A true destination campground. Got here 3 weeks after Hurricane Dorian and everything is up to par. Many of the local shops are shut down as the season is over, and it is early October. The site is right on Pamlico Sound with beautiful sunsets and fabulous views. All the amenities that one could ask for. An oddity here is that they charge extra for dogs and cable. If you get Ocean front, don't expect to see the Ocean. Dune are between the campground and Atlantic. We camped at Camp Hatteras RV Resort & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Hurricane Dorian did major damage to Ocracoke Island. Still isn't open for non-residents. Will be years before it will fully recover. The further north you go on the highway, the less damage. By the time you get to Waves, nothing remarkable.

Overall Rating:

We stayed in site 335, a sound front site with full hookups. Being the last site on the loop, it was a little tougher to get in to than others, but no real issue.

The sound front sites have unbelievable sunset views. The campground offers wi-fi but they will tell you that the bandwidth is limited. It is, but I cannot ding them for that, they were up front with the limitation.

The sites are all fairly level with concrete pads and patios. Our site took all of the sewer hose we had to reach the connection. Power is good and water pressure is solid. Overall I would recommend this park. We camped at Camp Hatteras RV Resort & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Park is showing it's age from the wear and tear of being a coastal park. Roads though paved, need work. Sites tight between RVs. Power good, water pressure fine. Don't know if we will return. We camped at Camp Hatteras RV Resort & Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We spent the first 2 weeks of July at Camp Hatteras. The campground is well laid out with paved roads and concrete pads. The location is as good as it gets in OBX. The park is relatively quiet despite how busy it gets even on a holiday. The staff was friendly and helpful and the activities offered are a lot of fun. The only complaints I have are quite minor. They don't collect trash at the sites like the campground a block away does. I don't like paying extra for a child and cable at these rates. I think it would be better received if they just factored that in to the price. It would also would have been nice to have a couple more showers at the beach to rinse the sand off. Don't expect huge, spacious sites as real estate is at a premium here but we never felt cramped. The pads are kind of narrow and the utilities are close so keep that in mind before disconnecting from your tow vehicle. Sewer connections are the rear of the pads so make sure you have plenty of hose. None of these things would keep me from returning and we have already made a reservation for next year. We camped at Camp Hatteras RV Resort & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Its a very high price park, but the location is the reason. Although their website says they have some "ocean front site" they cannot see the ocean. Those sites simply back up to the sand dunes. We got a premium sites along the side and were satisfied with it. There was a lot of grass space behind us. You can drive your vehicle to the beach access or walk. Their isnt a long boardwalk...just a short walk over the dunes. Beach is clean and pretty. The wifi did not hardly exit. No problem with satellite...no trees. The sites are tighter than we typically like, but again you have to consider the location. The pool was huge and very nice. Lots of room to seat around it also. If in the area, we would stay again (maybe on the Sound side as there is a water view). We camped at Camp Hatteras RV Resort & Campground in a Motorhome.

Well I must say I was very disappointed with our stay. The grounds were clean. Our pad was to small for our trailer. Several of the staff on site were the rudest and the most disrespectful I think I've ever met. On the website they stress first come first serve for parking. Well we were asked to move our truck and trailer with our Jeep 3 times to accommodate other people. The manner they asked us was very disrespectful. One of the staff told my husband the other truck and trailer with the boat was more important and cost more then our truck. ( Granted we have a new F350 Dually )

To sum it up: After pre paying for our site , extra guest, and an additional truck and trailer, we were rudely asked to move it multiple times throughout our stay. It became more of an inconvenience. We will not be back. We camped at Camp Hatteras RV Resort & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is an excellent park. Great friendly staff and it is maintained great. The great feature of the park is it has a 1000 ft. of Atlantic Ocean and a 1000 ft. of Pamlico Sound. I do believe that the park is over priced. While we were there in May it was only about a fourth full. We would like to go there more often but its to pricey for us. Rate is for CtoC. They only allow CtoC to stay for 7 nights at the CtoC rate. CtoC are only allowed in the center of the park nothing close to the beach or sound. In my opinion the standard rates are just to high for what you get. They have both and indoor and outdoor pool with game room and rec center. Despite lots of WiFi 'repeaters', WiFi only worked in the rec room. Restrooms were clean but rustic. Cable is an extra $3. Sewer connections are in the rear. Not much in the immediate area except the beach of course. Would stay again only on CtoC rate. We camped at Camp Hatteras RV Resort & Campground in a Motorhome.

