Overall Rating:

We chose this campground because of a model railroad convention at the conference center across the street. When we drove in we were greeted by very friendly camp hosts who were eager to help us. We had no prearranged camp site so they offered us three sites. One would have backed up to the busy road and no shade, another would have been up on the hillsides but no cable. All sites here, even on the hillsides are FHU. We finally chose a pull through site on the area near the road. One small tree did help break up the sun and will grow soon to be a proper shade tree. Road noise during the day is significant, but does quiet down at night. Wifi is very strong. Showers are older style but on further inspection have some excellent ammenties, for one, well placed towel hooks, curtains that actually provide privacy, and very nice holders for soap and shampoo. Although the showers were very well done and very clean, what we did not know when we reserved is that the campground shares the road in with a school next door. Twice a day, morning and around 3:00 you had to put up with cars lining up to pick up children from the school. It was awkward and if you were sitting in the campground during the day it was noisy as well. If I were to stay here again I would choose a site up on the hillsides which were daunting to get to but very shady and much quieter. We camped at Lake Junaluska Campground in a Travel Trailer.

My husband and I were driving through and needed somewhere to park for one night. We were pleased with our campsite as it was a level pull-through so effort for our overnight stay was minimal. Everyone we encountered was SO friendly and my husband loved swimming in the lake. Overall, this was a great choice for our overnight needs. We camped at Lake Junaluska Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This park should not be considered a campground open to the public. It is run by a ministry and saves the open level spots for their members. We were told that none of those spots were available because they were expecting a conference group to arrive. We were there for 3 nites and there were spaces available they could have given us. Our campsite was a dirt lot on a hill side. The truck and the trailer were not level for hook up or unhooking. It seemed dangerous. We left 2 days early. I would not recommend this place. Very welcoming and helpful staff. Sites are well-spaced and maintained. All (open) sites are roof-mounted satellite-friendly. Some road noise from US19. Lake and facilities across the road are awesome! We camped at Lake Junaluska Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Not a "resort". More like a parking area across from a conference center that is on Lake Junaluska. On a busy street with LOTS of traffic noise, though it quieted down between midnight and 6 am. Easy to get to - EXCEPT the address they give us ACROSS THE STREET from the RV park. So we were in the wrong lane and couldn't cut across the traffic to make the turn. We had to go down the street and turn around. Staff was very helpful. Sites were reasonably spaced. Ok for an overnight, but not a destination. Do not expect to stay at a lake resort near Asheville, as we did, for you will be disappointed. We camped at Lake Junaluska Campground in a Motorhome.

This park is listed in the Good Sam info but it does not give a Good Sam or any other discount. It's small and close to the main road. The hosts were very nice and we will stay there on our way back since we had to prepay. Otherwise we might not. Nothing really wrong but for the price I'd go elsewhere and get a discount. Pretty area and the Retreat Center across the street is beautiful and a great place to walk. We camped at Lake Junaluska Campground in a Motorhome.

The park was good, but we weren't there much. Nice hosts, quiet neighbors, good walking paths nearby. Most of our time was spent driving and hiking in the mountains. Perfect location for seeing beautiful things! We will try to stay here again the next time we are in the area! We camped at Lake Junaluska Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a nice park for the fall leaf peaking on the Blue Ridge and surrounding area. Great views of the surrounding mountains and the colors in them. The park is on a busy highway with lots of noise during the day, but quieted down at night. We were in a pull through site that sloped down to the front. All of the hook ups were in very good condition. There is a paved walking trail around the lake across the street. There are also sites on the upper levels of the park with paved access to all sites. Some of the turns in the park are very tight for a large unit. We camped at Lake Junaluska Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

The park sits directly on a noisy, busy highway. If you want quiet, shade and a park like setting with a view, this is not the place. In fact there are few trees in the camping area. The sites are very close together. Minor leveling was required. We stayed in early October. The camp host was very friendly and accommodating. While most sites are gravel, grass has grown through and almost completely covered the surface. It appears the park is spending on very basic maintenance, not ongoing improvements and updating. The Lake across the highway is beautiful. The location is convenient to many attractions in the NC western mountains. The area seems to be safe. A burned out old motel sits next to the campground which per the host is scheduled to be removed in the near future. You may wish to call ahead to ask about construction noise and dust during the next few months. In summary this campground is adequate if you only want a place to sleep and are not noise sensitive. We camped at Lake Junaluska Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We really enjoyed our 1 week stay at this campground. Rate shown reflects weekly rate. We had a level, gravel, FHU, back in site next to Hwy. 19. There are also pull-thru sites available. Road noise was not a problem for us. This location is very convenient to Waynesville & Maggie Valley. Cable TV & Wi-Fi both worked well. The laundry contained 2 washers & 2 dryers that worked well. We really enjoyed the 2.6 mile paved walking trail around Lake Junaluska. The park was very clean & well maintained. The camp hosts were very friendly & helpful. We would definitely stay here again. We love the area, and were pleased to find this campground as part of the Lake Junaluska Conference Center. Older reviews give good description of campground. We did not find traffic noise a problem. It is steady through the day, but very little traffic at night (and we were in the front, right by the street). Wi-Fi worked well on our site. We cannot speak about the sites up the hill, except that they are nice and woodsy (also hilly). The laundry machines worked well. The bathroom was very rustic and could have been cleaner, but all else was nicely maintained. We will definitely use this campground again. We camped at Lake Junaluska Campground in a Motorhome.

Pros: All sites (except tent sites) have full electric, water and sewer hookup. A combination of wooded and open field sites are available. Some roads are paved, some are gravel. Convenient to the Lake Junaluska United Methodist facilities,to Waynesville, Maggie Valley, I-40, and the Great Smoky Mountain Expressway. Not too far to Great Smoky Mountain National Park Cataloochee area or Cherokee. Excellent free WiFi connection and cell phone service. Security patrols several times per day. Cons: US 19 highway traffic noise present 24/7, except in back of campground. WiFi internet not available in back of campground. Hookups are sometimes oddly configured to the campsite, causing long reaches. Much of the campground has been pieced together over the years, and the arrangement of some campsites for backing in is simply crazy, especially in the wooded areas. Most sites are level, but some may have a few issues. The 100 numbered sites are in the open right by the highway within 60 feet... not much of a camping feeling there if you are on vacation. One very modern bath house, but the other bathouses are outdated, albeit very, very clean and well maintained. A peculiar $5 deposit is collected for guests who do not register, but it was returned at the end of our stay. Could not figure that one out, and the explanation was vague. This campground could have earned a 7 or 8 on the rating scale, but I am giving it a 6 because of the highway noise, and a bit of rust in the water here and there. We would camp here again if attending events at Lake Junaluska, but not as a vacation spot when in the general area. We camped at Lake Junaluska Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We camp here every year. It is part of Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center which is part of the United Methodist Church. The campground is across the road from the main retreat area. The lower sites do get highway noise. The campground is always clean and workers are pleasant. Very nice playground on site. A few sites have wooden decks. There are also camping cabins. Swimming is available across the street at the retreat center as is the walking trail around beautiful Lake Junaluska, museums, gardens, restaurants and a Cokesbury book store. Just a couple of miles from Maggie Valley, Waynesville, Cherokee and the Catoloochee area. The campground is tobacco and alcohol free. All sites have picnic table and fire rings. Some roads are gravel, some are paved. Several pull through sites. A great option for touring this part of NC. Do not have to be affiliated with the United Methodist Church to stay there. We camped at Lake Junaluska Campground in a Travel Trailer.
