cafe. We’d recommend Steamers (about 15-20 min drive) for seafood takeout or dine in. If unique hiking is your thing, check out Jockey’s Ridge State Park at sunset. From the top of a 100 foot tall sand dune you can see for miles.

Overall Rating:

First Impression: Entrance at end of Marshy Ridge Road off Colington Road through a residential area is in very bad condition with serious potholes, humps and ridges. Sign on main road just after a curve - almost drove past. Safety: No concerns, quiet. Access: Off US-158, turn west on Colington Road at the traffic light (past the Wright Brothers memorial). If you roll past the DQ, you missed the turn. Colington is quite narrow but is asphalt in good condition. Not in Garmin database - use physical address. Office: One attendant. No store. Credit cards accepted. Online reservations not available. No discounts. Facilities: No pool, spa, fitness room or rec center. Small, clean laundry alcove. Restrooms/showers very clean, no mold, roomy, privacy curtains. No propane sales. No playground. No off-leash dog run. Campground: Not in a flood plain. No storm shelter available. Trees around perimeter. Interior roads are wide, gravel in good condition with gentle turns and no overhead obstacles. Big rig friendly. Long coaches will not have maneuvering problems. No tent area, yurts, or cabins. Sites are all very spacious, level, gravel, all back-in, nice grass everywhere. Pedestals at rear of site with electric 20/30/50; no meters. Adequate water pressure with good taste. Sewer pipe is 4" threaded, about 2-4" above ground level. No patios; usable picnic tables. No fire rings. Good satellite views. No cable TV. Free Wi-Fi but poor coverage. Verizon phone at 4 bars; 4G at 2 bars. No recycle bins. Noise: No railroad, aircraft, traffic, or interstate noise. Bug Report (early October): no insects noted. Runners: CG roads marginal for running (loose gravel). Yoga: use the grass for your mat. My Opinion: Score 5-Acceptable. Seriously overpriced. We camped at OBX Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The northern end of the Outer Banks is mostly residential. The middle and southern parts are residential, rental houses, and lots of tourist entrapements. Lots of stuff to do with the ocean being the biggest draw. Most parking is private so have fun putting the car someplace. Multiple mini-golf courses. Mostly local restaurants with only a few nationally recognizable establishments. Numerous fast food eateries. Most diesel around $3.00.

Lovely small campground near OBX attractions and dining options. The sites are all back-ins and are big. One could have set up a badminton court between our trailer and the camper next to us. There are some on the water and all are arranged around a rocky outcrop atop of which is an old cemetery. The bathrooms are new and immaculate. The staff is knowledgeable and very helpful. We camped at OBX Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Watch for the Wright Brothers memorial monument on the right as you drive towards the campground. We ate at "I got your crabs" restaurant nearby. Very reasonably priced and my wife said that the fried scallops were the best that she had ever eaten.

Here in OBX Campground in Kill Devil Hills, NC sites were nicely spaced, level with excellent connections and services. Office staff were very kind and helpful. The location was wonderful to tour the Outer Banks areas. An added bonus of visiting during the off-season was that the crowds were missing. Of course, many vendors were as well, but it was still a lovely place to visit! We recommend this campground. We camped at OBX Campground in a Motorhome.

The showers were the best and cleanest we've had at any campground, and the sites are large, level and well spaced. The manager was full of good suggestions for places to see/eat/do in the area. OBX would get a 10 but for two things. We were delighted to have a washer/dryer available, but it's the slowest dryer I've ever used, it took at least 3 cycles to get our clothes dry while others waited. And the price was way more than we expected to pay. At $50, we'd have stayed another day or two. We camped at OBX Campground in a Motorhome.

For the best evaluation of this CG, read the Nov 2019 review by StephenK - it's concise but thorough, like Doctor's Notes. I will just add a few things: although there is no road traffic or train noise, the CG is in the actual approach/departure path of First Flight Airport, less than a mile away, so there IS occasional aircraft noise. I liked it. The Navy/Marine Corps Team has bases 'nearby' and they love to make approaches to that runway on weekdays. I saw FA/18 fighter jets, MV-22 Osprey tilt-rotors and several helicopter types shoot approaches to FFA while we were there the last two times. The only bad news for me is that the CG is in a hard No Fly Zone for drones, which sucks because the area is very photogenic by air. Cheap, tourist plane rides are also flown out of there - so it's still possible to get a few shots from the air. Although I would agree with StephenK on his assessment of this CG as about 3.5 stars out of 5, I would also say that my wife and I visited campgrounds within 30 miles driving distance, north or south. This was, by far, the most comfortable CG for us. We stayed in site 14 twice in 2018 & 2019 and even our Dog commented on the space available. Huge grassy area to walk around and meet other folks walking their dogs - we met lots of nice people when we camped there and no obnoxious ones, so that's a big draw. Not sure I could even get my 37ft TT into some of the other campgrounds we previewed. Sewer had good connection at ground level - easy to dump. And the sand..., holy kamoley... Overall, we like the Zen of OBX Campground - a very peaceful week of rest every time we visit :-) We camped at OBX Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The Outer Banks area is a seasonal destination. If you go in-season, all of the restaurants and beach attractions will be open. It will be busy and the traffic will be oppressive. A trip north to Duck (15-20 mins) can take two hours or more on a weekend in-season. Off-season is quiet and peaceful, but also partially deserted. Many restaurants and most attractions will be closed, so bring a good book and plan to cook at the campground a lot.

