This park is next to the Neuse River and offers a nice view. Our site was a pull through but had to disconnect and back in from the front side because of trees. The site was compressed fine sand that stuck to your foot wear and tracked in the coach. The CG is quite with very little road noise. - Michael47

Great county park on the banks of the Neuse. Half of the spots have fantastic river views. Some spots offer shade, others were open. About half of the sites had sewer. Also a dump station on site. The nature center and planetarium were closed due to recent Hurricane Matthew. Bath house was small -- only one men's room and one women's (both with their private shower). Great park for kids, as well as a kidde train ride ($). No hiking trails, but easy to walk along river bank. Close to Kinston activities (such as CSS Neuse), restaurants, and shopping. - ricks99

Great park. WiFi wiped out by hurricane Matthew but I am sure they are working on it. The campgrounds are rustic but usually quiet for an inner city park. There is a huge playground for children as well as a Nature Center and Planetarium. Wonderful people, wonderful park. We will be back if travels bring us this direction again. - LBell690

This is a hidden gem after the beaten path. There are about 20 sites and first come, first serve. Pull in and set up then go over to the police department to pay. It is a bit isolated but the police are in and out of this park regularly. - Michael47

Park is operated by the city. You are supposed to pay at the Police Department. When we arrived on Friday about 11am, I went to pay. Police department is locked, city hall has closed for the day. This is after numerous phone calls to try to see if they were going to have the park open, which took about 3 weeks to get an answer. I was told the rates were going to be $20 this year instead of the $10, but they assured me a spot and took a "reservation". We just took a spot when we got here as there wasn't anybody else. I finally found a police officer who helped me out.... - CBJ-Pitmastet

This is a beautiful, well maintained Campground, very peaceful, right on the Contentnea river. The park is operated by the local police department and is very secure. I wish we could have stayed longer. The walking trail around the grounds is nice. It was a little confusing when we first got here. We thought one of the walking trails was an interior road. Try that in a 46 foot 5th wheel on a stormy day. - LBell690

Stayed here 2 nights in a motorhome. Only military and DOD civilians are permitted to use this park. It is located on base and is easy to get to. The roads are paved and the sites are concrete. The water and electric are situated in a reasonable location, but my sewer was in a bad location. No cable TV, don't know about WiFi. Satellite TV is spotty due to many trees. Overall a nice campground for short or extended stay. - trav

We were very surprised how clean this campground was. We had no trouble backing into our site, that included full service. The brochure omitted full sewer hookup on site. The fire pit and barbeque grille were ready for use. I didn't need my leveling blocks for the site. The sites are well spaced with lots of trees. Our site was partially shaded. The paths were clean and easy to negotiate. So quiet during the day and night. No road traffic could be heard. The security was tops, with a ranger on patrol almost every hour. We went to the lake which is spring fed. It was beautiful with a lush grass lawn right down to the water's edge. I am very conscientious about protecting our forest and seeing litter left on the ground bothers me. In the four days we camped here, we didn't see any litter on the ground. Amazing! Great park to relax, take a walk or go swimming. Also we met lots of campers. - Arcymoore
Jun 2018 - $20.00
The wife and I just returned from a 4 night stay here ( Monday-Thursday). The state has recently converted 12 of the sites from tent sites to full hookup sites with 50/30/20amp service. The gravel parking pads on all 12 sites are long enough for any big rig, plus there is a gravel tent pad with fire ring and picnic table on each site. There is also 3 cabins that will sleep 6 with ac and heat but no cooking or inside water.
There are 30 camping sites plus the 3 cabins. All sites are shady. Streets are paved and there is a centrally located bathhouse. There are walking trails in the park, fishing in the nearby Neuse River and a 11 acre swim lake with a grass beach and swimming in season. Firewood and ice available on site and a nice visitors center.
The park entrance is locked at either 8 or 9 pm depending on the season. The campground will close down sometime this year (2018) to tear down and build a new bathhouse. The current bathhouse is open but was damaged in January when the plumbing froze. - Dolan Brown
Mar 2018 - $23.00
First time here. The recent upgrades at some of the sites are great. Our site was large and had plenty of privacy. Enjoyed walking the trails and just hanging out. Bathhouse is worn but appeared to be clean. - jrackley
Mar 2019 - $35.00
Quiet and easy to find. Would stay again as a stop en route to a final destination. Kids enjoyed the ducks, donkeys and Putt Putt course. - AaronC
Jun 2018 - $33.00
Nice little side of the road rv park. Grounds are well kept. Could use a bit more gravel on the sites and roads. Nose beware, the office is also a bait shop - and, it smells like a bait shop. After check in, everything was good. - GlobeTrotterRV3
Sep 2017 - $31.00
This is an older "Mom and Pop" campground that has a lot of full timers whose RV's need some TLC. The park itself is clean and the grass sites are plenty long to stay hooked up and very level. Our site had a patio, picnic table and fire pit. Wi-fi but no cable, play area, pool, old mini golf and best of all DONKEYS !!!!! They were very friendly and loved to be petted! This is a good park for an overnight stay. - travelswithpuppies