Huge campground with paved sites and picnic table. There is still a nice piece of grass next to each site as well as behind some sites. FHU sites; water quality is good; electric good. Park has access to the beach and a pavilion with dock to the beach as well. It is the Cape Hatteras National Seashore but dogs are allowed on the beach. The park offers Wifi and cable; big tennis court, playground, mini golf, shuffleboard, bike rentals, swimming pools, clubhouse. They have a big dog park. There is a sidewalk for walking and bike riding. It's a very nice park and the people here are very friendly. Manager has been here 30 years. Tips for other Campers:

Visited the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse; Wright Brothers National Memorial; Fort Pierce; Pea Island Wildlife Refuge. Lots more to visit. I would advise visiting off season as there is only one two-lane road covering the 70 miles of the Outer Banks. Also be aware of the Roanoke Bridge as it has a tendency towards harmonic motion, so go slow.

We stayed here in our 42 ft. fifth wheel, front row for the ocean side. Sites are pretty spacious, plenty of room to be able to back in easy. Had enough room to hook up our truck the night before we left with no problem. Easy to turn into the campground and navigate the roads in the campground. Concrete pad was level. Everyone was very friendly. Enjoyed our stay. We camped at Camp Hatteras RV Resort & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Very nice park. They apparently had some water damage last week and we arrived after dark. Missed the entrance because there were no lights. Apparently they were damaged during the previous weeks flood. Park was very clean. Lots of sites but it must have been a slow eek because we didn’t have anybody next to us, they have very few drive through spaces, but my husband was able to maneuver easily and back in. My ONLY complaint was the Internet. Both my husband and I are self employed and need to work while we travel. Our 4G Verizon card didn’t seem to work so we relied on the park’s internet access. Very slow and we got dropped quite a bit. I know that this shouldn’t be such a big deal but in our line of work (Realtors) we have to be available all the time. We would most definitely come back. Stayed here for the first time because we are new to the RV life, love the Outer Banks, and wanted to stay ocean front. Putting all of those together is tough on Hatteras Island because there are only two oceanfront campgrounds, so they are going to a little pricey. Sites were normal popular area sites, but we had a end loop site so a little extra room. We were there out of peak season so wasn't crowded. We stayed 3 rows back from the ocean, the closer you get to water either ocean or sound, the more it cost. Staff was friendly, amenities were great, used the laundry and the pools and hot tub. Definitely cross over to the sound side around sunset, the view out over the Pamilco Sound will change your life. We camped at Camp Hatteras RV Resort & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

One of our all-time favorite RV parks - it has sections that sit on both sides of Highway 12 that runs up and down the lower Outer Bands. The east side is just a few steps from the beach and Atlantic Ocean while the west side sits on the Pamlico Sound. All sites are back in with concrete pads and patios and roomy enough. Their pool and clubhouse is very nice and we LOVED their huge dog park with LOTS of green grass! While there we were evacuated a week early due to Hurricane Florence and the staff was exceptionally professional and accommodating through the entire ordeal. Can't wait to return! After riding by this park for years, we finally decided to stay here. We stayed in a sound front site and the sunsets were beautiful! We did not account for the height of the water grass. You could not see water from the ground without being on top of something from our site. Ended up watching the sunset over the water from the roof of the RV. Best seat in the house! Some sites don't have this issue, so your mileage may vary. All of the sites we saw were paved. This campground is a little older and the bathroom & community facilities show it. However, the staff does a great job of keeping everything clean. All of the staff that we interacted with were very friendly! Be sure to ask for your discount at the beginning of your registration process. They have signs telling you this, and it is in the email confirmation, but from the response I received, it seems like this isn't followed very often. One thing that caught me off guard was that you aren't allowed any ground fires at your site. There are no fire rings. If you bring a portable fire pit, it is allowed, otherwise you can't have one. The sound side entry road holds water when it rains and it was relatively deep when we arrived and stuck around for a day or two. With the exception of one or two sites, all that we saw were dry. TV hookup is extra and we decided that it wasn't worth it as we don't watch much TV when camping. WiFi signal was good, but speed wasn't very fast. Our US Cellular and Verizon signals were both good. This is a nice beach campground and we will definitely return! We camped at Camp Hatteras RV Resort & Campground in a Motorhome.

This is our fourth time at Camp Hatteras RV Resort but the previous three had been years ago when it had another name.  The amenities have been backed down some since then....no more free sailboat use but still an very well run park in a fantastic location stretching from ocean to sound.  There are tennis & basketball courts along with shuffle boards, a playscape and a mini-golf course.  Equipment is gratis to use.  The club house has a game room for teens and a really spacious lounge for adults with TV, comfy chairs, game tables and a kitchenette.  Granted it is on the ocean but I spent much time in the indoor pool that had a hot tub connected to it.  There is also a well cared for outside swimming pool.  The very helpful staff and small camp store add a lot.  Sites near the ocean command a premium price so we stayed near the clubhouse for good wifi and a $10/night camp fee because of our Coast to Coast affiliation.  The pad for our 26' trailer was  concrete and level in the open. Ocean side looks at a sand dune to cross to get to the Atlantic. Sound side has beautiful sunsets. We will be back. We camped at Camp Hatteras RV Resort & Campground in a Travel Trailer.