Nice view of the sound and parklike feel. Immediate surrounding area is not the best, but the park is clean and feels safe. Close to Wright Brothers memorial and short drive to Duck. We drove by other RV parks that didn't look as nice (i.e., longer-term residents). This place is mostly short-term RVers. Laundry room could use an update and more machines. I'd probably stay here again. We camped at OBX Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Great bike path near Duck. Wright Brothers museum is worth a visit. Walmart is about 15 minutes to the north. Lot's of retail nearby as compared to areas further south on the outer banks. 5-10 minutes to the beach.

This campground is located conveniently within the Kitty Hawk area. The road leading to the campground could use some attention but keep your speed down and you’ll have no issues.

Once inside the the campground the roads are well maintained and easy to navigate.

In general, the campground’s facilities are really good. The owners of this campground obviously take pride in their facilities and keeping appearances up.

The bath house was clean and good working order. We found all the staff to be friendly and helpful.

This facility is a do over again for us. We camped at OBX Campground in a Motorhome.

DH, dog and I spent 4 days here towards the end of October. We had been scheduled to arrive about 10 days prior, but due to the hurricane, we rescheduled. (The office had given us a call and told us we would need to reschedule. We appreciated the proactive initiative they took by reaching out to us.) We had a back-in spot and really liked it. As previously stated by others, the spaces are quite large. Each spot has a picnic table and something that I'd never seen before, the hook-up sites had the space # on it and were lit which was great for adding a bit of light to the otherwise dark campground. We were there from a Monday - Friday and the park wasn't full - which we enjoyed. The showers/bathrooms were fairly well maintained. The shower space was pretty typical in that you had the shower with a chair just outside of it, but within a curtained off space so you could dress in private. Of note, however, the water pressure wasn't great. Use a modest amount of shampoo or you won't get it all rinsed out. Upon arrival, the guy that maintains the lawn was mowing all over the place, including part of our space. While happy to have the lawn mowed, it did wake up a bunch of gnats that came our way. The following day, we sat outside to read and enjoy the weather and he was back again mowing. We couldn't detect any grass of length that required it, but I guess he thought it did. The noise wasn't great and it lasted about an hour it seemed like, but we survived. All in all we were quite pleased with the campground and in fact have reserved for next May. If you've got kids or require lots of activities within the park, then this probably isn't the place for you. It doesn't have a lot of amenities. We camped at OBX Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Colington Pizza is nearby and has good food. I believe they also deliver to the campground though they seem busy so there might be a wait for delivery. And Common Grounds coffee, just past Colington Pizza is great for your morning coffee. Nice view from the deck outside.

This park sits right on the Albemarle Sound on the west side of the main thoroughfare - Highway 158. It's a few miles off the beaten path and down a residential gravel road. What a pleasant surprise upon our arrival! The immaculately mowed park features acres of green grass and all back in sites. The sites are HUGE - so even terrible backers (US!) have no problem maneuvering into these sites. Our site backed up to the sound and we had nice views of kayakers, paddle boarders and jet skiers enjoying themselves on the sound. The sites are gravel pads with picnic tables. If you don't need a pool or clubhouse and like plenty of elbow room - you will LOVE this park! We camped at OBX Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful campground close to the Outer Banks action, but off the beaten path. You'll pass rear side of Wright Bros Memorial to get there. Very large sites (triple the width of other CGs we've camped in). Beautiful green grassy areas. Entrance road is hardpacked gravel & bumpy; take it slow on entry & exit. Somewhat limited line of sight on exit due to curved road. Some shady sites. Grounds well kept; nice registration office. Staff very friendly & informative. Great referrals to restaurants & fresh fish market right down the road. Great central location for day trips to north & south ends of the OB. We stayed 4 nights & would definitely stay here again.
