You can't beat this place - long term or overnight. Friendly and helpful staff, full service facility, fully stocked RV store, quiet, the list goes on. 50A only. Have an adapter. We camped at Tom Johnson Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Drive the back roads and don't miss Devil's Whip. The town and it's surrounding areas are what you seek in a country setting. Winding roads, breathtaking views, pleasant helpful and kind people. If you must, Asheville is just up the road, but you'd lose nothing just hanging locally. Main St meets the mountains here and it doesn't miss a beat. Enjoy!

WiFi does not connect. No cable. Over the air television is 4 channels and it's public television. Paved roads, concrete sites. Easy to get into and out of. Quiet and relaxing. Not much for kids to do. We camped at Tom Johnson Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Stayed 5 nights in a 43' motorhome. CG is located outside of Marion, NC alongside the Catawba river in the Tom Johnson service facility- now Camping World. Easy access from I-40 (approx. 8 mi) to Resistoflex rd. Our site #30 was concrete, level, FHU with a picnic table and a shared fire ring. No cable some OTA channels. Big Rig friendly. Security gate with electronic access code. Garbage pickup in morning. On site TJ's Café at service center offering good food - Breakfast and lunch at reasonable prices. WiFi available in service center. Lots of space to walk your dog. Close to Blue ridge Pkwy, Grandfather Mtn., Linville Falls and other attractions. When in area would stay here again. We camped at Tom Johnson Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Very nice campground with level concrete back-in pads with nice concrete patios. We stayed a month so our rate reflects the monthly discount. Campground has no amenities except for the shower and laundry room. They have another campground across the road called the rally park, it's mostly used for big events and is basically a big grass field with hookups. We stayed here for a month and almost every afternoon it rained hard. Big storms form over the mountains and roll down towards Marion frequently. The park is well kept and is right next to a huge RV service center which is part of the nearby Camping World. Unlike most Camping World service centers, the people here know what they are doing. So if something breaks, they can fix it, as long as you have lots of money to pay for their rather high rates. The park has an automatic gate that closes in the evening, so if you arrive after normal business hours, make sure you call ahead for the code. Also, there is nobody in the office on Sunday. Calling ahead for reservations is a challenge since it's hard to get anyone in the campground department to answer the phone. Just keep trying and make sure you call during normal business hours, which are limited. We never saw a day when every site was full; most of the time it was about half full. Last year the whole campground flooded after days of heavy rains, but all the damage has been repaired and the grounds look great. The WiFi is not good and only works if you are close to the main building, but the Verizon signal is excellent, 4 bars, so we just tethered off our phone for our Internet. We camped at Tom Johnson Campground in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

The rate was for a 50 amp full hookup site in the rally campground. There are two campground areas, the main campground (60 sites) & service facility on the west side of Resistoflex Road, and the rally park (>400 sites) on the east side of Risistoflex road. The main campground is first class, all paved, etc, while the rally park is essentially a large open grass field of full hookup sites with roadways through the various sections. The main campground was full so we were placed in the rally area, and we essentially had the whole rally area to our selves. However, we were charged the same camp fees that we would have paid if we had been able to get into the main campground. Hurricane Irma visited the area about 5 days prior to our visit, and the rally camp area grass was soft, with evidence of ruts which were being filled by the staff the second day of our stay. AT&T and Verizon cell service decent, and good satellite access in both campground areas. Lots of shopping and restaurants are located nearby to the east and south in Marion. To access the campgrounds, make certain that you use Resistoflex road off Highway 70, about 300 feet west of the main Tom Johnson store/showroom, rather than trying to enter at the store/showroom. Also if you plan to enter the rally campground on a Sunday, be certain to call during the week to obtain the gate code to allow entry as there is no regular staff there on Sundays. We camped at Tom Johnson Campground in a Motorhome.

Stayed only one night passing through. Do not try to enter at the sales entrance the entrance to the campground is off Resistoflex Road which is a little narrow for our big rig. All back-ins, level, long, paved. Verizon good, WiFi ok. Separate large rally area. If you try to call ahead, good luck - their phone system is terrible. Sales center and Camping World store here. Easy in/out. Level sites with concrete pads and grass. Longer than most rigs. Full hookups. No cable. WiFi - OK. Picnic tables. No shade. Nice touch is the small breakfast and lunch in the old sales building. Order and pick up yourself; but it's only $5 for breakfast with grits, eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes, and gravy. Mt. Mitchell short drive away. Had no reservation. Check-in was a breeze at the service center. Stayed three nights. We camped at Tom Johnson Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

It's like staying in a parking lot, wide open, no fire pit. A few sites in front have a few trees, that's it. Did not enjoy it. And would never buy a camper there again, we got a lemon. We camped at Tom Johnson Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is a clean, quiet park that is close to many attractions in the mountains and not too far from Asheville. We stayed in the main area, not the grassy annex. The sites are concrete and level. Access into and through the park is very open. All of the sites are long enough for the biggest rigs. There is no fire ring but each site has a picnic table. There are only 4 channels available but most sites are open for good access to satellites. Wi-if is poor but Verizon service was strong. The best sites are those along the river. There is a walking trail along the river near the RV dealership and also the Marion Greenway just down the road. Rates are a bit high but that tends to be the case in this area. The staff is friendly and helpful with reservations. We camped at Tom Johnson Campground in a Motorhome.

Park is very open - easy access for even the largest rv's. Everything is either grassed or paved. Nice concrete patio with picnic table, convenient hook-ups, level sites. No wifi in park - but AT&T hotspot on iPhone worked well. No cable. This is why I downgraded to an 8 rating. Other than connectivity issues, it is a very well maintained, clean, well laid-out park. Would not be good for families with kids - no playground or planned activities. Nice, quiet place for a couple like us. Also has a good little cafe in the main building. You are basically on your own on weekends. I didn't see a single employee on duty. We camped at Tom Johnson Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Other than check in being unorganized, we like this campground. This review is for the paved sites and not the rally ones. The sites are level, wide, back in and paved. Picnic tables have been added since our last visit. There is plenty of room to walk your dogs around the perimeter of the sites. CG would easily be a 10 if it had wifi and cable. I like the price which is reasonable for this area so I can easily do without the amenities. Campground is on Resistoflex Rd., which is right after the Camping World if your on 70 WEST. You will be turning LEFT after the Camping World if headed WEST. We camped at Tom Johnson Campground in a Motorhome.

Nice park. Wide roads in the park and wide sites. All sites are back in and cement. Very good cafe on site that serves breakfast and lunch. Verizon service was good in the park. Park was quiet and had a river running in the back part of the park. Right next door to the Camping World store and the service department is right there in the park.
